What do their wedding rings look like?

When finding the ones I didn't already have I thought you said engagement rings so hopefully this is okay... There IS a difference but these are the main rings! :)

Mare and Cal:

They already had a promise ring and Cal loved the look but not for an engagement ring. It was more casual. He had this custom made and designed for her, it took months to think of what she would actually like since Mare doesn't usually like blingy jewelry. The dark jewel and infinity loop was what sealed the deal.

Maven and Iris:

Iris thought she would have to buy her own ring💀 but Maven actually wanted to come off as a semi-gentleman and start on a good track so he got her the one that she uses.

Tibe and Coriane:

It resembles a sun because he always thought she resembled a sun in her personality and also how she made him feel.

Julian and Sara:

Sara prefers pearls rather than harsh jewels so Julian was going to go with a pearl ring but he didn't like any of the styles he could find. These jewels, though, are elegant and not harsh. They both thought it was absolutely gorgeous. It always catches in the light.

Ruth and Daniel:

I think at first they would just have a band but then once they come into having more money later Daniel replaces it and Ruth is OBSESSED.

Farley and Shade:

Part of the reason their engagement would take so long is neither had any idea whatsoever of what kind of ring they would actually want that wouldn't look tacky or overdone.

Eve and Elane:

Need I say more? It's gorgeous, silver, expensive, and has an infinity loop to symbolize their forever love. They would have matching ones.

no bc the part in War Storm, right after they capture Maven and they're carrying him away and he's talking to the voice in his head saying, "I did as you said, I did as you said" breaks my heart into a million pieces every single time omg.

i love that red queen puts family as the chief unit of love even above true romantic love like that for some reason is SO overrated in ya media. i dont think of the characters within friendship or romantic groups first, i unconsciously catergorise them into their family.

cal loves mare but cal will put maven first always and he loves his dad and his image so much he’s willing to sacrifice his character and relationship with her to fulfil the expectations set by his family and its not until realising what his MOTHER wanted for him that he lets go. and mare loves cal but she will always put her siblings and parents first which is why everything started with gisa and shade’s loss and it ended with her sister and the loss of her brother too. maven loves mare but he loves elara more even if she twisted him and elara loves maven more than the entire kingdom and thats why she twisted him. and elara couldn’t enact her plan to make maven king without getting rid of his love for cal first!! when shade gets killed mare HAS to kill elara because that is the only way she can make sure her pain is even with at least one person.

cameron does everything for her brother’s safety, she was willing to abandon her morals and dehumanise anyone standing in her way if thats what needed to happen. and after morrey was safe she quit— nothing was worth losing herself over except him. farley and shade’s love was so pure that it brought life and family to the farleys who were already broken with the grief of being halved. their love brought a daughter named after the death of the woman that destroyed the family, and it was so healing.

and that is what KILLS me about the samos family!!! that compared to all this unconditional loyalty— the samos family is a continuous act of playing at love and loyalty, when in reality volos and larentia could not care less about their children because they dont know how to. silver society never showcases this love and so then you have so many parents fucking up their kid in so many ways but doing it out of love because thats how they see it— all except volo and larentia.

so the samos family is an exception. i cant think of evangeline without thinking of elane and ptolemus and i cant think of ptolemus without thinking of evangeline and wren. thats their family. and at least evangeline and ptolemus experienced real love with each other, even if they were never taught it (evangeline’s fear over shade’s death was proof that she could imagine a world without him and it was one of the few times she was genuinely scared in the series).

so it seems the poppy war has become my absolute favorite series so ofc i'm losing my mind comparing every scene with my other favorite series (red queen) and making an unfathomable amount of headcanons

something in my soul is touched when i reread the scene in war storm where maven goes to mare's stilts home and destroys it

it feels like he was in mourning, you know? because he had lost her. he lost her so so many times, but she was so close to him THIS time and she slipped right between his fingers like cupped water.

and it specifically feels like mourning because maven calore didn't feel love. all he ever felt was loss and the idea of love that was more leaned toward obsession. so instead of mourning in sadness and depression like he did with thomas, he mourned with rage and destruction with mare.

HotTake (My Unresolved/One-Sided Beef with War Storm)

Iris should never had a POV, as cool and mysterious as her introduction was in King's Cage. Her POV negatively affected the overall impact of the plot in War Storm.

Let me explain:

Since she was a new character with unknown goals and motives, she was shrouded in mystery, with some readers even hoping that maybe she would be an unlikely ally. It would have been interesting to figure out who she is.

Instead, her POV was an exposition/info dump about the Lakelands, added too many eyes on the OPPOSING SIDE of the war, and diminished the possible impact and tension of the plot twists that happened in War Strom such as;

Anabel and Julian offer Salin Irial to Iris without ANYONE of the Main Characters knowing directly (Not even Cal, who is heir to the throne and their close family).

Iris BETRAYING the Great Betrayer Maven. The moment I read her thoughts about Maven, where he is constantly undermining and dismissing her. I knew Iris was gonna betray her husband.

Volo's Death at the hands of Anabel and Julian. The fact that only Evangeline picked up on her father being offered to the Cygnets when Julian and Anabel gave Salin in exchange for Maven was heartbreaking and conflicting, but it would have been so much more dramatic if we didn't see it from a mile away.

Adding Iris' POV also took away space for more Cal and Maven POVs which are the characters that the fandom was excited to read when Aveyard informed which characters will be having their POVs in War Storm.

Overall, Iris had one of the coolest character introductions in the RQ series, but it went tank when her POVs gave away too much too soon, and for me, the story suffered because of it.

Maven: "Is it hot in here, or just you" - followed by me serenading him with a one woman hamilton production (cus he likes the theatre ya see)

Mare: "Are you lightning? Cuz I wanna make you McQueen" - and then I would choose literally anything over her (i sensed a recurring theme in the books and it seemed to end well for all parties 🥰)

Cal: "Are you a campfire? cuz I want s'more" - and then i'd pull out marshmellows and we'd make s'mores

Kilorn: "Are you a fisherman? Cuz i'm hooked" - before becoming a fish and doing the macarana (in my head he isn't exactly straight so idk what to do for him)

Iris Cygnet: "Am I drowning or just looking into your eyes?" - and then she'd probably actually drown me but like in a cool fun way

Evangeline: I am not getting in the way of my fave girl kissers, but if i did - "Are you a steel drum? Because the rhythm of your heartbeat is music to my ears"

Im actually well proud of some of these, I guess thats why they call me the best skibidi rizzler

what was all the guys reactions to their girls being preg

Cal - Absolutely overjoyed. Mare told him by having him open up a gift with the positive test and a pair of baby shoes in it, he set the box down immediately after connecting the dots and picked her up (careful not to hurt her) and spinning her around while they both laughed and smiled.

Kilorn - Him and Cameron having a baby would be a bit of a different process because they would most likely adopt. He would be so thrilled to have a kid after being an uncle to the Barrows kids for so long. Cameron always jokes about how excited he gets at the thought. When they finally bring home their son he has his undivided attention.

Maven - Also a different situation since he doesn't really want kids. If he and Iris were to have them it would be to carry on the bloodline. However, if she were to announce her pregnancy he would show full support and later that night that's when he would officially vow to put in his full effort of being a father. He would warm up to the idea and get excited little by little but also more and more nervous.

Shade - He would have been SHOCKED. But also being sly about it after Farley got used to the idea. She probably wouldn't have had a grand reveal or anything, they would have lifted the test up together and seen at the same time. Since it was a complete surprise and the opposite of ideal for their situation at the time she probably would have be speechless and Shade in the moment was just focused on helping her through it. He would be the one to really calm her down and get all the smiles out of her, fully ready to go through it together.

Bree - Like Shade and Farley he and his baby mama weren't married, just engaged, so it was sudden and they didn't quite know how their families would react. Did that stop him from picking her up from being so happy? No, no it did not. That was probably the second best day of his life, the first being when his son Kouvr was actually born.

Tramy - As I said in my next gen post, Tramy and his wife were dealing with infertility and it was super hard on them. They adopted as well, he was so excited he was jittery (which Tramy never is because he has the calmest personality you'll ever know) and then when his wife finally got pregnant four years later with his second child, his first daughter, he was even more excited. He would be bragging on social media every month counting down the days until her due date.

mare: grand theft auto 💀🙏 any gta game she can get her hands on but it started with the chinatown wars on ds

cal: missed out on a proper childhood so is treating his inner child to fnaf for the first time and idk… something something about the story being an overarching narrative about a brother trying to pick up the remnants of his family through his grief… he says he doesnt get the lore butbhe kinda does. also had a goat simulator phase for the same reasons but minus the angst

Half suspicion towards her Lakelander motives and respect for her battle prowess. Constantly telling Maven he needs to train better to get to her level/surpass it. Maven's eye twitches. Iris lays a hand on his shoulder and offers to help kill him once Tibe is out of earshot. Wait that sounds awesome hold on a sec--
