Archaeologists working on the site of ancient Heliopolis (in the working-class district of Matareya, to the north of modern Heliopolis) discovered a mammoth 8m bust and head of a statue submerged in the mud. First thought to be a statue of Ramses II, the discovery made headlines around the world. Later on, after the colossus had been excavated, archaeologists corrected their initial assumptions and thought the statue more probable to depict 26th-dynasty ruler Psammetich I (664–610 BC). If so, it will be the largest Late Period statue ever found. Let me start off by saying THIS IS HIGHLY DISPUTED. Russell Burrows in 1982 claimed to have found Afrocentric artifacts inside of Burrows Cave near the monks mound.. It has been highly disputed some say these are from the olmecs because they had contact with them, some say these are completely fake, and we also know that they were tampered with to up the price during auction. Nonetheless this information is interesting. Inside the "Kings Chamber". Hmm, it feels and looks more like a meditation chamber. The acoustical properties are striking. Seems intentionally designed for entering into a trance/dream state. Ajaccio to Bonafacio

We set off on a lovely sunny morning for the trip to Bonafacio.While on the coach we discussed the fact that while it was disappointing to have the cool and damp yesterday, we were lucky that the weather improved while we were in the National reserve and looking at the fabulous rock formations and we also saw the eagle osprey and dolphins. Our wonderful driver , Pasquale took us along the longer coastal route to Filitosa and we saw some fabulous scenery of the coast.Filitosa , the megalithicsite and its stone warriors was very interesting. We then made our way to Sartene, a lovely hilltop granite town which dates back to medieval times where we had a lovely lunch in the main square before visiting the fabulous museum. Again we had super scenery on the journey to Bonafacio , our base for the next two nights. Our hotel is situated at the top of the town above the port in the old citadel and is next to the buildings which housed the French Foreign Legion. The town is different to the other places we have visited as this area is all limestone compared with granite . We can se Sardinia which is only 12 Km away A lovely group dinner finished off a wonderful day. I think we are all impressed with the beauty of Corsica, the beautiful bays/ gulfs protected by the watchtowers, the snow capped mountains and stony ridges and lush vegetation

Geological surveys have dated parts of the Padang Pyramid to as old as 20,000 BC.
