Best Underrated Anime Group F Round 3: #F8 vs #F2
#F8: Young boy gets sold to a demon to be his grandson
#F2: 90s maid girls with guns
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#F8: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun (Marimashita! Iruma-kun)
youtube
Summary:
Fourteen-year-old Iruma Suzuki has been unfortunate all his life, having to work to earn money for his irresponsible parents despite being underage. One day, he finds out that his parents sold him to the demon Sullivan. However, Iruma's worries about what will become of him are soon relieved, for Sullivan merely wants a grandchild, pampering him and making him attend the demon school Babyls.
At first, Iruma tries to keep a low profile in fear of his peers discovering that he is human. Unfortunately, this ends up being more difficult than he expected. It turns out that Sullivan himself is the chairman of the school, and everyone expects him to become the next Demon King!
Iruma immediately finds himself in an outrageous situation when he has to chant a forbidden spell in front of the entire school. With this, Iruma instantly earns a reputation he does not want. Even so, he is bound to be roped into more bizarre circumstances.
Propaganda 1:
The main character, Iruma, is very kind and wholesome, and you really just want to see him succeed throughout the series, especially after knowing everything he’s been through. He was neglected and used by his parents, but now he gets to live out a nice life despite being surrounded by demons, as his new grandfather spoils him. The demon that adopted him, Sullivan, is an extremely powerful figure in the demon realm, but through most of the series, he looks like an egg. The side characters are also well-designed with interesting personalities. The main two, Asmodeus and Clara, become almost inseparable from Iruma after they become friends, and the three of them are very cute together. There is also a canon nonbinary cat person, who is technically Sullivan’s servant, but he is treated as part of the family, and he’s a disaster bisexual.
Propaganda 2:
It’s really good in terms of art, plot, and characters. There’s nonbinary representation in the form of Opera, and there’s friendship galore with very poly undertones. It’s so sweet and good, and it’s just rahhhhh. Everyone is silly but also realistic and well-developed. There are reasonable arcs, and there’s a well mix of plot-driven growth and character-driven plots. I love every person who appears onscreen, even for like two seconds. The world building is lovely and so bright and colorful.
Propaganda 3:
You should vote for it because it is genuinely one of the best animes I’ve ever seen. It has good character development, mysteries, focuses on the cast well, and it is not a harem anime. The plot is also really good and is suitable for all age groups.
Fun fact: the main character crossdresses three times in the first three seasons
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse (mild)
Tumblr media
#F2: Akiba Maid War (Akiba Meido Sensou)
youtube
Summary:
The innocent Nagomi Wahira has always admired the cute girls serving at maid cafes. Hoping to fulfill her dream of becoming one, she moves to Akihabara to work at the maid cafe Ton Tokoton.
Nagomi’s first day seems completely normal—until she has to run an “errand” at a rival maid cafe along with her fellow recruit, the mature Ranko Mannen. There, things quickly go south, and Nagomi soon gets her first taste of Akihabara’s violent maid wars. As she watches Ranko calmly battle her way through a horde of gun- and knife-wielding maids, Nagomi realizes that maid cafes are drastically unlike what she had envisioned.
While struggling to reconcile her expectations with the harsh reality she finds herself in, Nagomi searches for the enjoyment she once saw in the lives of maids.
Propaganda:
It was animated by P.A. Works! As far as I know, they also worked on Buddy Daddies, Angel Beats, Ya Boy Kongming, etc. Cygames also contributed to this anime!! The story is creative as well. Who would’ve thought of a cute maid mafia anime? Keep in mind, this is a P. A. Works ORIGINAL. They went SO crazy on this anime. There’s also 12 episodes, which means that you can binge it all on one day and still be satisfied :D The OP and ED are also catchy, creative and unskippable. Despite its dark themes, it can sometimes get a little more “lighthearted” and silly, even in the most violent scenes ;P
Trigger Warnings: Flashing Lights, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore.
Just like what I explained, it’s violent. A lot of guns. And a lot of blood. Yes, they kill fellow maids in like every episode ever lol. Also, since Akiba is known to have flashy street signs, like every city ever…. And the guns, of course…that’s why I put the Flashing Lights warning.

Bake Date
Fresh from the human world, you can't help but feel out of place as the new lady of the manor. Far too used to having to take care of yourself and Iruma by doing everything from cooking and cleaning to working long hours in the hopes of giving him a better life, you felt rather disgruntled at having absolutely nothing to do. After all, your adoption into the Sullivan family meant getting a do-it-all family butler who refused to allow you to do anything even remotely based in those categories. However, in all these years you had actually grown rather fond of baking.
And come hell or high water, you were going to enjoy the kitchen space again.
You understood it, really.
Opera had been hired as a security devil, and part of that job description included taking care of all the household duties, so their masters could focus. It was considered quite the insult, Sullivan had explained, to even so much as imply that they weren't up to standards. Which probably explained why everything in the manner was suddenly sparkling, and a feast prepared the next time you had left your room, a mere ten minutes after the first time you made your request.
Plus, after all those years of taking care of both yourself and then Iruma, it was a rather nice break to leave everything to someone else's care. Even if it did leave you feeling a little...ennui. Especially since you had grown rather fond of one particular "chore" that often left you feeling very relaxed at the end.
Baking.
The systematic method of putting ingredients together, the scent of freshly baked goods wafting through your small home, the joy of seeing others smile as they indulged in your treats. It was cathartic and addicting. And with being stolen from your home and subsequently dropped into what was essentially demon royalty, you had been denied, multiple times, your favoured drug.
This, obviously, would not do.
Not if they expected you to stay sane, at least.
Your opponent may be an undefeated demon who always seemed to just know things, but you wouldn't back down so easily. As a human, you have many biological ups at your disposal, the best ones for this circumstance being adaptability and patience.  You simply had to wait for Opera to let their guard down and leave the kitchen unguarded.
Normally, such a task would be impossible. For a race considered vastly incautious, Opera didn't seem to know how to not be on guard, and with your asking for the usage of the kitchen, a number of times, has taken to keeping a particular eye on it. You couldn't seem to get within ten feet without them appearing and asking if you needed something.
But that was fine because your patience won in the end. Mostly.
With the summer holiday ending and after the whole Walter Park fiasco, Sullivan had decided to take Iruma shopping in town. This meant Opera would be tagging along for various reasons. It had been quite easy to beg off going as well. Claiming that you wanted away from crowded areas until school began again (you still hadn't forgiven Sullivan for the whole news debacle) and that you would just spend the time relaxing.
Which was entirely true. You would just be relaxing in the kitchen rather than the library, as you implied. At first, you weren't certain you would be dragged along, what with Opera staring deep into your soul through your eyes. You were sure you had been caught before you had even begun.
Instead, they simply blinked and inclined their head to you, stating they would leave a tray of tea and snacks in the library for you to partake in while you read, before turning on their heels. You watched Opera's retreating figure with a sense of triumph, your heart pounding with excitement. They had taken the bait, hook, line, and sinker. With a quiet and knowing smile, you watched carefully from your spot by the window until a carriage was driven by the familiar sight of the red-haired butler through the gates. You waited patiently for them to disappear from sight over the horizon before making your move.
Stepping into the spacious kitchen, you couldn't help but feel a rush of nostalgia. The polished marble countertops, the gleaming stainless steel appliances, and the array of utensils neatly arranged on the walls all whispered an invitation. It was as if the kitchen itself had missed you, even though you had never stepped foot into this particular one before.
Your gaze landed on the pristine oven, and your fingers itched to create something delightful. You weren't about to let this golden opportunity go to waste. After all, you had a plan, and it involved baking.
Your first task was to gather the necessary ingredients. Fortunately, you had become well-acquainted with the cookbooks in Sullivan Manor's library during your stay. With a practised eye, you selected flour, sugar, eggs, and a few other essentials. You were a master at improvising, and you didn't need a recipe to create something delicious. Even if you should probably have started with one due to the differences between food in the two worlds.
As you began to mix the ingredients in a large bowl, you felt a sense of peace settle over you. Baking was your refuge, your solace. It was a way to express your love and care for others, even in a world as chaotic as the Netherworld. The scent of the ingredients blending together filled the kitchen, and you couldn't help but smile. It was a comforting aroma that made you feel at home, no matter where you were. You continued to work, your hands moving with practised precision as you shaped the dough and prepared it for baking.
Just as you were about to put your creation in the oven, you heard a noise from the doorway. Startled, you turned to see Opera standing there, an accusatory expression on their face, despite it not changing at all.
"Ah, I should have expected to find you here," they said, voice calm and collected as ever.
You smiled sheepishly. "I just wanted to bake something. It's something I've always enjoyed, you know, and you guard this kitchen so well, which I understand really! It's your domain as a security devil, but baking has always been my safe place. My thing to help me relax and not go crazy. It's why I kept trying to sneak in here."
Opera regarded you with an unreadable look, slowly blinking large eyes at you as you rambled on. "Baking?"
You nodded, your determination unwavering. "Yes, baking! I love the methodical process of mixing things together and the smells of pastries cooking. I promise I won't make a mess. You can stay and watch if you'd like. Maybe I can even convince you to try a slice of my pie when it's done."
Opera hesitated for a moment, their head tilting sideways slightly, ears twitching a little in what you presumed was interest. "Well, since you've gone through all this trouble, I suppose I can spare a few minutes to watch. But I'll be keeping a close eye on you."
You grinned, feeling a sense of victory. "Deal."
As you worked together to prepare the cake, you found that Opera was, unsurprisingly, rather helpful. Always offering suggestions on what ingredients go best together and even lending a hand when needed — the biting cherries bag was surprisingly heavy. The tension between you slowly melted away, and before you knew it, you were chatting and laughing as if you had known each other for much longer.
As the pie baked in the oven, you both sat down at the kitchen table, sharing stories and getting to know each other better. It was a pleasant surprise, and you couldn't help but be grateful for the unexpected turn of events. When the timer finally let out a sound that rather resembled a dying scream to you, the pie was finally ready. Carefully, you gripped a towel, pulled out the circular glass dish and gently placed it on a cooling rack Opera had set up for you. You sliced a generous portion for Opera, placing it on a plate and handing it to them with a smile. "Here, give it a try. I promise it's not poisonous." Though you couldn't say the same for anything Iruma might attempt in the future.
Opera took a bite and their eyes widened in surprise. "This is... incredible. You really are quite the baker."
You beamed with pride, feeling a warmth in your chest, cutting a similar-sized piece for yourself. "I'm glad you like it."
As you both enjoyed the pie together, it became clear that this impromptu baking session had turned into something more. It was a moment of connection and understanding, and you couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, there could be more to your relationship with Opera than you had initially thought. As the afternoon sun streamed into the kitchen, and Opera left to pick up Sullivan and Iruma from town, you realized that sometimes, the best moments in life were the ones you never expected.
In hindsight, you also realized you could have just told Opera why you wanted in here so badly, rather than resorting to practically breaking and entering.
Alls well that ends well, though.

Best Underrated Anime Group F Round 2: #F5 vs #F8
#F5: Tiny princess torments an entire castle of demons for sleep
#F8: Young boy gets sold to a demon to be his grandson
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#F5: Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle (Maoujou de Oyasumi)
youtube
Summary:
The Demon Lord Tasogare’s castle is a dark and frightening place, filled to the brim with various monsters. Any soul unfortunate enough to be imprisoned here is sure to be terrified by the horrors within. However, the human princess Aurora Suya Rhys “Syalis” Kaymin is a different case. Rather indifferent to her situation, Syalis worries about one thing and one thing only—sleep. Ever since the demon lord kidnapped her from her kingdom, she has not had a single good night’s rest.
To alleviate her dozen dozing issues, the princess makes do with what she can find in the castle. Whether it be the fur of fluffy demonic teddy bears or the silky, blanket-like bodies of ghost shrouds, everything is but a means to ensure a peaceful slumber. With so many potential materials to craft items that can help her sleep at her disposal, nothing will stop the sleepy princess—not even death.
Propaganda 1:
This show is probably the single most charming parody of a fantasy RPG setting I’ve ever seen. It takes an extremely generic premise and flips it on its head with a simple shift in protagonist. The characters are all fun in their own right, but Princess Suya steals the show through extreme slapstick violence against her captors and a nonchalant attitude towards literally everything that isn’t immediately related to sleep. While it’s easy for a plot like this to quickly become comedically stale, the show is careful to avoid exhausting its premise by introducing new characters that serve as unique obstacles to Suya’s goals as well as by ramping up the audacity of her actions. Additionally, we get occasional glimpses at the hero’s party as they quest to ‘rescue’ the princess, scenes that serve both as story progression as well as a nice change of pace from the princesses antics. While the premise may not be for everyone, this show executes on its concept flawlessly for anyone who finds the premise amusing.
Propaganda 2:
The art style is cute and the character designs are quite pleasant and even the side characters are entertaining. the main character is tiny princess with purple hair and pronouns who’s actually glad to have been kidnapped by the demon king because she gets sleep but oh no, the bedsheets suck and the pillow feels cheap. she goes to find material for new bedding and pillow and ends up tormenting several demons.
Trigger Warnings: None.

Something I love about M!iK and don't really see be often talked about is the morals of the story.
Shonen stories usually have to work under the same story restrictions of "power of friendship" and "we can accomplish anything by never giving up!", and while MIK certainly has that, I adore the way they twist it.
Yes, both tropes are present but taken to their absolute extreme. Power of friendship? Ok, here's a huge cast of characters who are all in some level Extremely Possesive of eachother. Never give up on your dreams? Alright, the cast are literal demons who feed on desire.
And the best part is that this is openly encouraged by the story. The story is saying "Yes, be selfish! Chase what or who you want without any shame! Take what you love and guard it ferociously because it's YOURS and no one is allowed to harm it."
Iruma's character growth is not connected to "how much more powerful can he get?" Or "how much better of a person can he be?". He's already powerful and he's already a deeply good kid. His growth is explicitly about how much more demonic he can be.
How much more tightly can he hold onto his loved ones and his desires.
How much more selfish.
Just how refresing is it to read a story where gluttony is a virtue and a goal?
