Understanding the Distinctions: Vices, Habits, and Addictions
As we engage on our journey through life, we encounter various patterns of behavior that shape our character and influence our decisions. Some of these patterns are positive, nurturing our growth and well-being, while others can lead us down a path of self-destruction. It’s important to understand the differences between vices, habits, and addictions in order to navigate these aspects of human…

Does the NYPD Test for Weed?
Hey Tumblr fam! 💚 Let's talk about a hot topic that's been making the rounds lately: Does the NYPD really test for weed? 🌿🔬💨
It's no secret that attitudes towards marijuana have been evolving across the country. While several states have decriminalized or even legalized recreational use, others still classify it as a controlled substance. But what about the NYPD, the long arm of the law in the Big Apple? 🍎🚓
Well, here's the deal: The NYPD's stance on weed has been undergoing some changes too. As of my last update in September 2021, the department announced a significant shift in its approach. They decided to no longer conduct pre-employment drug testing for THC, the active component in cannabis. 🙌
But wait, there's a catch! ⚠️ While they may not test prospective officers for marijuana use, the NYPD clarified that officers are still expected to abide by state and federal laws. So, if they get caught using or possessing weed outside of certain exceptions, there may still be consequences. The NYPD has made it clear that on-duty impairment is strictly prohibited, as it should be! 🚫🌿👮‍♀️
You might be wondering, "What about random drug testing for officers already on the force?" Well, there isn't a clear answer to that. The NYPD hasn't publicly disclosed detailed information about their current stance on random drug testing for weed. So, it remains a bit of a gray area. 🌫️😕
It's essential to recognize that marijuana policy is a complex and evolving matter, influenced by shifting public opinion and legislative changes. The decision to test or not to test can vary across law enforcement agencies, as well as from state to state. 📜💭
As we continue to advocate for sensible drug policies and the reevaluation of marijuana-related offenses, it's crucial to stay informed and engaged. Let's keep the conversation going, pushing for fair and equitable treatment for all. Together, we can make a difference! ✊💚
Remember, this information is based on the knowledge available up until September 2021. Laws and policies can change, so it's always a good idea to check for updates if you want the most current info. Stay educated, my friends! 📚🌿💡

Teach Me THC
In Toronto, it’s illegal to sell or use marijuana (without a medical licence). That’s the law, at least for now. We’re just waiting on Trudeau to make his next move. But somehow, there are dispensaries all over the city.
I’ve been in one before, because you know, curiosity and all that. It was right along Queen West and in no way hidden from anyone driving or walking by. A security guy at the front asked me for photo ID, nothing more. There was no registration, no medical licence verification, no forms to fill out, no questions asked.
I went through another door and there was a glass counter with about two dozen different types. Names like God’s Bud, Green Crack, Girl Scout Cookies. All different mixes of Sativas and Indicas, each with its own short (and rather descriptive) write-up of its features and effects. They were priced from about $10 to $18 a gram. I realized that most people paid in cash. It wasn’t long before there was a line up behind me. The people just kept on coming.
Honestly, I was surprised. For the mere reason that…I mean, what they’re doing is totally illegal.
Here’s how I imagine the cycle goes: A dispensary opens up, but doesn’t follow the correct ‘procedure’. Word gets around. Dispensaries are raided and charges are laid. Most charges don’t stick because at the end of the day most of these people are harmless and just want to get high and eat a burger (and fries). Officials often throw these cases out since it’s going to be ‘legal anyway’ and there’s more serious business that needs attention and the prosecution of the individuals behind these dispensaries is considered a ‘waste of resources’.
Where there is a demand, there will be supply and in Toronto, the potheads are thriving.
Now let’s talk socially. Is marijuana use socially acceptable? Honestly, would I want my teenage kids smoking it? No. But the truth is there is no other drug like it.
It’s 100% natural. Grown from the earth people. None of that chemical s*** like meth or cocaine. And although there are temporary negative side effects (memory loss, reduced motor function, paranoia, bum behavior and the like) there are actually no confirmed harmful long term effects in adults. At least not to the effect of alcohol or tobacco, which are both legal by the way.
A lot of people who smoke marijuana just see it as a social thing. A means to bond with others & share some laughs, listen to music, talk about life. Some use it to relieve pain or treat insomnia, others to destress and bring out their creativity.
Mind you, I did grow up African, to very African parents, so trust me, I was raised with the idea that smoking marijuana will actually make you go crazy. The fear they instilled in me alone kept me away from it.
But over the years, that stigmatized view is changing, maybe for the better, maybe for the worse. Who knows. At the end of the day, it’s a personal lifestyle choice.
Obama smoked marijuana in his younger years and became the 44th President of the United States. And everyone loves Obama, he’s the nicest guy ever.
You really are your own person and smoking weed, if you choose to, should not define who you are.
Let’s see what 2018 has in store.
Peace and Love,
- D.

What’s this? A lady scientist using facts and data to politely say ‘Hey DEA: your weed is schwag, your tests are bogus, your scientists are the real dopes and your science is garbage’ Did I understand that right? Let the weed scientists provide actual findings of actual research on this life altering medicine called Marijuana. My dream is the end of the constant BRAINWASHING of humans with messages demonizing marijuana. I believe the pendulum has already swung in that direction and frankly, there’s no stopping it. Marijuana legalization has more support across party lines, races, and genders than ever before. In October 2021, cannabis advocates kicked off the signature-gathering season to get medical and adult-use cannabis proposals on the 2022 ballot. Here is this month’s marijuana legalization update for October.

California’s Goal to Certification of “Almost Organic” Cannabis
California is looking to set up its own organic certification for cannabis products.
California is looking to set up its own organic certification for cannabis products. A United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) accredited certifying agent provides the standard organic certification. The agent ensures that products labeled organic have been produced through approved methods, including protection of natural resources and use of only approved substances.

I can literally count the times I've agreed with Supreme Court Judge Clarence Thomas on one hand. As a woman of color I have been often offended by his rulings. Felt betrayed. I NEVER thought I would agree with him. Credit where credit is due. He states now laws against marijuana are no longer applicable. I am pretty sure he's still against Marijuana. But from a legal standpoint how can he ignore "The People" when his job is to adjudicate FOR US ( for once!!) and not against us!! I will NEVER be a fan of Judge Thomas but if a Conservative such as himself can see the futility of marijuana laws perhaps others can gind a way to crowbar their closed hearts too! A teeny step forward. Thank you we'll take it. I think employment will increase as well. Some of the hardest working people I know are pot smokers. Now hire us!! #judgeclarencethomas #supremecourt #marijuana #marijuanalaws #marijuanareform #supremecourtjudgeclarencethomas #legalizepot #stoppersecution #legal #ajudicate #420 #law #laws #never #forus #workhard #employment https://www.instagram.com/p/CQtuYw9FKB_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Some people choose to see the ugliness in this world, the disarray. I choose to see the beauty🗽 In an Empire State of mind, celebrating progress over prisons as New York moves to legalize marijuana and expunge past related convictions which have overwhelmingly impacted communities of color. In the past, NYC has had a strict pre-employment marijuana testing ban in place. The New York City officials decided to finalize new rules for a local prohibition of pre-employment drug testing for marijuana. The officials added more exemptions. These exemptions will provide more protections for employees against random or pre-employment cannabis drug screening.
The ban got approved by the City Council last year and got enacted without Mayo Bill de Blasio’s signature. The ban states that companies in the city should not carry out pre-employment tests for THC metabolites. That is unless the position is safety-sensitive. The policy became active in May 2020.
When it was first written and passed, the bill had language spelling out exceptions from testing for persons applying to specific jobs. These jobs included police officers, childcare, and positions tied to a federal or state contract grant.  The bill also included a measure that allowed the New York City Commission on Human Rights to expand the expected jobs list. The body recommended its own set of regulations back in April. It has been in the process of finalizing those rules in the months that followed.
