I confess, Chair, for March of Robots, was one of the most challenging pieces I’ve done creatively. I wasn’t quite sure how to approach a chair as a robot, and even though I collected a bunch of different resources to get some ideas, I ultimately decided to make a robot based off of one of those dryer chairs you’d find in hair salons. I’m not sure if I executed the robot part of the prompt properly, but only time will tell. In hindsight, I could have drawn a robot in a chair, or even a motorized wheelchair, but maybe next time I could try it out. When one thinks of bombs, one thinks of warheads and missiles. However, I didn’t want to do a repeat of Weapon for ‘bomb’ for March of Robots, so after some research, I came across some bath bomb making machines. I came up with the pose when I looked up pictures of someone holding up a smoke bomb, and that’s what made the picture. When I saw the prompt ‘coffee’ for March of Robots, I knew I wanted to work with coffee makers. I looked up a bunch of them and even sketched out quite a few, but I ultimately settled upon one of those bigger models with the various buttons, and added them onto the robot. I also pulled up some pictures of coffee to find some different palettes. When I was brainstorming Mercury, I came across several different instances of what mercury meant on Google. There is the famous planet of course, but then there are thermometers as well as the element mercury itself. Ultimately, I decided to make a space-like robot that also measures the temperature around them. It was a very easy process, and I enjoyed making a more conventional robot this time around. Hello and welcome to our resumed programming! For March of Robots, we’ve got a robot designed around Gear. I originally started this on the same day I made Block, but I only finally finished it today. I have no idea still why it took me so long to finish it, but I think this robot turned out very well once I threw in a steampunk dress. Everything else simply came together, and I think this one might be one of my best original robots. I tried to also incorporate flame in this as well, but I’m not a hundred percent certain how well the fireballs came out. Still, I think the inkwork might be one of the best parts of the picture. Today’s March of Robots has had a slight mix-up. Now today’s prompt called for Gear, but for some reason, I thought today would be Block. It was actually tomorrow, but I was already so far into the pencil stage I decided to just reverse the days, so tomorrow will be Gear instead. Going forward with my simplicity idea, I decided to make a robot that had a blocky shape, like one of those old toy robots you’d see in sixties cartoons. There is even a small propeller on the chest as well, to keep him cool on those warm and hot days outside. The joints are round so that the robot’s appendages can move, and he can still be playable. Hello and welcome once again to March of Robots! This time, we’ve got one of the most detailed pieces I’ve done for this challenge thus far – and the first one that features a robot I didn’t come up with myself. This is Maleficent as a dragon, and here, she is a parade float at Walt Disney World. When I first saw that @guto.yu.maeda ‘s prompt list for March of Robots mentioned Dragon, I knew this animatronic would be perfect for that day. I still think Maleficent’s dragon is one of the most iconic creations in animation, and she looks stunning in steampunk. I’ve had a slight mishap where I spilled some tea while making the original pencils, but I managed to erase it in Paint Shop Pro X after I scanned it. This is my most detailed robot picture to date, and I look forward to the challenges that come my way – especially for Bauhaus, the last day of the set of prompts.
