Here's another question I have: there's been a debate with some friends of mine over how Ryuga was handled in Fury specifically that he regressed despite his character development in Masters. What do you think?
I don't think he regressed at all. For him to have regressed, he would have to return to his characterization in Metal Fusion, which is a far cry from Metal Fury.
Ryuuga, at the start of Metal Fury, is just chilling on a random island and indulging in his habit of training in a volcano, just like we see him before in the flashback between Fusion and Masters. So, no difference there. In Masters, he's mellowed down considerably from the person he was in Fusion and his demeanor is no different in Fury.
When Gingka and co. show up, he wants nothing to do with them and that's not really out of character since the only time Ryuuga ever goes near them is during a world ending crisis. He shows up because he needs to "repay a debt" to both Gingka and Tsubasa and then just wanders around until Ziggurat tries to recruit him.
It's only when he learns of the Star Fragment that he shows any interest in what they have to say, and that's only so that he can take their power for himself. Ryuuga has always wanted to be the strongest. That is what attracted him to the Dark Power in Metal Fusion, and Masters changes nothing about that even if it seems like it does. It's just that most of the time, Ryuuga is so overwhelmingly powerful that there's not much to desire there. By learning of the Star Fragment, Ryuuga learns that there is still a power out there that he hasn't mastered and Ryuuga has always coveted power. And we see that he is at least interested in fighting strong opponents, which is the whole reason he follows Jack to Hades Inc. in Metal Masters.
On the topic of allowing Kenta to follow him around, it likely came from the expectation that Kenta is a weakling who would quit soon enough, but he manages to hang in their. This piques Ryuuga's interest and he "allows" Kenta to follow him. Despite this, he does pretty much whatever he wants and Kenta is left to catch up with all his might. None of this is a stretch from his behavior in Masters; it's not even the first time Ryuuga has been interested in someone else (Jack being the most notable).
And the rest follows through gradually, but it's just more of the same.
So no, I don't think Ryuuga regressed at all. If anything, he's completely different from how he was at the beginning of the series.

years ago i started writing this ryuuga/kyoya AU and did so much research for it too, especially because i had this one vision : kyoya and ryuuga holding hands and walking through the beach at cape inutabu, japan, before ryuuga was to leave for college. god i miss it like an amputated limb, i wrote a 10k draft and then lost all of it because my shitty tablet broke down. barely recovered a snippet. i started it in 2013. it's been 10 years. i still wanna write it but I'm so much older and tired and not in the fandom anymore, i dunno who will even read lol.
anyway, that's all, just wanted to put it out there.

the handy manga chart
Based on what we see Doji try to do to Kyoya, Ryuga probably used to be a fairly typical kid with a bit of a temper and desire for strength and Doji groomed that into a dangerous level of power hunger like the Palpatine to his Anakin.

(Its curedeity) happy birthday and please drop me your top five platonic dynamics in beyblade!
Thank you! Oooo that one is one I was hoping to get!
5) Tsubasa and Yu, Kenta and Ryuuga, & Dynamis and Tithi. Basically I hold them on the same place because I view them as the same. Kind of like a mentor/student dynamic that evolved (or had the potential to evolve) into a big brother/little brother dynamic. They are cannon and they were honestly the most interesting dynamics of Masters and Fury respectively.
We have VERY little time with Dynamis and Tithi, but I treasure every minute and I would love to see them just living their lives and learning about the world together. I think that Dynamis appreciates having a person to protect and Tithi appreciates having someone who is just as clueless of the outside world as he is.
I feel that if Ryuuga was more allowed to feel emotions and the plot had been allowed to step away from beyblade battles, we would have amazing episodes where they get a more stablished dynamic...But alas, Beyblade is a shonen first and a series second.
Tsubasa and Yu are so funny to me because while it appeared to be Yu being an annoying little kid following Tsubasa around because he was cool turned into an actual sibling relationship where Tsubasa would kill everyone in the room if anything were to happen to Yu....And vice versa because let's face it, Yu could be a menace to society if he wanted to.
4) Benkei and Kyoya. Okay so you all know I'm not fond of Kyoya but I just love how by Fury, Benkei was Kyoya's impulse control. LIKE I'M NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING. This man has probably prevented so many Kyoya disasters and we should thank him! Something I also like is that we see a moment in Fusion where Kyoya realizes that Benkei truly cares for him, and that he is wasting his time trying to push him away. I think he has problems grasping having someone who cares about him that unconditionally. If you ask me, I feel like Benkei was onto something when he said Kenta reminded him of himself when he was little. I think Benkei has just always been a ride or die guy from the start.
3) Madoka and Yuki. We were robbed. ROBBED I TELL YOU. We were robbed of these silly nerds just hanging out, doing science, and simply being buddies together. I have many AU's where they are siblings or at some point related because the possibilities of them being nerdy twins and causing mayhem is just huge. If the gang in Fury had been the Scooby Doo gang, these two would be fucking Velma and I just love that.
I love how Yuki is terrible at pretty much anything that isn't science and I love that Madoka is very gifted but is also good at social interaction. I would love for them to have a friendship where they are just chill nerds doing their science, talking about complicated topics and ending up talking about how to defeat the British museum when the initial topic was the long list of actors/singers considered to play Eric in the Phantom of the Opera film adaptation and why it should have been Antonio Banderas.
2) Okay, so this is very fanon but there is a reason why I love the idea of King, Chris, and Yuki as a friend group. THEY WOULD BALANCE EACH OTHER SO WELL! King would bring some fucking sunshine to their lives, Yuki would bring some critical thinking, and Chris would just ask himself why he hangs out with these two idiots. He has better things to do, but then realize that no he fucking doesn't. If they are in trouble, he has a shovel, nobody will find out.
1) I'm a simple woman. Gingka, Kenta, and Madoka. THEY ARE A FAMILY, OKAY?! THEY ARE A FUCKING FAMILY AND I ALWAYS LOVED THEIR DYNAMIC!
No matter what, these three will remain the reason why I started watching MFB. The first time I watched it, I was sick and couldn't get the remote, and the episode airing was the one about Tetsuya AND I JUST LOVED HOW THESE THREE FRIENDS WERE DEALING WITH THIS WEIRDO CRAB GUY!
I love how childish they are, I love how they would act first and ask questions later for each other, I love how Gingka and Kenta NEVER treat Madoka like a nag EVER. I also love how no matter how many adventures they have or how many friends they make, we can always find them back at the B-Pit chilling.
Also, I have a headcannon that Kenta becomes taller than BOTH of them in the future. And it just. Makes me happy.
....I'm sorry to write such a long and scattered-brain answer, but I hope you liked it!
Thanks again, Deity!

i will flipflop between most of these, but these are based on vibes
Kyouya: Trans & Gay (he does not care about being polite or heterosexual) Gingka: Nonbinary AroAce (his gender is beyblade) Madoka: Bisexual Hikaru: Lesbian Masamune: Bisexual Ryuuga: AroAce, Agender (Ryuuga DOES NOT have time for romance or the gender binary) Benkei: Bisexual Toby: Trans Man (the reason masamune knows about trans rights) Lera: Trans & Lesbian Tsubasa: Bigender

What is your opinion on the scene in beyblade fusion where yu begs ryuuga for help but he just turns his back on him ?
Sorry for the late response. I haven't been very active on Tumblr these days because of exams.
That scene broke me as a kid. I didn't quite understand why I loved that scene so much back when I was little, nor why I wasn't as angry with Ryuuga as I would be with any other character. I think that, as much as I loved Yuu and even Ryuuga to a lesser extent, I kind of saw it coming. Or at least, I wasn't surprised that Ryuuga would do something like that. I never forgot that scene even years later, even after forgetting almost everything else about beyblade.
When I rewatched it years later, I think I understood why that scene was so important for me.
That moment is really important for Yuu's character arc in Metal Fusion. In the beginning of that episode, Yuu realizes what is going on behind the scenes with the other bladers and meets Reiji and learns that Doji lied to Yuu about him being the second strongest member of the Dark Nebula. And then, Yuu finds himself completely outclassed in that battle and, finding no one else, he turns to Ryuuga for help.
Up until now, Yuu has had this sort of hero worship for Ryuuga, even though Ryuuga himself has been nothing but dismissive of Yuu aside from maybe one or two dialogues throughout the season. It shows how much of a naive child Yuu is, despite his strength and analytic capabilities in battles. And that Yuu, despite finding out that everything he knew about the Dark Nebula was a lie, turns to Ryuuga for help at his lowest point speaks volumes about his trust in Ryuuga.
And then Ryuuga goes and shatters that trust instantly by just walking away. This breaks Yuu, but perhaps it's because of that, that Yuu finds enough desperation in him to launch a final attack as a distraction and escape. And then, with nowhere else to go that would be safe from Doji, he goes to the only two other people whom he has bonded with before. Gingka and Kenta.
So, yeah, that scene is very important for Yuu's character, and I wish the other seasons would have touched a bit on it. Especially after Yuu was brutalized by Team Garcia in Metal Masters; that would've been the perfect time to bring up past trauma.
As for Ryuuga, well, this scene serves to show that, at this point in time, Ryuuga is beyond help. For all his hero worship, Yuu is the only person who views Ryuuga as a person throughout Metal Fusion; he considered them bets friends. The other people around him either see him as an enemy to defeat (Gingka and co), a terrifying force that can't be defeated (the to her bladers) or a pawn to be used in a convoluted, three-season worth plot (Doji).
And for Ryuuga to walk away from Yuu at that moment means that he's walking away from his only chance at redemption — at least, in this season. Had he cared for Yuu even just a little, he might have had a shot at not being totally consumed by the Dark Power.
It's honestly criminal that the show never discusses their complicated relationship after this. In Metal Masters, once Ryuuga whisks away Gingka at the worst time possible, Yuu could have had some reservations about it since he can no longer bring himself to trust Ryuuga. Or have trust issues in general. And Ryuuga says he owes a debt to Tsubasa and Gingka, but he could have included Yuu in that category too.
Or in Metal Fury, he could have had some reaction to Ryuuga's death. But no. All that set up and they never go anywhere with it.
Still, I really, really love the scene. I just wish the show had dealt with the long-term consequences. But that's not a problem with only this scene.

so i saw this post of mine has 2 notes now (haha, lucky me) and thought i'd share whatever i could save from 10 years back, considering i probably won't be able to actually write this out anytime soon.
mind you, i was 16-17 when i wrote this, back in 2012-13 or so, now I'm almost 28 (in 2 months). my writing style has changed a lot but also not very much. I'm cringing a little while reading this too, but this was one of my better stuff from back then and kinda reflects my current style to a great extent.
also, heh, turns out you forget details with time. it's kyoya who's leaving for college and ryuuga stays behind because he wanted a career in music. anyway, here ya go.
needless to say, do not repost. i hope it won't happen. this is a child of mine i haven't been able to nurture. but. you can have it for now!
**
The two days after their trip and before Kyoya's departure, Ryuuga's head is constantly swimming in a sea of emotions, muscles wound tight, an oppressive air all around him, inside him, threatening to choke him to death.
Anger. Hatred. Disgust. Betrayal. Loss. Loneliness.
He lists off each one as he helps Kyoya pack, but can't decide which one of them he feels strongest.
When they are done — two heavy bags neatly arranged at the foot of the bed, Ryuuga turns to leave.
"You should stay" Kyoya says with a hopeful lilt in his voice, and that is when Ryuuga makes the lamest excuse of his life to get away from this boy he has loved since the first time he laid eyes on him.
"I've got a headache" he says, heading towards the door. "Gonna take a nap."
Kyoya does not look the least bit convinced and Ryuuga does not want to argue with him right now of all things possible because he knows how adamant Kyoya can be when he wants his way.
"But kaa-chan made dinner ——" Kyoya starts, moving towards him to make his point and ——
"I wanna take a goddamn nap, Kyoya! Can ya leave me alone for once?"
The room goes deathly silent then.
Kyoya stands beside his bed, hands balled up into fists, lips pressed together and jaws shut tight.
And while Ryuuga keeps looking at him, he hates himself just a little bit more.
He did not mean to burst out like this, but he's so angry right now; has been this way for so long, since the day he came to know that Kyoya got into Tokyo U.
That this will probably be it. Their end.
He wants to claw his eyes out, pull at his hairs until they are nothing but shreds of dead protein, because he is so so so goddamned scared right now and there is no one to talk to, definitely not Kyoya, and God knows that if he stays here one more minute, he'd go to Kyoya crawling on his knees and beg him to stay, to hold onto them instead of his dreams, to wait for a few more years so that they can leave this place together, so that ——
"Okay" Kyoya says, uncurling his fists, and so, instead of doing all this and more, Ryuuga takes that much needed step back, learns to let go before Kyoya pushes him away, because regardless of everything else, what does not change is the fact that he is twenty years old and a coward, scared of being wounded by love.
~
The headache he lies about comes to bite him in the ass.
By the time it's eleven, his head is pounding so hard he thinks that his eyes might just pop out from all that pressure.
The thought of Kyoya leaving is constantly bugging him and truth be told, he's fuckin' tired of it all now.
At 10.50, there is a knock on his bedroom door and he grumbles just loud enough to make himself heard, "Maa, I don't want dinner, I ——"
"I thought you needed a nap."
—— and that is definitely not his Maa's voice.
He sits up to look at Kyoya standing by the door.
"What're ya doing here?"
Ryuuga gets a raised eyebrow for that.
Kyoya walks up to him and places something on the study table.
"You forgot your watch" he says and just, stands there, watching him.
After a while, Ryuuga sighs loudly and says, "C'mere", opening his arms for Kyoya to slip in.
He kisses his forehead then, just a soft press of lips not meant to lead anywhere.
"Sorry I was a dick" Ryuuga mumbles, running a hand over Kyoya's stiff back.
"How's the headache?" Kyoya asks in return.
"Don't have one" he lies.
"Your eyes are bloodshot, Ryuuga."
Ryuuga takes a deep breath then and reminds himself exactly why he did not want to see Kyoya's face tonight anymore.
He knows, that even now, there is a huge possibility that if he asks, then Kyoya will stay, apply to some other college on the island or something.
But that is the problem, isn't it?
He does not want to squash Kyoya's dreams, in spite of everything that he wants.
So he draws back and says, "Go home now. I'll see you tomorrow."
Kyoya reaches towards him, stubborn, so stubborn, says, "You can talk to me."
But Ryuuga doesn't want this, not right now at least.
"There's nothing to talk about" he tells Kyoya, sternly this time so that it gets through his thick skull. "I'll see ya tomorrow. Promise."
Kyoya stands, tips his jaw up, defiant, strong-willed, and then presses a kiss to his forehead, hands him something from his pocket.
"Take them with some food" he says, "or you'll get gas."
Ryuuga's lips twitch up, fingers curling around the ibuprofen tablets, and this is another problem, isn't it? Kyoya jokes without meaning to, cares without showing, loves without asking and Ryuuga, he's going to... miss him so much.
"I love you" Kyoya says, before he walks out, shutting the door behind him.
