Dari Ajang DDFF 2023, Wawali Arya Wibawa : “Denpasar Siap Wadahi Kreativitas Sineas Muda Lahirkan Karya Hebat”

BALIPORTALNEWS.COM, DENPASAR - Denpasar Documentary Film Festival (DDFF) kembali digelar. Pada gelaran yang ke-14 kalinya, tahun ini DDFF menjadi bagian dari Makin Dekat Film Festival, yang perhelatannya dirangkaikan bersamaan dengan ajang D’Youth Fest 3.0. Beberapa kegiatan pun turut digelar dalam rangkaian DDFF 2023, antara lain pelatihan, pameran, dan kompetisi film, termasuk juga di dalamnya "Malam Anugrah DDFF", yang memuncaki rangkaian kegiatan itu pada Sabtu (21/10/2023) di Taman Kota Lumintang. Hadir langsung pada kesempatan itu, Wakil Wali Kota Denpasar, I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa. Wawali Arya Wibawa dalam kesempatan itu mengemukakan, Kota Denpasar melalui perhelatan DDFF siap untuk untuk menjadi wadah aktualisasi kreatifitas para sineas, tak terkecuali kalangan pelajar dalam menelurkan karya-karya perfilman. "Kita perlu bangga, karena Kota Denpasar lewat DDFF ini bisa merangkul para sineas berbakat di bidang perfilman untuk menunjukan karya karyanya. Dihadirkan di kegiatan D'Youth Fest 3.0, pelaksanaan DDFF tentu sejalan dengan komitmen Pemerintah Kota Denpasar untuk dapat memfasilitasi anak muda dalam berkreasi dengan karya-karya yang hebat," ungkapnya. Arya Wibawa menambahkan, selaras dengan hal tersebut, Kota Denpasar senantiasa konsisten menjadikan ekonomi kreatif sebagai salah satu poros kebangkitan pembangunan. Potensi para generasi muda yang berkarakteristik kreatif, adaptif, dan inovatif adalah pondasi kuat menjadikan Kota Denpasar sebagai kota kreatif berbasis budaya. Direktur DDFF, Maria Ekaristi menjabarkan, pada gelaran tahun ini, pihak penyelenggara DDFF sebelumnya telah mengelompokkan karya dari para sineas berbakat tersebut menjadi dua kategori. Yakni, Kategori Umum dan Kategori Pelajar. "Pada DDFF tahun ini kami menerima banyak karya para sineas, baik kategori umum sebanyak 79 film maupun kategori pelajar sebanyak 35 film. Ada 10 nominasi karya unggulan yang diputar di Ruang Audio Visual Dharma Negara Alaya. Pemutaran film-film unggulan disertai juga dua film tamu dari Perancis, yakni film Bali Aga dan film Rahasia Fixer karya Henri Boudart bersama Halida Illahude," katanya. Adapun jawara kompetisi film dokumenter DDFF 2023 untuk kategori umum jatuh pada “Memories of Moluccas” karya Sutradara Risang Panji Kumoro. Film ini menyisihkan empat film unggulan lain yakni “Lahbako” karya Daris Dzulfikar, “Ludruk Dahulu, Kini dan Nanti” (Reni Apriliana), “Sang Punggawa Laut Sumbawa” (Harsa Perdana dan M.Farhan), dan “Wulla Poddu dan Padi” (Widya Arafah). Sedangkan pada kategori pelajar tampil sebagai  Juara 1 adalah “Topeng dalang Klaten” karya Latifah Rahma. Untuk juara 2 dan 3 diraih oleh “Story of bus Scalper” (Muhammad Ardi Rizqi), dan “Nguri Uri” (Auliya Qori'ah Dzulkarnaen). Para tokoh yang terlibat sebagai juri pada kompetisi tersebu adalah Tonny Trimarsanto, Erlan Basri, Rio Helmi, I Wayan Juniartha, Dwitra J Ariana, dan Agung Bawantara. Seperti disebutkan di awal, perhelatan DDFF yang menjadi bagian dari Makin Dekat Festival Film (MDFF), penyelenggaraannya dirangkaian dengan D’Youth Fest 3.0. MDFF sendiri merupakan festival yang mendekatkan beberapa festival dan aktivitas yang terkait dengan film. Acara tersebut antara lain menghadirkan pemutaran dan diskusi film dokumenter tentang Bali era 1930-an. Film-film tersebut merupakan hasil repatriasi (pemulangan kembali) film-film dokumenter lama tentang Bali produksi sineas Barat yang tersebar di berbagai museum dan lembaga arsip di seluruh dunia. Repratriasi tersebut dilakukan oleh Yayasan Arsip Bali 1928 pimpinan Marlowe Bandem. “Film-film tersebut merupakan rekaman tentang lingkungan alam dan masyarakat Bali pada tahun 1930-an dari berbagai aspek budaya, tradisi, hingga kehidupan sehari-hari,” ujar Marlowe Bandem. Le Corbusier renewed

At the 4th International Congres of Modern Architecture (CIAM) the architect Le Corbusier stated that the sky, the trees, steel and concrete where the most important elements of urbanism. The building in which the recently restructurated studio-apartment of Le Corbusier himself is situated, completely responds to these elements. Each apartment is separated by a concrete slab that arrives horizontally at the glass curtain facade, foreseen of a sun-control system. The Ghost of Peter Sellers

Peter Sellers has always been a curious figure.

Imitated, parodied, celebrated, overrated… there’s a lot of views on the man immortalised as Inspector Clouseau. Seen by many as one of the very great talents, comic and otherwise, his off as well as on screen shenanigans is too the stuff of Hollywood legend.

Not always acquiring the greatest reputation, one flick that hasn’t significantly contributed to Sellers’ oeuvre was the 17th century pirate film he made, or didn’t quite; the very subject of this new documentary centred on a relatively obscure corner of cinema.

A production as outlined plagued by mishap and misfortune from start to finish, here the filmmakers reunite after decades to debrief and unpack just what and how much went wrong. The Ghost of Peter Sellers’ creators doubling as interview subjects throughout, their and very largely their account(s) form the basis of this retelling.

Much of the archival footage first and foremost is a joy to behold. There is something supremely, intrinsically amusing, and intendedly so, about watching the cast, in the throes of any which crisis, wandering about the sets in none too common garb. Recounting the events surrounding the tempestuous production, The Ghost of Peter Sellers is as much as anything else a cautionary tale for filmmakers who have winced at like affairs that have long survived in infamy.

Most interesting when covering the man himself, the documentary diverges in lengths from chronicling the filmic fallout to examine the much debated and apparently detested comedian. A combination of classic footage and interviews alongside accounts of Sellers’ own films and chosen roles proffering ideas of just who he was and what contributed to this contentious if inarguably distinctive comic talent, these tranches are the most endearing for their uncommon and in respects hitherto unsung insight into the still beloved performer.

tonight i’m feeling so good. had the last exams before winter break yesterday, found out today that i got the best grade possible in one of them, and don’t know the grades for the other exams yet but they were all for japanese class so they can’t have gone too badly. today i had only one last lecture and after that i went to the library to finally get my copy of the queen of nothing, which i’ve been waiting for like 2 months. once home, i sorted out some adult stuff, cleaned my entire house (which has been looking like a mess for the last 2 weeks bc i’ve had no time to clean bc of exams) and then did some croquis. i really feel like i’ve started to understand my own artistic capabilities better in the past few months and i feel like i’ve opened some new door. suddenly i understand art so much more.

next i was thinking about playing a lil bit guitar and practicing the things we did with the teacher in my last guitar lesson and i’m also rly in the mood for a movie so i think i’m finally gonna watch promare tonight !!!

also i don’t have any lessons next week and on thursday i’m even gonna go and play badminton with 3 of my coursemates and i’m like 🥺“have i made FRIENDS?” and the answer seems to be yes so i’m feeling rly hopeful!!!!!!!!!!

MELBOURNE DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCHES 2019 PROGRAM

Weird, searing, strange and wonderful – the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival has launched their 2019 slate!

This year’s run features among many entries the story of Marc Hauser (above) who dearly wants to be the first skydiver to jump from 8,000+ metres high into a hurricane force jet stream; fixated on solving the world’s energy crisis.

The attempt taking place above of all places Condobolin NSW, if Marc’s antics in Chasing the Jet Stream don’t sound like your cup of tea there’s all the more reason to sit in a darkened room closer to sea level and catch one of these.

The Ghost of Peter Sellers chronicles your favourite Sellers movie that you never knew existed. A production shambles from start to finish, the filmmakers return to the scene to enliven the film that never was; too giving us a taste of one of cinema’s most beloved comedians and just how easy (or hard) it was to work with him.

80’s hardcore punk and underground favourite Agnostic Front are still going strong. Music documentaries being a staple of MDFF, band stalwarts Vinnie Stigma & Roger Miret, thriving in the New York Hardcore scene, are front and centre for The Godfathers of Hardcore.

Poaching and the scarcity of endangered wildlife has fairly been a prominent topic of late, with Silent Forests honing in on activists combating hunters in the Congo Basin. With more than half of the region’s elephant population gone, a motley crew including one of Cameroon’s first female eco-guards and a Czech conservationist with a small army of anti-poaching sniffer dogs set out to take on the threat.

Rounding out our five highlights, Dark Money follows the impact of the far-reaching Citizens United decision by the US Supreme Court. Questioning to what extent money can or should equal speech, the Sundance Award winning doco tracks the real life impact of untraceable corporate donations on US democracy and American life.

The Melbourne Documentary Film Festival runs from July 19-30, 2019
