The Prime Minister's Assistant Marius/Daniel - Explicit - 4224 words
This is something I started writing an eternity ago and then I got distracted with other projects and forgot about it. But I've been thinking a lot about Court lately and also how sexy Marius is in a suit (and a position of authority) and so I decided to finish this.
It's Court Shenanigans at their finest. Armand leaves to spend a few weeks in Paris with Louis, so Daniel is going to spend that time helping Marius out around Court. It doesn't take long for work to turn into... more fun activities.
Very short excerpt:
Daniel arrived at Marius’ office, a large room lined with heavy wooden shelves, and a red velvet chaise against the wall near the door. Marius’ desk was in the center and the surface was immaculate and clear of anything but the single file he had open in front of him and a small pile in a basket on the far corner.
Marius sat behind the desk. Daniel looked him over appreciatively, a little heat creeping into his cheeks as he did. Marius was wearing an expertly tailored gray suit, his long blond hair cascading down around his face. He had angular, sharp features and a strong jaw. He was always handsome as hell but the suit was doing good things for him. It was almost sinful how good. It showed off his shoulders and the color was good on him.
“Nice suit,” Daniel said.
Marius looked down automatically and then back up. “Thank you. It was made by a tailor Armand recommended.”
“You know, it would look even better being torn off of you.” Daniel waggled his eyebrows in a joking manner but if Marius wanted, he was more than happy to close the door and make a mess of this pristine office.
“Very funny.” Marius frowned, but Daniel caught a spark of something in his eyes. “You look quite dashing yourself. Did Armand pick your tie? It brings out your eyes.”
“Yeah,” Daniel said, not bothering to mention that Armand had picked the whole outfit. He dropped into one of the chairs in front of Marius’ desk. “So, what do you need me to do, Mr. Prime Minister?”
Marius got up. Daniel admired the way the suit moved on him as he pulled down a binder from a shelf and handed it to him. “These are the newest arrivals at Court. We need to get them identification documents which can be set up in the records office.”
“There’s a records office?” Daniel whistled. “You really have thought of everything.”

Daniel: So this "Farm" thing, what is it really? A setup like in Blade 3 with humans in body bags, waiting to get drained?
Louis: Daniel!
Armand: The Farm is an elite school for underprivileged youth we run. They recieve a full scholarship to higher education too, and all they have to do is donate blood for 'medical research' once a month.
Louis: Seriously, Daniel, how could you ever think something so sinister?
Armand: What do you take us for, monsters?!
Daniel Molloy:

Symbolism & Foreshadowing: Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion (1944) by Francis Bacon
Bacon had painted for years before he painted the very work displayed here in the show. After painting this work, he then insisted that none of his other previous works counted, and that this triptych should be considered his origin story. He tried to rewrite his own history. Art critics mostly let him get away with it too.
Very interesting that they have this work, the first “true” work in the artist’s own revisionist history of his own life. This artist is famous for paintings in series but the choice of a triptych (3) than any other number is suggestive. It’s a triptych of living figures, too.
The figures are inspired in part by the Furies, who would (either as a function of revenge or justice) brutally kill transgressive murderers for crimes such as matricide and patricide.
Other fun facts about Bacon:
- gay, and went from being the younger, dominated partner to being the older and more dominant partner
- Irish
- history of substance abuse
- obsessed with painting mouths
- people would call his work horror, but he couldn’t understand why
- once got such a bad crush (his word) on a painting that he couldn’t bring himself to visit it in person
- canonically attracted to his own father

Genuinely trying to figure out if Daniel's conversation with Justin Kirk is taking place outside the penthouse (meaning Daniel is, at some point, able to escape without getting vamp'ed) -- or if this is in the penthouse and Justin Kirk is someone Louis/Armand would allow to visit.
It might be the former (it looks like there's two other people in the background, who don't look like Armand/Louis) -- but him saying "I want to get out alive" feels odd if he's already made it out. If it's the latter, that raises the question of who, exactly, would be allowed in to talk to Daniel, because I have THEORIES.

listening to Pulitzer Prize-winning poet extraordinaire one Kendrick Lamar while scrolling through the IWTV tag is an Experience bc you will be minding your own business and then it's like. 'psst. i see dead people' while Louis is lying to Daniel about not being schizophrenic. 'the family matter and the truth of the matter it was God's Plan to show y'all the liar' and Daniel's bringing out the original annotated copy of Armand's 'imagine Louis without the burden of Claudia' script. 'sometimes you gotta pop out and show niggas' Louis literally pops out of the manhole behind Santiago. 'wop wop wop wop wop Dot fuck em up' here we have a nicely Armand sized hole in the wall. Armand is on the floor. Armand is on the floor bc Louis has thrown him into the wall. 'you think the Bay gon' let you disrespect Pac nigga? i think that Oakland show gon' be your last stop nigga' there is Louis' boot on Santiago's (severed) head and let him try and talk about Claudia again with that mouth that bitch ass hoe. 'the audience not dumb shape the stories how you want hey Drake they're not slow / rabbit hole is still deep i can go further i promise' through the telepathic vampire link this is playing from a certain vampire's iPad in NOLA while Armand attempts boba tea eyes at maximum damage to fix the marriage that is crumbling before his eyes. Daniel is the bitchiest smugest little reporter you've ever seen watching his divorce attorney work unfold hey hey hey hey run for your life

if either louis or daniel had a single friend between them they would have figured out about armand's duplicitous manipulation of their memories years ago. it's called a girl's night and the pair just shared one together with their bare tootsies steeped in a sophisticated little indoor pebble garden

Not everyone believes Armand was really going to leave Louis in 1973. I do.
Louis is an addict--an addict who won't help himself. And people discount the position that puts Armand in.
Louis routinely gives someone drugs, fucks them, and drains them to get high. Armand comes in after, with Louis on whatever drugs he gave his guest, and cleans up so no one catches them. Louis apologizes at some point, but keeps doing it. Over and over. While Armand does the grunt work of erasing the consequences of his actions.
Reread that last sentence. Remember what that's called?
Yeah. Enabling.
But what happens if Armand doesn't enable Louis? In Armand's view, they get caught, vampires are outed to the world, there's a war or something.
Rock, hard place, and Armand in-between.
So Armand, as always, like his maker before him, accepts a thankless job he doesn't want for a greater good no one else seems to serve. Days in, pains shooting up the neck and down the forehead and behind the eyes, days out, you feel like you've been drop-kicked between the shoulder blades as the stress takes a very real physical toll. He dumps the bodies and carries Louis home, bearing the insults, telling himself it's just the drugs talking. Louis says he's sorry after he sobers up, only to turn around and do it again.
And as soon as Armand starts to cave and throw the insults back, Louis hurts himself worse than he's ever been hurt since he was with Lestat. As a direct consequence of Armand finally losing his temper over the entire shitty situation. Armand isn't even allowed to show his anger to the only person in his life. He just has to swallow it all.
But Louis is hurt now. That means more work than ever, 24/7 round-the-clock caretaking, along with finding the time to hunt to replenish the blood Louis is taking from him. Because even Armand's powerful blood can't heal Louis very quickly (given it took Marius about a century to recover from being set on fire even when he was drinking directly from Akasha herself). It apparently helps with the pain, though, so at least he can settle down for a bit. Get some sleep while Armand hunts.
But when Louis wakes up for the first time, who does he ask after?
The boy.
The fascinating boy.
And there's finally someone Armand can take his anger out on. Someone he doesn't love. And since when does Armand get angry at the person who actually did the wrong? He's the patron saint of misplaced anger.
We see him hesitate to take care of Louis when he's called for. Louis is crying out in pain--pain he caused himself. A consequence of his own actions. Armand seems torn between a desire to stop enabling, and compassion for someone he loves.
It finally seems to hit Armand that this is his existence for the foreseeable future.
"Am I going to be on suicide watch for the next thousand years?"
No, I don't think he intended to stay. I think he looks both hopeful and crushed when Louis extends just enough of an olive branch to make Armand want to keep trying to make it work. But making it work means working. It means accepting he'll never be as important as the last person who hurt Louis this badly.
But drifting away aimlessly means being alone, and unneeded. Surely being needed is better than nothing, even if he can't be loved.
Even if it means he lives in a world where even a sober, humbled Louis is more concerned about the wellbeing of a virtual stranger than that of Armand.

Ive seen some people debating whether Daniel still has some Parkinson's symptoms or if Lestat was just making him cough with his vampire powers but I feel like it could pretty easily be both. Our only other reference point for something like this was when Louis was making his hand shake which seemed to be him triggering Daniel's Parkinson's rather than just puppeting his arm around. So if Daniel does still have some chronic illness symptoms it makes sense that Lestat could temporarily aggravate them. Otherwise I feel like Lestat would just like. Glue Daniel's mouth shut lol.

in the 92Y interview, Rolin said episode 5 would answer why one of these characters needed the second interview, and episode 8 is why the other one needed the second interview.
So. Having seen 5 now, that answers why Daniel needed it, yes? And now we wait til 8 to see why Louis needed it?

These are Vampires!!! Why the fuck are ya'll acting like this. Bitching and crying about liking 1 bad guy over the other? Why does it matter?! Who cares if Armand erased Louis memories! Louis is a fucking seriel killer! They are all bad people with trauma who take it out on each other. Stop trying to find a "good guy" in a story told by monsters. Also I'm getting really fucking tired of ya'll bringing that babygirl shit into a relationship with two grown ass men, you bitches are weird.

Looking at daniels notes and i am really taken with "Does louis enforce this kind of language?". just obsessed with the idea that for a moment he thought louis was just making Rashid/Armand and probably whoever else works for him speak like this. One of the job requirements for working for louis de pointe du lac is you have to adapt to his vocabulary and way of speaking and say shit like electronic mailbox lest you get eaten for lunch.

Why I Think The Season 2 Finale Is Gonna Be Even Rougher Than We Anticipate
Something I am increasingly worried about as we approach the Interview with the Vampire season finale:
What if Louis knows that he doesn't know everything? What if that's what he prefers?
Tumblr media
Most of the audience suspects Armand was involved in the trial. Daniel definitely does. There's clues already there that this is the case. I've seen chatter online about how next week will, presumably, be when Louis realizes the truth and splits with Armand.
...however. When Louis confronts Armand about his memories of 1973, Armand tells him Louis asked him to erase them. Louis initially pushes back, but seems to accept this.
Except: why would you ever accept that as an explanation -- unless you knew that it's something you would do? Or possibly even something you'd done already?
Tumblr media
Armand, as suspicious as he is, has been laying some groundwork that Louis is deliberately taking part in altering his own memories: "The pages we tore out of Claudia's diaries -- we did most of those together!" Which Louis seems to confirm is true.
I think part of the issue is that Louis' evasiveness is being attributed to a desire to protect Armand & continue seeing him as the love of his life. And it may be true to some extent. But also -- I think it's at least partly to protect Louis from the weight of his own guilt over Claudia's death.
Because if Armand is guilty -- if he has been plainly, obviously guilty for decades, if Daniel can catch it from third-hand evidence 70 years later -- and it happened because he wanted to have Louis to himself, how do you even process that? How do you handle knowing that Claudia died a horrific death because of a romance she herself called you out on? After she told you that this man threatened her and you denied it?
Tumblr media
Hell, how do you process it when she's condemned by testimony from someone you failed to kill? When Louis tries to convince Daniel that he really did intent to kill Lestat, that Claudia was the one who couldn't burn him, is it because he can't handle feeling responsible for Lestat being alive to testify against her?
Truthfully, I wouldn't really blame Louis for not being able to handle that level of guilt, and we know he winds up spending several years draining drug addicts as a coping method before ultimately attempting suicide. Being able to forget all of it, and forget that you'd forgotten them, would be appealing. (And I think it's noteworthy that Louis only seems to be willing to question Armand about his memories of 1973, which occurred well after Claudia died.)
That said: I have concerns about what this is going to mean for present-day Dubai.
Tumblr media
Daniel clearly can tell something is up and is gunning to dig in. But Louis keeps shutting him down hard. ("Armand sold you out-..." "I'm talking now.")
We also have seen what happens when Daniel digs into something that Louis really doesn't want to talk about. When he asks for Claudia's missing pages, Louis deliberately seems to trigger his Parkinson's. When Daniel makes comments about Lestat's letter, Louis starts digging into Daniel's memories of Alice (which also seems to worsen Daniel's tremors, though that may not be deliberate).
So what happens if he starts pushing in on something that Louis has gone to great, deliberate lengths to forget about? Something that ties into the worst event of Louis' life, something he still feels tremendous guilt over?
Tumblr media
Raglan James' line about "You fear Armand. You should fear the other one" feels like a shoe that hasn't been dropped yet. I've been pretty steadily predicting that Daniel is going to have some sort of massive medical issue in the penthouse, but I'm slowly wondering if Louis may be what triggers it (possibly by accident). Hell, I even kind of wonder if Armand suspects something like this could happen, which is part of why he's been so adamant about always being nearby, cosplaying as Rashid so he can run in whenever Louis gets upset.
I don't know, I would love for the finale to be as easy and simple as "Daniel helps Louis see that Armand is guilty, Louis dumps Armand". But this show has never been about easy, simple situations so I suspect we're in for a rough time.
