Segawatober Day 12 - Sea

Caught up let's go. Woasu spoilers, can't write about the sea as a swimmer and not make it like powerful.

Midorino only remembers some of the stories her father told her of Earth. Of rich cultures and wars unlike the ones that hit this planet. Of adventures and stories and more nations than even he could count. But one story that always stuck with her was the story of the sea. Calpucca’s sea is tame, minor tides and little to no storms that hit the mainland. Earth’s seas? They are powerful, civilization wrecking forces. Her father told her stories of waves taller than the castle and as destructive as Megalopolis, storms as loud as spaceships and water as dark as the night sky. Seasons of rains pouring down on the people with little escape and winds and power. And yet still, after all settles, the sea was still beautiful. Greens and blues and wildlife. Delicious food and sights. The ability to travel. Life. To her father, the sea was Earth, and he always looked faintly dissatisfied with the sea here. If she had the chance, Midorino would want to see the seas of Earth, to see what her father always talked about. Perhaps she’d feel at home there, instead of the false sense of home she has where she is. Perhaps she’d feel free.

She’ll never know, but it can’t hurt to imagine.

Idk if anyone here watches Mewkledreamy, the Sanrio magical girl series, but I wanna make a prediction about it now so I can prove I was right if it comes true:

Asahi Minamikawa (Yume’s childhood-friend-next-door-who’s-always-been-in-love-with-her) is gonna become a Dreamy Mate. There’s five stars on the compact and Mewkle Stick that Yume has, and I think it’s Yume’s pendant that has a color scheme of pink/yellow/blue/purple/green. I wondered if we were gonna get additional purple and green characters, and so far the purple’s been fulfilled with Tokiwa. I was originally thinking that classmate Wakaba Midorino was gonna be the green one, since y’know, she’s green themed, but I remembered a probably-crucial detail: all of the Dreamy Mates/main characters have stars in their eyes. And who has green, starry eyes in the series? Asahi. Bonus point: there were some promotional pictures of two new cats a little while back; one of them was Nene, and the other was a white one named Rei. So there is most likely, at the very least, going to be one more Dreamy Mate.

P.S. I would understand if people think Tokiwa Anzai to be more of a red girl bc of her bright hair, but when we first met she was in a purple track suit. Also, Yume is the pink girl yet her cat is purple; and Tokiwa’s cat is pink, so I figured they’re just switched for some reason. Maybe for the lulz.

Update: just did some Google Image searching and I remembered that Haruhito Sugiyama (Yume’s senpai crush) also has purple, starry eyes,,,, so I’m conflicted now. I wonder if he’ll have some greater importance later in the series...? Or if the animators just give stars to the characters with more screentime lmao.

The Owul twins, despite leaving the Kingdom of Calpucca behind, took with them pieces of the land to remember it by. A flower from Ophelia, preserved by being pressed in Fukuro’s ingredients book. “Please take this with you! The sprites gave it to me, it’s a protective flower. As long as it has its blue, it shall protect you. Be safe, come back sometime. Please.” Feather from Badoh, a present he said was customary of family back where he was from. “Even if I had to leave my family behind, I’ve found people like you and the others who are just as dear. So it’s not so lonely, being the only one of my kind here. Family is not only the blood in our veins, but what is within our hearts.” A coin from Calpucca’s past from Corme, held in a frame from Waystern. “My parents had kept this coin, but I have little use for it now. Perhaps though, as travelers, you can find use for it. And remember us from it.” Two rings from Toph, inscribed with Calpucca’s sigil. “A showing that you are friends of ours, if it means anything out there. Even if you aren’t here, I’d still like to protect you.” Two sigils on pendants from the Star Goddess, hanging on their necks. “Can’t exactly say I’ll be able to go where you are no matter what, but call upon that sigil if you’re ever desperate, and I’ll be there.” Vials of assorted spices from Ruis and Daios, held in the cabinets. “Higher concentrated, so they should last you a while. Should you ever miss the tastes of Calpucca, you can take them with you.” A little helper robot from Midorino. “The little guy can help y’all with some basic tasks like cleaning. He likes rice, so here’s a whole vat of that too. Be safe now.” And finally a navigation book from Desmond. “I no longer have any use for it, as I’m staying here. Perhaps it can guide you somewhere for once instead of it finding you.” Yurika glared at him for it, but we took it nonetheless. And Yurkia took with her some of the flowers from the highway, pressed along with Ophelia’s flower so that she “will not forget where she came from, even if she is free now.” Memories, all from a place the twins could consider a second home.

They’d return. One day.
