oh ALL of these are good but the use of hopepunk really gets me... the way that you put every one of my brain's keywords into this... fair game.

Percy "I punch bullies" Jackson 1000% is a punk and KNOWS that holding onto hope and being kind with absolutely no strings attached is a political act of rebellion against systems that WANT you to become cynical and nihilistic and numb to any creative reimagination of a better world. Hope. It is the only thing stronger than fear. This is literally a pillar of his character throughout the books! This is why he and Luke parallel each other so well!

anyway I think that Magnus "I will pickpocket you if you're being rude to the minimum wage workers" Chase would similarly trip and fall into alt subcultures though I'm not certain which ones. I just know that Percy and the "decolonize the outdoors" Chases hike together and collect patches on their jackets

I love the (actually very canon) dynamic of Percy and Magnus being made of the same stardust deep down but casually (and dramatically) disagreeing on stuff like sports teams, music taste, etc. in the same vein as Jack being like "a pen-sword? wtf?" they would find those little things to pick on each other for alll the time. but truly they are just two sunshine coded teenage dirtbags born into a dystopia. nobody gets them like each other.
