hi!! do you have any tips or resources for newbies who wanna play DnD? my friend and i keep talking about it but its hard to find a place to start? the game just looks confusing lol

definitely start with 5e (that’s the most recent edition of d&d and the most streamlined) and if you can, join a game with someone who has played before. you’ll likely need at least one or two more people anyway (but i don’t suggest a group larger than 5, it just tends to drag the gameplay if a lot of folks are new)if you don’t have access to a game with more seasoned players out of just the people you know, see if there’s any d&d events coming up (a lot of gamer bars or gaming stores will have info on that or even host them themselves)

if character creation is overwhelming, maybe try pulling a pre-rolled character from the internet, like here

i also feel like i honestly learned a lot more about d&d from listening to liveplay podcasts like the adventure zone because they were learning to play in their early episodes and so you go to learn along with them

the d&d rules look overwhelming, but the ultimate judgement calls are up to the dungeon master. sometimes that means they can fudge the rules a bit. it depends what you want from a game but personally i really like DMs that believe in the “rule of cool” where sometimes Maybe a spell or an attack isn’t supposed to work exactly how the player wants it to, but the idea is neat so they’ll let it slide for the fun of the game. d&d has a lot of components at first glance, but it’s also a hugely flexible and changeable game

15. five most influential books over your lifetime.

inheritance cycle - inspired me to actually start writing fantasy. it was definitely a ripoff of eragon w/ gryphons but like. it was a start.

lord of the rings - my mom & i used to talk about these books all of the time, which helped me learn how to analyze media & figure out what i wanted to write vs what i didn’t

the last unicorn - a beautiful story w/ so many quotable parts!!! it makes me wistful & nostalgic & just. i adore it a lot & the story has stuck with me through so much.

tales of a fourth grade nothing - this is the first book i ever remember having read to me. (having it read to me is also one of my oldest memories.) specifically, the part where fudge eats the turtle. i honestly thought i imagined the book until i read it again when i was older.

dragon riders of pern - this one taught me that fantasy + sci-fi could be combined in a brilliantly inventive way, & made me feel less silly for some of the concepts i was throwing around for a story at the time!!

20. would you rather be in Middle Earth, Narnia, Hogwarts, or somewhere else?

i already answered this but!!! i would want to live in the world i created for the metanoia series—eldora.

Hello there! Yes, of course! Thank you so much for your interest :) I’m not entirely sure what you mean with “all of them”? You mean all my WIPS? I’m currently only focusing on The Dawnbringer though, the others are all on halt. I wish I could work on all of them at the same time, ha.

yo! i am loving your pirate wip! have you got a wattpad cause i needs to follow?

I do have a wattpad but I don’t actually use it for anything but commenting on other people’s works! I have yet to actually post anything, and I doubt I will anytime soon because I’m more of a private writer. ^^

OSS is currently only in its first draft stage, and there’s a lot of it that requires heavy editing/rewriting before I can even think of sharing the full thing! I’m thinking I’ll get some beta readers for it near or at completion of the second draft, and then I can figure out whether I’d actually like to publish it or not!

In the meantime, though, I do have a taglist for it if you’d like to be added. ^u^

i haven’t seen anyyy news about it in a while but i wouldn’t say there’s no hope? syfy either does stuff in 10 seconds or 10 years tbh. i can’t say much because i’m not in the trc fandom (though i know many people i follow and who follow me are), but i found this twitter account from a fan that seems to think they’re still in the early development stages. hopefully they go through with the show and make it good!
