Kaz didn't have siblings by blood back home, but his adoptive family did have multiple other kids. All of which Kaz was not at all close to. Growing up it had become painfully obvious that he was just... on his own plane of existence, and his quote unquote siblings had so easily given up on trying to share their lives with Kaz. Not only that but they had never been there for him. Not during school when he started getting into fights because of the way people treated him, not when they were out together and people on the street would curse at him. They were never there for him.

The way those kids just sat back and let Kaz get berated and assaulted on the daily made it so fucking hard to give Noel a chance when he first arrived. Even now, Kaz struggled to show that he cares about Noel just the same, in fear that one day Noel is going to turn his back on him. Just like everyone else did. But right now, seeing his brother's face through blurry vision, and hearing his voice through what sounds like tons of water, he remembers seeing Noel's name in his phone. Whether he had called or texted his brother, the strung out goth doesn't know, but he was actually thankful to see him. After the initial worry of Noel seeing him in a state where words could barely escape open lips, Kaz found himself falling into his brother after he had uttered those words. Noel would bring him back. He'd be okay and he was okay. Because his brother wouldn't let him get hurt. For once in his life, even though it took a few bumps of special k, Kaz let himself put all his trust in his brother as he loses consciousness in his arms; slurring the smallest 'thank you'.

It was a comfortable silence they had, and normally when Maxim spoke, it was mostly to himself so Tau only ever responded in soft smiles or single words. This time though, Tau felt the need to respond. maybe the words uttered by Maxim had given him too much interest on what could possibly be so stupid. Or maybe it was just in his nature to be curious without lifting from his book he responds, languid and gentle his words flow from his table to Maxim’s. “What could you possibly do in this current moment that will be truly that stupid?”

Kaz raises an eyebrow as he wipes his hands together to get the dirt off of them now that he holds a little jar of moss samples he's been picking from around Mount Phoenix. "And what reputation is that?" The words probably came out a little harsh since his default is pretty monotone and not laced with friendliness, but he was curious. There could be a few options of reputation for someone who didn't know him to decide, it also depended on where they've possible known him from. SF, LA, or here. Using his thumb to press the cork top into the little glass bottle he now slips into his pocket, Kaz crosses his arms while entertaining the conversation that had just... sparked out of nowhere. Curious and curiouser.
