Ophelia Jackson-Clairmont née Foster-Jackson ( insp. & insp. )
Matthew, we have the chance to change history. We can’t just sit back and do nothing. I’m sorry, mon coeur, but there is nothing to be done. I don’t believe that. And I can’t believe that you do, either. Don’t you think that the covenant is wrong? That Philippe was wrong to create it in the first place? I know he was your father, but you have to admit, he was not perfect — no parent is. Creating the covenant did more harm than good. Like I said, there is nothing to be done. The Congregation will ensure that the covenant will never be overruled. I don’t understand why you won’t fight for us. Because to go against something as ancient as the covenant would mean certain death. It is a fight we cannot ever hope to win. So, you’re not even going to try? Ophelia, it is too dangerous. I would never forgive myself if you were harmed. But what about the countless other creatures we could save if we managed to disband the covenant? Matthew, this is about more than just us. Can’t you see that? Please, think about this. Diana and I can’t do this without you and your family. The Congregation has a higher chance of listening to the de Clermonts than a couple of witches who don’t know how to use their magic. Matthew, I’m not proud of it, but I’m begging you. Don’t leave. We can win this fight. I know we can. Please. Ophelia... I love you. There, I said it. I know we’ve only known each other for a month, but I’ve never been more certain of anything in my entire life. I love you, Matthew de Clermont. Ysabeau will continue to ensure your safety here at Sept-Tours while I am in London. You and Diana will be protected. So, that’s it? You’re just going to walk away. I have no choice, Ophelia. There is always a choice. Not always. You’ve been many things in your long life, Matthew de Clairmont, but I never knew you were a coward.

Lets imagine for a second Diana doesn't exist. Who would you ship Mattew with (might be OC)?
Also same thing but love interest for Diana if not Mattew
A/N: Okay, so I have thoughts 😅
For Matthew, if there was no Diana, or if they just never crossed paths, I could see him meet a daemon. They met through Hamish, but she's also friends with Gallowglass. I had to make an OC because I wanted to explore the opportunities of a single Matthew in the present day 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So meet Ainsley, she's a Scottish daemon, and best friends with Gallowglass, as well as with Hamish! 😍
~~~~
As for Diana, if there was no Matthew, I could see her with either Sean or Chris. Those two were the first to come to mind when I got the ask from you the other day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think she had pretty good chemistry with them, as well as history. And if she wanted to continue living like a human, rather than a witch, they would be perfect for her.
If Matthew Clairmont met me: a witch, historian, and teacher in a prison.
Matthew: “, I’m too dangerous. I have killed people. We cannot break the covenant.”
Me: “Bro, I literally am in a room full of rapists and murderers everyday. I teach them math. I’m not really concerned.”
Matthew: “The congregation could have you killed. Or your family.”
Me: “Bet. I know gangs In the tri-state area.”
Part 2
Summary: Sofia is torn between her strong feelings for Matthew and the raw attraction Richard awakes in her. Unaware of the dark desires that hide behind their well-groomed appearance, she longs for something more than their company.
Relationships: Richard Armitage x OC Sofia & Matthew Clairmont x OC Sofia (Vampire AU)
Warnings: 18+, smut, mention of blood
Words: 5,2K
A/N: Not following ADOW canon, just two hot interesting male characters being brothers.
Special thanks to @legolasbadass & @lathalea for your feedback and help! ❤️
When the moon turns red anything can happen.
”You should go inside.” Richard's voice sounded restrained, and in the unusual moonlight that fell on the small balcony, Sofia could see how tense his jaw was. The raw stubble on his cheeks made his handsome face harder, and the veins running on the side of his neck were more visible than before. When he met her gaze, his eyes appeared darker so that they reflected the light of the moon. He let go of her wrist, and when she didn’t immediately leave him, he slowly repeated his words. His piercing gaze made her hold her breath, and he crooked his head slightly. ”Unless you don’t…” his voice faded to a hoarse whisper and then died on his lips.
Sofia didn’t understand his reaction, but something in his eyes told her that she should leave him alone. She didn’t feel rejected, nor had she rejected him. Something dark and possibly even dangerous lurked in the depth of his eyes, and it called to her against her better judgment. When she opened the glass door to the living room, the sound of his dark groan followed her inside.
Standing in the middle of the room, Matthew looked at her with a worried expression on his face. A wave of emotions flooded him when he saw their empty chairs. He didn’t trust his brother.
”Where is Richard?”
”On the balcony.”
”What happened? What did he do?” The words came out fast and in the wrong way but Matthew couldn't stop himself. His brother's words, uttered in the hallway just a few hours ago, rang in his ears. ”We have shared women before, why is she different?”
”I felt dizzy and went outside to get some fresh air. Richard needed the same I guess,” Sofia offered with a weak smile as she walked up to him. The trace of Richard’s long fingers still lingered on her wrist like a silent reminder she couldn’t escape.
Sofia stood in front of him, stunningly beautiful with the dark locks that had escaped her bun softly framing her face, and to Matthew, she could not be more exquisite. He sneaked a hand behind her neck and bent down to kiss her. Unable to taste anything but sweetness on her lips, relief washed over him and he deepened the kiss, knowing that she was untouched by his brother. Richard had not yet made a move on Sofia, but Matthew knew him. He had seen the hunter awake in Richard’s eyes and knew what that meant: he craved her. Matthew feared Richard would find a way to take what he needed if she didn’t give in to him willingly. Not here in his apartment, of course, but later, when she least expected it. It was a rare thing, he admitted; women always seemed to fall for Richard’s rough charm and appearance, and judging by the look in Sofia’s eyes when she came from the balcony, she was not unaffected by Richard’s presence. The only question was if Matthew wanted to be part of the no doubt passionate night where her lust was shared between them or fight his brother to keep Sofia to himself. Richard was right, they had done it before, but the thought of sharing Sofia filled Matthew with an overwhelming feeling of possessiveness. He wanted to remind her about the unspoken words between them so he wrapped his arms around her back and kissed her passionately. A quiet moan fell from her, and the soft vibration against his lips made him eager. This was all he needed, he thought to himself. She was enough to keep him away from his dark nature. He didn’t want to hurt her or mark her skin; she was too precious. Suddenly a cold gust of wind rushed through the room, and he felt her tense in his arms. Richard was back.
Sofia’s heart started to beat faster as soon as Richard entered the room, and she could no longer ignore her body’s reactions. She wanted him. Actually, she wanted them both. The thought of having two pairs of hands exploring her made heat spread from her blushed cheeks down her neck. She broke the kiss and searched Matthew’s eyes for a sign of his feelings, but he gave nothing away. Whatever he was thinking, he hid it from her.
”Don’t let me interrupt,” Richard’s dark rumble filled the room and sent a shiver of excitement down her spine. She could feel Richard’s gaze burning on her back, and just as a magnifying glass placed in the sun over dry grass, it set her on fire. When she pressed her body seductively against Matthew, he grabbed her tighter, pulling a gasp from her. Then he ran one of his hands over her hair and looked at her invitingly parted lips and her pleading eyes. She didn’t need to tell him in words; her body did it for her. She wanted more, and when she looked at him like that, he realized that he would give her anything she asked for. Almost at least. That feeling was new and strange to him. He knew exactly what Richard was after, he just wanted her body, but he didn’t know Sofia that well. Would she reject him if he didn’t let her have what she clearly wanted? Matthew briefly thought about the last time he and Richard had pleasured a woman together. He couldn’t deny that he had enjoyed it back then. With a sigh he swallowed hard and finally abandoned the thought of having her to himself. Slowly, he bent down and brushed his lips against her ear.
“Do you want to continue?” Again he felt her shiver, and he placed a gentle kiss on the soft skin right under her ear. ”I,” he paused and corrected himself, ”We…will give you everything you desire.” His voice was no more than a whisper but it held such a loaded question, and his words made her swallow hard.
”Yes,” The word fell almost shyly from her lips and something dark clouded Matthew’s face.
”Are you sure? You don’t know what you are asking for.”
Sofia pressed her lips against his, and the longing in her eyes made him claim her mouth in another heated kiss. When he intensified their tongue's sensual dance, she closed her eyes and lost herself in the feeling. A sweet vibration in her throat revealed her eagerness as he caught her lower lip between his teeth. Suddenly she became aware of the dark shadow behind her. Richard was so close she could feel the faint smell of his cologne. Matthew always wore a fresh, sporty scent that made her think of commercials featuring bare-chested men sailing as the wind messed up their hair and their eyes glittered like the ocean. His brother radiated sex with his slightly oriental musky scent and the combination of their two smells now as Richard closed the distance and trapped her between them was intoxicating.
”I’m sure Matthew,” Sofia’s voice trembled as the words sank in, making her ache for him. For both of them.
”My brother…” Matthew tried to find the right words but was silenced as Richard placed his hand over the lower part of her throat and gently pulled Sofia against him. When her back rested against his firm chest, he slowly stroked the skin where he felt her pulse beating fast like she was running for her life. His voice was husky when he spoke.
”What Matthew is trying to tell you, is that we both want you. And,” he paused and inhaled deeply with his nose buried in her hair and his grip around her throat tightened, ”I can feel that you want it too.” He wasn’t lying. It was like her body was covered in her needy scent, and if he was to rip off all her clothes, he could lick her skin and taste it on his tongue. But he wouldn’t do that, at least not yet. Now that he knew she wanted him, he had all the time in the world. He groaned at the thought of her heated skin breaking under his lips.
The skin on her upper body was flushed when Matthew lifted the silky blouse over her head and let it fall to the floor. Her chest heaved with every breath she took, and when Richard bent down and murmured something in her ear, her eyes widened, and she bit her lip. A few more secret words, and then she reached for the buttons in Matthew’s shirt. Fascinated, he watched her slowly unbutton it, all while Richard kept her close to his chest. There was no dark magic involved, even if it would have been easy to assume, just pure lust spoken in a voice that made Sofia unable to resist him, and the deeper his voice dropped, the more intense the pressure in her core became and the more she succumbed to his will. When she eagerly pulled Matthew’s shirt from his body, she looked at him with such heat in her eyes that the last feeling of doubt left him. He cupped her face with both of his hands and let his thumbs caress her cheeks before he once again met her lips. She placed her hands on his chest and trailed the defined lines of his muscles with her fingertips.
Richard took a step back and watched her. He admired her pale skin and dark hair, the softness of her curves, such a feminine contrast to Matthew’s hard shape. He was pleased that she wore her hair in a messy bun; her neck was too beautiful to be hidden under her soft locks. Under the warm light of the candles, he let his fingers glide from her neck and all along her spine. Her naked shoulders made the soft throbbing in his lower body increase and the white lace of her strapless bra caught his attention.
Matthew broke the kiss again, rested his forehead against Sofia’s and listened to her soft panting. When he ran his hands over her shoulders and down her back, he felt how warm her skin had become. He gave her a smile and thought to himself that this was only the beginning; she would burn under his touch before the night was over. Then he met his brother's eyes and gave him an almost imperceptible nod. With a firm grip on Sofia’s arm, he turned her around, and when she faced Richard, a gasp fell from her lips. He was watching her intently, like a panther would guard his prey. His black shirt was unbuttoned all the way down and hung from his shoulders in a nonchalant style, exposing his smooth skin and the dark hair that teasingly disappeared under the waistband of his trousers. She swallowed hard as he took a step closer and lifted his hand to catch her chin between his thumb and index finger. With his eyes on her lips, he ran his thumb over the slightly bruised skin, the contact leaving a pleasant sting in her lower lip. Then, finally, he covered her lips with his, and when she let out a pleased moan, he took it as an invite and let his tongue part her lips. Matthew reached for the clasp in her bra. When she wrapped her arms around Richard’s waist, it slipped between their bodies and silently joined her blouse on the floor.
Sofia pressed her body against Richard and let his scent surround her completely. He slid an arm around her and kissed her hungrily, pouring all of his needs down her throat. She felt the world sway under her feet as he grabbed her bun and forced her to tilt her head further back. Then he abandoned her mouth and kissed his way over her chin and down her neck. She moaned loudly as he let the tip of his tongue tease her sensitive skin, and it took all of his self-control to prevent himself from doing what his nature was screaming for. He intended to push her a lot further before he rewarded himself in that predatorial way, but it would be worth the wait.
Her aroused skin tasted like sweet nectar, and as Richard kissed his way over her chest, he could hear and feel her breathing change. When he reached the softness of her breast, he cupped it with his large hand and flicked his tongue eagerly over her nipple. She instantly reacted to his kiss, and he caught her responsive skin easily between his teeth, making her whimper. Matthew placed a kiss on her shoulder, and she leaned her head against his. Then his hands explored her body like it was the first time he touched her skin. She felt different in his hands, more alive but also more vulnerable. Richard slowly worked his way lower, over her stomach, but then suddenly straightened his back, grabbed her wrists and led her over to the large grey sofa.
He sat down on the edge, pulled off his open shirt, tossed it to the side and drew her in between his knees. Without a word, he started to release her from the black polyester fabric that prevented him from touching the skin of her thighs. In one motion, he slid his hand under the waistband and with a gesture disguised as a caress, he pushed them down along with the last piece of her underwear. She placed her hand on his arm for support as she stepped out of the pool of clothes at her feet. The hard muscles under her fingers made her marvel at his physique. With both of his hands on her lower back, he leaned forward to kiss her hip bone, his short beard scratching her skin gently. How she wanted him to place his lips on her most sensitive parts, she longed for him to taste her. Impatiently she parted her legs to let him know just how much she needed him, and he let his hands glide over her bum and down the thighs, leaving a trail of fire on her skin.
Matthew discarded his own shirt, along with his trousers, leaving only his black boxers on. Then he closed the distance and came up behind Sofia. Her skin felt hot against his now naked chest. When he wrapped his arms around her, she smiled and he bent down and kissed her cheek. Sofia placed her hands on his forearms as she hugged her tightly from behind. She gasped as his hardness pressed against her, and he loved how his name rolled on her tongue.
Richard was clearly aiming to drive her towards insanity, Sofia soon realized. Teasing her skin with rough kisses and having her shiver under his hands all while Matthew held her trapped in his embrace. When Richard finally slipped one of his long fingers between her folds, she was so ready that she cried out, and as he met her sensitive bundle of nerves with his tongue, her legs almost gave in. With all the power in his nature, he worked her body with an expertise she had never experienced before. Her body was on fire, and all she could focus on was him and the burning desire that consumed everything. Her thighs were trembling as he held her in a grip right at the edge of her release, but without giving her the last push she needed. Every time she thought she was going to reach her peak, he denied her what she needed the most, and she was soon ready to offer him her body in any way he wanted, just to have the liberating sensation of a climax. Without noticing it, she dug her nails into Matthew’s arms, and he almost felt sorry for her. He loved to feel her body tense with anticipation in his embrace, but he knew what a bastard his brother was. Richard could play this game very skillfully for a long time, and at some point, he would turn arousal to torture. He wanted his women begging for mercy, often in more ways than one. It turned him on. When the pleading moans eventually shifted and became desperate, sounding like she was close to breaking point, Matthew took a step back and pulled Sofia with him. Richard glared at him, his eyes black with desire. Matthew knew he had crossed the line, but he could not let Richard drive her too far. Sofia was breathing heavily and whined as Matthew spun her around.
”Are you ok?” he asked, holding her gaze firmly. She nodded, and he could feel her rubbing her thighs together in an attempt to ease the burning need in her body. Behind her, Richard rose from the sofa and grabbed her waist. Sofia let out a tortured sound at the feeling of his hands on her again. She needed him badly to give her release, and she would do anything he asked of her to have it. Little did she know how dangerous that could get.
”If you feel left out little brother,” Richard rasped, ”please, she is all yours. I bet you already know the sweetness of her taste.”
Sofia blushed at his words but the way Matthew looked at her made the heat in her body rush through her veins again. He leaned in and kissed her with such passion that she stumbled backwards and collided with Richard’s hard chest. Richard caught her wrists and pulled them behind her back, holding them firmly in place with one hand. With a final taste of her lips, Matthew slowly kneeled before Sofia. Richard leaned in close to her ear and hissed; ”look at him, he is the merciful brother.” Sofia let out a longing sound, and when Matthew took up where Richard left her, the sound turned to a pleased moan. Richard smiled against her skin; she was perfect. He had known it from the first second he smelled her in the alley. Now her scent and taste was all over him, in his mouth and on his skin. He placed his free hand over her throat. Her breath was already coming short, and he could not resist adding some pressure. She hummed sinfully and let her head fall back against him. Affectionately he stroked her skin where her pulse hammered under his fingers. Soon, he thought. She was ready.
”I can feel how much you need it,” he murmured darkly as he lowered his mouth to her neck. He craved her now, and her pulse was beating so loud it was almost impossible for him to hear her pleading. Slowly he licked her salty neck and was rewarded with a shiver. He looked down at his brother who was lost in the sensation between her legs and tightened his grip on her wrists as he felt her approaching climax. She struggled to get her hands free; the need to grab Matthew’s hair, to urge him closer was strong. But Richard was stronger and held her in place. ”Come for me,” he mumbled against her skin, and she closed her eyes when her body tensed and the liquid fuel in her veins ignited, followed by a thousand stars exploding behind her lids. Richard felt it, and with a low groan, he sank his fangs firmly into her skin. She cried out, but not only from relief, as her orgasm claimed her. The warm metallic taste filled him with more dark desires, and the soft sob erupting from her throat made him enjoy her even more. She was everything he had foreseen, and he was far from finished with her.
Richard released her wrists and as Matthew rose from his position, Sofia leaned back on Richard. She was not sure her legs could support her any longer, and she felt really dizzy. As though he could sense it Richard wrapped an arm around her and held her against him. She felt the large bulk under his trousers and realized that he wanted more. They both did, and she was theirs now.
”What did you do to me?” Her voice was weak as she caught Matthew’s gaze. ”That was…so intense.”
Matthew gave her a crooked smile but it died as he suddenly noticed the clear red drops on her neck. Richards' grip on her tightened when Matthew, filled with frustration, leaned in to take a better look at the small wound. The sweet smell of her blood found its way into his senses, and the urge he had suppressed for so many years suddenly stirred inside his chest. He fought it, thinking that he didn’t want it, that Sofia alone was what he needed. Richard, of course, felt his struggle and placed a hand on his shoulder.
”Brother,” his voice was deep but warm, the tone he had so often used when they both were a lot younger, ”you should kiss her.” He lowered his voice to a hoarse whisper. ”Taste her.”
Richard bent down and gently licked the skin from her shoulder all the way up to her ear and Sofia let out a soft moan. ”Please,” the words died in her throat, not really sure what she was asking for. All she knew was that she wanted more of this intense treatment. Richard repeated his move but this time he let his tongue linger over her wound. It was not a deep bite, just enough to break the skin and cause the life-giving red elixir in her veins to get within reach.
”Do it,” he said darkly and placed a hand on the side of her head, tilting it to the side and giving him even more access to her skin.
The primal need woke up from its slumber with a roar, and the smell in his nose was soon all Matthew could think of. He felt darkness calling him, and it rapidly became harder to ignore. ”Please,” she pleaded again, and her words were irresistible to him. She didn’t know what it did to him, and it was too late for reasonable thoughts now. Matthew closed his lips resolutely over her slowly dripping wound. The sensation hit him hard, and he felt almost drunk when he released her skin. He pulled Sofia from Richard, and she wrapped her arms around his neck as he captured her in his tight embrace. ”I want more,” she mumbled against him, and it made him want to bury his tongue inside her once again.
Behind her, Sofia heard Richard undo the zipper in his trousers. The sound of fabric being pulled down made her curious to see if that bulge was as large as it had seemed when she felt it against her bum. As though Matthew could read her mind, he cupped her face with his hands and hindered her from turning around. His lips met hers in a raw kiss that made her core clench expectantly. Still holding her face, Matthew took a step forward, forcing her to back against the sofa, where she assumed Richard now was waiting for her and then she felt his hands on her hips. He wasted no time and pulled her closer to him, and since Matthew still kissed her deeply, she had no choice but to climb backwards up in Richard’s lap. She gracefully straddled him, and his grip steered her right where he wanted her. The smooth skin on his thick member pressed against her slickness like a spear of flesh and muscles. Matthew let go of her face with a caress, but held her aroused gaze as Richard roughly dragged her down on him. Sofia gasped harshly at the feeling of him stretching her beyond what she thought was possible. Then he held her still, letting her adjust to his girth, and she looked over her shoulder and met his eyes. The dark heat in them made him look feral and dangerous, but the sight spoke to her in a passionate way. Slowly, she started to move, grinding on him and was rewarded with a low curse. While supporting herself on Richard’s knees, she gave in to the lust, closed her eyes and started to move faster in search of a new release.
Matthew watched her stimulating movements with desire, and without taking his eyes from her, he freed himself from his boxers. When she finally opened her eyes again, she shamelessly reached for his hard shaft. Matthew hissed as she took him in her small hand and gently stroked him over the leaking top. She shifted on Richard and leaned forward. The angle made her hug him tighter and they both moaned in unison at the new sensation. Sofia’s hot lips met Matthew’s sensitive skin, and he couldn’t resist burying his fingers in her now more than messy bun. As she welcomed him with her tongue, he grunted approvingly.
Richard trailed his finger upon her glistening back and down the soft skin of her bum. He repeated the caress teasingly and she arched her back. With a smirk he looked at Matthew, who was following his touches on her body. Then he grabbed her waist tightly, thrust up hard, and Sofia gave a muffled whine as he set a pace she almost had trouble following. Matthew tightened his grip on her hair and took advantage of her movements for his own pleasure. The sight of her hand and mouth on him, the feeling of her warm and generous mouth, along with the noises she let out as Richard slammed her repeatedly down over his heavy member eventually made him lose control over his own body, and he spilled himself along with a stream of curses.
Lust pumped in Richard’s veins, and when Sofia finally let go of his brother and once again voiced her need for relief, a cruel grin spread over his otherwise controlled face. This was exactly how he wanted her. He didn’t take the ultimate control of her body without her consent, in the form of her blood. Not this time. She offered it to him through trembling lips, as she was ready to fall apart, and the power she gave him freely made him feel invincible. He was well aware of how many times in the past he had enjoyed this part of an intimacy too much, forced to leave the scene, unable to come back. It had never bothered him, there were always other opportunities. But as he thrusted deep into Sofia, with the intention of torturing her further, another feeling slowly formed in his chest. He wanted to take more from her, but if he pushed her too far, she would never again give him something out of her free will. The blind desperation in her voice, along with the signs of overstimulation he could sense in her body, finally spoke to his more reasonable side and he took pity on her. With his fingers digging into the soft flesh of her hips, he pushed her over the edge, and she shattered around him. The intensity of her climax pulled him along with her, and a feral roar that created goose bumps on Sofia’s arms filled the room.
Panting heavily, she felt her head spinning, and she was unable to process the words Matthew tenderly spoke to her as he ran the back of his fingers over her cheek. He repeated them, but all she could take in was the serious frown on his face. Matthew caught her before she collapsed. As she came down from her high, her body started to shake, and he was not sure why. Maybe she was exhausted from their mutual playing with her, or maybe it was because of the mark Richard had put on her neck. No, he reminded himself, he was part of that as well. He had not stopped Richard. Instead, he had fallen for his darkest desires and joined his brother as he devoured Sofia. She looked fragile now, with her hair unruly and loose around her beautiful face and her lips bruised by their intense kissing. A sudden need to care for her unexpectedly filled him, and he pulled her up from Richard’s lap and swept her up in his arms. He carried her to his bedroom, where the soft scent of fresh linen surrounded them, and gently placed her on his bed. She sighed calmly when he wrapped his arm around her and pulled her to his chest. He was going to let her rest for as long as she needed. And he would protect her if necessary.
In the living room, Richard unhurriedly put his trousers back on, together with his black shirt. He had no interest in joining his brother and his…friend. Now that he had taken what he needed, he would leave them and slip into the night as he always had done in the past. This time was no different, he thought, as he walked past the bedroom only to see Sofia snuggled up against Matthew. In the dim light, they looked peaceful. Richard shrugged. His brother was weak. The cold air of the night surrounded Richard when he stepped out on the street. He pulled the collar on his coat up and put his hands in his pockets. As he walked the short distance to his own house, he didn’t meet a single soul. The good people living in this old part of the city slept at night, and that was one of the reasons he still lived here. Creatures passing by at late hours were always on their way to somewhere else. The fact that the dark alleys suited his interests made it feel like home.
Richard rarely had trouble sleeping, but something bothered him tonight, and after over an hour of endless tossing and turning, accompanied by his frustrated sighs, he got up. Naked, he walked over the cold floor to the window in his bedroom, pulled the dark heavy curtains to the side and looked up at the red moon. It was as beautiful as her and the memory of Sofia on the balcony came back to him. Her skin had looked extraordinary in the moonlight, and he had surprised himself with his self-control. It would have been easy to just take what he wanted right there but for some reason he had been patient. Richard covered his face with his hands and inhaled deeply. Her scent was still burning on his palms, and just like before, it was irresistible. He craved her. Again. But another feeling, uncharacteristic for him, also spread in his chest. He thought of Matthew, who had her in his bed and he wondered what it felt like, sleeping next to her. Feeling her warm and silky skin against his as she slept, listening to her soft breathing. Claiming her when he needed to. For the first time in a very long time, Richard felt truly lonely. He breathed in Sofia’s scent again and growled. He wanted to clear his head, and there was only one way to deal with this. He needed to hunt. Tonight.
When the moon turns red anything can happen.
Her hasty steps echoed in the dark and misty alley. The faint lights from the streetlamps cast their pale light over the wet pavement, creating a constantly growing shadow in front of her every time she passed one of the old but very well preserved lanterns. She had never been fond of the dark and Matthew’s apartment was located in the oldest part of the town where the houses stood aligned close together, like soldiers from a long-forgotten time, shoulder to shoulder blocking out any light. She was convinced the walls had souls of their own and that they had seen more than the human heart could ever stand. When she came to the long narrow stairs, a shortcut she learned the first and so far only time she had been to his place, she hesitated. Despite the alley being darker than she was comfortable with, she didn’t want to walk the much longer way around the large building. Most of the windows along the stairs were dark, the residences clearly empty. She took a deep breath and made a decision.
She got to the top of the stairs, unaware of the tall figure dressed in a dark coat who emerged from the shadows just a few meters behind her. The lantern on this particular wall was broken and the owner of the building found it convenient since the darkness completely hid his heavy front door. Unknowingly, she had rushed past it just seconds ago and the man drew in a deep breath and filled his lungs with the chilly evening air. The faint hint of her scent, hidden under a flowery perfume, was calling him. It made his heart beat faster; muscles tensed and he licked his lips expectantly. It was unusual to find someone who had such an instant effect on him and he was tempted to follow her and devour her in one of the many dark alleys of this district, but then he reminded himself that he had a dinner to attend. He fought his strong urge as he watched her disappear around the corner and sighed infrustration. Knowing this city’s every corner and shadows had its advantages and if he moved quickly he would succeed. But he also knew himself extremely well, he rarely did anything like that in a hurry. He loved the rush it gave him and he always made sure he had enough time. It applied to anything he wanted to do, so he shook his head to get rid of the thought of the soft skin of her neck and her pulsing blood underneath. Besides, his younger brother had asked him to come and meet his new lady friend and he had accepted. He was curious about this woman whose name alone made his brother smile. Was she more to him than a friend? Girlfriend maybe? The man in the coat lingered at the thought and frowned. That would have been a first, for sure.
With a pondering heart she rang the bell close to the small golden plate with Matthew’s name engraved in italic and then waited while a cold wind brushed her cheek. When a click was heard from the lock, she pulled the door open and the bright light from a naked bulb in the ceiling temporarily blinded her. His apartment was on the top floor but even if the building only had four floors it lacked the comfort of an elevator.
She didn’t even have time to knock before the door opened and Matthew flashed a bright smile at her.
”Sofia! It’s so good to see you!”
She smiled back at him and let the warm light coming from his home guide her inside. With a natural gesture he offered to take her jacket and after he carefully placed it on a hanger he turned to her with a soft light shining in his eyes. He pulled her close and gently cupped her face with both of his hands. The soft kiss he placed on her lips made her heart flutter. He was so gentle, so caring and she was amazed over how easy it was to spend time with him. From what she knew about him, he seemed to be the perfect gentleman. After tasting her lips he pulled back, caught her hands and held them against his chest. His dark hair was a bit unruly, like he had run his fingers through it too many times. Was he nervous as well? Maybe it was too soon to meet his brother after all, but when he had talked about Richard, she suggested it without even thinking. She wanted to know more about Matthew’s life and friends and she was always curious to meet new people. He approved of her idea only after she convinced him that it was just a simple dinner.
”Do you want some wine?” Matthew offered with a smile dancing in the corner of his mouth. Sofia nodded and gave him a warm smile in return. With her hand still in his, he led her to the large living room but the sight that greeted her made her stop in her tracks.
”I thought we agreed on an informal dinner,” she breathed as her eyes followed the white, perfectly ironed cloth and neat table setting. ”If I had known, I would have dressed up more.” The lights were dimmed and the dark wallpaper and heavy curtains made the room feel a bit enchanted. Shadows danced over the walls due to all the lit candles in the chandelier. Matthew smiled sheepishly and his gaze followed her body’s curves as respectfully as he could. ”You’re perfect just the way you are.”
Sofia thanked her lucky star for changing to black pants instead of her usual jeans. Together with the red blouse and her deliberately messy bun she didn’t feel the urgent need to go home and upgrade her look. She wanted to make a good impression on Richard and, embarrassed, she blushed at her own thoughts. Her and Matthew weren't exclusive in any way. No promises were made, no words of love spoken between them. Still, she secretly hoped for more and sensed that getting an approval from his older brother, a man that clearly meant a great deal to him, would be a step in the right direction. She could not put words to her feelings but she had felt from the very first time she heard of Richard that the sibling’s connection went to a much deeper level than any others she had met. Being an only child herself, this fascinated her greatly. A sharp knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.
”He is here,” Matthew simply said and left her standing in the middle of the room, alone with a growing feeling of excitement, pushing away the nervousness she had felt since she took the first steps on those dreadful stairs in the alley.
Knowing his brother’s temper, Matthew hurried to the door and opened it just as Richard raised his fist to give the wood another impatient knock. ”A few more seconds and I would have used my own key,” he muttered dryly.
”Don’t you dare,” Matthew replied. ”Besides, you didn’t wait that long. Come inside. I can’t wait for you to meet Sofia.”
Richard closed the door silently behind him. When he reached for a hanger his hand suddenly froze as his nose picked up the sweet smell of jasmine. He felt it clearly and instantly recognized it. It cut through the air like a sharp blade; the scent from the alley. Like he didn't trust his own eyes, he stared at the unfamiliar jacket for a few seconds, and the memory of the woman's back disappearing out of sight caused his heart to beat faster. With the adrenaline now pumping in his veins, he grabbed the sleeve and pulled it against his nose. Then he closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. A wave of predatory need welled up inside and he could not prevent the dark groan erupting from his throat.
”This is the second time this evening that I come across this smell.” Richard opened his eyes and met his brother's gaze with a cold expression. ”Is it hers?”
Matthew nodded and braced himself, for he knew all too well what his brother was doing and it made him feel sick. ”You can't have her,” he warned.
Richard stared at him and lowered his voice. ”We have shared women in the past, in more ways than one. Tell me brother, why is she different?”
A dark mumbling came from the hallway. Sofia could not hear the words uttered between the two men but she could distinguish their voices. Until this moment, she had thought that Matthew had an exceptionally dark and very pleasant voice, but Richard…his voice was even deeper. As their voices reached a normal conversation level and she could hear them approaching, she found it impossible to not wonder what else the family genes had graced him with. Only a few seconds later she had an answer to her own question. The man entering the room was gorgeous. He wore a black shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a pair of trousers, held in place by a belt with a brushed metal clasp. Slightly taller than his younger brother, Richard’s presence filled the room in a more demanding way and she could feel it instantly. His hair was shorter than Matthew’s and his dark stubble gave him a rougher look. With a confident smile he walked right up to her and she offered him her hand. He took it, but instead of shaking it, he slowly lifted her hand and lightly brushed the skin on the knuckles with his lips. Neither of them said anything. No introduction, no pleasantries, but something shifted in his eyes and it made her forget her manners. His eyes never left hers and Sofia felt a strange tingling on her skin when he released her hand.
Matthew observed his brother and closed the distance between himself and Sofia. He put his arm protectively around her shoulders and gave his brother a warning stare. When Richard wanted something, or rather someone, he could be incredibly charming and alluring with his intense personality, but Matthew also knew how ruthless his brother was. Richard was a hunter, and a very dangerous one. His dark desires were much stronger than Matthew’s and on the rare occasions when the woman he had marked as prey didn’t give in to his needs willingly, he still took what he wanted. But as Richard had told Matthew many times, a willing woman tastes better so make sure you have her aroused before you sink your fangs into her soft skin.
”It’s so nice to finally meet you,” Richard broke the silence.
”Likewise, I’ve heard a great deal about you.” Her voice betrayed her as well as her heart. It was beating faster now and Richard could hear it. She didn’t know of course that she gave every shift in her emotions away, and the satisfaction temporarily showed in his eyes. He had affected her with his gentle kiss and felt pleased. This was going to be an interesting night. Maybe even spectacular.
The perfectly chilled champagne tasted wonderful on her tongue and after half a glass Sofia finally felt the trace of Richard’s unexpected kiss on her hand fade away. It had been only a brief touch by his lips but she had shivered and the look in his eyes afterwards hid something she didn’t understand. Seated right in front of her, Richard easily captured her attention and the conversation between them felt natural. Matthew sat next to her and the tension she had sensed in his body when he first put his arm around her seemed to have disappeared. When the main course was almost finished and another wine bottle stood empty at the table, she felt his hand slowly running over her knee. It was a gentle and comforting caress and she turned to him and smiled. He really was sweet, she thought, probably wanting her to feel relaxed in the company of his brother. Warmth spread over her cheeks as he slowly let his hand glide over her thigh. It was a small sensual gesture but the fact that Richard caught her gaze and locked it with his made her breath hitch. Sofia couldn’t let go of the thought that he just maybe had seen what his brother did.
”Brother,” Richard turned to Matthew, ”how about that dessert?”
Matthew pulled his hand away and stood from the table with a slightly concerned expression. ”It will take a while, I trust you to behave and don’t embarrass Sofia with exaggerated stories about me.”
”I can’t promise that I won't,” Richard answered with a grin, but his brother didn’t miss the change in his eyes.
As soon as Matthew left the room, something in the atmosphere changed. Sofia could swear that the room became darker, like someone covered the lights with black veils. The expression on Richard's face seemed different as well. He truly was an interesting creature but she was failing to find words to continue the conversation. She looked at the large chandelier, majestically placed on the table. Was it suddenly warmer in the living room? Her head spun and she was not sure if it was only from the wine. She rose slowly from her chair.
”I think I need some air,” her voice sounded strange and when she walked over to the door leading to the small balcony she heard Richard’s chair scrape against the wooden floor. It was a little chilly outside but the wind had stilled, so she welcomed the cold embrace. Without thinking she placed her hands on the beautiful iron railing but the icy sting made her quickly withdraw them. She didn’t hear his steps behind her, but she felt his presence. And to her surprise she realized that she wanted him to be there. He rested his back against the railing, facing her.
”Look at the red moon,” she exclaimed. ”I’ve never seen anything like that.”
”It’s also known under another name…” Richard answered and watched her intensely. ”Blood Moon.”
The way he spoke the last words made her shiver, but not from the cold. He drew closer.
”Are you intimidated by me?” His deep voice made her heart increase its speed. She could not deny that she felt drawn to him, like his gravity was greater than the earth itself. With eyes darker than the night surrounding her, he towered over her. Still, she shook her head.
”Then why does your heart beat faster now?” His voice was only a hoarse whisper. She swallowed hard when his long fingers closed around her wrist and he could feel her racing pulse. Slowly he brought her hand to his face and with a growing tension between them, he pressed his nose gently against the thin skin on the inside of her wrist. Then he took a deep breath and her scent awoke the primal need in him. He craved her.
”It’s ready!” Matthew’s voice sounded from inside.
None of them answered him but the moment was lost and Richard cursed his brother's timing. Fighting the urge to lick the delicate skin on her wrist, Richard placed a kiss right over the large vein that thrummed under his touch. A shaky sigh left her and in that moment he knew he had her. The dark nature of his character allowed him to smell it, her needs seeped from her like sweet drops of elixir, ready for him to devour. He couldn’t wait for an opportunity to feel her soft skin again, but next time he would be tasting a different part of her body. And she would beg him to. It was just a matter of time.
Jack experiencing the occasionally lovely but mostly mortifying experience of introducing his mate to his uh, interesting, extended family.
(Who meets them first? Was it on purpose or by coincidence? One of the terror trio crashing Jacks date Who’s most welcoming, and why is it Diana? Who plays the intimidating over-protector, and is it sincere or just to torture Jack for fun?)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jack was having a great time at university, improved by his girlfriend Sabina. She too was an Art History student who loved sketching and drawing. He had sketched her for weeks in lectures and seminars until she walked up to him and asked if she could see them.
"I had fun tonight," Sabina said with a smile, as their joined hands swung, "I cannot believe you had never been to a planetarium."
"Well, I hope we can go all the time." Jack replied, pressing a kiss to her hand. When he had told her of the sheltered years he had lived, she made it her mission to brighten him up.
"Deal. Can I stay at yours tonight?" Sabina asked. He had a flat off-campus for obvious reasons and he liked having her over, despite the fact he didn't sleep. She kept him out of his own head.
"I would like that," Jack said, then remembered something, "I don't have any food in."
"Can we go to the supermarket?" Sabina asked and Jack looked confused. She grinned, "Come, it will be fun!"
There was something peaceful about Tesco at night. He had never been, not until he found his girlfriend enjoyed it.
"You can eat nuts, right?" Sabina asked, showing him a big bag of peanuts. She was always so considerate of his diet and needs. Even the part where he needed blood.
"We're supposed to be getting food for you." Jack would pay, even when she insisted.
"Jack?" They turned to the person calling his name. It was Marcus, who had obviously come from a shift at the hospital. Jack could smell it and tensed up.
"This is Marcus. My older brother." Jack introduced nervously.
"Who is this lovely young lady?" Marcus asked, his charming grin on his face. Sabina smiled shyly at him.
"Sabina. My, um, girlfriend." Jack introduced and Marcus looked impressed.
"What are you doing here?" Jack asked.
"Phoebe - or the baby as she would say - wanted ice cream. I indulge her every whim." Marcus said, holding up a tub before placing it in the basket. Sabina looked confused. She knew his entire family were vampires.
"Donor. They wanted to have a baby before Phoebe was turned." Jack explained, "How is she? Sorry, I didn't come to dinner last week. Sabina was sick."
"I kept you from family dinner?" Sabina asked, worried. She didn't want to keep him from his family, especially knowing how much it meant to him.
"It is fine. Next time, bring your girlfriend." Marcus waved off with a smirk before walking away, "Goodnight lovebirds. Don't do anything I would."
.....
Resting under the shade of an oak tree, reading with Sabina in his arms was the perfect Saturday. It's a shame Jack was in a family of people who took pleasure in ruining other people's days.
"Jack!"
Jack's face fell as he heard the voice of Miyako de Clermont. Why on earth was she here? Sabina looked up from where she was resting in between his legs, confused at his deep sigh.
"What's wrong?" She asked. He shook his head, before kissing her cheek.
"Miyako." The woman in question appeared and smiled down at the couple.
"Hello, cousin." She smirked, "My, my. Marcus wasn't pulling a prank."
"My cousin, Miyako." Jack introduced, "This is Sabina."
"Jack!" A rough Scottish voice said from the other side, effectively trapping the couple. Gallowglass appeared, friendlier than his younger cousin.
"My other cousin, Gallowglass." It was getting harder and harder to keep the smile on his face as his girlfriend tried very hard not to laugh.
"And who is this fine little lass?" Gallowglass asked. But they knew exactly who she was. Marcus sent a text and they flew to London.
"I'm Sabina." Gallowglass kissed her hand teasingly. It was a testament to Fernando and Matthew's training that Jack didn't try to tear his head off.
"So," Miyako took the young girl by the arm, "Has Jackie here told you about us?"
"Please don't call me that-"
"A little. Though I suppose all of you are immortal, there is a lot more to tell," Sabina said.
"Good diplomatic answer." Gallowglass praised, "She'll do well against the elders."
"She isn't meeting uncle Baldwin yet." Jack insisted.
"He's right. Poor thing will be terrified." Miyako agreed, "But I told uncle Matthew, so expect a panicked phone call. Eric, I want to shop. Ciao!" She turned on her heels and walked away.
"It was more of a taunting, so expect a panicked email as well." Gallowglass added and nodded, "See you two!"
Sabina looked up at her boyfriend, "I can't tell if your cousins like you or not."
"It's a strange mixture of both. It's the only way we show affection," Jack replied.
.....
A few weeks later, Jack took Sabina home to meet his parents.
"Jack! Jack! Jack!" The twins chanted and pulled on his free arm, "Jack can we draw? We want to draw!"
"Who is this? She's pretty." Rebecca clung to the surprised young woman who hugged her back, cooing at how cute she was.
"Later." Diana gently pried them away, "Bed, babies, bed."
Sabina smiled, "It's really nice to meet you. Jack always talks about you guys."
"Well, I can see why he's kept you to himself. I understand you have had a few run-ins with other members of this family." Diana smirked.
"I like them!" Sabina said, surprising Matthew, "They all seem to care about Jack. Also, I'm a younger sibling. I understand the protectiveness."
Diana was warm and welcoming, interested in how they were both doing separately and as a couple.
On the other hand, Matthew had a more evaluative expression on his face, as if figuring out what she wanted with his son. Human, knew of Jack's blood rage and loved him anyway. He was intrigued.
"She is so sweet!" Diana squealed as soon as Sabina left the room to use the bathroom and she hugged Jack tightly, "I'm so happy for you."
"Thanks, mum," Jack replied, happy that Diana liked her.
They looked at Matthew, who eventually smiled reluctantly, "She's lovely. Well done."
"Now, was that so difficult? She's nicer than your other daughter in law to you." Diana teased her husband who fondly rolled his
"I am so sorry about..." They both laughed and she wrapped her arms around his waist, leaning up to kiss him.
"What was that for?"
"You are cute. And your family is hilarious, if not strange. I like them," Sabina replied, "Besides, I have been putting you off meeting my mother and sister. They will not care that you are a vampire."
"I think I might prefer that," Jack replied.
When the moon turns red anything can happen.
While the sun slowly painted the sky in bright colors, Richard stood by the window in his living room and looked out over the old buildings below him. Some of them had newly replaced copper roofs, and when they reflected the morning light, they looked like they were on fire. His empty crystal glass rested on the small side table next to the window and the last drops of wine had dried at the bottom. The restlessness in his body made his mood sour and every time his thoughts wandered to the brown-haired woman with the pale skin and alluring mouth, he sighed deeply. He murmured her name and the feeling of her name on his tongue made him clench his fists. What had she done to him? He, who had seen wars and death. The birth, rise and fall of great kings and queens. He had never let himself be affected by a woman, not to mention a human. He had shared lusty moments, followed by feral hunger and he had enjoyed more women in their beds than he could remember, but none of them had occupied his mind after he left them. That counted for both the ones willingly giving him what he desired, as well as the less fortunate he had to physically overpower after they discovered what kind of taste he favored. Sofia had not yet seen all he was capable of. Matthew had stopped Richard’s diabolic tourture of her just as she was about to reach true desperation for him, and he was sure Matthew acted out of jealousy. He growled. This had never been a problem between them in the past.
As the sun climbed higher over the horizon, Richard finally came to a conclusion: if he wanted to see Sofia again, it was best to do it alone. His protective brother would most likely not accept another evening like the previous one, and Richard could no longer ignore the possessive emotion in his chest; he wanted Sofia only for himself. All her feelings, pleasures and the lovely noises she made, they would all belong to him. His name was the only name that should fall from her lips. During the dinner at Matthew’s he had gathered enough information about her to be able to find her, and when he saved her number on his phone, he thanked modern technology. Locating someone today was easy, not like when he was a lot younger and tracking could take days if he needed to cover a great distance. A grin spread on his face. Humans had no idea how comfortable their lives had become, or how vulnerable it left them at the same time.
Sofia woke from a deep sleep, with Matthew’s arm draped around her waist. The room was covered in darkness, but a ray of light seeped from the door and illumined the bed, as if it was a holy grail. Heavy curtains blocked the sun and effectively hindered the city’s sounds from entering the room. She tried to move as carefully as she could, but as soon her muscles tensed, he opened his eyes. For a second, something dark fell over him and she gasped at his black eyes. But then, as he relaxed, so did she. Maybe he just woke from a bad dream.
Little did she know that Matthew had been awake for hours, watching her sleep, staring at the mark on her neck that thankfully looked more like a dark bruise than a bite mark. Richard had been gentle, that was not always the case. When Matthew first woke up, he felt different; like his senses had been sharpened and he felt more alive. Then he remembered why. He had done something he promised himself he would never do to Sofia, but the temptation had become too big, when the opportunity was offered to him, by his own brother. He remembered the smell, the taste, the rush and it took a long time for him to accept the effect it had on him. But as he watched Sofia sleep next to him, the need to belong with her grew stronger. He needed someone in his bed every night, someone to hold and cherish. This was something he had wanted for a long time, but due to his nature, could not have with a mortal. However, Sofia felt different, she sparked something in him. Trust and happiness. She was the light. Matthew thought of his brother. Richard always went on with his life, never stopped or felt anything except his primal needs. The hunter in him was too restless and ruthless for any real attachments. Would he understand the strange warm feeling that filled Matthew as he laid his eyes on Sofia’s sleeping body? Affection was something they never talked about, and Matthew was unsure how to open up to him.
”Good morning,” she mumbled sleepily.
Matthew mirrored her words and pulled her close to him. Feeling her soft skin under his hands woke his burning need for her, but he was determined to let her take the first initiative. He kissed her softly on her forehead and she let out a small pleased sigh. Her small hands came to rest on his chest and they sent a tingle over his skin. This was what he needed. Intimacy.
”What happened yesterday? Did I faint?” Her voice was weak, but he sensed an urgent need in her, to understand the ending of their night. He hesitated, unsure of what to say, but the memories of her shocked body, violently shaking in his arms as he could still taste blood on his tongue, was not what he wanted to remind her about. ”I think you were just exhausted,” he tried, ”things got a bit…intense.” He gave her hair a tender kiss and its softness against his lips made him smile. ”I put you to bed, you needed rest.”
”Richard,” she barely whispered his brother’s name, but Matthew heard it loud as thunder, ”is he here?”
”No, he left after I carried you in here.” Matthew made an attempt to hide the dislike in his voice. He didn’t want her to think of Richard. Not now, when she had her hand splayed out on his chest.
”You carried me?”
”Yes.”
Sofia went silent. In her mind she tried to map the events from the evening before. Most of it was easy to remember but she struggled with what happened in the shadows of her consciousness. She felt like she had been really drunk, even if she never was, and deeply affected by the all-consuming lust. She knew that she never had received that kind of strong treatment before and Richard had done something to her neck. Her skin bore the memory of his lips and even now, not yet fully awake, Sofia could feel the soreness. He had easily found her neck's most sensitive part and assaulted it in the most heavenly way and her climax had risen high above all other experiences. The memory alone made her shiver.
Matthew’s embrace felt so right; his skin was soft against her fingertips, his body warm under their shared duvet and it calmed her sore body. The way he tenderly kissed her on the forehead made her heart flutter. A hint of his cologne could still be traced on his skin and she liked the sporty scent on him. Matthew was sweet, charming and cared for her needs and as her tired brain slowly made its way to normal functionality, she wondered why she couldn't ignore the raspy, seductive whisper coming from the back of her brain, reminding her about the strong hands that firmly held her in place yesterday.
Richard looked at the display on his phone. The text he just sent was short but polite. He just wanted to thank Sofia for the good company yesterday and make sure that she was alright. It was well after lunchtime and he knew his brother's habits. Sofia would be far from the apartment now, and Matthew on his way to his beloved tennis court. The reply came faster than he expected and it was equally polite. But something in her words sounded shyly inviting and he decided to send her another text. This time a little more daring.
I enjoyed our time together very much. I’d like to see you again sometime.
When she didn’t instantly reply he added another message:
Just for dinner without expectations.
There was a long pause and he was just about to start questioning if he pushed too far, too soon, when the screen flashed with her name. She was unsure of his intentions, he could read it between the lines.
I’ll behave, I promise. He added a playful smiley, something he usually never did, but thought it might make her lower her guard. Another pause followed, this time longer, but then finally she accepted.
Richard put his phone on the nightstand and sank down on his bed. Maybe his body would allow him some rest, now that he knew he could see her again. He closed his eyes and instantly Sofia’s naked body appeared before him. He groaned at the sight, remembering every inch of her silky skin and the alluring taste of her feminine lust. Her hair danced in the wind, her beautiful eyes sparkled with happiness and she smiled as she walked in front of him, urging him to come closer. He reached for her but she slipped from his grip and it made him clench his fist. How dared she tease him like this, not even his own fantasy could he control anymore. With a frustrated sigh he opened his eyes. The ceiling stared back at him when he cursed loudly. Why could he not control her? This was not like him, he could not recognize his own reactions. For the first time ever he questioned his own abilities. He grabbed his phone again. A short text, just a time and a place. He had no patience left and was not in the mood to play nice. The silent phone tested his patience to its limit and he was almost ready to put on his coat and walk all the way over to her apartment. When she finally replied, a dark grin spread over his face. He would finally get what he needed. Tonight.
Sofia’s heart was hammering hard in her chest and mixed emotions fought for her attention; curiosity, excitement, doubt and guilt. She felt dizzy. Richard’s first text came as a total surprise but she would be lying if she told herself that it was not welcome. The raw attraction she felt last evening was not lost during the night and just the thought of him now made her feel like she was walking on fire. This morning, when she woke up in Matthew’s bed, she was sure that Matthew was what she needed. Now, as the memories of Richard’s ferocious passion came crashing down on her, she was no longer sure. But Richard had assured her that it was only dinner and the honest impression of him, from their previous meeting, made her accept his invitation. She looked forward to it.
As Sofia approached the fine dining restaurant Richard had suggested, her stomach felt like a tight knot. Anxious not to be late, she arrived ten minutes before said time, and decided to go inside instead of waiting alone in the dark. The restaurant had a modern industrial design but with that personal touch which made it feel more elegant. Dark gray carpet tiles covered the floor, and together with the no doubt expensive ceiling, it reduced the disturbing sounds in the restaurant to a minimum. Small groups of people, and a few couples, shared meals and had quiet conversations. Sometimes the contagious laughter from some of the guests bubbled softly through the well air-conditioned room. Sofia was escorted to their reserved table by a sharp dressed waiter but rejected his offer for a drink while she waited. She felt nervous and was afraid the alcohol would go straight to her head even before Richard got there. The seconds seemed endless and she checked her phone twice before she suddenly felt his eyes on her. Richard didn’t wait at the door, he walked right in and with just one look at the poor waiter, who was trying to get his attention, he stopped the man from escorting him further. Just like the evening before he was dressed in black. The suit was different, more slim fit, and if possible, it made him look even more attractive than the previous night. The way his eyes shifted in color as he locked his gaze with hers made her heart race.
”Sofia,” he purred as he bent down to gently touch her arm as he gave her a brief kiss on her cheek.
”Good evening, Richard,” she managed to answer with a faint smile. His long fingers trailed her forearm just for a second but it was enough to wake her sleeping skin. Sofia swallowed hard and stared at his hand as he sat down opposite of her. She was in deep trouble.
Out of nowhere the waiter approached them again, this time with menus in his hand. A short welcome speech followed, and despite Richard’s piercing stare, he offered them his meal recommendations. When they were finally alone again, Richard smiled warmly at Sofia. ”I’m very glad you wanted to dine with me again so soon.” His smile reached his eyes in a way that made him look gorgeous and carefree, and Sofia thought he was like the sun and the moon combined; entertaining, clever and easy to talk to, but he also had a darker side that he seemed to slide into as soon as her gaze lingered on him too long. And that made her tremble with anticipation.
Richard watched Sofia intensely as she was reading the long list of fine wines. She let her hair spill over her shoulders and her soft locks framed her face beautifully. Her tight black turtleneck dress graced her body and left her arms bare. The small frown on her face, together with the absent biting on her lower lip as she read made him want to skip the main course and head directly for dessert. But he waited patiently. He knew what she needed and it pleased him enormously. Just like yesterday, he could smell it, even from across the table. She still wanted him.
When their large plates were placed before them, Sofia gave a delighted sigh. This was not just food, this was small pieces of art, delicately selected and prepared by a skilled chef. The captivating sound that fell from her lips caught Richard’s attention and he stared longingly at her mouth. He knew exactly what he wanted to do to that mouth, but again he fought his urge and moved his gaze to meet hers. ”It looks amazing,” he then murmured.
It turned out to be a tremendous explosion of flavors and the premium selection of wine added another dimension to the experience and helped the conversation between them deepen. As they slowly indulged in the cuisine, she opened up to him, talked about her joys and fears and without really understanding how she got there, she found herself revealing her mixed feelings about the night before. It was soon clear to Richard that she didn’t want to hurt his brother, but he sensed her irresolution. Her eyes gleamed in the warm candle light and Richard, driven by pure needs, found Sofia even more irresistible than before. The empty plates discreetly disappeared by the hands of a young man with a nervous look on his face, and the cleared table let Richard reach over it and capture her hand in his. He squeezed it gently and could feel her falter.
Sofia tried not to squirm in her seat as Richard placed his large hand over hers. There were no doubts in his eyes, only resolve. The unspoken question hung in the air, waiting for one of them to grab it and to her surprise, she was the first to break the silence. Her voice sounded not really like her own and it trembled slightly. ”Do you want something more?”
”I do,” he murmured huskily and let his gaze shamelessly follow the curves of her upper body. ”The question is, what do you want?”
Heat bloomed on her chest, making her dress feel too warm against her skin. The way Richard was watching her left no question open to what he was asking her. She briefly pictured him naked as she had seen him the night before and the memory made her moan involuntarily. Resistance was useless, her body had already made the decision for her. She took a deep breath and whispered, ”You.”
Richard stopped his triumphant grin from ruining the moment and focused on the satisfaction he felt. He couldn’t wait to touch her and smell the sweetness of her arousal once again. A signal to the waiter, a silent card transaction and a few exchanged pleasantries later, they stepped out on the lively street. The night held the city in a misty embrace and when Sofia pulled her scarf tighter around her neck, Richard offered her his arm. He was usually not much for that type of openly showed affection, but Sofia was different, he thought, as she slipped her hand under his arm. When she suggested a walk to her apartment, he gladly accepted it. The risk of running into Matthew was considerably smaller in her district.
The walk was shorter than Richard expected, but long enough to make Sofia shiver in her coat. He could feel how she tensed her shoulders as she walked but he hesitated before he wrapped his arm around her shoulders. It felt strangely right, holding her like that, and they probably looked like a regular couple, taking a late evening walk. The contours of other people disappeared in the thick mist, making the world narrow down to only them and Richard enjoyed every minute of it. When they reached a long, yellow, two-floor building, Sofia slowed down. Her hand searched her bag for her keys and before they stood outside the door, she had them ready. Richard could see that she trembled as she put the key in the hole and turned it.
”Welcome to my home,” she greeted him with a small smile dancing over her lips. The sweet scent of jasmine, alluring and unmistakable hers, filled her apartment and if he had been weaker, it would have knocked him out. It was not a strong scent, but very present, and he felt the effect it had on him in every fiber of his body. As she took off her coat and hung it on the hanger, he took in the sight of her. The beautiful turtleneck dress had long slits that he completely missed when she sat down at the restaurant. Now however, it let him admire her skin from her slim ankle all the way up to her thigh. His coat joined hers and he left the jacket on a hanger as well. He had no intention of staying dressed for long. His voracious hunger for her needed to be stilled.
”You are so beautiful,” he murmured impatiently as he closed the distance between them. She didn’t back away and in her eyes he could read some of the longing she tried to hide from him. ”I can’t stay away from you.”
She didn’t get a chance to reply before he buried his hand in her hair and pressed his lips against hers. Sofia threw her arms around him with an eagerness that made him groan with satisfaction. Their tongues met in a kiss far more feverish than the ones shared the previous evening and when she gasped for air, he moved his hands to her thighs and pulled the dress up just enough so she could wrap her legs around him as he lifted her effortlessly. He could feel her warmth through the fabric as he carried her to her bed.
Sofia’s bedroom was feminine, decorated in white and beige colors, with an enormous fluffy carpet, thin white curtains, and a large bed with an impressive variation of soft pillows. Richard laid her down and instantly followed her, placing his hands on both sides of her body and hovering over her like she really was his prey. Then he kissed her roughly, eager to taste her. All of her. Sofia caressed his bearded chin and the gentle touch made him stop in his passionate exploration of her mouth. He wanted her badly, but he also wanted to savor the moment with her. Deep in his chest, he felt his dark desire growing and he crashed his lips against hers once more and pinned her body down. His craving for her thundered through his consciousness and he briefly questioned if he was losing control too soon. But she met him with equal fire and the thought was lost somewhere between the sensation of her tongue against his, and her hands that pulled his shirt from his trousers and then caressed his lower back. He moaned at the contact, slipped a hand between their bodies and greedily started to pull her dress up over her thighs. The dress, now his nemesis, hindered him from touching her naked skin and he sat up in frustration. He would have prefered to just rip it apart, but choose not to act on that impulse. Instead, he pulled the dress all the way up, revealing her shivering, heated body, and with a little help from Sofia, he pulled it over her head. Her hair fell like a dark, smooth fan around her, leaving the skin on her neck exposed and the sight made his lower body throb. Life-giving elixir, singing in the veins under thin naked skin was his greatest weakness. As if she could read his thoughts, she tilted her head just slightly to the side, offering him an even better view. The mark on her pale skin stared back at him and it filled him with perverted excitement. Never before had he seen the mark he left on a woman presented to him like this. Unable to stop himself, he traced the mark’s contours with his thumb, letting the hand rest on her warm skin surrounding his mark. He had marked her. She was his. Not his brother’s.
The intensity of Richard’s gaze made Sofia blush, but the sudden attention to her sore neck made her flinch.
”Does it hurt?” his voice held a strange combination of concern and greed.
”A little, but it looks worse than it feels.”
Sofia tried to calm her racing heart, but failed as his eyes clouded over like a stormy sky and a sly smile formed in the corner of his mouth. Her voice trembled as she whispered his name while he gently placed his lips over the mark and the contact made Richard groan with held back needs. He ran his fingers over the flushed skin on her chest. She was still too dressed for his taste and even if he appreciated the sight of thin lace on her body, his desire to see and taste every inch of her was stronger. Her front closure bra fell open after a swift move by his hand and left her breasts exposed. She gasped as he eagerly proceeded to pull her last piece of garment down her thighs. Then he watched her, captivated, like it was the first time he saw her naked. His arousal made his body moist and his shirt stuck to his body like a second skin. With a determined expression on his face, he started to undress himself, longing for the feeling of her skin against his.
Richard kissed his way over the softness of her skin, ran his hands along her sides and let her scent guide him to her most sensitive parts. The way her body answered to his every touch was rewarding and his fingers left red marks on her inner thighs as he forced them to stay open and still. Her sweet taste was soaking his beard and she grinded desperately against his hand when he let his fingers slip between her wet folds. How he enjoyed the tormented pleadings that fell from her lips. Now, when Matthew was not there, Richard could push her as far as he wanted. The power of this knowledge made him grin against her skin, all while his own body ached for hers. He loved this game, but even he could not ignore the throbbing in his lower body forever.
Sofia pulled at the sheets, unable to control her shaking body as Richard once again held her frustratingly close to her climax, but again denied her. She was desperate. Never before had she been with a man with his kind of self-control. His skilled tongue and fingers were all that existed and she cried out his name over and over, all while he purposely scratched her skin with his beard. Was he even real?
Richard gave Sofia’s over-sensitive flesh a final kiss and sat up on his knees. Then he effortlessly turned her over, pushed one of her knees to the side and then firmly held her down as he, like the beast he hid inside, crawled over her and captured her under his body. His hardness was almost painful, he was leaking now and she looked divine, shimmering in the soft light, needy and beyond ready for him. But so was he for her as well. Sofia arched her back under him when he trailed her neck with his tongue and a pleading whisper fell from her lips, urging him to be merciful. A cruel grin spread over his face as he listened to her irregular breathing. She was truly his now, she would let him do anything he wanted.
With the intention to drive her mad with lust, Richard lingered at her entrance, denying her what she was pleading for and relished in the sweat soaking her body. This was her punishment for keeping him awake all night, for appearing in his mind whenever he closed his eyes and for the ruined satisfaction after his last hunt. He tilted his hips just slightly and let the top of him push through her folds, in an agonizing slow movement. It took a great deal of self-control and he knew it was just a matter of time before he needed to bury himself in her wetness. Otherwise he would end up losing his own mind. He could hear her holding her breath, like she braced herself for more, and it made her heartbeat appear louder. Her blood rushed through her veins, carrying all her needs with it. Restlessness stirred in his chest at the sound, summoned by his dark nature. He needed her now, in every meaning of the word. Without warning he slammed his hips against her, pulling a cry from her throat that vibrated in his ears. His name sounded so right, coming from her like this and it ignited the possessive feelings in his chest. She clenched around him and he could feel her body’s desperate attempt to adjust to his girth. Settled deep inside her, he captured her wrists, allowing himself to take full control of her. His much larger body pinned her to the mattress and when he started to move, she whimpered.
Without any ability to move or meet his thrusts, Sofia was left at Richard’s mercy. She had never before felt so vulnerable, but at the same time so desired, and the sensation made her burn even more for him. His strong hands on her wrists and his warm breath against her neck, together with the heavenly movements of his hips made her over-sensitive body tremble. If only he would let her come, she was not sure how much more she could take without losing all kind of connection with reality. He was skillfully controlling her, like she was a delicate marionette hanging helplessly on his strings. And she could feel every inch of him, the soreness of her skin forgotten, as he gently kissed her neck. The combination of tender kisses and rough treatment set her skin on fire, brought her to the edge of sanity and she moaned loudly all her pleadings for release.
The salty taste of her skin woke Richar’s primal need with a roar. A deafening sound, impossible to ignore, thundered in his ears. He tasted her skin again, licked her longingly and then thrusted deeply. He was balancing on the verge of his own climax now, but he wanted her to follow him. Needed her to. She was close, he could hear it in her short breathing, smell it on her skin and feel her tighten fiercely around him. He put his lips over the large vein running on the side of her neck, and waited. Her heartbeat sounded like a beating drum, her blood sang seductively under her skin and he wanted nothing more than to release her pleasure. The familiar sting in his mouth as his fangs grew made him close his eyes. Patience. Then, after a few more thrusts, she shattered under him and the way her orgasm ripped her voice apart made Richard break her skin with a low groan. He came violently. She tasted even better than he remembered and as the second wave of rush shook his body, he could no longer stop himself, nor did he want to stop. His fangs dug deeper into her flesh when the darkest of his desires rose to its full power and drowned his reasonable side in the ocean of desire. The fulfillment he had longed for made him ignore the changes in her cry.
He collapsed over her, heavily panting, satisfied and full. His body was finally calm and when his heartbeat slowed down, an unfamiliar, but very pleasant, warm feeling replaced the restlessness in his body. Richard kissed Sofia on the back of her head, and when she didn’t acknowledge him, he nuzzled her silky hair. For him, it was a true sign of affection, something he never descended to, but with Sofia it just felt so right. She truly was different.
Suddenly, a cold wind swept through the room and cleared his drunken mind. The bedroom was still bathed in the warm light coming from the lamp on Sofia’s nightstand, but something felt terribly wrong and the feeling spread rapidly in his chest. Soon he could sense it in every part of his body and it took him only a short moment to locate the difference in his surroundings; she smelled different and her heart was no longer calling him. The silence grew heavy as Richard stared down at Sofia’s unmoving body.
Take me back to the night we met.
The snow crunched under the shoes of the tall, dark figure silently moving in the shadows along the fence. Robust and old, with flaking black paint on its iron bars, the fence guarded the unfortunate inhabitants during their last sleep. The man in the shadows seemed to hesitate, but then stepped out in the moonlight and walked briskly towards a newly arranged grave. Nature had spread its white quilt over the mountain of flowers and they would rest there peacefully until the warming sun once again graced the sky.
Richard gently brushed away the snow, revealing the beautiful golden inscription of her name and then bent down, slowly and reverently, and pressed his lips against the cold granite stone. The moon was pale, just as Sofia's face had been after he recklessly put out the flickering flame in her eyes, and life slipped from her on that dreadful night. From that moment on, Richard’s thoughts stayed dark and lonely, like the endless night surrounding him and he was painfully aware of how cold and hard his heart had grown, just like the tombstone under his fingertips. He no longer had any hope for joy or satisfaction. Nobody but her could ease his mind or calm his body, and she was no longer within reach. He had tried to find relief, of course he had tried, but every time he made bitter attempts to hunt, her naked, cold and drained body haunted him. Sofia had given herself to him so willingly, and he had greedily accepted. And then, too absorbed by his own actions and without even noticing, he had taken everything from her. He let the beast that was his true nature seal her fate and, to make things even worse, he had ruined the bond he had with his only brother. Matthew would never speak to him again, he made that very clear.
Richard closed his eyes and for once Sofia appeared before him with life glittering in her expressive eyes. Afraid to lose the vivid image of her, Richard held his breath. Her eyes burned as she seductively came closer. As usual he reached for her and when her fingers intertwined with his, she smiled. His heart raced and the lack of oxygen made his head spin. She was not real, he knew that, but he didn’t want to let her go. Not yet. At last his burning lungs forced him to breathe and she was instantly gone in a cloud of dust. Richard opened his eyes and the void in his chest was indescribable. The night closed in on him. Not a sound could be heard on the abandoned cemetery, except for his whisper, breaking in the wind:
Take me back to the night we met.
Favourite ADOW/All Souls Fics
Empire of Dirt by @adowbaldwin (Angst, fluff , smut)
A really great AU of the life of Baldwin de Clermont. This is just so good to read, seeing his relationship with Philippe, his brothers, Eva. So many emotions ran me when I was reading this. It's just brilliant.
at a distance by @thefudge (Angst, fluff, smut)
Never seen a Miriam/Matthew fic but this one-shot makes me want to see more. So much depth is given to Miriam in this and adds a spin to her and Matthew's relationship, which would be interesting considering his friendship with her husband. I just love fics where women of colour are given more depth than in canon.
Again and Again, I'd Spend Them With You by @katrie-reads (Fluff, Angst, Smut)
The Time Traveller's Wife meets ADOW = this amazing fic, which will make you smile and cry. All the characters are developed which I love and Diana is just an awesome time-travelling witch, shagging her vampire boyfriend through the ages and I love that for her!
Old Enough to Know Better by @butternuggets-blog (Fluff, Angst)
A fun All Souls fic. Baldwin gets cursed by an old witch and a lot of de Clermont family fluff, which is always fun to read.
Gladly be A Fool by @forasecondtherewedwon (smut, fluff)
One of the few Marcus and Phoebe fics on Ao3, really well written and cute! These two are my faves, so I could literally read anything with these two featured.
@legolasbadass & @lathalea Thanks again for all your feedback and constant support. ❤️❤️
When the moon turns red anything can happen.
The distant sound of a bell echoed in the dark. Three vibrating tolls revealed the late hour. The sound traveled through the night and the silent stone wall, illumined by a lonely street lamp, was the only witness to the dark silhouette moving in its shadow. With the collar of his dark coat pulled tightly around his neck, Richard’s tall figure covered distance quickly, and he set his target on one of the few areas where he still could find a suitable prey. The lively streets in the city center.
Richard was impatient, the skin under his black shirt itched painfully, and his sharp mind was restless. Every scent passed through his senses and he mapped them without even noticing as he followed the familiar route. The salty scent of the sea as he crossed the high bridge near the harbor entrance, the sweat and anxiety around the central station, and the damp smell of wet soil as he passed the cemetery. Hunting was thrilling and his needs grew stronger with every step, but he was well aware of the risks that followed his dark activity. His hunger was always present, seeping through his veins - easily triggered. Smell, together with taste, was his most developed sense, allowing him to follow every shift in a woman's state without her knowledge. It gave him an advantage and he often knew before his victim that she would give in to him. During the ocean of years he had lived, the art of seducing a woman had changed with time, but Richard liked the modern taste; women allowed themselves to enjoy a lust-filled night with open minds.
He looked at his watch as he crossed the park opposite the grand avenue where the most popular bars in town made the pavement sparkle from their colorful lights. Most of them would still be open for a while, but that didn’t necessarily mean that he needed to wait long. Hunting was a matter of timing, because one didn’t want to be seen, but Richard knew exactly how skilled he was. When he was younger, he had taken huge risks just for the thrill, and before he learned how different an aroused woman tasted, he had been an even more ruthless hunter. The park had few streetlamps, some of them even broken, and so was perfect for waiting. During the day, it was filled with upper class women, with their small annoying dogs and expensive handbags, but at night, he could be alone for long periods of time and secretly observe the people passing without them noticing.
Richard stopped and breathed in the smell of the park. The unusual variation of trees, planted closely together ages ago in honor of a long-forgotten king, made it very special and he sometimes wondered if humans could smell it too. Or if they simply didn’t care. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the sound of laughter. Light voices, three of them, Richard quickly calculated as his eyes narrowed and his gaze searched the street, following the outline of the park. He soon saw the trio. It was obvious that they had been out together, their voices were raised and they were excitedly chattering about some event that clearly had taken place that night. Richard followed them with his eyes. They all wore dresses or skirts under their jackets and the chilly weather didn’t seem to worry them. It was no doubt too cold for bare skin, but alcohol had a tendency to make people forget that. Richard was just about to return his attention to the other end of the road when something unexpected happened. The trio stopped, hugs were exchanged, and one of the women waved to the others as she hurriedly crossed the street and walked the small steps up to the park. ”Text me when you get home,” one of her friends called after her and as she reached the last step, she responded with a simple: ”Absolutely!”
Richard backed deeper into the shadow when she took out her phone from her little bag that hung over her shoulder. The screen cast an unnatural blue light over her face but Richard could see that she was a very sweet looking woman. Her hair was forced into what he assumed had been an elegant creation earlier that evening, but now, long locks danced wildly around her face as she walked. She wore high heels that most likely slowed her pace, together with the alcohol he assumed was in her blood. Richard smiled cruelly. She was perfect.
Keeping himself in the shadows, he followed her through the park. The well-maintained grass under his shoes made no sound as he quickly shortened the distance between them, and he knew that as long as he avoided the small road, he could come very close without her noticing. The thirsty hunter in him claimed that this place was perfect to strike and Richard was very tempted to ignore the voice of reason, telling him to get further away from her friends. If she cried out, there was still a small risk that they could hear her and come to her aid. He bided his time and kept her in sight as she continued to walk, her phone glued in her hand. She was unaware of his presence, but soon she should be, he thought as he expectantly licked his upper lip. She would ease his mind for tonight at least.
Out of nowhere, a lanky middle-aged man, dressed in a well-worn jacket and a stained baseball cap, appeared on the road in front of her. He swayed as he walked, but she didn’t see him until he blocked her way. Nervously, she looked around then finally decided to walk past him, but his dirty hand gripped the sleeve of her jacket. When she tried to pull it from him, his other hand grabbed her upper arm hard. Richard couldn’t really hear everything said between them, but he stopped, listened and waited. There were threatful words uttered and the woman yelled ”no!” in a high-pitched voice when the drunken man tried to advance on her. Richard took his hands out of his pockets, clenched his fists and decided to step in. His tall frame appeared behind the much shorter woman, and one look at the hostile expression on his face made her attacker release her.
”Leave,” Richard hissed through gritted teeth as the man backed off, lifted his hands in defense, muttered something, and then turned and ran as quickly as his unstable body could manage. The woman, still holding her phone so hard her knuckles whitened, spun around and stared at Richard with shock spread all over her face. In silence, she looked at him from head to toe. Richard didn’t move a muscle. It was as if she was trying to decide if he was a threat or not, and in the process, she took in every bit of him, his confident posture, the dark look in his eyes, thin lips pressed tightly together, and his controlled breathing. When her shoulders relaxed just slightly, he knew she had made up her mind.
”Thank you,” she finally whispered and a weak smile appeared on her lips. ”I don’t know what would have happened if…” her voice died as the thought of what could have happened slapped her right in the face. ”You saved me.” She put her phone in her bag again and started rubbing her hands together. Richard looked at her shivering body, and he could see that the situation made her nervous. He wasn’t sure if it was the previous incident that affected her or if it was… him. ”I should go,” she said with a final glance at his mouth, as if she expected him to say something, and then turned to leave. His predatory instinct wanted her to flee so he could hunt her down and take what he needed from her, but something in her eyes made him hesitate. Maybe he could play a different game.
”Wait,” he said, with as much kindness in his voice he could muster, ”you shouldn't walk home, all alone, at this hour. Do you live nearby?” When she replied with the name of her street, he realized that it was just through the park and then a few more blocks. He took a chance. ”Do you want some company to your door? We live in the same neighborhood.” The lie slipped easily from him and he gave her a warm reassuring smile. ”I can’t stand the thought of that man coming after you again,” he added slyly, and the scared look she gave him said it all. She nodded her acceptance.
They walked in silence through the park, and when the warm city light out on the street wrapped its comforting blanket of light around them, she seemed more relaxed again. As they continued down the street, she started to talk about her eventful evening, her friends and the questionable decision to walk home in heels. Richard let her talk and asked a few polite questions, but was secretly very pleased with her babbling. He preferred to not be asked so many questions in return. Her name was Ana, she had a contagious laugh, and her eyes glittered every time he looked into them. Soon the possibility to devour her outside, in one of the many dark corners they passed, would be gone, and confident in his decision, Richard chose to play nice. Attraction, closely related to lust, was a smell that nobody could hide from him, even if they wanted to, and she was not aware of the sweetness that oozed from her body.
When they finally reached her door, Richard forced the dark impulse to wait, acting as if this was all he had intended. He watched Ana, who suddenly looked insecure, and waited. There was a small risk that she would go inside alone, but if so, the house looked dark enough for a quick ending to this night. He had done it before, and he would again, if necessary. But if she wanted him to stay, the pleasure of breaking her skin would be even greater.
”I…I don’t usually do this.” Ana’s voice, feminine and fragile, like she feared his response, held a question she was unsure how to ask. ”But…if you don’t have any other plans, and as a thanks for saving me earlier.” She shifted on her feet, weighing her words carefully on a scale of gold. ”Would you like to come in, for a coffee or something? A beer maybe?” She hesitated when he didn’t immediately answer, and he could see her emotions shifting in her blue eyes. He loved how easily he could read her, like an open book where every page just got more and more interesting. This distraction was going to be better than he initially had hoped for. She blushed as he stared intently at her, and just as she was about to open her mouth and apologize for her improper invitation, he spoke in a dark voice that made her swallow hard. ”I would love some coffee.”
Ana placed two mugs on the kitchen table and turned her attention to the coffee machine on the big kitchen island. Richard watched her fill the machine, a small tremble in her hands revealed her feelings but his self-control and impatient nature had been tested enough for tonight. He wasn’t here to try her java or have endless conversations.
”Ana,” he murmured huskily as he came up behind her, ”is it really coffee you want to offer me, or is it something else?” She grabbed the counter for support, and Richard could hear how she stopped breathing. He gently placed his hands on her upper arms and caressed them. She let out a small suppressed whine as he firmly pressed his broad upper body against her back. Then he slowly turned her around, and she looked up at him with an astonished expression on her face. Richard pulled her closer and bent down to cover her lips with his. As she parted her lips, a moan fell from them, and he ravenously took advantage of her mouth. Ana kissed him back and, trapped between the counter and him, she was not going to be able to escape when he decided it was time for him to do what he came for. He grinned as she broke the kiss to get some air. As usual, he had been right: she was a perfect prey.
Lust danced in her eyes when she met his gaze, and for a second, he felt something that could be taken for sympathy; she had no idea what kind of beast she had welcomed into her own home. He frowned at the feeling but crashed his lips against Ana’s once more. She was more than willing, he didn’t need to doubt that, but as his tongue explored hers, a disturbing feeling grew inside, something was not right. With a frustrated groan, he started to unbutton her dress and as it fell to the floor, an image of Sofia flashed in front of his eyes. He tried to ignore it, but the now exposed skin under his hands woke memories from another activity earlier that evening. Ana’s soft skin was warm when Richard pressed his lips against her neck. She sighed longingly as he dragged his bearded chin from her ear to her shoulder, leaving the skin sensitive to his touch. Her beating pulse called to him as he let his tongue glide over the vein on her neck, leaving a wet trail, like a mark on a treasure map for where to find the hidden gold. The hunter in him was ready, he could almost taste the blood in his mouth, but when she tilted her head to the side, urging him to continue with his treatment, he suddenly could smell the sweet scent of jasmine. It was wrong, he knew she wasn’t there, but he closed his eyes and sighed possessively. He saw her clearly, standing fully naked with the red moon shining above her, and she called his name like a siren would snare an innocent sailor. She was enchanting beyond anything he had ever seen.
Ana ran her hand over Richard’s hair, and the pleading in her voice was desperate as she whispered his name. Richard, lost in his own mind, licked her neck absently and murmured a single word against her skin; ”Sofia”
Then he sank his fangs deep into Ana’s neck, and her cry woke him from his spell. She tried to push him away, but he was much stronger, and he quickly covered her mouth to prevent her neighbors from sounding the alarm before he was gone, and with her body trapped between the counter and his hard chest, Richard finally took what he needed. A sob left her throat when he eventually released her. Pain, hurt and fear had replaced the burning lust in her eyes and shock hit her when she realized what he had done. Without a word, Richard grabbed a napkin from the counter, wiped his mouth and placed it in his pocket. He glanced at Ana, who sank to the floor in just her underwear, violently shaking, mostly from shock no doubt.
As he closed the door to her apartment quietly behind him, he spent one last lingering thought on her. She was in pain, but she would make it; he hadn’t been that rough. Satisfaction filled him as he silently stepped out on the street and, under the cover of night, took a different path away from her house. The metallic taste in his mouth calmed him, but the unwelcome restless feeling settled in his stomach before he even got home. Ruthless hunting was not what he needed right now; it was only a temporary pleasure. Again, the picture of Sofia, now sitting on his lap and looking at him over her shoulder, filled his vision. Anger rose in his chest and heated his body. She had no right to do this to him. No right at all.
Richard slammed the door to his apartment in frustration, making the large mirror in the hall jump on its hook. He kicked off his shoes and hung the coat carelessly on one of the hangers. It looked like it was ready to slip off, but Richard couldn’t care less. Then he went directly to his wine cooler, the trophy of his newly renovated kitchen, and took out a bottle of red wine. A single large crystal glass stood upside down by the sink, carefully washed up the evening before, and Richard filled it almost to the brim. Then he grabbed it and went over to the huge window in the living room. From here, he could look out over all the roofs of the nearby buildings, and as always during clear nights, they formed interesting shapes in the moonlight. He glared at the red moon and cursed loudly. The perfectly chilled wine did nothing to calm him down, and he paced in front of the window like a caged animal. He knew what he wanted. What he needed. The only problem was that he couldn’t have it. At least not now. He had to be patient, something he often struggled with. He emptied the glass and allowed his mind to wander freely. The one person that could make his restless body calm was tucked in under his brother's duvet. But not for long. He would make sure of that.
ADoW request: Phoebe sires for the first time
Had to think super hard, because I feel like Phoebe would be taught not to turn anyone recklessly. So, I'm combing this with another request!
Tumblr media
"Okay, are you ready?" Phoebe asked her daughter. Catherine nodded.
Their daughter had finished her first degree at university. Biochemistry, like her father and so, the deal was that after university she could be turned. After extensive genetic testing, it was shown it was safe for Phoebe to sire her. Marcus would have, but the chance of Blood rage was too high.
On the other hand, Phoebe came from Miriam's impeccable bloodline (Her words, not Phoebe's,)
Twenty days into Phoebe began to understand Miriam's frustration with her when she was a fledgling. As in Catherine was refusing to feed on a human. She had a ginger cat, Calliope, that she had been feeding on.
"How do I-?" Phoebe had called Miriam.
"Ah Ah Ah! Your daughter, you raise her!" Miriam interrupted.
"But-"
"Nope! I will greet my grandchild when she is a proper vampire raised by her parents. Goodbye!" And she cut the phone. Phoebe cursed her sire and sighed. She should be able to do this. She had dealt with her teenage years, she should be able to do this.
"Catherine," Phoebe said sternly. The young woman looked up and Phoebe dragged her down to the dining room, where there were multiple glasses of blood Francoise had set out.
"Pick one," Phoebe ordered.
"Mum-"
"No. You need to. In fact, you have to. I know exactly how you are feeling, but you need to so that you can stay. That was why I turned you and I will not have my daughter starve to death. So. Pick. One." Phoebe ordered, her tone and voice leaving no room for argument.
Francoise looked on proudly, as Catherine relented and began sniffing the different samples before stopping at one, sniffing it and drinking it.
"I like this one."
"Middle-aged female," Phoebe mused, "Good."
