Biological Complications of Being A Kaiju
Here we are with my personal thoughts on the possible biological changes done to Kaiju No. 8's Kafka Hibino. I will be talking about different biology such as reproductive amongst others things. Fair warning that shit will get weird. (Nothing is sacred with kaiju.) Now let's get started.
Kafka's kaiju form has traits seen from various different animals mainly reptiles and sharks. His hide acts closer to that of the Nurse Shark with some traits of marine iguanas alongside poisonous frogs. Thanks to this, he can secrete substances like poison or liquid waste from his entire body. (Kafka doesn't fully know this because otherwise the man would never use his nips like THAT again.)
Similar to Marine Iguanas, his kaiju side is an very adept swimmer. Kafka's average speed can be clocked around 80mph in water but he could go even faster by manifesting a tail and webbing his hands/feet. The awkward shape of his neck conceals special gils that filters out water or harmful gases.
Kafka is cold blooded to a degree. He prefers seeking out warmth by sunbathing but it'll take constant extreme cold to make him hibernate. Attempts to force him into such a state will result in his kaiju side growing thick fur similar to polar bears as a defense mechanism. This coat being shed off over the course of Spring and regrown during the fall.
Kafka's body will adapt under extremely stressful situations. These particular changes can be difficult to near impossible for him to will away as they were done by Tiny(Mosquito Kaiju). Pecking order involving alterations to their kaiju form: Tiny, Kafka, Ai.
Fangs are very similar to that of any shark. Should Kafka lose any then new ones normally grow in after two minutes. His jaw strengthens matches that of an alligator mixed with a snapping turtle. Unless Kafka lets go then breaking his teeth is the only way to free oneself. Although the fangs will be embedded in his victim as a way to cripple them.
Kafka has a tendency to shed his scales from time to time. A normal process as its a way for his body to naturally dispose of the dead ones. Losing large patches occurs from either sickness or bi-annual molting.
Similar to a lizard, Kafka can climb and hang on different surfaces. His claws are perfect to retain his grip should the climbing target be slippery or someone tries to pull him off. If push comes to shove, one adaptation Kafka can use is camouflage similar to a chameleon.
*Reproductive Section is here. You can skip this as nothing new is past it.*
Reproductive organs are still present even in kaiju form. Similar to a lizard, Kafka's genitals are hidden behind a cloaca for protection. His kaiju form comes with both sets of reproductive organs i.e male and female.
The species are highly adaptive when it comes to keeping their population numbers stable. Kafka wasn't exactly happy to learn about this change. Especially since most kaiju are the egg laying type, his included.
Should conception occur then at least 3-5 eggs are laid after 3 weeks. During that time period, Kafka will eat twice his body weight and be quite aggressive around unfamiliar faces. A nest is also made from various bedding materials like pillows, blankets, to even mattresses.
Eggs will hatch in the span of 4-7 weeks. Newborn hatchlings are the size of kittens and have small fangs as they only feed on meat or fish at this age. They age at the same rate humans do thus reach full maturity in around 20 years. All of them will have a human form and obtain it at the 4-5 year mark.
Similar to a possum, Kafka will carry any whelp he has on his back. His instincts make it difficult for him to leave them alone for too long until they are at least 3 months old. It'll take some heavy persuasion from anyone close to Kafka to have someone babysit for him during that time period.
Experimenting with Kaiju biology is quite the acid trip, huh?

Godzilla 1998 had one very cool idea: the idea that kaiju mutated from small creatures are particularly dangerous
( doesn’t work with the implied marine iguana origin but let’s excuse that as a lot reptiles were show and its vague what specifically mutated into the titular kaiju)
But a creature with the instincts of a prey creature will feel exposed as a kaiju. It will seek shelter and cover desperately.
And a city with a skyline and many tunnels would be very tempting. A giant forest of concrete and metal…

Have you made any Kaiju? Or other pacrim Critters? o:
Alright, time to talk about the Cyber-Kaiju. Infringer is the first of the Cyber-Kaiju, the one who kicks off the plot by attacking L.A. Infringer's unique among the Cyber-Kaiju in that its cybernetics are entirely internal, the heroes think it's a normal Kaiju until Newt dissects its brain. Appearance wise, it's bipedal like Leatherback, with a kinda flared triceratops head. Also its mouth opens in a weird flower shape like the Demogorgon from Stranger Things, and it uses its long barbed tongue like a whip. Ebonclaw comes second. Monica sends it to Shanghai with the plan to smash up Pudong International Airport and delay Newt's arrival in L.A. Saber Phoenix arrives on the scene, and there's another cool Jaeger v Kaiju fight, that ends with Ebonclaw doing something no Kaiju has ever done before: retreat. Ebonclaw basically looks like a cross between a vulture and a marine iguana, with some freaky long velociraptor claws. Its cybernetics are subtle, mostly some barely visible circuitry around the eyes. Chromus is the third Cyber-Kaiju, and this is where the plot starts getting really into the hivemind stuff. Basically, after doing some detective work, the good guys find out that whoever's behind the Cyber-Kaiju is using the abandoned Anchorage Shatterdome as a base. Newt, Hermann, and Midnight Rosa's pilots go to investigate. The place is empty save for Chromus, who wakes up, and accidentally pulls on Newt's hivemind connection, forcing him to experience the Cyber-Kaiju's thoughts. Chromus is a squat, bulky creature, kind of like an alligator. It's got a lot of visible cybernetics, including a plasma cannon arm. Deathstrike forms the final trio of Cyber-Kaiju. At the climax, Monica sics three Kaiju on Tokyo, and they're her nastiest creations yet. Deathstrike is the biggest and baddest, with blades in its cybernetic arms, a spiked tail that acts as a whip, and electrokinesis. It can shoot bolts of lightning, has an EMP, and can absorb electricity from the environment around it. Ryujin is a snakey, dragon-like Cyber-Kaiju. It can coil around targets like a constrictor snake, has acid spit, and it's got these long catfish whiskers that can deliver electric shocks. Mechasaur is, second to Infringer, probably the most important Cyber-Kaiju in this fic. During the final battle, Newt and Hermann are stuck inside the Tokyo Shatterdome, captured by Monica and her minions. For the whole fic, they've been struggling with their connection to the Hivemind, getting nosebleeds, migraines, sensory overload, brief periods of thinking like Kaiju. Newt's been able to briefly control some of the Cyber-Kaiju, but not without almost losing himself in the Hivemind. But this time, he's got Hermann helping him, so when he reaches out, the two of them essentially trigger a Drift without a neural bridge, taking control of Mechasaur's body and "piloting" it like a Jaeger. Mechasaur is built like a therapod dinosaur, with a cybernetic jaw for extra crushing power, and armor plates along its back, chest, and sides. Oh also there are these dog-sized Cyber-Kaiju called "Rippers" that Monica sends out to infiltrate and kill anyone who gets in her way. She sics them on the heroes (especially Newt) multiple times.

My family had iguanas when i was a child, we were part of a local iguana rescue program. I have a soft spot for iguanas, so when I saw the Godzilla movie where Godzilla was a mutated marine iguana I audibly squeed whenever Godzilla came on screen, and I  binged through the cartoon series made for the movie afterword's, just to get more iguana Godzilla action
that being said, I believe this was not the best choice of lizard for Godzilla, if Godzilla is to be a mutated lizard instead of iguana, it should be the kamado dragon
Carnivorous, can swim, has a mouth so packed full of bacteria and venom that scientist argue which is what kills you, and has a nasty temper,
meanwhile marine iguanas eat primarily seaweed and don’t even eat fish, though they may end up eating small crustations/sea bugs that are in the seaweed they eat, they don’t hunt for anything and are basically herbivores

Monster March #9 - “Cry Havoc...”
A speculative idea of what if Navy trained Zillas were used to track other monsters and tackle those they can handle. Like HEAT from “Godzilla The Series” but more Zillas.

I really like animal documentaries, so when it comes to kaijus and how I make my head canons about their species and behavior, I take inspiration and reference from real animals. I often use a mix of different animals, because I want to make it feel like they're actual animals

I guess crocodiles and marine iguanas are the closest thing to an actual Gojira. Since they look the part XD
Do not repost my stuff!!

The monsterverse is so funny djdjsj we get human conflicts that boil down to "let's argue about our different psychoanalysis of the kaiju that's currently wrecking like hundreds of skyscrapers with giant beams outside, heck let's mix in our failing marriage and estranged parent-child relationship with this, so as a bonus I can work with a terroist group to unleash a murder beast on my ex-husband in Antarctica"
or "let's form parasocial relationships with the giant radioactive marine iguana like he knows me personally"

New follower, and since your blog has that name (also the schooling you gave), I have to ask: What kind of teeth do you think the King of the Kaiju - Gojira (Or as he's mainly known, Godzilla) has?
The quick answer is teeth like a T. rex, but we don’t do quick here. We do long, over-thought answers- and if you look at Godzilla’s life history (such as it is throughout the divergent canon), T. rex teeth don’t actually make sense.
However, it’s hard to pin down exactly what does make sense. Godzilla as an entity spans more than thirty films from several different studios. The Japanese films are divided into three different stylistic eras, and then there’s the three American films. There’s also the cartoons, various comics, I think there’s a manga... but which is the correct Godzilla? Is there one Godzilla? Many Godzillas? Are all of the daikaiju known as Godzilla actually the same species? They often look radically different from each other, have different emergence patterns, different rampage/hunting strategies, and different motivations. If we only talk about Godzilla classique, the 1954 Godzilla, we miss out on the way that Godzilla has changed and evolved over the years- and I think that’s a shame, because every aspect of the Godzilla story helps build the allegory.
I like to think that every Godzilla is an aspect of the True Godzilla; Godzilla is akin to a mythical figure in that the creature’s existence and motivations are hard to pin down. Godzilla is a force of nature, but also a force of supernature; he is a metaphor for the destructive power of radiation, but also a hero in defense of earth. His origin, like many other mythological figures, is in the sea; in nearly all canons, Godzilla rises from the depths of the ocean to teach humanity a lesson, and his defeat is never truly final; he returns in one form or another. In a sense, his physical form, as mutable as it is, reflects well on his presence as the king of all monsters, the ultimate daikaiju, the strangest of beasts. All Godzillas, no matter how flawed, show something of That Which Is Godzilla. Godzilla’s oceanic origin is vital to his presence as a creature of modern mythos. Plenty of allegorical figures arise from the sea; in world mythology, it usually indicates that parentage isn’t particularly important, as well as that which arises from the sea being unstoppable or irresistable. It makes a lot of sense, really- we know more about deep space than we do about the deep ocean.
And from a practical standpoint, an oceanic origin means that whatever evolution the creature went through, it was definitely eating marine resources. On land, Godzilla isn’t really shaped correctly for going after prey; in the water, his thick tail, powerful neck, and upright posture could easily translate to an elegant swimmer. When I look at the original Godzilla, I’m reminded of a marine iguana in many ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even after the rubber-suit era, Godzilla still maintains a vertical posture on land. Obligate terrestrial bipedalism doesn’t really suit a fast hunter; if Godzilla was any good at catching terrestrial prey, he’d be a persistence hunter. But Godzilla isn’t interested in hunting for food, really; typhoons don’t chase down one person in particular. No, when Godzilla eats, it’s in the water- and I would go so far as to suggest that Godzilla has far more in common with other piscivores than he does with any terrestrial dinosaurs. Specifically, I think Godzilla’s teeth would be something of a mix between alligator teeth and the elongated teeth of predatory fish like gar and barracudas, and this dentition would change over time as the need for these teeth change.
Like many other mythological beings, Godzilla doesn’t really need to eat, or at least eat food as we understand it. He draws energy from radiation (consuming our sins and turning them against us- seriously, there’s a lot of cool allegorical stuff when you look at kaiju eiga as a whole), but Godzilla clearly has teeth, and his juvenile forms/offspring are seen eating. Given this, one might surmise that like many insects, eating becomes redundant in the fully adult form, and perhaps might only be necessary for younger/smaller/weaker Godzillas. The most recent film to depict an immature Godzilla was Shin Godzilla, and if you look at the immature forms, you’ll see long, thin teeth that look the same throughout the jaw.
Tumblr media
Teeth like that are simple and peg-like; they’re not rooted and replace themselves throughout the animal’s lifespan. The length, sharp points, and lack of curvature or serration remind me very much of the type of teeth you see in an alligator gar.
Tumblr media
They also don’t really align- this isn’t an animal that can chew well, and it’s likely the alveolar margins are thin. But it’s likely that Godzilla doesn’t really need to chew well; the atomic breath weapon is substantial enough for destruction, and when Godzilla bites down, chewing is less important than the initial chomp- much like you see with piscivorous animals, as well as aquatic predators like alligators.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s the bite and hold and then throw using those powerful neck muscles that makes Godzilla a threat to vehicles- not his ability to chew them up! Interestingly enough, the fully matured Godzilla’s teeth are often homodont- the same shape and general size throughout the mouth- with the exception of the canines, which are enlarged. This is often seen in mammals, but the homodont dentition is more like a reptile (or a toothed whale). Teeth like this aren’t always for hunting and eating, though- they are sometimes simply for combat or display. In Godzilla’s case, this is clearly for combat with other daikaiju. This is in line with the general depiction of a large reptilian carnivore, which are often adapted for surviving territorial conflict with other large reptilian carnivores. Crocodilians are a perfect example of this. Their osteoderms and highly vascularized bone (it helps distribute bite pressure), coupled with their robust immune systems help them survive bloody conflicts and the risk of infection they see afterwards. Godzilla’s aggression and conflict towards other daikaiju actually rarely involves teeth- like, look at this fight from GMK in 2001, where Godzilla fights King Ghidorah.
youtube
When Godzilla does use his mouth, it’s to hold, not to tear or rend. If he was fighting in the water, perhaps a hold and roll (what crocodilians do) would be useful for combat; as it is, his elemental powers are more useful versus a flying opponent.
Godzilla’s teeth are both like and unlike any living creature’s, which makes sense, as Godzilla (and all kaiju) are Strange Beasts. They don’t have to make total sense- that’s part of their majesty and part of their purpose.

Not as much as your think. Something funny about either path is that thanks to Kafka's nature, whelps don't really see him as a threat like most things is.
If anything, they are very confused by him as they can smell certain pheromons and such from his kaiju side that somehow make it easier for for him to capture them.
Its really a funny thing as most will end up see Kafka holding the whelp or whelps without issue. And the things are just very calm and some times even palyful while in his arms.
Though he can get in trouble with the parents. He's not safe from that.
Speaking of which, when it comes to the muted kaiju form Kafka has in this au it will change as he ages.
His tail becomes long enough that its the same lenght as Kafka's high. With an added foot after Tiny upgrades him. The cracks become less and more refine and smooth for lack of better words.
His mask also change too, becoming more like the one he has in canon through small changes here and there. His colours also change a few shades as well. The dull greyish white becoming more clear and the dark grey becoming more black too.
He also gains gills and webbed feet and hands like his mom, though those partly disapper when Tiny comes along. The small kaiju keeps them, they are just hidden more and only comes out when needed.
His hide and scales also change a bit. Along with his bone spine too. Both become more strudy and flexible. The spine even gain a strange grey pattern for a few months before becoming a strak white colour.
Kafka also goes through a terrible growth sprut as well once he it his 20s. One that makes so doctors as to give him strong meds for the pain it giving him. Thats when his muted kaiju form those its final changes and won't change again until 12 years later when Tiny finds Kafka.
I just imagine Kafka comically putting the whelp down near their parents and disappearing in a dust cloud similar to a cartoon. No way is he gonna test his luck any further. Fastest whelp return ever.
He's absolutely shark, marine iguana and piranha coded. Someone needs to drop his ass in the water. I just imagine if this Kafka ever met Sonic from my crossover AU then he would definitely call our 'Fish Dad' or any other scale related nickname.
Slightly unrelated but I see Kafka's kaiju form being different if he ever acquired it at a younger age in canon. Tiny would make subtle changes or tweaks constantly after every experience since he isn't an adult and thus has room to grow. Growth spurts definitely be a bitch either way from the pain to bumping his head constantly against the doorway.
