Folktale Week 2023 - Lost

This piece, like all the others, is a late submission, but for Lost, I decided to depict a part from the Polish fairy tale The Bear in the Forest Hut. Essentially, this maiden had just been abandoned to a dark and expansive forest thanks to her envious and cruel stepmother and her lazy and entitled stepsister, who twisted her father's arm into making her wander the world alone with just some bread. Little would she know that her fortune would turn around soon in this tale that is part Mother Hölle, part Beauty and the Beast.

Hello all, and welcome back!

I know that I haven't been as active as I used to be, but I will try to post more of my artwork and be more productive throughout the year.

Although I started the sketch in December, I finished this piece on January 6th, 2024, and it was only recently that I finally scanned the picture. This is also the first time in a long time that I used watercolor pencils from Crayola and watercolor marker brushes. Given how long it's been since I used watercolor pencils and marker brushes, I think it turned out well.

I confess, I wasn’t sure if this was a good idea to do or not, but after some consideration, I decided to compile my submissions for the #fourrealmschallenge into one mega post. Hello all, and welcome to the final submission for the Four Realms Challenge! Due to life and Christmas preparations, I ran later than usual with my most recent submission for #fourrealmschallenge . However, I am proud of what I came up with for the Realm of Snow. I wanted to evoke a sense of ice and snow with this picture. The lacing and embroidery on the outfit is supposed to reflect the look of frost and snowflakes. I love a good, gentle snowfall, and I also love elegant fashion as well, which is why I took my recent outfit inspiration from wedding dresses. As of this post, I would like to call this denizen of this realm Queen Schneewisschen, or Schnee for short. Hello all, and welcome to another round of the Four Realms Challenge! Last week on the #fourrealmschallenge , I designed a character for the Realm of Candy. Today’s realm is the Realm of Flowers. I wanted to go with something vibrant and influenced off of Christmas flowers this time. I based some parts of the outfit on the primrose, the Christmas Rose, juniper berries, holly, edelweiss, the bleeding heart on the vine, and of course, the most famous of Christmas flowers, the poinsettia. I think as a name, Edelweiss might suit this character best. Hello all, and welcome again to another post! I decided I wanted to do the #fourrealmschallenge this Holiday season, and essentially, you create a character based off of the moodboards provided by the hosts of this challenge. Today’s realm is the Realm of Candy. I decided to utilize pastel colors in this picture, as well as lollipop, cotton candy, and candy cane imagery in the outfit and overall design. It was difficult to choose a pose, but I’m glad that I was able to sort this out quickly. I think Candida might be a good name for this Candy Realm resident. She seems quite soft and thoughtful. Hello and welcome to another round of March of Robots! This post focuses on Cheesecake. Originally, this robot had a face, but I decided at the last minute to swap out the eyes, nose, and mouth for a screen instead. The robot also has parts of a cake cutter machine, which cuts up cheesecakes into smaller slices before they go out to Costco and all of those other food supermarkets for consumption. My family used to have Cheesecake Factory stuff when I was growing up, and they used to make excellent cheesecakes in all kinds of flavors when I was little. Mindless This piece originally started out as a piece for 2019's Inktober for the prompt Mindless. However, I never finished it until today. Ex-Princess Rene Resimille This submission you see before you was specially made for the #xppen2021 and #artcon2021 redraw contest. I picked the original piece of Rene in her funeral garb from my old DeviantArt gallery, ArtemisBlue, because I felt it was the best representation of how far I've come as an artist over the years. She was originally going to feature in an attempt at a fantasy novel with magic and ghosts and masks called The Dwellers of Myst when I first came up with her, but the novel itself never made it past the development stages.  I also wanted to be able to show more character personality through my artwork, so in the redraw, she is holding her niece, Angeline. I knew very little about proportions and didn't work with face guidelines when I first started out on DeviantArt, but I managed to improve my faces thanks to forums and respectful feedback from other artists. I admit, I sometimes felt discouraged when I first started making serious artwork in an attempt to draw my characters the way I saw them in my head, but I'm grateful for the journey I've had.
