I've been thinking about that for a long time already so. If the Lans can't drink alcohol and do some crazy stupid shit when they are drunk. And Su She is a former Lan. Does that mean he can't drink alcohol either-

The posts about jc wanting to raise sizhui as his own doesn't only frustrates me but it is also hilarious cuz this man can't even raise jin ling without being physically and verbally abusive, he seethes at the very mention of a wen and you think he will raise wen yuan as his own cuz he like a son to wei wuxian so by your logic he is sizhui's 'uncle' now.
What a cruel joke are playing on a child whose whole family got slaughtered by the very seige lead by jiang cheng and the levels of suffering his Xian gege had to go through cuz of jc. Sizhui is polite but that doesn't mean he would tolerate someone like jc.

I don't consider this scenario canon, in fact it explicitly ISN'T, but... a Meng Yao who is actually a year OLDER than Zixuan but realises after being thrown down the stairs that being a threat to his half-brother's inheritance would not only dash all his chances of acceptance but probably get him killed if the wrong people in lanling found out. So he uses his baby face to pretend he's 2 years younger than he actually is, a year younger than Zixuan instead of older. (Jin Guangshan genuinely forgot when he slept with Meng Shi so he buys the lie)
I mean just... secret true heir of lanling Meng Yao and no one except he knows it. What a concept.

Let's get this straight.
If I discuss JC's canon negative traits from the novel, that is not 'character bashing' nor does it make me a JC 'anti'.
It's not my fault his canon traits are mostly negative. It is simply how he is in the book.

i wonder how mxtx would feel about me completely feminizing and yassifying pei ming and jiang cheng, who are supposed to be straight as a ruler and very annoying about it.

not sure how to phrase this but something i have been ruminating on recently is that xue yang is strangely fragile. obviously he is also incredibly resilient. he survived, and continues to survive, impossible things. he has a million barriers between himself and the world, but none of this actually matters when it comes to what he feels. everything is personal to him. everything pierces straight through all that armor and goes right to his battered heart, the heart that no one else believes he has. that even he is not fully cognizant of. the world strikes and strikes and strikes and so he strikes and strikes and strikes back, even (especially) when the wound is something other people would not think worthy of retribution.
xue yang would never realize this- would be outraged at the concept of it- but the way everything, everything is something to rally a defense against is in itself a form of fragility. he does not know how to let go of things, or let them pass him by. passivity is death. so he is ruthlessly cruel and violent. he projects himself as a lunatic untouchable by anything you might possibly do to him, and on some level he even believes this. but in actuality he is one raw emotional wound. he never learned to separate himself from his emotions, much less process them. the volatility is not so much insanity as it is the constant lashing out of an animal in a trap, and the trap is the world, and the trap is himself, and he is never going to get out. and like so much else, this pain is just part of the background radiation of his life. it hardly registers. to be able to register the hurt, you would have to be able to register a time in which you were not hurt.
i feel like it is a fragility that could blossom into such tenderness, given exactly the right set of circumstances. how at the very first touch of softness in his life he fell into a domesticity from which he never recovered. how much was there, still, to be salvaged from the cruelty. on some level i am always thinking about the little apple bunnies. about the meal for daozhang and the straw in a-qing's bed.
it was too little, too late. it shattered like glass when the world intruded back in. but the tenderness was there. no one, least of all xue yang, knows what might have happened had it been unearthed in him any sooner.
#he is easy to hurt. this is a fact. it is also anathema to his own self conception as well as the model of him in anyone elses minds.#xue yang#yi city#mdzs#aphelion.txt#xy#Contact is crisis; every touch is a modified blow#<- xycore anne carson quote. if you even care#meta#i guess? idk#it is always character analysis hour in my head#with a disclaimer that whether or not someone experiences empathy is NOT correlated to their morality#i dont think its necessarily that xy is incapable of empathy it's that any empathy that might exist in him is deeply deeply repressed#bc he views it as a death warrant. he (at every moment in his head and really quite often in reality) is on trial for his life#and it would be suicidal to give a shit about anyone who is not him.#especially since he knows- down to his bones- that no one is ever going to give a shit about him EXCEPT FOR him#the one chance he ever got to escape this cycle of brutality came with an expiration date built in by consequence of his past atrocities#and he only first started to comprehend anything about his own emotions after it was all already irrevocably fucked#in canon he is doomed. in fandom i am always picking him up and putting him somewhere kinder#shakes you by the shoulders do you understand what he does to me. do you. do you#if you tell me im excusing his crimes i will kill you w my lazer beam.#this isnt ABOUT THAT. this is ME BEING UNHINGED ABT HIS PSYCHOLOGY in a moral vaccuum.#i'm not saying 'hes sensitive uwu' but like i kind of am. unfortunately it mostly just motivates him to murder people#OH and when i connect the fragility to the tenderness i dont mean that i believe hes like. secretly soft#i mean that being as he is so deeply impacted by people's slights against him. he is just as deeply impacted by people's kindnesses#and he's not incapable of reciprocating it. he is INCREDIBLY fucking bad at it. but not incapable#ok i have to post this before i feel compelled to ramble any longer in the tags. jesus#got consumed by my a-yang feelings on a sunday morning sorry#not sure why i worded it as 'continues to survive' other than a constant subconscious denial that xue yang is dead

Modern mdzs character headcanons
The Lans
Lan Qiren absolutely keeps a Burn Book. He uses it to keep records of every misdemeanour. Of every transgression. He has an entire chapter dedicated to Wei Wuxian.
Lan Xichen keeps a hidden stash of hard candies in his room. He likes to suck on them when he meditates.
Lan Wangji records his guqin playing and listens to it on his airpods when he's practising his sword techniques.
Lan Sizhui likes to sketch people. When he has a few free moments, he will find a spot, either in a park or a bench on a street, and will pull out his sketch pad and pencils and discreetly sketch people's expressions.
Lan Jingyi is a gamer. He plays games like Horizon: Zero Dawn; Yakuza; Minecraft; Kingdom Hearts. All his games (including his ps4 console) are hand-me-downs from an older cousin. He has a page or two in Lan Qiren's Burn Book.
Other sects under the cut ⬇️
The Jins
Jin Guangyao is a philanthropist. When he's not busy being the Chief Cultivator, he likes to (anonymously) donate huge swathes of money to various humanitarian and environmental causes. The only people who know he does this are Lan Xichen and Jin Ling.
An unfortunate accident (involving Wei Wuxian) left Jin Zixuan paralysed from the waist down. He competed in Para canoe in two Paralympics. He is now an editor of a publishing company.
Qin Su did not marry Jin Guangyao. (From an early age, she knew that their relationship was that of siblings.) She owns and manages a law firm that helps victims of sexual assault. Her firm has a high success rate.
A few times a month, Jin Ling helps out at a local dog shelter. He takes Fairy, and together, they help socialise some of the more timid dogs. Jin Ling prefers animals over people.
The Jiangs
Jiang Cheng is a bit of a tea connoisseur. When he's not busy managing his Sect, he likes to unwind with a pot of tea. He has sampled teas from all over the world and has a pantry full of jars of all sorts of teas.
Jiang Yanli is a successful cook/chef who owns her own restaurant and who has her own TV show and cookbook. Her husband, Jin Zixuan, edited and helped fast track the publication of her book.
Wei Wuxian loves eating chilli chocolate. To the point where he makes his own and experiments with the heat of the chilli.
The Wens
Wen Qing owns three cats. One munchkin and two rescues. Her house has been decked out with shelves, ladders, platforms, and scratching trees. She has an entire room dedicated to the cats with an indoor jungle gym.
Wen Ning likes travelling. He's been to over a dozen or so countries and plans to go to more. It was Wei Wuxian who got him into travelling.
The Nies
Nie Huaisang runs an art blog (as well as a few social media pages). As well as his art, he posts pictures of his pet birds as well as any wild birds he sees. His artworks are phenomenal, with a nod to more traditional styles. He has thousands of followers.
Despite his tough exterior, Nie Mingjue has sensitive taste buds and can't handle food that is too spicy, too sweet, or too hot in temperature.

seeing all these posts in canon jc tag saying how jc did better than madam yu ... pretty sure madam yu never hit jc (did she? if im wrong tell me xd but still he'd be the same if she did cuz he hits jin ling in anger multiple times), or expose him to herself torturing innocent people to death so much that jc would be used to smuggling them out... yea jin ling and his relationship turned out better no thanks to him tho, jin ling got lucky to be more jin than jiang tbh cuz majority of his time would be at the sect he's heir of and jc does love jin ling unconditionally but madam yu in all her abusive glory also loved jc unconditionally, like jc was willing to die for jin ling, madam yu was willing to die for him too, that aint undoing the harm the two adults ended up doing to the two kids in the scenario at least in the emotional sense, and aint no way ppl are saying hes doing better than her, hes at least on the same level in lack of affection cuz jin ling was so unused to being even hugged or how to handle a hug the barest of affections jin ling turned out better and grew purely on his own effort coz jc sure wasnt setting any positive examples for him-
It seems to be implied that Madam Yu herself has no issue getting physically harsh with either of her own children as well,
1:
Madam Yu sent a look at Jiang Cheng. “Horsing around again? Come, let me have a look at you.”
Jiang Cheng scurried over, and Madam Yu squeezed his arm with her slender fingers before giving him a sound slap on the shoulder.
"Not a bit of progress in your cultivation. You’re almost seventeen and still acting like an ignorant child! Running around with this lot, doing mischief all day—do you think you’re the same as them? Hell knows which gutters they’ll be crawling in in the future, but you’ll be the leader of the Jiang Clan!”
Jiang Cheng staggered from the force of her slap. He hung his head, not daring to argue back.
2:
"Sorry!” said Wei Wuxian loudly. “I didn’t know shijie would come! I’ll go look for my clothes right now!”
Madam Yu was even more incensed. “You dare run from me?! Get the hell back here and kneel!”
As she spoke, she cracked her whip. A searing pain spread down Wei Wuxian’s back.
"Yowch!” he exclaimed aloud. The pain was so intense it almost sent him rolling on the ground.
Just then, Madam Yu heard a soft voice ask, “Mom, do you want some watermelon…?”
Jiang Yanli’s sudden appearance startled Madam Yu. With this delay, the group of little brats had vanished without a trace. Madam Yu was so infuriated she turned to pinch Jiang Yanli’s cheeks.
Eat, eat, eat. That’s all you know!”
The pinch made Jiang Yanli’s eyes water. Vaguely, she said, “Mom. A-Xian and the rest were hiding here to cool off. I came looking for them on my own, so don’t blame them… Do…do you want some watermelons…? I don’t know who sent them over, but they’re very sweet. Eating watermelon in summer can relieve the heat and quench your fire. They’re sweet and juicy. I’ll slice some for you…”
Violence seems to be an unfortunate overarching theme regarding the Jiang Family and how they exhibit any emotional behavior. Madam Yu each time she is on page is the main instigator of physical punishments and pain out of anger, Jiang Cheng seeing her as his own role model follows this same pattern with Jin Ling. The above passage of Madam Yu'a introduction as a parental figure and Jiang Cheng is terribly similar to what we get for Jiang Cheng's introduction as Jin Ling's uncle and a caretaker,
"Since Hanguang-jun wants to punish you, take the lesson this once. It’s not easy for him, either, to manage the juniors from another clan.”
His tone was sarcastic, but it was unclear to whom it was directed. Lan Wangji, who never responded to such provocation, ignored him.
Jiang Cheng turned, his voice scathing. “What are you standing around for? Waiting for the prey to run into your sword itself? If you can’t catch the creature here on Mount Dafan tonight, then you needn’t come to me again in the future!"
And to answer the main point of your ask, no, Jiang Cheng is not any better towards Jin Ling and how he treats him. He treats him exactly as Madam Yu did with Jiang Cheng. With cruel ever changing expectations that were too high for a child to ever be reasonably expected to achieve without help or the care that should have been exhibited to raise a confident child. Jiang Cheng took the role of his mother in all ways and superimposed his life onto Jin Ling as well. Generational trauma is not always easy to of course pick up when you have grown within that environment. Yes you may know something is not "normal" as you interact with others but it's hard to name or describe why. Jiang Cheng thought of his mother respectfully despite her own many flaws, generational deference is difficult to question when that is all you have known until you are in a better environment to explore and comfortably learn despite being less than grand in execution. Jiang Cheng did not get that chance in life, but he does finally let Jin Ling have that as Jin Ling seeks out Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji for nighthunts to learn from.
Unconditional love isn't always a saving grace, and that is an unfortunate reality of life that not all love is always good or healthy despite how very much you love them or each other. Unconditional love can be selfish cruel and hurtful in the ways that people choose to express it when they don't want to be better for their loved ones. The play of trauma and victim blaming is terrible when you are both the abuser and victim and continue that cycle.
The only thing that Jiang Cheng "did better" than Madam Yu, was living to let go of his hates and insecurities enough to stop imposing them on to Jin Ling as well so the child could grow better and with actual role models that encourage a nurturing non-mocking environment first and foremost.
