A rant about Mike Wheeler because this has been on my mind lately

I think the actor to character age gap is why so many people get confused by Mike's decisions and the way he interacts with the world. The GA can easily look at Mike and see him as this guy who's just being a dumbass and a jerk, when in reality it's just a little boy who has a lot going on. Finn wolfhard was 19 playing Mike in season 4. Mike isn't even 15 yet. If Mike looked like this in season 4

I bet a lot more people would empathize with him because it would be easier to comprehend that this is just a little kid going through a tough time. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with an actor playing a younger character, but I think it does sort of make a typical viewer forget how old he is. Especially when I point out to someone that he's only a teenager and they're like "well he should at least know how to deal with these situations, he's just being a jerk"

Like honey what?? Would you ever expect THIS kid to deal with monsters, family problems, mental health and relationship problems and NOT come off as being kind of a jerk because he doesn't know how to deal with it?? Would you?

I've had this on my mind a lot more recently, the way the GA sees Mike as someone who should be able to deal with this, it's just annoying that they don't look at the bigger picture, that this is a 14 year old kid who's dealing with monsters from another dimension, his poor mental health, trying to hold a relationship he feels insecure in, parents who don't love each other, and also trying to grapple with how he feels about Will. I don't even know if an ADULT could handle all that, let alone a child with little to no guidance

Imagine someone starts getting angry at him and pointing out how much he has changed in the past year (in season 3 and 4), then he starts shouting and defending himself like ‘you think i want to be like this?’ and starts breaking down about how hard he has tried to be normal but nothing has worked.

Mike Wheeler had to witness the disappearance and possession of his best friend. Mike Wheeler has dealt with thinking two people he cares about have died. Mike Wheeler is a boy who went through homophobic bullying. Mike Wheeler is a boy who had to save the world four times already.

He dealt with all this bullshit at the VERY young age that is 12-15. You want to tell this kid he's a bad person for being stressed? He has so much on his mind at such a young age from literally all of that and you expect him to act rational? Peaceful? "Correct"??😭

You are literally stupid if you think that's the proper opinion. He is going through the same shit as the other characters, the only reason you don't get pissed at Will is because he internalizes his feelings, rather than kind of exploding (which is what Mike does).
