You don't repeat something in writing unless it brings some sort of new information to the pattern. Thinking about Mike's subtle description changes in his brainstorming a solution.

Did you see it? I'll say it again: "said something". "explained myself".

He's progressing. He's moved on from the idea of him saying it being on the table. He should have explained himself. He doesn't know WHAT, which he states. He expresses that he wishes he knew HOW to explain himself. But he's starting to know the answer to one question he didn't before...why.

He goes from "if only I knew" to "if I only I could put it into words". Subtle, but VERY different. Said something. Explained myself.

He should have said he loved her. He should have explained why he couldn't. Those are different wishes he has. If he could go back in time, he would say it. If he could back in time, he would tell her the truth. Those wouldn't have changed if they were synonymous.

okay piggybacking off my tags on my last post

has anyone ever thought about how clear it is that mike has NOBODY he can truly talk to except for will? i mean you can argue vice versa but will has jonathan and joyce, the party has been shown to be ready to go to bat for will at any moment, and while will doesn’t like being babied, he has people he knows he can talk to. not only through their words, but their actions.

mike however, despite nancy and karen saying they can talk, isn’t shown much attention on him for his feelings or serious problems. not even with the party, except lucas in s3 with the breakup but that was less about mikes feelings and more about trying to show mike how to be a good boyfriend. the only person who is willing to genuinely listen to mike is will.

which, thinking back on s4, makes those events so much sadder. i’ve stated it before but mike trying to convey his fear about el was not about how he was afraid to tell her he loves her, it wasn’t about him being afraid he wouldn’t save her in time to tell her. it was about him being afraid of losing his cover by being honest with her, afraid of losing her entirely by being honest with her. so when will didnt understand him, when will pushed him to el like he never had before, i bet that shit hurt a lot. and the fact he cannot talk to will about his sexuality issues because they stem AROUND will is even more heartbreaking.

this boy truly has nobody to talk to and it makes me sick in the stomach😭

(adding on, i’m not denying it feels like will has no one to talk to from his perspective, esp since s3, but he truly does. will’s is more that he *feels* like he can’t talk to them, which is valid, but mike’s is very much that he truly hasn’t really been given the opportunity/literally cannot. not since s1.)

Omg I just thought of this and I’m writing it down so I don’t forget it (sorry for this one)

So what if there’s a scene in season 5 and it’s a flashback but it’s only a couple months before so when the Byers are in California. So we are in Hawkins in the wheeler house and we see Mike punching in a number to a phone we see him like gripping the phone he’s whispering “come on Will, please answer” only for the Byers answering machine to come on. We see Mike slam the phone down and rush to his room. He has tears in his eyes but then he starts writing a letter it’s addressed dear Will then it goes to a voice over of what Mike wrote in his letter and we see Will sitting on mikes bed reading that letter and then we have more flashbacks of Mike and Will when they were younger just being happy then we come back to Will reading the letter and mikes voiceover stops with love mike…
