Here’s one from the archives, this one dates from September 2004 when the International Terminal at DFW was still under construction in the background. We’ve got us a Mesa house colors Beech 1900D, a Midwest MD95 (wink-wink) and two AirTran MD95s (more wink-wink, LOL). Yes, I *know* they’re Boeing 717s, but in my mind they’re still MD95s. A friend of mine who used to fly 717s for AirTran affectionately referred to them as “Douglas DC-9 Series 95s”! N919ME was one of the 25 717s that Midwest took delivery of between February 2003 to May 2006. Most of them went to Mexicana Click after Midwest shut down, but a handful of those ex-Midwest 717s are now flying for Hawaiian. N919ME is now N492HA with Hawaiian. In its history, Mesa operated a total of 82 Beech 1900Ds. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KDFW #DFW #airport #igTexas #planespotting #airlines #MD95 #Boeing #717 #AirTran #MidwestAirlines #N919ME #Beech1900D #Beechcraft #MesaAirlines #DFWavgeek #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #Avgeekery #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge (at Dallas/Fort Worth Intl Airport (DFW)) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtXYd96lVep/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1xosjlq6baqkq

There’s a misconception that the fuselage of the Boeing 717/MD-95 is the same length as the DC-9 Series 30- it’s not, it’s its own unique length. Compared to the Series 30, the MD-95/717 fuselage is three frames longer but one frame shorter than the DC-9 Series 40. But compared to the Series 40, the proportions of the MD-95 are different- the extra frames of the Series 40 are split between ahead and behind the wing but because the MD-95’s engines are heavier than the JT8D engines of the legacy DC-9s, the MD-95’s extra frames are all ahead of the wings to keep balance. The fuselage ahead of the wing on the 717/MD-95 is about 57 inches/1.4 meters longer than that of the DC-9 Series 30. The Rolls-Royce BR715 engines on the 717/MD-95 are each about 1200 lbs heavier than the Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines of the first generation DC-9s (Series 10 through 50). #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KMDW #MDW #airport #Chicago #Midway #planespotting #airlines #Boeing #717 #McDonnellDouglas #MD95 #Delta #instagramaviation #N989AT #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #Avgeekery #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge (at Chicago Midway International Airport)

N608AT has its thrust reversers open as it decelerates on 13L at Dallas Love Field. There are actually two versions of the 717-200, the Basis Gross Weight version and the High Gross Weight version that has reduced underfloor cargo capacity to make room for auxiliary fuel tanks. It comes out to about a 10,000 lb difference at MTOW- the Basic Gross Weight version has a fuel capacity of 3673 gal/13903L and the High Gross Weight version has a fuel capacity of 4403gal/16665L). It adds about 600nm in range. The Basic Version uses the Rolls-Royce/BMW BR715A1-30 engine which offers up to 18500 lbs thrust at takeoff. the High Gross Weight Version uses the BR715C1-30 which offers 21000 lbs of thrust- but they’re the same engine, the difference between the A1-30 and C1-30 engines is a changed plug in the FADEC controller and some software changes. #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KDAL #DAL #DallasLoveField #airport #planespotting #instaplane #instagramaviation #Avgeekery #McDonnellDouglas #MD95 #Boeing #717 #Delta #N608AT #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge (at Dallas Love Field (DAL))
