Rating: 5/5
Book Blurb:
A grown up Little Red Riding Hood meets werewolves and witches in a stand alone, adult fantasy romance. To enter the woods as a human means death⌠But I am no mere human. They call me, âwitch." As one of the last surviving witches, Faelynâs sole duty is to keep the protective barriers on the forests where the lykin roamâcreatures who can shed flesh for furâsparing nearby humans from their violent, beastly natures. When she has an unlikely encounter with the rare, primordial spirit of the moon, Faelyn finds herself not only the object of the Wolf Kingâs desire, but essential to his ability to keep his crown. Taken to the magical land of Midscape, the Wolf King claims her as his bride to control the moon spiritâs magic that now resides within Faelyn. But Faelyn refuses to resign herself and the spirit Aurora to a life of servitude underneath the kingâs cruel rule. Faelyn hatches a dangerous plan for them both to escape and help comes from an unlikely ally. Evander is the kingâs blisteringly handsome, loyal knight, right hand, and Faelynâs sworn protectorâŚon the outside. But appearances are not what they seem. He plots against the kingâs brutality at every turn and helping Faelyn escape will serve these ends. But altruism for Faelyn and the trapped moon spirit isnât his only motivation⌠Evander is hiding secrets, and they might change Faelynâs life forever. A desperate plot to escape. A brutal king. Ancient powers. And a sworn protector who canât keep his hands off her⌠Will she be taken as the Wolf Kingâs bride? Or will she manage an escape that will free her heart and change her fate forever? A Dawn with the Wolf Knight is a complete, *stand alone novel*. For readers who love romantasy novels with second-chance/long-lost love, life-changing female friendships, deep lore, forbidden romance, slow-burn, and a happily ever after.About the Married to Magic Novels: Each Married to Magic novel is a stand alone, fantasy romance about a young woman being taken to the world of Midscape and falling in love with a magical man. These novels can be read in any order and have no overarching plot or characters.
Review:
A witch who wants to do what is right finds herself stuck in a complicated mess while trying to save the moon spirit... while dealing with a Wolf King who is determined to control her and take her for his new bride yet her forbidden attraction to the noble knight who is meant to guard her is getting harder to resist. Faelyn is one of the last weaver witches and after the last of her family passes awat she spends her days after collecting herbs and spending time with the spirits that reside in her home. Yet when she saves a strange girl in the woods who turns out to be a moon spirit running away from an evil wolf king hellbent on enslaving her, Faelyn feels duty bound to save her.... only the king has sent his knights to capture her and now Faelyn has been captured as well since the moon spirit has given her half her power. Evander is the noble and âloyalâ knight of the wolf king, bound to him and his sole duty is to protect the moon spirit. Evander might seem loyal but his loyalties lie somewhere else and his motives are hard to tell yet one thing is certain, he hates the wolf king. The wolf king is determined to obtain the moon spirits power and if forcing Faelyn to marry him and control her then he'll do it whether she wants it or not.
Trust is earned, power is fought for, and a romance that even the fates can't break. A fantastic story with touches of Little Red Riding Hood and a bit of Howls Moving Castle. I absolutely adored this addition to the series. Faelyn and Evanderâs romance was so well done and the way they were fated to be together and kept coming back for one another was just so well written. I also loved the magic and the friendships in this book so much. Faelyn is such a sweet character and Evander was the perfect love interest for her. If you love forbidden knight romances and fated romances, this is for YOU. I've been such a huge fan of this series and I can't wait for more from this world!

đ August Reading Round-Up đ
I'm very happy that I was able to read (and finish) quite a few books this month! My reading selection was also perhaps a bit more varied, with a non-fiction book thrown in. I began reading the Tea Princess Chronicles by Casey Blair (very good, so lovely), continued with the next volume of Spy x Family, and read books newly published as well as older.
- The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Ann Older (very good, loved the worldbuilding, interesting plot)
- Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey (really enjoyed it, definitely cried a bit toward the end, a lot of interesting tropes and themes, good worldbuilding, liked how many of the themes were handled)
- Batman: Wayne Family Adventures Volume One by Payne and Starbite (lovely, so happy I get to have a physical copy, can't wait for volume two)
- A Dance with the Fae Prince by Elise Kova (liked it a lot, loved the themes and the romance, good character growth)
- Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann (re-read, well-written, interesting and illuminating, difficult subject matter, felt the narration treated the subject material well for the most part, interested in seeing the movie adaptation)
- A Coup of Tea by Casey Blair (amazing, lovely, binged it in almost one sitting, loved the themes and characters and how it was all put together, as well as the focus on tea, diverse in a good and welcoming way)
- The Physicians of Vilnoc by Lois McMaster Bujold (loved it, tough subject matter however, Penric and Desdemona as lovely as always, enjoyed the philosophical themes and questions)
- Ancillary Sword by Ann Leckie (great, loved it, missed Seivarden a bit though, great themes and characters, made me want to re-read the first book)
- Spy x Family Volume 6 by Tatsuya Endo (Cute, funny, engrossing, more of a tight one-arc story which I liked, has the famous lullaby Yor and Loid scene, Nightfall was hilarious, a key moment finally occurred!)
- Tea Set and Match by Casey Blair (loved it, a lot of communication, loved the themes and how it was handled, cathartic, interesting understanding of the MC's privilege (and how she can use it)
- The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison (re-read, interesting, the narration was amazing and really sold the story, liked the back half of the book more, some very dry and funny and witty parts, wanted more things to be fixed/dealt with, Maia's internalized racism is never really questioned by him)
- Outlaw Mage by KS Villoso (had backed the Kickstarter, very good, read it in a few sittings, enjoyed the characters and themes, tried to figure out how the book connected to the other series in that world, enjoyable and thought-provoking, not too subtle, want to know what happens next)

3.5 stars
This was actually a fairly enjoyable, lighthearted little fantasy romance. I struggle with fantasy romances that really put the main focus on the romance because I tend to always want more focus elsewhere or want more depth. I'm really trying to learn to just accept the vibes of books like these to enjoy them better.
I guessed exactly what needed to happen to solve the main problem of the book very early on because it's pretty painfully obvious. However that doesn't really ruin the book. I found the researching bit of her reading the journals and learning about her magic and the experiences of the women before her to be just as important. It does kind of make it a little dull because really a whole fat lot of nothing happens other than reading, healing, and stuff.
I really don't like the worldbuilding in mostly question and answer formula. The other half of it is crammed into very stilted and awkward dialogue that no one would ever say. The actual beginning of this novel was kind of wild and cringe-y but it evens out.
I did like Luella, although she's a tad bit too selfless at times. The Elf King was also good and I liked watching him warm up. I do like that they communicated quite well (again some weird dialogue but not terribly). I thought they were cute and enjoyed the romance. I actually liked Harrow and would have liked to see more of him.
I see how the world is open to other novels and I'd probably read them.
Overall, fairly good.

Duel with the Vampire Lord | Elise Kova
I read book 1 in this series and just finished book 3. I definitely think book 1 (A Deal with the Fae King) is more succinct, but there's a lot to enjoy in Vampire Lord. It's silly and fun but I think some of the world building is a bit overwhelming. To clarify, each of these married to magic books are standalone stories in a (sort of) related world. There are references to characters in other books but very tangentially. All of the stories are about a girl who ends up in a fantastical forced marriage. If that's your jam I recommend the series, especially the audiobook.

This month we're reading "A duel with the vampire lord" by Elise Kova in my book club and I couldn't help but doing this bc of this dialogue:
âYour people thrive off it.â
âDo we look like weâre thriving?â he says coolly, leaning closer. I can feel angry power vibrating the air around him. âTell me, from what you have seen, is this the mighty vampire horde you were expecting?â
I know, I know, it's not the accurate reaction but I thought of that Lisa meme. Also yes, I used Alucard's clothes for inspo (it's really similar to the cover art for the book)
