author: I know it's been some time since. But thank you dear anon for sending me an ask about making somebody happy
He would either buy them, or have his sister make them. He would still help, but Roy doesn’t have amazing cooking/baking skills. So it’s just easier and better for him to do that with someone else.

7) Would your MC bake treats themselves or buy them?
Despite being great at baking, she rarely does it. Spending lots of hours in the kitchen is just not something that Doris enjoys. But in situations like meeting with a new friend, or Christmas event... She will try to forget about how tiring it trully is, and just think about the delicious food.

Court of Darkness: The Spray Bottle
Random CoD inspired list based off my cats. Currently, I am trying to train them to not jump on counters by spraying them with a water bottle to try and stop bad habits. That made me think…if the MC were to do the same thing with the CoD consorts, what bad/annoying behavior would the MC spray them for and what would the reactions be?
Guy:
*Sprays Guy in the face*
Guy: Tsk. What was THAT for?
MC: You need to tell me what you’re feeling!
Guy: *Glares* I did!
MC: Grunts don’t count.
Guy: *Scowls*
MC: Scowls don’t count either. Words! Actual words! *Sprays with bottle again*
Jasper:
MC: Stop smirking so smugly! You don’t know everything you arrogant man! *Sprays bottle at Jasper* Sigh. Now you look even more smug, damn it.
Toa:
MC: OK, please know I hate doing this, because I know there are lots of expectations for you by everyone in your life, but…
*Sprays bottle at Toa*
MC: Stop being so strict when teaching me! It’s super nerve-wracking!
*Toa stares, shocked at MC*
MC: I’m sorry, that was harsh.
Toa: Compared to how my family and tutors raised me, it wasn’t.
MC: *Heart shatters* Oh God, now I’m really sorry. *Digs in pocket and shoves something in Toa’s mouth* Here, eat this caramel!
Toa: OOMPH!
Knight:
MC: *Sprays Knight with bottle* Stop belittling yourself! You’re such a loyal, true friend, worthy of praise and love!
Knight: Oy. Belittle. Did you have to use that word?
MC: Um, oops, sorry! *Sprays water on herself* Forgive me?
Knight: Well…*Grumbles* I suppose. Wanna go see kitties at the pier?
MC: Yay! Yes please! *Holds Knight’s hand as they walk together. Knight grumbles to himself but is secretly pleased*
Fenn:
MC: Fenn, remember the conversations we’ve had about personal space? About not invading it if I don’t want you to?
Fenn: Of course Treasure!
MC: You’re sitting in my lap.
Fenn: So I am! *Nods emphatically and purrs*
MC: *Sprays bottle directly in face*
Fenn: Oooooooh. Do it again!
Lynt and Tino:
MC: OK Lynt, I have class. You need to get up and get your head out of my lap.
*Lynt continues to sleep*
MC: Tino, can you give me a hand here?
Tino: Oh my MC! It looks like Prince Lynt still needs his sleep! Oh stars, Prince Lynt please wake up!
*Lynt continues to sleep*
Tino: I’m so sorry! You might miss class!
MC: *Takes spray bottle and blasts Lynt* Wake up! You can’t sleep through EVERYTHING!
Lynt: Hmmmm? So sleepy.
MC: *Takes spray bottle and blasts Tino* And stop enabling him! He’s a grown man for goodness sakes!
Roy:
*Takes a gigantic garden hose and drenches water all over Roy*
MC: Stop acting like a B-rated Avari tool! The real you is sweet, passionate, and SO *increases water pressure* MUCH *increases water pressure to max* BETTER than prince perfect you strawberry-pink lemonade haired idiot! Be yourself!
*Roy stands, eyes wide open, water dripping off his clothes*
MC: Also, sometimes you need to express what you’re actually feeling/thinking, you know, like I just did? You kinda suck at doing that unless forced.
MC: Ummm, need a towel to dry off? *Roy continues to stare. Clothes cling to his skin* Actually, never mind. You look perfect as is. *My god he’s gorgeous* Stay wet please. Bye! *MC runs away*
Grayson:
MC: Grayson, thank you for helping me!
Grayson: Don’t thank me. I did nothing of consequence.
MC: *Sprays Grayson between the eyes* Stop putting yourself down! You are brave, and one of the most considerate and genuine people I know, magic or no magic. *Aims bottle at Grayson* I will keep this up until you actually believe it yourself, good sir.
Grayson: I am not worth the trouble.
MC: *Sprays bottle again* What did I tell you Grayson? I didn’t want to do this, but you leave me no choice. I’m going to ask Sherry to join me in my spray bottle efforts.
Grayson: Please don’t.
MC: OK. We’re going to try this again. *Breathes deeply and aim bottle directly at Grayson* Grayson, thank you for helping me!
Grayson: *Says nothing for a few seconds, then sighs* You’re welcome.
Rio:
Rio is the walking embodiment of a loyal, energetic puppy. Such a good boy! It’s hard to imagine him being legitimately bad or having bad habits. However…
Rio: *Eating three meals worth of food in the mess hall*
MC: Hey Rio. RIIIIIIOOOOO. Hellllloooooo. *waves hand in front of his face. Rio remains oblivious*
MC: Sigh. *Sprays water on side of Rio’s face* RIO!
Rio: Oh. Hey Sunbeam! *Licks water from his face* Thanks, I was pretty thirsty! But next time, could ya give it to me in a glass?
MC: Rio, that wasn’t why I—
Rio: *Looks at MC with puppy eyes*
MC: Um, never mind.
Lance:
MC: Hey Lance. How’re you doing?
Lance: *Says nothing, stares at MC*
MC: Lance. Laaaaaaannnnnccceeee.
Lance: *Still says nothing*
MC: *Sprays him directly in the eyes*
Lance: Oi there! Why’d you do that?
MC: You are one of the kindest people I know. But you’re soooo awkward and broody. I mean, you talk more to animals than to people.
Lance: Well, at least animals don’t spray water in my face!
Bonus - Sherry!
Sherry: MC! I’ve heard you’ve been spraying everyone with water! What about me? Spray me!
MC: Aw, but I have no reason to! You’re the perfect friend!
Sherry: *Gives MC biggest hug. Then sprays MC in the face* Got you, hehe!
MC: I’m SO going to get you! *Runs outside chasing Sherry with spray bottle*
CODA:
Sherry and MC are running outside, ducking behind benches and bushes, trying to spray one another with water. Suddenly, they hear a low chuckle.
“Ah, so you are here. And Sherry. Very good.” Suddenly, a spray of water hits MC, drenching her.
“You said I shouldn’t be a tool. But, you said nothing about using a tool.” Roy chuckles as he holds a garden hose. His clothes are still dripping wet.
“Hey! Sherry, come help me!”
“Looks like it’s time for me to go MC! Have fun you two!” Sherry leaves, and winks at her brother, laughing.
Roy walks to the MC, a twinkle in his eye. “So, you also told me I should be more open with how I feel.” He puts an arm around her her shoulder. “Let’s go back to my chambers. If you will allow it, I’ll be quite transparent there.”
“I’d…like that.” She holds his hand. He looks down at her, a smile on his face. He wraps her in a hug.
“Thank you Heartspell. For being honest with me. For showing me how to be honest as well.”
If there are other consorts y’all want a CODA for (i.e., your fav consort), make a request in the notes section and I’ll do my best to add it!

Godfather and trailblazer Daddy U-Roy has died | Entertainment | Jamaica Gleaner
Jamaican vocalist and pioneer of toasting, Ewart Beckford, better known to the world as Daddy U-Roy, has died, his partner Marcia Smikle confirmed to The Gleaner.
He passed away at 11:10 last night at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) after undergoing surgery there.
Born on September 20, 1941, the trailblazer, who gave every toaster, rapper and MC their career, was 79.
An emotional Smikle, who has been by the legendary toaster's side for 41 years, said that U-Roy had been ailing for some time and had been in and out of the hospital.
"He has diabetes and hypertension, but those are under control because we make sure that he takes his medication. But he also had a kidney problem and was being treated at Andrews [Hospital], and then they told us to take him to UWI for surgery because the kidney had messed up the bladder, and he was bleeding," Smikle said.
"They recommended dialysis for the kidney, but he didn't want to do that," she added.
U-Roy was admitted to the UHWI, and the surgery performed on Tuesday.
"It was successful, and the bleeding stopped. But afterwards, the doctors realised that somewhere else was blocked up, and they had to take him back to theatre on Wednesday. Him heart stopped three times, and him come back and then last night he died. Him never mek it," she told The Gleaner, between tears.
Smikle said that despite his illness, U-Roy was still active on a daily basis.
"He was still doing dubplate specials here at home for people who wanted them," she said...
... An original toaster from the 60s, often hailed as the Godfather of Dancehall, Daddy U-Roy was also known as The Originator and Hugh Roy.
His melodic style of toasting, applied with a highly developed sense of timing, set him in a class by himself.
U-Roy's first two singles released on Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label, Wake the Town (1970) and Wear You to the Ball (1970), were Jamaican hits and established his reputation as one of Jamaica's most popular toasters.
U-Roy then went on to work with other major producers on the island, including Lee 'Scratch' Perry, Bunny Lee, Phil Pratt, Sonia Pottinger, Rupie Edwards, Alvin Ranglin, and Lloyd Daley.
The year 1971 saw the release of Beckford's DJ version of The Paragons' The Tide Is High. Beckford first toured the UK in 1972 with the artistes Roy Shirley and Max Romeo.
In 1975, the album Dread in a Babylon was released in the United States, Europe and Jamaica by Virgin Records.
The success of Dread in a Babylon led to a series of Tony Robinson-produced albums: Natty Rebel (1976 ), Rasta Ambassador (1977), and Jah Son of Africa (1978).
Beckford's international popularity led to the album Natty Rebel being released in 1976 on Virgins' imprint Front Line label in Nigeria, as well as in France on Virgin and Polydor.
In 1980, Blondie had a world-wide hit with the reggae track The Tide Is High, which prompted Virgin to re-release the original Paragons' track from 1967 and the 1971 U-Roy version as a single that same year.
U-Roy was featured on the album True Love by Toots and the Maytals, which won the Grammy Award in 2004 for Best Reggae Album, and showcased many notable musicians including Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Trey Anastasio, Gwen Stefani and No Doubt, Ben Harper, Bonnie Raitt, Manu Chao, The Roots, Ryan Adams, Keith Richards, Toots Hibbert, Paul Douglas, Jackie Jackson, Ken Boothe, and The Skatalites.
In 2007, U-Roy was honoured by the Jamaican Government, receiving the Order of Distinction for his contribution to music. ...

(*) the title literally means: “They Killed Spider-Man” and the lyrics are just about... trying to understand who actually did it. also i’m pretty sure if you’re over 18 and you don’t know the entire song by heart, they revoke your citizenship (**) this is half in Italian and half in English, so it might be more accessible if you don’t speak Italian and want to understand (at least partially) what the lyrics are about (***) Daniele Silvestri said FUCK American imperialism back in ‘02, we stan a visionary king (****) when this song first came out i was far too young to pay attention to the lyrics, but listening to it now i’m honestly surprised ppl didn’t talk abt it more at the time, bc they’re essentially abt being a closeted gay man and Tiziano Ferro came out years later but i mean... come on. it’s not like the clues weren’t there from the beginning (the title literally means “The Things You Don’t Say”) (*****) Subsonica are actually in the top 3 of my fave bands ever. i don’t talk much abt them on here bc their fandom is minuscule but they really do mean a lot to me, i’ve seen them live like 6 times and it was hard not to put their entire discography on here, bc i basically like all of their songs and i genuinely think they’re one of the best bands we have (and, from what i’ve heard, they seem like lovely ppl as well) (******) as much as i loved Mahmood’s Soldi and i’m glad it won, this would’ve actually been my winner for Sanremo 2019. i think it’s one of the best italian songs of the last 5 years and Ghemon deserves FAR more credit for it (it’s about domestic violence but the lyrics are so delicate and compassionate, and the video is visually stunning) (*******) Ghali grew up in Milan but his family is Tunisian, so the lyrics are a mixture of Italian, Arabic and French (********) Yane is a local artist from my area and i’m honestly gutted he’s not more well-known bc i think he’s really talented. even though this song is from a few years ago i still think it should’ve been a hit and i can’t accept the fact that nobody knows abt it lmao (*********) this is another band nobody seems to know abt and it was actually my parents who introduced it to me. i’m not even sure they’re still active anymore, but i still think they’re criminally underrated (**********) my winner for Sanremo 2020. i still can’t get over the fact that she ended up 7th!! also, she kicks ass in general and her new album is great from start to finish, so maybe give her a chance and stream This Is Elodie, pls and ty.

In an infamous Newsweek cover story in March 1990, beneath the strapline “Rap Rage”, journalist Jerry Adler laid out the case for the prosecution against the corrupting influence of hip-hop which, even by that stage, had become wearyingly overfamiliar to its many fans. The broad brushstrokes of the charges were aptly satirised later, in the voice of Marge Simpson: “Rap music belongs in the rubbish bin: it encourages punching, boasting, and rudeness to hoes.” But in the midst of this archetypal George Bush Sr-era moral panic, the article made another criticism that sounded rather more accurate. Hip-hop is, Adler wrote scathingly, “music so post-industrial it’s almost not even played, but pieced together out of pre-recorded sound bites”. In the Chicago-based writer Roy Christopher’s Dead Precedents, we have an enjoyable, pithy account of why this isn’t a criticism at all.
Written with the passion of a zine-publishing fan and the acuity of an academic (he is both), Christopher explores the idea of hip-hop as “black cyberpunk”. His argument is that rap and cyberpunk were twin movements, in which technologically liberated renegades created the future by reinventing the past, building new worlds using DIY ethics and freewheeling bricolage. Like hip-hop itself, his book is layered with overlapping references and allusions, quotes and “samples’” proudly standing on the shoulders of giants.
A typical chapter takes us on a tour around four less discussed pillars of hip-hop: recording, archiving, sampling and intertextuality (MC-ing, DJ-ing, B-boying and graffiti writing are the standard quartet) – and draws on reference points as broad as Edward Snowden, Walter Benjamin, De La Soul (pictured) and Blade Runner, to discuss the hacking, reworking and the conflicted relationships rap has with history, memory and the vast libraries of cultural products now available to draw on. Perhaps we all now function in this way – perhaps we are all cyberpunks, constantly reconfiguring an unstable, half-remembered archive of clips, snippets and sounds.
Christopher quotes Adbusters magazine founder Kalle Lasn, who takes this further, and says digital citizens have been brainwashed by consumer capitalism’s onslaught, and all now “speak a kind of corporate Esperanto: words and ideas sucked up from TV and advertising”. This refusal to believe that younger adults have the agency – and cynicism – to critique, let alone transcend, the bombardment of messages thrown at them in the 21st century would at least explain why his magazine is full of sixth-form, Banksy-esque “subvertising”. Christopher knows better than this, and sees the bricoleurs as pioneers, not dupes.
Christopher’s achievement is to avoid making the connections between his two great interests, hip-hop and cyberpunk, seem forced - and to be fair, they really don’t need to be. They emerged in the same 1980s context, in a moment of intense post-industrial decline and technological upheaval; they are both reliant on a bedrock of “codes and signs to hack [and] meanings to hijack” – as acts of subversion, whether playful or polemical. There is even the Afrofuturist style of early hip-hop: its goggles, gloves, mohawks and leathers; looks “cobbled together from the fragments of past fads and fashions” – emerging in Robert Moses’s New York, a South Bronx of broken windows and social decay, devastated by “highway-bound white flight”. When Ronald Reagan visited on the campaign trail in August 1980, he said the area looked like it had been hit by an atom bomb. Looking back, it makes a certain amount of sense that the first two Mad Max films had come out either side of this visit and that year’s epochal US presidential election.
Dead Precedents is almost pamphlet-length, barely 150 pages long – although accompanied by extensive notes, bibliography and further listening, appropriately – but it is no less emphatic in its argument that the 21st century truly began with these twin movements. And even if the cyberpunk moment encapsulated in the thrilling writings of William Gibson, Rudy Rucker and Bruce Sterling has passed, its spirit lives on in the Afrofuturist R&B of Janelle Monáe or the beats of Flying Lotus, the films of Boots Riley, the Afropunk festival, and a thousand other bionically blooming flowers of hip-hop culture. And this is before we even contemplate what the young people growing up on Black Panther will go on to create. Grandmaster Flash was “hip-hop’s first hacker, its first cyberpunk”, Christopher contends at one point; he will not be the last.
Dan Hancox is the author of Inner City Pressure: The Story of Grime (HarperCollins)

A Color Study and a Demonstration of Craft
Tumblr media
Alex Da Corte’s ROY G BIV is both a video installation and an ongoing performance. The cubical structure onto which Da Corte’s video is projected will be painted a series of colors by Americo Da Corte, the artist’s brother who is a professional housepainter. The performance riffs on John Baldessari’s video Six Colorful Inside Jobs, for which the artist painted the inside of a room one color per day for six days, and brings the emotional labor and color journey of ROY G BIV into the viewer's space. Stop by, grab a seat, and enjoy a story of love, loss, and transformation.

can you rec me any song (not generic idol kpop) that the korean public loves? you always know that kind of obscure songs
hmm if we’re not going into pop songs, then a good bet would be either rap, rnb/hh or ballad songs, since those are a big hit on korean charts! and that’s the only way i can really say whether the krn public likes them or not, since i’m neither korean nor live there
firstables i’d recommend anything by zico(she’s a baby), dean(instagram), crush(ooh ahh), hyukoh(comes and goes), suran(wine), gray(good), heize(star) and zion.t(yanghwa bridge). these are by no means obscure but they’re very popular rnb/hh/whatever genre artists in south korea from what i see on charts.
and ballad/folk/rnb/soul/etc music wise i would recommend yoon jong shin(like, frame), davichi(beside me), bol4(galaxy), akmu(dinosaur, melted), paul kim(wanna love you), ailee(i will go to you like the first snow), melomance(gift), im chang jung(love again), iu(through the night, palette), kyuhyun(at gwanghwamun), park hyoshin(wildflower), sung sikyung(i still), kim yeonwoo(my apology letter, move), brown eyed soul(you, melody of the night), 10cm(bye babe, phonecert), cheeze(how do you think, mood indigo), hwang chi yeol(a daily song), kim bum soo(i miss you), standing egg(sch), mc the max(no matter where), clazziquai project(she is, curious), shin seung hun(mayo), crucial star(fall), dynamic duo(jam), busker busker(cherry blossom ending, kiss), noel(in the end), sunwoo jung ah(cat, springirls), leessang(i’m not laughing), roy kim(egoist), eddy kim(heart pound, the manual), eric nam(honestly), lee jin ah(run, random)
almost all listed are all at least somewhat popular in sk from what i know!

[Intro] Mmm, mmm, mmm Aw yeah, I'm with this I'm just gonna sit here laid back to this nice mellow beat, you know And drop some smooth lyrics 'cause '88 Time to set it straight, know what I'm sayin'? And Ain't No Half-Steppin' Word, I'm ready [Verse 1] Rappers steppin' to me, they want to get some But I'm the Kane, so, yo, you know the outcome Another victory, they can't get with me So pick a B.C. date 'cause you are history I'm the authentic poet to get lyrical For you to beat me, it's gonna take a miracle And steppin' to me, yo, that's the wrong move So what you on, Hobbs, dope or dog food? Competition, I just devour Like a pit bull against a Chihuahua 'Cause when it comes to bein' dope, hot damn I got it good, now let me tell you who I am The B-I-G D-A-double-D-Y K-A-N-E Dramatic, Asiatic, not like many I'm different, so don't compare me to another 'Cause they can't hang, word to the mother At least not with the principal in this pedigree So when I roll on you rappers, you better be Ready to die because you're petty You're just a butter knife, I'm a machete That's made by Ginsu, wait until when you Try to front, so I can chop into Your body, just because you try to be basin' Friday the 13th, I'mma play Jason No type of joke, gag, game, puzzle or riddle The name is Big Daddy, yes, Big, not little So define it, here's your walkin' papers, sign it And take a walk as the Kane start to talk, 'cause ... [Hook] Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane "Down the road" [Verse 2] My rhymes are so dope and the rappers be hopin' To sound like me, so soon I'll have to open A school of emceein', for those who wanna be in My field and court, then again, on second thought To have MC's comin' out soundin' so similar It's quite confusin' for you to remember The originator, and boy, do I hate a Perpetrator, but I'm much greater The best, oh, yes, I guess, suggest the rest should fess Don't mess or test your highness Unless you just address with best finesse And bless the paragraphs I manifest Rap prime minister, some say sinister Non-stoppin' the groove until when it's the Climax, and I max, relax and chill Have a break from a take of me actin' ill Brain cells are lit, ideas start to hit Next - the formation of words that fit At the table I sit, makin' it legit And when my pen hits the paper, ah shit! I stop and stand strong over MC's And devour with the power of Hercules Or Samson, but I go further the length 'Cause you could scalp my Cameo and I'll still have strength And no, that's not a myth, and if you try to riff Or get with, the man with the given gift of gab Your vocab, I'll only ignore Be sleepin' on your rhymes till I start to snore You can't awake me, or even make me Fear you, son, 'cause you can't do me none So, think about it if you're tryin' to go When you want to step to me, I think you should know that [Hook] Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane "Down the road" [Verse 3] I appear right here and scare and dare A mere musketeer that would dare to compare Put him in the rear, back there where he can't see clear Get a beer, idea or near stare, yeah So on to be want to be competition Tryin' to step to me, must be on a mission Up on the stage is where I'mma get you at You think I'm losin'? Pfft, picture that [Hook] Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Ain't No Half-Steppin' I'm the Big Daddy Kane Mister Cee, step to me [Verse 4] The name is Big Daddy, you know, as in, your father So when you hear a def rhyme, believe that I'm the author I grab the mic and make MC's evaporate The party people say, 'Damn, that rapper's great' The creator, conductor of poetry Et cetera, et cetera, it ain't easy bein' me I speak clearly so you can understand Put words together like Letter Man Now, that's dictation, proceedin' to my innovation Not like the other MC's that are an imitation Or an animation, a cartoon to me But when I'm finished, I'm sure that you are soon to see Reality, my secret technique Because I always speak with mentality I put my title in your face, dare you to base And if you try and come get it, yo, I'mma show you who's with it So if you know like I know, instead of messin' around Play like Roy Rogers and slow down Just give yourself a break, or someone else will take Your title, namely me, 'cause I'm homicidal That means murder, 'cause I'm about to hurt a- -nother emcee, that try to get with me I'll just break him and bake him and rake him And take him and mold him and make him Hold up the peace sign, As Salaam Alaikum!
