Sun and Mercury:

Sun and Mercury are both centered around intelligence but in different ways; they complete each other. Sun is about divine knowledge and Mercury is about conveying, transmitting or communicating that knowledge or even perhaps analyzing it and extracting more wisdom as well as detail from it so I found this point particularly interesting. Sun illuminates with its rays and gives clarity by providing us with the truth and then Mercury expands on that truth and shares it with others in its charming versatile way as well

Sun vs Mercury sign:

Mercury does not move further than 28 degrees from the Sun meaning that the Mercury sign will always be the sign before or after the Sun sign (zodiacal signs are divided into 30 degrees) and so there is a bit of a differentiation (for lack of a better word) between who we are and the way we communicate and exchange information with other people if the Mercury and Sun signs are not one of the same. First example that comes to mind is having an Aries Sun Taurus Mercury and two people who are quite close to me have these placements; you would not know they were Aries Suns unless u asked hahaha even though one of them is an Aries rising too so that is something I wanted to note as well. Another example would be Sagittarius sun with Scorpio Mercury adding a lot of intensity to the person's communication style as well (which is something I relate to as you will see later on)

Domicile and exaltation:

Sooo Mercury rules over Gemini and Virgo so those are its domicile signs, it is how Mercury can manifest itself most comfortably whilst embodying its true essence. And then Mercury has its exaltation in Virgo as well which is pretty unique might I say and this gives me the vibes of (this my own way of seeing it so take it with a grain of salt) Mercury being more constructive in the sign of Virgo versus in Gemini just because of this particular distinction

But speaking of these two signs I do think they embody their Mercurial energies quite differently and shoutout to my friend @saturnianoracle for giving me the key words to describe this. First of all they are both analytic but Virgo is more of a skeptic I feel while Gemini tends to have more of an open mind. Virgo wants to see the evidence behind certain things to determine the merit or validity, to a certain extent, of the topics at hand to then decides if it wants to invest energy into looking into it more. It is very grounded as well as organized. With Gemini there is a certain sense of childlike curiosity that takes hold of this sign making it want to explore deep topics and of course stimulate its mind; it dives in without thinking and is more disorganized, inconsistent and chaotic I would say, and it loves conversing about its findings as well. I saw a tiktok video ancient astrology based describing Virgo and Gemini as the most intuitive signs which was fascinating to be honest u can watch it here

Detriment and Fall:

Mercury has its detriment in Sagittarius/Pisces and its fall in the sign of Pisces as well and the interesting thing noted in the video I watched (mentioned at the start) is that Sagittarius and Pisces are ruled by Jupiter, the biggest planet ruling over expansion and abundance, and with Mercury being on the smaller side you can really see that distinction of the Mercurial signs really often looking at the detail of things and well in contrast the Jupiter signs seeing the bigger picture. Also Jupiter being a benefic and ruling over luck makes me think that having these two placements is honestly not so bad tbh

Mercury in first house:

Mercury has its planetary joy in the first house of the self, highlighting the utmost importance of the curious, inquisitive and messenger qualities of the planet. What is interesting is the neutrality of Mercury and how we can link that with its joy being in the 1st house; a house that can be above or below the horizon, so even in this regard it stays neutral and does not "pick a side" if that makes sense; "acting as a bridge between the upper and lower hemispheres of the chart, a bridge between the celestial and terrestial realms which are united in the degree of the ascendant".

Neutrality:

Mercury is not seen as a benefic or a malefic; it is considered a neutral planet. Of course, its manifestation and expression can be positive, negative or stay neutral depending on a few factors, such as:

Being in its domicile (Gemini/Virgo) or its exaltation (Virgo) sign is gonna lead it to manifest in a more constructive/beneficial way

Being in its detriment (Sagittarius/Pisces) or its fall (Pisces) sign would generally lead it to manifest in a less constructive way

Aspecting a benefic planet (Jupiter/Venus) would lead Mercury in this instance to manifest in a more constructive way as it is said to adopt the traits of benefic planet it is associated with

Being in a benefic ruled sign; meaning a Jupiter ruled sign as mentioned beforehand (Sagittarius Mercury, Pisces Mercury) or a Venus ruled sign (Taurus Mercury, Libra Mercury) would manifest in the same manner mentioned above

Aspecting a malefic planet (Mars/Saturn) leads Mercury to take on the traits of that malefic planet as well

Being in a malefic ruled sign so either Mars ruled (Aries Mercury, Scorpio Mercury) or Saturn ruled (Capricorn Mercury, Aquarius Mercury) leads us to Mercury adapting to that malefic's traits again

Triplicity also matters and I will make a detailed post on it soon but for now all I can say is that having Mercury in an air sign (Gemini, Aquarius, or Libra) adds on to the "power" that the Mercury placement has within the chart and the support that it gives to the native; if we are dealing with a day chart then Mercury has moderate support in the air sign in question (Saturn being its triplicity lord), and if it is a night chart then it maintains a powerful position within the chart, being its own triplicity ruler. Mars in the 1st House People with Mars in their 1st house often struggle with anxiety or anger issues. They might even have a noticeable scar on their face. This placement can make them really energetic, but sometimes that energy comes out as irritation or restlessness.

Pluto in the 1st House Natives with Pluto in their 1st house usually go through intense transformations—both in their appearance and in their overall character. Mercury in the 2nd/3rd House If Mercury in 2nd doesn’t have many hard aspects, these folks usually have a beautiful speaking voice. Venus–Pluto Conjunction A Venus–Pluto conjunction tends to create a really obsessive streak when it comes to romantic relationships—or it can attract obsessive partners. Sometimes it’s both! These individuals definitely know how to pull their partners back in, no matter how far they stray, lol.

Mars in the 7th House Mars in the 7th house can lead to frequent arguments with romantic partners. The nature of the fights often depends on the sign Mars is in. Astro notes ~ part 2

Venus in Aries women tend to be called not feminine enough and could be criticised for the way they move or speak. “Not feminine enough” is something they likely heard at least a few times.

Earth Ascendants tend to put too much pressure on themselves and value responsibility. They may come off as cold and unapproachable without meaning too. They dislike or look down on chaotic and unreliable people.

Sun in Pisces are some of the most trustworthy and kind people I’ve ever met. They are sensible, thoughtful and make great friends.

Sun in Aquarius could be both clingy and distant. It really depends on the person in question and their current emotional well-being. They are known to struggle with recognising or processing their own feelings. The higher manifestation of this placement might actually spend more time by themselves as they realise this is what they truly need or they might just become more independent in general. It’s a funny thing with Aquarius. It’s when they are most chill and just doing their own thing that they attract the most attention. If they try too hard to keep a relationship, they almost always lose it. It mostly could be related to a shaky self of self-identity.

Saturn in 3rd house could bring difficulties in communication. Either you stumble over your words, speak too much or too little or just feel like you cannot find common conversation topics with other people. Moon in Capricorn: when will you stop denying and over-rationalising your own feelings? Being vulnerable and expressing your feelings is not a weakness as society seems to want to teach us. It takes an enormous amount of courage and strength. It’s about being your authentic self with all of its gifts and imperfections. It will not make you exploitable or create unnecessary drama/conflict. But rather it will open your eyes to truths that may currently be hidden from you. In any relationship, especially personal, emotional compatibility is essential. If you keep being polite and inauthentic you’ll never feel truly fulfilled or find the people who are right for you.

Also, stop being so hard on yourself for every little detail. Allowing yourself to relax and take a break once in a while is important for your mental, emotional and physical well-being. It may also enable you to see different situations more clearly.

Mercury in Virgo: you are amazingly patient and definitely notice the “smaller print”. You might be good at making diagrams, charts, tables. You probably don’t make mistakes when doing calculations and might have a real affinity for the exact sciences. You know how to explain things in simple, concrete and very understandable terms. You know lots of things and are very willing to share them with others. Careful not to come off as a know-it-all and watch out for your nit-picking tendencies.

Neptune in 1st house: is actually a quite interesting placement. People probably tend to project on you a lot. They might have completely false ideas about you and believe them with conviction even when you consistently convince them otherwise. Be very attentive of those you surround yourself with! Sometimes the kindest acts hide the darkest pits of hell.

This placement gives a charming, sometimes ethereal appearance to the individual. There is a charming quality to the way you carry yourself, the manner in which you express your ideas. People could have hidden fantasies about you or idolise you.

Sagittarius Ascendant: talkative, sort of daring personality. If you don’t have many friends, the then you at least have a large circle of acquaintances. You like expressing your ideas, sometimes just to stir the waters. You’re up for fun and spontaneous activities. You like creative people. In social settings you tend to “fly” from one group of people to another as you enjoy exchanging news, ideas, impressions with other people. Gemini Ascendants: are the real masters of social situations. It’s not mentioned nearly enough just how good they can be at picking up on social cues. They might wisely not show it or even mention it later on, but you can be damn sure they didn’t miss a thing. Also, they are very flexible/adaptable communication wise. If you have a more subdued way of communication they’ll talk more softly and encouragingly. If you are loud and enthusiastic they will try appearing that way as well.

They pick up on the vibes of a room: main relationships between people, primary personality traits, attitudes, if someone has social anxiety etc. They probably also know about secret enemies and crushes but will pretend not to.

Look out for mind games and subtle shows of cunning from them. For example: if you are a heterosexual woman having a secret crush on a heterosexual man and he picks up on it, they might subtly do something to make you feel jealous. Or more blatantly. - With Neptune aspecting many planets - I found out that the native can have an affinity for photography/ art. - 3rd house stellium may overthink a lot, a lot if going on in their mind -3rd house Lilith are absolutely RUTHLESS, I have a friend with this placement, and it could be 8 am and she's already told me to k*ll myself 3 times. All in good humour though, these people's words are lethal. Funny enough she's a a Leo sun moon and libra rising - People don't talk how having Neptune in the 1st house is such a melancholic placement. I have it and my mum has it, I can't get a grasp on her at all and I don't think she understands me aswell. -You should definitely check your synastry with your parents. My mum's north node is conjunct my mars in cancer, and I was kinda an unexpected, and I forced her to evolve into a more kind and caring person. -Mercury conjunct MC - are seen as very intelligent. People who I have never talked to just assume that I'm very smart (which I am 😝)

🌶️ I've noticed that Saturn in 8th house people always end up having to give their hard earned Money to their in-laws, like they're never able to keep it and if not in-laws then they end up losing it in some other way.

🍵 Saturn in 10th house people usually have a very bad relationship with their fathers, I know so many people with this and it's true for all of them (tbf, their fathers deserve it, so I don't blame them). Whenever i visit them, their father will start fighting even when I'm present 🥲 like some parents atleast pretend to be on good terms in front of others, but theirs do not.

🌶️ On the other hand, moon in 9th house people are usually very close to their father. He may not always be emotionally present in their lives but they still have this desire to prove their worth to him. 🥀Planetary joys in Astrology

I briefly mentioned this in my Mercury post but I would like to talk about it more and clarify everything for u guys <3

The sources I used for this are the books Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune by Chris Brennan as well as The Astrologer's Encyclopedia + The Moon's Joy Astrology YouTube channels as well

So basically what the Planetary Joy scheme entails is that the planets manifest in the best or most constructive/productive/beneficial way when in a house they find their joy in, aka where they are most comfortable.

Daytime and nighttime planets (sect):

Here we will take into account the classification of the houses by above and below the horizon; as you can see, the houses from the 1st to the 6th house are below the horizon, and they are linked with both nighttime and an individual's inner world and his body, while the houses from the 7th to the 12th house are above the horizon; describing a certain relationship with daytime and the outer/ public world as well as the soul. This is a very generalized classification of the houses but I want you to take into account the nighttime and daytime terms that I have used.

According to sect, planets are assigned to two "teams"; the day sect and the night sect:

Meaning the Sun, Jupiter and Saturn are part of the day sect, and the Moon, Venus and Mars belong to the night sect. And Mercury is neutral.

Now go back to the first image. If you take a look, you will notice that the daytime planets find their joy in houses above the horizon, associated with daytime and public affairs, and that the nocturnal planets are more comfortable below the horizon; in the houses which relate more to nighttime and inner topics. And Mercury is in the 1st house because it is neutral and the 1st house can find itself above or below as well <3

Now I realize this is still quite general but now we have made the point of daytime planets being more constructive in houses above the horizon, and the nighttime planets being more productive in houses below. And this matches those planets' nature well, to be honest; come to think of it, why are certain planets associated with the day, and others considered nocturnal planets? Let us analyze for a moment.

I believe the luminaries are clear. Sun being a daytime planet and Moon belonging to the night "team" or sect is obvious. As for Mercury it is known for its duality and being like a messenger, of sorts. You know the sentence "don't shoot the messenger"? That describes Mercury's nature quite well. It does not pick a side and so stays neutral within the sect scheme. However we CAN find out more about if it is productive or not, based on the sign, house, aspects etc and I've already talked about this planet in length so check it out if u want.

I will be brief since I will be making a post on these upcoming planets anyway, but, Jupiter's nature is expansive, wise, optimistic and so in a day chart (meaning where the diurnal planets are more constructive) these positive qualities will be enhanced and yk under the sun. Conversely, Saturn is more cold and restrictive in its nature and so it needs a little warmth from the sun to loosen up and actually utilize that discipline without the hindrance of excessive limitations.

Now for the nocturnal planets, I would say Venus is very fitting; after all, it is all about harmony, comfort, love, intimacy and these themes are quite relevant to the nighttime because that is when we get to relax, have fun, be vulnerable etc it is more focalized on BEING rather growing, unlike its benefic counterpart, Jupiter. As for Mars, well, think of it like this: we are basically telling Saturn to get the fuck up and do the thing; cuz it's too restrictive. Mars is impulsive, so we tell it to go to bed and chill the fuck out. Hence why it does better in night charts and why Saturn does better in day charts <3

Triplicity rulers:

I have not quite grasped this particular point, to be honest. But I thought I should share anyway. Basically:

Fire triplicity rulers: Sun, Jupiter, Saturn

Earth triplicity rulers: Venus, Moon, Mars

Air triplicity rulers: Saturn, Mercury, Jupiter

Water triplicity rulers: Venus, Mars, Moon

Sun and Jupiter (Fire triplicity rulers) in their joy are close to the MC aka the Midheaven point; the highest point of the planetary path associated with the Fire element. Whereas Venus and the Moon (Earth triplicity rulers) at their joy are closer to lower region associated with the Earth element. Saturn and Mercury are associated with the rising sign or ascendant region, tied to the Air element since air "rises", and then finally Venus and Mars seem to be close to the setting place aka the descendant because water settles down and rests. I am not very philosophical 😅 and I definitely want too look into this more but yeah I thought I'd share this point. According to Chris this resembles Aristotle's doctrine of "natural place" aka the hierarchy of elements if u wanna look into it lol

Mercury in 1st house:

The 1st house, the starting point, the Helm (steering wheel of a ship/boat), the way we approach life and our very character. There is a reason why I and many other astrologers start with the interpretation of the rising sign and planets found in the 1st house; they tell us a lot about the native. Now we know that our planets have their... "quirks", is how I would describe it? Mars is impulsive Venus is comfortable Sun is radiant Moon is introspective Jupiter is hopeful and finally Saturn is restrictive. Oh wait there's one left. See with the other planets without taking into consideration the planetary condition we can tell where in the spectrum the planet lies. Good or bad. Benefic or malefic. Mercury is our one and only neutral planet and this I would say is a controversial reason to consider it the best for 1st house but I do. I like that... almost starting off of a blank slate and having to go into detail to discover more aspect. As well as the duality of Mercury, its balance between light and dark, its potential, it is so fascinating to be honest

Moon in 3rd house:

Moon is intuition and emotion and I feel it is very suitable to navigate in that instinctual way during one-on-one communication; intellectual as well as mental exchange paired with connection to one's intuition and subconscious can add a lot of depth into one's communication style as well as aid in talking about one's feelings and generally being vulnerable which helps a lot with conflict resolution. The 3rd house also rules over our immediate environment so having moon here could signify growing up in or being in an entourage where emotional vulnerability as well as expression is encouraged which is always nice

Venus in 5th house:

In the ancient world children, which are a 5th house topic, were especially considered a blessing and so having a benefic such as Venus which is more in tune with the body than Jupiter in it made sense. But other than this old view on things this was the one which I heard of the first time and I was like duh. I mean Venus is love, beauty, aesthetics, comfort, harmony, pleasure and the 5th house is creativity, self expression, romance and inner child too imo so yeah it's like this cute soulmate connection I love it. Really enjoying what life has to offer and not rushing through anything with this placement I feel

Mars in 6th house:

Mars is considered a malefic and is associated with physicality and aggression as well so its obvious match would be the 6th house; the house associated with physical injuries and health issues. Mars is productive in this house because there is action involved to hopefully prevent the triggering of certain conditions (sport for example is very Martian) but also it provides the drive and the resilience to deal with issues even when they are present so yeah

Sun in 9th house:

As I have mentioned in my post about the Sun before, its rays illuminate the truth; which is a key term for the 9th house. The 9th house is not about the detailed factual analytic type of intellect or knowledge (3rd house), rather it is more focalized on the higher truth, spirituality, belief and religion. Sun is all about identity, leadership and potential. You cannot be a true leader if you do not know and therefore cannot SHOW the truth to your followers, or if you cannot guide them toward a higher path; one that is filled with wisdom, enlightenment, as well as enthusiasm for life and for discovering it and, of course, fulfillment.

Jupiter in 11th house:

11th house is associated with friendships, hopes, the desire/urge to become something greater than ourselves, to have a vision and to follow it with the faith and belief that it will work out. And what better planet would aid individuals in the achievement of such dreams? Jupiter. The benefic that speaks to our soul, the one who gives us luck, expansion and abundance <3

Saturn in 12th house:

The 12th house is the one most associated with mental health issues and isolation, while Saturn rules over restrictive measures, discipline, limitation etc so Saturn being in this house is thought to restrict the mental and spiritual issues that relate to the 12th house's nature; therefore allowing the individual to be productive in spite of those setbacks. Not to mention that Saturn always gives me the vibes of just work hard and be patient and I'll give u what u want and in this particular case I think it manifests in eventually working through these 12th house issues and challenges and mastering one's inner world which is always nice.
