I know I’ve been on tumblr too much because heard someone say “Marine Corps” today and my brain interpreted it as “marinecore” and I thought it meant military aesthetic images.

Stop using the term ‘coconut girl’
This is not an attack on anyone, nor am I particularly angered by anyone who uses the aforementioned term since they may be unaware of its inherent meaning. I understand the tag is very popular for 'beach aesthetic posts' and whatnot, and I know not using them will mean less exposure to your blog, but I implore you to stop using the term altogether.
Coconut girl is a racist term used against Polynesians. Calling someone a 'coconut' is also akin to saying that they are a person of colour, yet do not adhere to racist stereotypes (acting, dressing or speaking in a 'black' fashion). Naming a beach-related aesthetic after a racist remark used predominantly against Polynesians is incredibly offensive and innapropriate. It makes it even weirder that most people who associate with this aesthetic are white. We should instead name the aesthetic or fashion something else, like beach girl or surfer girl, and if that's too non-specific, maybe even words such as seashellcore or marinecore (I might use those tags actually).
I would also like to clarify that the word 'coconut' in and of itself isn't offensive, but when you call someone a coconut or use the term coconut girl, it is.
In conclusion, I think we as a community need to stop using offensive terms to describe our aesthetic and instead choose new ones. There's also the whole 'cultural appropriation' aspect of the aesthetic but that's a whole other can of worms that I'm not willing to unpack right now. As well as that, only some aspects of the beachy aesthetic count as cultural appropriation and as long as you are mindful, you can avoid these aspects of it.
Here are some non-offensive tags you can use instead of 'coconut girl':
★ beachcore ★ summercore ★ oceancore ★ beach girl ★ surfer girl ★ marinecore ★ tropicalcore ★ shinecore ★ gyaru ★ seashellcore ★ watercore ★
I'm sure there are many other tags you can use, just do your research and look at other beachcore posts and see what (non-offensive) tags they use! Hopefully this post helped or educated at least one person. If I made any mistakes of any kind, please alert me ^-^ !! Have a good morning/day/afternoon/evening/night !!
