Hiramatsu: If the first model was Phichit, for example, it would have been easier for us.

Shishido: The model of Minami-kun had no hair at all and was smiling very happily, so we were calling him 'Marukome-kun'. The CGI footage was made by re-creating the reference footage as it was, but the people, who worked on that footage weren't very knowledgeable about figure skating. So the CGI animation looked just like the reference footage, but if you looked at the details, such as where the center of gravity is or the techniques, they were slightly off. Tatenaka-san and Abiko-san were the people whose job was to correct that.

Abiko: But as much as we could we were working together with Shishido-san. The CGI people became more and more skilled as the time went on, too, and I was impressed.

Shishido: And just like this, by episode 12. the process have been perfected.

Hiramatsu: We were crying when we had just Yuuri and Yurio to animate, and before episode 5. we were thinking 'it's not possible with this number of characters', but after that we had to do twice the number of characters. Even more than twice? As there were 14 characters in total.

Shishido: In every episode, we had to include all the programs, so every episode was jam-packed with skating.

Hiramatsu: Post-episode 6. Shishido-san and Otsuka-san had a conversation with Sayo-san, if it's really necessary to show programs of so many characters, but in the end, they've lost the battle.

This is an interesting unofficial English translation of Danganronpa 1 which includes Japanese cultural references! For example:

"You imagined the Marukome boy, didn't you?" Leon to Makoto when Makoto doubted his appearance as the Ultimate Baseball Star. Marukome-kun is the mascot character of a Japanese miso soup brand, and he's bald. In the official English translation, Leon simply said "What, were you expecting some kid with a shaved head?"

"The scariest thing in this kind of situation is recklessness within a group of peers. Haven’t you heard the stories about the activities of radical student movements?!" Kiyotaka to Mondo when Mondo suggested tying up Byakuya with a rope. The 'radical student movements' (gakusei undou) here may refer to those held by the Zengakuren back in the 60s. But Mondo thought undou as undoukai (sports festival) and talked about 'tug-of-war'. Official translation - "In this situation, there's nothing scarier than when an ally turns loose cannon! It's just like when we were kids, and someone would go crazy at sports day or whatever!"

The scene of Monokuma doing stretches with the students is a reference to the radio exercises hosted by NHK (Japanese public broadcasting company), which are often used in schools, sports, and even in some companies.
