re: the post about male gamers throwing fits when the playable character is female: The Pokémon Masters EX subreddit is really foul about it.

PokéMas EX is the only part of the franchise in which the male and female MCs are treated EQUALLY*, but because it is equal and the female MCs get to be the canon MCs half the time as a result, the subreddit is constantly crying/screaming/throwing up about how the female MCs get everything, and DeNA hates the male MCs and especially men, and all they want in life is for the male MCs (who are the most important characters in the franchise to them now) to get more alts, so on and so forth.

Doesn't matter that Male Is Default in literally every other aspect of the franchise, or that the division is actually EQUAL in PokéMas; because the male MCs don't ALWAYS have the spotlight and have to share it with girls who should be optional, that is reason enough for sub-wide tantrums. (And don't even get me started on how much hate Lillie got when she had the most alts, but when Steven surpassed her? Crickets. HMM, WONDER WHY THAT IS . . .)

*Most regions MCs are treated equally in PokéMas. Kanto is the exception. Red is the golden boy and Leaf is treated like garbage. She didn't even get to participate in the Kanto villain arc, which DeNA recently made fun of with an unlockable title. The subreddit is fine with this however, because Leaf is a girl and Red is a boy. If Leaf was being treated like gold while Red was forgotten though? The sub would be raging, trust.

The husui and sinnoh main characters situation is very strange, they are not supposed to be the same person (at least in pokemas) but i think it would be very interesting if they were. Because you have a kid who saved sinnoh once, and now they are using what they remember about being a trainer to save it once again. But legends arceus doesnt really seems to care about the MC, since they just got stuck in hisui and the game never elaborates or hints on wtf will happen to them (or ingo)

It seems like they reused the MC designs just because they are already popular (specially dawn) but idk, i think its cooler for them to be older versions of the sinnoh trainer.

OKay, so it was Akari and Rei.

Also based off the trailer alone it seems like Rei's gonna be the DeNA chosen protagonist. Which I'm a tad upset about since I really wanted Akari to be the main protagonist, but also I'm glad since Rei honestly gets so little attention compared to Akari. So as much as I wanted Akari to be the lead I'm overall happy.

Though it is interesting that Rei seems familiar with Pasio, wonder if he's been there before... Imagine if DeNA's trying to hint at the theory of the Legends MC being the same as the DDP MC or well, the assistant in this case? Since in Masters Dawn's the protag while Lucas is the assistant.

...Which in hindsight, that might be why they picked Rei to be the protagonist over Akari, to reverse the roles. Well, that and the past few DeNA chosen protagonists were female. (Unsure how to count Sun and Moon as they're BOTH kinda implied to be the protagonists?) So we were bound to get another male protag eventually.

Kinda wonder if this means that when the SV protags DeNA will try to re-balance the male/female protag ratio and make Juliana the canon one.

tbh if we are following denas protag ratio the paldean mc who will assume the protag role in pokemas will be haruto. HOWEVER unlike sword/shield scarlet/violet has a lot of main plot points (arvens story, nemonas story, and pennys story) so it looks like a faux branching route. plus if we add the dlc theres also kierans story. the way i see it (and hope) both aoi and haruto are protags. the only difference is one of them is handling 2 plot points each. may arvens n pennys are combined while nemonas and kierans are combined.

but whats important here is that i hope aoi is voiced by aoi yuuki

"books-are-my-life-stuff: The "MC is such a special person" thing in Trainer Lodge is honestly inevitable because that's really the purpose of the Trainer Lodge: fanservice. I think when it comes to some of the more popular characters but already well-developed in the original game (N, Lillie) DeNA wanted to play safe by repeating what we already knew for them, because they knew the frantic fans of them would just be happy for mere crumbs about them. Like, have you seen how many people gone ham over the idea of not just being able to date N but also ride ferris wheel with him when Trainer Lodge was first teased? A lot. I'm one of them."

Which I get, but it doesn't endear those conversations to me at all. I think you can have something focus on the MC without making them the center of their world. Like, all of them are at least partially like "Oh I don't open up like this with everyone," but Elesa's is invasive in that she even mentions Skyla and discards that idea entirely for no real reason. I can get over the idea that it's just doing stuff as usual, I do get that's part of the appeal, but it's very hard for me to overlook too much adoration for this rando MC.

"Other characters who got to trainer lodge but lacked the chance to shine in the original game was when DeNA managed to make something new and interesting, while also combining what we already knew, like Gladion, Adaman, Irida, Acerola. Morty is also arguably so because his morbid sense of humor is not a thing in the original series, or any of his portrayal in other medias, it's also not a thing that every ghost-type trainer has, only a few, that's a new thing that Masters added and people like it, so his Trainer Lodge story is pushing that consistency."

That's...a fair point. Morty really doesn't display much in the games, so that angle is entirely Masters' creation. Good for him, maybe that one's more fun than I thought. Perhaps I've just grown used to this portrayal and forgot it wasn't always that way.

That's fair. Gladion's story was really good, I'd be surprised if it wasn't one of the more popular ones generally.
