They needed to get his temperature up higher, faster. “Arthur, take your clothes off.” “I really don’t think this is the time, Merlin,” the prince answered exasperatedly, shaking his head. “Body heat,” Merlin explained, already standing up to shuck his cloak and jacket off. The wind whipped the jacket from his hand. “It’s the fastest way to warm him back up.”

Hurt/Comfort, huddling for warmth, emotionally stunted but sweetheart Arthur, and a happy poly ending for all of them? Yeah. This entire fic feels like a warm blanket itself and single-handedly turned me into a whump!Gwaine fan I think, 10/10 no notes <3

I'm such a sucker for this trope and it just works SO well for the three of them. The trio is mostly implied at the end but I actually liked it best that way, it's such a great snapshot of the dynamic between Arthur and Gwaine, what's missing and what isn't, with the 'fix' mostly left in the air because really, they probably don't know exactly, either.

While this is mostly PWP, it just feels SO true to the dynamic of Merlin and Gwaine being little shits and entirely making it Arthur's problem. There's bets about who will get whom of quicker. It's excellent.

as a trans person I distanced myself from everything that involves harry potter but I can't stop thinking about this sad merwaine hp au scenario where gwaine's patronus is a hawk (because of his name), but when he meets and falls in love with merlin, his patronus changes to a wyvern or maybe a dragon (patronus changing is a thing, right? I remember my patronus being a dragon after I took that official test, so I know that is a real thing at least). but he does everything he can to hide it, because arthur's patronus is a dragon, and so is merlin's, and even though they are not a couple yet, everybody knows they will be eventually because it's so obvious they like eachother.

and then he keeps suffering in silence as he watches his best friends falling in love and the love of his life loving someone else. perhaps he even loses the ability to cast a patronus and part of his magic due to the size of his broken heart. and merlin doesn't even notices until is too late because he was too worried with arthur.

but bonus points (and then this turns into a happy au and not a unrequited love au) if they end up as a throuple. I love merwainthur and courage magic and strength should all be happy and in love in a beautiful and fun relationship. they deserve happiness for once

I love Merthur. I really do.

But. Have you thought of Arwaine? They just fit somehow. One is a wanderer, avoiding settling down and responsibilities and the other has the weight of the whole kingdom on his shoulders. One of the best rare pairs I've read on Merlin A03. The small amount of people who write Arwaine. Thank you!

You know what's even better? Merwainthur! You can make any one of them the long-suffering one! And the whole strength, courage and magic thing is just so much potential. We need so much more of this.
