Funniest part is it's not actually Curi in the music video, the "rover footage" in the video is an animation of FRICKING PERSEVERANCE
THEY GOT THE ROVER WRONG
I will never let them live this down

I just cannot get over the idea that if Earth's satellites and such are her little RC toys and projects, then Mars must absolutely LOVE all the rovers and stuff sent her way~

Haven't seen anything about Ingenuity on tumblr yet, so I guess I'll make a post about it
Tumblr media
Ingenuity (sometimes called Ginny) was an companion craft to Perseverance, one of the rovers currently on Mars. As opposed to any of the past rovers, however, Ingenuity was a rotorcraft intended to fly above Mars' surface.
After landing on Mars in February of 2021 and completing its first flight on April 19th, 2021, Ingenuity became the first aircraft to fly on another planet. Its original goal was only 5 flights, but it well surpassed that number, logging 72 flights with over two hours of in-air time.
On January 18th, 2024, Ingenuity lost contact with Perseverance midway through a flight, and a few days later, NASA had confirmation that the rotors were damaged, leaving Ingenuity incapable of flight.
So long, Ingenuity. You did so much <3

This is the project that used me up and burned me out, and the one that I'm most proud of having been a part of. I saw it through 10 years from powerpoint slides to samples placed on the surface of Mars. Perseverance by name and Perseverance by nature.
Evidence of ancient lake sediments at the base of Mars' Jezero Crater offer new hope for finding traces of life in samples collected by NASA's Perseverance rover.聽 Perseverance touched down on Feb. 18, 2021 inside the Red Planet's 28-mile-wide (45 kilometers) Jezero Crater, which is believed to have once hosted a large lake and river delta. The rover has been scouring the crater in search of signs of past life and collecting and caching dozens of samples along the way for a possible future return to Earth.聽

y'all i just learned that the spot where Genny (Ingenuity, the little helicopter that went to Mars on Perseverance) had her last hard landing that snapped a rotor blade?
They named the spot Valinor Hills.
I fucking can't. I'm crying over the Mars robots again.

Difference between the wheels of Curiosity and Perseverance mars rovers.
After seeing the wear and tear Curiosity's wheels endured while driving over sharp Martian rocks, engineers redesigned Perseverance's to be more robust. They're narrower, with a bigger diameter and thicker aluminum.

On March 15, 2024, near the peak of the current solar cycle, the sun produced a solar flare and an accompanying coronal mass ejection (CME), a massive explosion of gas and magnetic energy that carries with it large amounts of solar energetic particles. This solar activity led to stunning auroras across the solar system, including at Mars, where NASA's Perseverance Mars rover made history by detecting them for the first time from the surface of another planet. "This exciting discovery opens up new possibilities for auroral research and confirms that auroras could be visible to future astronauts on Mars' surface," said Elise Knutsen, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oslo in Norway and lead author of the Science Advances study, which reported the detection.
