Some of the many glittery, ethereal objects in Thierry Mugler: Couturissime that may catch your eye are the “Blossom” chandeliers in the perfume gallery designed by Tord Boontje for Swarovski. These romantic, asymmetrical fixtures in “white” and “black” – which provide ambiance in this gallery – are inspired by nature.
“When I first looked at the crystal components, I saw that the shapes resembled leaves and flower petals,” said Boontje. “This reminded me of when I was young, I saw a frozen blossom branch after an ice storm. I sensed this memory of the beauty of the frozen, sparkling flowers reflected in the crystal.”

immense gratitude for @therealmikepatten for witnessing & documenting this performance 🙏🏾💫💖 #Repost @therealmikepatten ・・・ @kamalamackerel : Le Morne : sekinn ekrir pa efase @mbamtl @affluxbiennale Le Morne est une montagne du sud-ouest de l’île Maurice qui servait de refuge aux esclaves en fuite (ou marrons) au XIXe siècle. Le Morne is a mountain on the southwestern tip of the island of Mauritius that was a refuge for runaway slaves, called Maroons, in the 19th century. Upon the abolition of slavery in 1835, a delegation of British soldiers was dispatched to inform the Maroons of their emancipation. Believing that the army was actually there to recapture them, many of the former slaves climbed to the summit of the mountain and leapt to their deaths. Kama La Mackerel revives the figure of the slave and the mountain – now a symbol of resistance – in this original performance that honours and gives voice to the dead. #LeMorne #Mauritius #KamaLaMackerel #affluxbiennale #mbamtl #MuseedesbeauxartsdeMontreal #mtlmoments #performanceart (at Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CWjf_zgr-3J/?utm_medium=tumblr

Mugler established himself as one of the most daring and innovative designers of the late twentieth century, leaving his mark as an artist, couturier, director, photographer and perfumer. Showcasing nearly 130 outfits, most on view for the first time, the exhibition highlights Mugler’s interests in fantasy, glamour, science fiction, eroticism, and the natural world.
Already seen by more than one million visitors in Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and France since its launch in 2019, the exhibition concludes its tour in Brooklyn. Tickets to #Couturissime are on sale now.
