i think OFF is getting a new, official english translation alongside the fangamer merch releases in december.
my reasoning: i've been digging through the website given in the teaser. right now it's an email newsletter signup page; this makes sense, given that the URL needs to be live to build hype up to the event date.
on this website, there's a rotation of quotes from OFF that are in english. and apparently, along with the very rare and completely new quote that pops up on there sometimes, the quotes the website flashes are not a match to the v3 english fan translation... even though that's the only way to play the game in english. (yes i know about forgotten dreams)
i have OFF english translation v3 open in RPG maker 2003 right now on my laptop. and using some web dev magic, i also have the official text from all of these dialogues. come find out why i've slowly been going insane over the course of today. (it's thanksgiving 2024, if you were wondering. also this post is probably best viewed on desktop.)

sentence-case capitalization and tense changes aside, the move from "spectre" (european english) to "specter" (american english) immediately jumps out at me. (i say european, but i don't know the translator's nationality. i just know that professor layton did that with one of their games, last specter in the USA and last spectre in europe.) the important part being, mortis ghost is belgian and speaks french. the original game had it as spectres, and either the fan translator was european or preferred that spelling and kept it. fangamer, however, is an american company -- and the spelling of "specters" on their site is specifically in american english. (only we would fuck up a perfectly good word. it looks way better with the re.)
how do I know it wasn't just a typo? because there's two lines with the word specter in them on the site! screenshots upon ye!

not just someone getting carried away on copy, then -- this is an intentional change. specifically, i think this difference can be explained by these being two subsequent translations, first v3 and now the website/new english translation/steam release/v4, with differing guidelines for their finished products. they're entirely TOO similar to not be related, to me -- forgotten dreams (2023) is a good example of a vastly different english translation of the game, and proves that one can be done. but if you have a widely beloved english fan translation that already exists... why not just get the rights and spice it up a little with some fresh editing?

these changes feel like they've been made by a copy editor; the meaning is the same, but the structure flows better. "soon be reached" fits a latin language (french) phrase structure where the verb goes at the end of the question, whereas "be handed down soon" is a more natural english phrasing, at least to this native english speaker.
some changes, however, are stylistic in nature. i quite like the change in dedan's line here, for example.

"stepping in it" feels WAY more natural and in character for dedan to say. he's the big man in charge, da boss! he isn't wasting his time on lengthy diatribes, saying shit like "if only." this is a localization change, giving dedan a gruff and tough vibe through the way he talks. good stuff!!!
but it's a lot of care and thought being put into these dialogue rewrites for, need I remind you again, an email newsletter website. (this thing is written in like, straight html/css/javascript, i doubt they even used a web builder.) the guy that made this didn't retranslate the lines for this; he got his copy from someone, who got it from somewhere else, which somewhere all the way down along the line got approved by mortis ghost. and fangamer, obviously.
this post is long, we've been here awhile. how about a refresher: I think OFF is getting a v4 official english translation coordinated around the release of this new fangamer merchandise wave.
because if i'm fangamer, should i release merchandise for a beloved cult classic game that can only be played in english by my target american audience when using an unofficial translation on a real computer? where you have to use the file system? i don't know if i would. wouldn't you rather release merch for something safe, something on steam or consoles? something like undertale?
oh. that's weird, that link goes to a physical release of undertale being sold on fangamer's website. that's not merch, that is a game that was originally released digital only on computers and wasn't released physically + on consoles until a few years after. not to mention that you can buy undertale physical edition in stores these days, as published by fangamer, due to its massive popularity.
hm.
let's see... what about FAITH the unholy trinity?
see, that was originally a little indie game released in three chapters on itch.io that blew up with the lofi/analog horror scene, and ended up getting a steam remaster + physical release + merch release from fangamer. given their shared themes of cleansing, unsettling imagery, and excellent character writing, you can see where i might draw some similarities -- they both have pixel art, for one thing.
i think the pattern is there. it's true, fangamer does sell just merch and not physical releases for some games -- oneshot comes to mind, but that game was officially ported to consoles, which is an entirely different undertaking given that it uses fourth wall break mechanics. the tradeoff makes sense to me for it to still be profitable. (most people probably don't own a physical copy of stardew valley and yet probably do have a piece of stardew merch from fangamer...)
no, there has not been an official announcement about this. this is purely speculative, with evidence gathered from one afternoon of poking around with postman and rpg maker 2003. but i think there's evidence for OFF getting, at the very least, an official steam/itch.io release with a new translation. the date announcement trailer even has game footage from an area that isn't in the original game data. so... there's that, too.
i probably could have just led with that and saved us both 1219 words. ah, well. c'est la vie.

So Kingdom Hearts Missing Link is Dead
Square just announced they were cancelling development and focusing on kh4.
I'm going to discuss why this might be a good thing.
The reason they gave is quote "we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time, leading us to the decision to cancel development."
The obvious answer is GPS walking mobile games only work if you are pokemon in the west.
Either they had too much story and so you'd have to walk miles over months to unlock all the story cutscenes.
Or they didn't have enough story. So would have to stretch it out to have the game live long enough to cover the cost of development.
Khux had months of no new story updates. But the grinding was just logging in and slide your finger across the screen to fling medals. If the grind is walk a quarter mile a day no one's going to do that unless there is a story cutscene to work towards.
Third option is after the play tests complained about how much walking was involved to level up your characters. The dev team tried to pivot to minimize it. Unfortunately the core gameplay loop required you to walk or spend premium currency. They realized it was impossible to rework the gameplay loop without just cutting out the GPS part. Which is like 70% of the code of this mobile game. Meaning completely reworking the game and they just didn't have the time and budget for that.
4th possibly best option. They are getting closer to wrapping up kh4 and realized if they staggered the release of missing link cutscenes. The important plot beats you need to know for kh4 wouldn't be out before kh4's release. Remember how the Elrena and Darkness reveal happened in khux like a week after kh3 came out? they had that stuff timed perfectly.
The good news is it sounds like a lot of the story cutscenes for the game have already been made. And since some of this is supposed to tie into kingdom hearts 4. They might just release it as a movie like Backcover. Or they will rework it into a console only game like everyone wanted to begin with and that will just have to come after kh4.
So yeah I'm sad we won't be getting any new kh content anytime soon. But it makes me hopeful they are getting close on kh4. At the very least the next kingdom hearts news we get HAS to be kindgom hearts 4 because Missing link isn't in line before it anymore.

Long ass post, but what did we expect. There’s a lot to unpack here. For starters, the general environment in this section is incredibly well done, not to mention the general atmosphere is pulled off incredibly well. Truth be told, despite this section being absolutely soul crushing, I really love how everything it written and handled here. (Bonus points because we can actually see Resh’an sitting in the corner and watching, as he can’t interfere)
I will say, Seraï during this segment just losing it and throwing the Vial of Time at the Dweller of Strife is a fun concept, and I was so excited to see what would happen on my first playthrough. It does hit differently now that I know what’s happening when I’m going in now.
(On a side note, does this lead into something in The Messenger? I haven’t beaten it yet)
These lines are also quite interesting, even with what happens. Maybe I’m just finding it funny because the Dweller of Strife is just one large eyeball? Either way, despite the actual fight bringing my death count up to 13 (I had 15 individual KOs during the second attempt as well) what comes after these lines is the hardest part of this section.
See, the problem is, Garl is my favorite party member :( I should’ve seen this coming a mile away in my first playthrough, as I have awful luck with favorite characters (roughly 90% of my favorite characters that are important to the main plot get killed off for some reason??) however, his death, while sad, I know is a major catalyst in the plot. I could probably make multiple paragraph long posts just about how it works. As much as it pains me to go through this segment, I can appreciate the fact that his death does have impact on the plot and that it isn’t just done for shock value.
Also the devs really want to make their players cry with the “On Borrowed Time” chapter, huh? He just wants to help his friends one last time. I am in shambles. This game is evil (I currently have 140 hours logged and this is my third playthrough)

I wanna know what the heck Cole and Betsy did to Beck - I mean he must have been pretty blindsided for them to be able to actually tie him up (my guess is even though he was starting to suspect them doing something he might've been holding out and believing he was wrong and maybe it wasn't them being malicious, especially since one of them is his childhood friend, but it was) - cause yeah he loses against spiderman a lot but how on earth did they manage to actually get him out of the way to do their thing? Did they hit him over the head or something? Cause when Miles shows up he's tied up in a back closet and talking in a small voice asking for help and when Miles opens the door he has his eyes closed and looks like he's in pain. I'm just curious how this played out here.
Also I'm real curious as to your thoughts on what potentially might happen afterwards - like he just wanders off but Betsy and Cole are now going to jail.
Tl;Dr cuz I went on a tangent: Likely they used his own tech against him. They lured him into the building, turned it on, and used it against him to trap him and catch him. Especially since it would have been the easiest way to go about it, and the safest just in case he had any tricks of his own to fight back.
Another option could be that they merely waited until his guard was down before seizing the opportunity to attack. 2 against 1 isn't very fair. And as you said, they definitely did something to hurt him physically. Probably to make it easier and make sure he didn't try to struggle or fight back as they took care of tying and locking him up out of the way.

Considering he showed up to Miles during the final boss fight, he wasn't chained up, but the way he was shown shows he must have been hurt. He was grabbing at his lower left rib/side, hunched over, and trying to stay balanced. He was swaying a little. His way of speech was also stressed, like he was in pain.
When he was handcuffed and tossed into that room (computer server room?) He was not able to stand, very tired, and very much out of it. Speaking was breathy and labored, like he was worn out from his struggle or whatever Betsy and Cole did.
They definitely did something to hurt him, like you said.
My guess is they likely waited for an opportunity to catch him off guard, teaming up to take him down, trapping him, and likely doing something more to make sure he doesn't try to fight back.
Near the end, when he leaves the roof after talking to Miles, I do believe he went off to find some peace for a while, think things over, and maybe try to figure out what to do and where to go from here.
He isn't exactly the type of person to give up so easily or to stop trying. At least, his character in general isn't. Doesn't give off that vibe. He's always been persistent, persevering through the hardships (getting his butt kicked and plans ruined by Spiderman or more). As well.. he seemed so genuine in wanting to turn over a new leaf. Cole and Betsy did nothing for him to actually help him move on. They didn't respect him nor his wishes. And even if Betsy WAS his childhood neighbor, even she agreed with Cole that he was always so "weird and creepy," heck. She laughed about it, betraying her statement, "That's not very nice."
Betsy was the most interested in getting the money. She used her connection with Beck to her benefit. Cole wanted to back out of it, thinking it was not worth it. Considering how Beck is, she wasn't feeling it. Wasn't feeling safe. You could hear in one of the dev logs that Cole was feeling flaky about it.
Beck was not happy. No one was. Betsy managed to secure money for funding their "get rich quick" scheme using Beck/Mysterio as the fall guy to take all the blame, since he's well-known to have done villainous acts in the past.
I still feel bad for him. He wanted to be Quentin Beck again, the special effects expert.. he didn't want to be Mysterio, the master of illusion, anymore. :( But they shot him down and didn't hear him through. They ran with their own ideas and kept brushing him off to the side. Using his own tech against him.

Dev Log Week 1
This week, all of our group members were involved in the Global Game Jam, soooo… we didn't get a lot done. Despite this, we have some highlights that are worth mentioning. In terms of actual development work, we reorganized our management structure using Jira, which none of us have used before, and we made positive steps in the realm of data management; figuring out how to store a long list of accessible developer data. We've also been listening to a bunch of Vocaloid music. It's essential research…

an update while i procrastinate all my responsibilities
so i really intended to write a newsletter this month but substack won't let me sign into my account, and when i went through customer service, they thought i only wanted to look at my newsletter, not that i was the owner of said newsletter and wanted to log into it. and then i lost the energy to push further than that. you know how it is.
the thing is, i really do have a lot i want to say, i just don't have a lot of time to write it down coherently. i've been thinking about moving to twitch and doing writing chat streams but i'm going to have to wait until things settle a little bit. i really miss meaningfully engaging on the internet. i'm on twitter a lot but it's not the same. i don't really know how twitch works monetarily yet but it wouldn't be for money as much as for funsies. the idea would be to talk about craft stuff and maybe answer questions.
(EDIT: i wouldn't put anything behind a paywall. you could just join to watch and chat.)
my roommate (she's in her 80s) is still in the hospital with covid but she's apparently doing better (?) and she's moving into a physical rehab center on monday. i've decided i need to move out because there have been some missteps by this woman's family that have made me realize i really need to live alone because "not feeling welcome" is apparently a huge trigger for me. the only person with a head on their shoulders in this whole business is my roommate's boyfriend but apparently he's not actually her boyfriend? she refers to him as her "lost love" but he's been taking care of her this whole time so clearly he does love her?? octogenarians, man.
trying to find a new place to live while teaching a 2/2 and taking 2 lit seminars and workshop is basically impossible. at least, impossible to do well. it's only week 3 and i already feel like i'm about to burn out. doing the phd from home for a year was mentally exhausting but now that i'm here in person it's also physically exhausting, because 1) the south is HOT, 2) i have to park like a mile away from campus every day, and 3) teaching dev english means i have to be way higher energy than i would for, say, a great books class or even a regular comp class.
but there are good things. i'm learning a lot. like, brain obliterating amounts of stuff. which i guess is the point of grad school, when it comes down to it. i've also made a lot of friends and there are always social events to go to (even though i'm too tired for most of them). and i'm getting a lot of writing and reading done.

Yes, I’ve seen those. Like it’s not specifically wedding rings, exactly, but making two characters be represented by pairs of rings.... merch team knows what they’re doing, made it as canon as they can. Go tell the dev team to slip those into the game.
(I think Phoenix should by default have three things logged in his court record - his attorney’s badge, his locket with Trucy’s photo, and his wedding ring from him being married to Miles.)

Dev Log #1-ish?
Seeing how I missed like two weeks of mini blog posts, I’m deeming this one an actual “Devlog” (fanfare and such yada yada). I'm just going to call it a Dev Log.
So much has gone on the last few weeks that I’m struggling to piece it all together, so here is an attempt:
Computer Adventures:
So, I don’t haven’t built a dev machine from the ground up for years now, (maybe since college?) and typically just upgrade parts as I see fit (graphics card, ram, processor, etc).
Well, my motherboard has been giving me problems for close to a year now, where it occasionally decides “yeah, don’t really care about your boot device today”, as well as other miscellaneous things that required me to do things like removing the CMOS battery or main drive. I was also running out of upgrade options, so I got a bit fed up and decided it might be time to replace it.
I wasn't going to be cost-effective to get another LGA1150 board and CPU, and I try to build computers with future-proofing in mind. I was also looking to get a smaller case too. I already had a nice GPU (GTX 1070) that I got a couple years ago before cryptocurrency “did the thing” and graphics card's prices got ridiculous, so didn’t have to worry about replacing that.
Ultimately, I decided to do a "completely new" build.
I’ve been building computers for friends and family for many years, so I literally woke up the next day and said, “I’m about to build this thing blind”.
Well, kinda learned the hard way of the hassle of going at it that way (along with committing a couple noobish mistakes)...
Shopping Time!
Lesson 1: Double check store inventory before heading to a store that's 20 miles away
Well, I choose the nearest Fry's Electronics (it was Saturday, and I really wanted to get a machine built the same day). I get there and start looking for all of the cases and motherboards (severally disappointed that they only had one Micro ATX board in stock, something I was looking to get for the more compact build, but not as restrictive as a Mini-ITX, which they had several of). Impatient as ever, I decided I was going to pick it up.
While looking at other things, I hear another customer talking to sales rep, and the rep mentions that they don’t have a certain CPU in stock. After listening even more (I’m noisy, sorry), he mentions that they have NO Intel CPUs in stock. I decided that I had to get in on this convo.
He informs up that as of late, their store may receive like, 10 at a time, and also mentions that their other location doesn’t have any either (both of these locations are 20+ miles away from me in Dallas).
I also find out that they don’t have the specific ram I was looking for either (I ended up getting something a little pricier). He ends up informing me that the Micro Center 10 minutes away from where we were should have some CPUs.
So I end up at the Micro Center and they did have the CPUs, as well as a case that caught my attention. They also had a lot of other nice things too! Kind of wished I would have known to go to Micro Center first, despite it being much farther from home.
Building Time!?
Lesson Two: Get a head-start of figuring out your plan for wire management and how pieces will fit in your new case
I got home and was ready to build. I spent a lot of time trying to get the interior wire management together since it’s a much smaller case than my last one. I ended up spending a couple of hours getting it just right (I don’t intend to go back into this machine once it’s complete since I’m nearly maxing it out spec wise for now), before moving out to everything else.
Getting my old water-cooling radiator in was a bit tough (a very tight squeeze), but after that, adding in the ram, etc was a Breeze.
Hours went by, I installed Windows, software, etc…
I go to shut it down (after having done several restarts for the software installs prior), and it doesn’t want to power off. After 10 minutes of waiting, I manually power it off. Whatever, I’m super tired at this point.
The next day (Last Sunday), I’ve encountered several other smaller issues. Updating the BIOS didn’t help either. Great…
Okay, Building Time For Real
Lesson 3: Kinda make sure things boot up and work before you get too early to clean/tighten things down in your build
After taking the whole thing apart, I ended up swapping out that mobo for another of the same kind (since Frys didn’t have any others), but then ended up ordering different board on Amazon. So waited another day or so and the new board arrived (it’s now Tuesday evening).
I rewired/rebuilt the computer once again, installed the software, etc. I spent most of Wednesday day checking in with the team and catching up with emails and such. Then Thursday as I was beginning to do some work, I noticed that the computer was saying that my Windows wasn’t activated. I go to my Microsoft account to retrieve my key, and the page wouldn’t load to provide me the key and would only show the transaction.
Lesson 4: Make sure to keep your activation key(s) somewhere other than online/digital if you can
It’s super late and the option to speak to someone was obviously closed, but they had a chat option, so I reached someone through there. After back and forth for a while, and him remoting into the machine to check the activation status, he tells me that the key might not be showing up because it was an “upgrade”, so I would need to buy another copy of Windows 10 again.
Lesson 5: Tell "Aaron" from Microsoft no over and over, and don't fall for possibly sketchy things like sales pitches that come out of nowhere
I originally bought Windows Home and upgraded it to Pro on the same day back in 2015, so I told him that and he kept insisting that I buy Windows 10 again. I refused and told him that I wouldn’t and that I’d take care of this in the morning, and he then offered that I could pay a smaller fee to reactivate my Windows 10, but it would be a one time fee of like, $40. (I refused again).
When I go to end the remote session, he then informs me that he “Really wants to help me out” and ends up activating it anyway. (This whole thing seemly suspicious, I ended up recording it). I watched him activate Windows for over 10 minutes through some manual process (it's almost 2am, and I had work in the morning). He eventually finishes and thanks/apologies. Not sure why I even had to go through all that, but whatever...
I ended up spending Friday wrapping up installs and doing a fresh system backup afterward, before moving along with pulling down the Breeze project from source control, and reminding myself of where I left off…
Anyway, long story short, I tried to get a system built in a day, and it ends up taking almost a week!
Okay, but did you get any dev done these last two weeks?
Yeah, somehow!
Health Bar and Health System:
First thing the team and I did was evaluate a few things that are critical, but we’ve been bouncing back and forth on: The Health System
(WIP of a concept we're working on for his health bar)
The reason for this is mostly for game balancing purposes:
Is this a game that focuses on having Breeze (the player) overwhelm his opponents with an array of abilities (think Devil May Cry/Bayonetta, Kingdom Hearts, God of War?)
Or is this a game where Breeze must focus on finding openings to deal damage and avoid an onslaught of danger (think Hollow Knight, Ori, Megaman, pretty much most NES/SNES platformers)
Game design… is hard at times. Sometimes you think something will work well in theory, but when you get down into the specifics, you begin to question how certain things will balance out.
You’d think something like designing a health bar isn’t too trivial, until you realize that the Health bar represents the player’s health, and the player’s health influences the character’s survivability, which is then tied to other factors: what options does the player have to “survive” and what threatens that?
Anyway, not going to get too deep into that because I lack the PhD.
Basically, there was a bit of a rift in the UI design process that led to really evaluating game design items, and I’ve been working towards seeing what Breeze’s options are and how to limit them in areas, or how I can build the world and it’s inhabitants in a way that will make this all work out.
It’s not going to be something that will likely be answered quickly, but nevertheless, that’s Game Design™ sometimes...
Frame Data:

I used to have a really convoluted way of tackling this in which I would have events in the animation that if given an ID, it will look for a set of “Frame Data” and then look for a specific frame and then load that information up.
It would then pass that frame information into the active hitbox and if something is in it, math and physics and stuff would happen.
I didn’t change this up too much, but I did reduce the setup process by allowing you to just drop the FrameData right into the frame of the animation (no more extra array and ID lookup stuff!)
New Particles:
We’ve got new particles! There’s one for jumping/landing/dashing dust, as well as one for wall sliding.
In the last update, I added a feature that generates “points” at the edges of a character’s collider box (as well as other “checks”), so this helped in making sure that the particles are created in the right place. This was especially challenging with the wall sliding particle.
Also, with the wall sliding particle, I needed to implement a way to have a “looping” particle effect, as well as making sure the particle effect follows Breeze as he’s moving down the wall
Developing Sprite Model Sheets
We've got models sheets completed for just about all of the cast members, though, since there's several artists on the project, as well as animators (including I), I wanted to get some sheets together that would work as a base for animators to use, and to eliminate elements that aren't needed in the sprites (minor details that would be seen in promotional art or more detailed art in general), as well as get a proper size for the characters in-game.
Misc. Features
I’ve done various other quality of life code changes to make it easier to do certain things, like creating new attacks, making the screen pause/slow-mo when Breeze changes forms, and updated my Debugging Manager so that I can hide/show certain debug messages.
I’ve also been working on a RoomManager, and writing features to look handle what happens when the player enters a room (like starting a cutscene, showing UI, spawning things, etc)
I’ve also been looking into updating the game’s Music Handler, mostly for how to handle looping a song after it's intro plays, as well as finding ways to add effects to tracks!
Other Breeze things:
I’ve been working on getting shirts done through Teespring, and I would have loved to show off some of the shirts I ordered, but Teespring shipped them using DHL, and somewhere between DHL and USPS, my shirts have been sitting in shipping limbo for 5-6 days, despite being like a city or two away from me… Maybe tomorrow ~
Also, working on a couple of enamel pin designs! Haven’t figured out the maker yet, but designs are coming along nicely!
Quick Test Build Coming
So, a week or two ago, I planned on releasing a quick build for the Drop Tier backers and above. There was a lot of features and such that I wanted to get done... before my computer stuff happened. Our goal was to have one out before the end up March, so....
I’m going to release one anyway. Maybe tomorrow?
I’ll be creating a post for those in the eligible tiers once I’m done compiling/building it! Please keep in mind that this build will be very minimal and exists to test out controls/physics. I wanted to make a strong first impression, but I'll chill on the whole "striving for perfection" thing for now!
Also, I'm on vacation this week, so I'll be cramming on Breeze stuff this whole week to make up for lost time!

hi! i’m sayer and i’m super excited to start writing my boy caj. i accidentally deleted my first draft of this so let’s see how this goes lmao.
caj suffers from agoraphobia and a panic disorder which pretty much ruled his life before velia and still do to a certain extent. he initially joined velia in hopes that a simulated world would be a good first step toward being around other people again, and we see how that worked out
caj dropped out of college and moved to montana when he was about 20 and his agoraphobia became overwhelming. he fixed up a small house miles away from other people and worked as a nature photographer. pretty much all of his contact with other people came through the internet and deliveries.
after it was revealed that no-one could log out of velia, caj split away from everyone and hid out by himself for a while until it became very clear that there was no rescue mission on its way. he avoided the guilds and became a crafter as he enjoyed making stuff and it gave him a reason to be away from everyone
as more people die, caj is starting to spend more time around other people in hopes that safety in numbers will outweigh the terror of numbers
plots and connections !!
repeat customer: maybe a merchant, maybe a representative for a guild, maybe just someone with a lot of money to spend on gear.
player in distress: caj found your muse being attacked by someone/something while out harvesting materials and helped out. since then they’ve gone out together a few times when in a dangerous area. maybe caj feels some sort of responsibility for their safety?
“friends?”: friends with romantic tension or fwb, something along those lines. i love this kind of drama so hmu! (any gender)
safe harbor: caj doesn’t come near crowded areas very often, but occasionally he has to. your character helped him through a panic attack and he sees them as someone trustworthy who can rely upon
confusion: caj has never really explored his sexuality and that didn’t seem like a problem when he mostly talked to his animals. now that he’s trapped here, sometimes it’s harder to control who he’s attracted to (men only)
nightmare: someone caj avoids at all costs. maybe they’re actually bad or maybe they just had a bad encounter, but they confirm all of caj’s fears about being around other people
real life encounter: someone who knew caj before velia. maybe they know each other from games or forums, maybe they followed caj’s pretty successful photography blog, maybe they even knew each other before he went off the radar!

So question for ya regarding insomniac spiderman 2 mysterio - during the side quest at some point (I think during the finale iirc) miles runs into actual Quentin who's somehow broken through the illusion stuff Betsy and Cole are doing and he's dressed normally - like he was during his first appearance and later when we see him at the other mysteriums. But then when miles confronts Betsy and Cole and finds Quentin in a closet tied up he's decked out in full mysterio gear so... When did that happen? When did he change clothes? Did Betsy and Cole like... put him in his costume for the cops (or spiderman) to find to make their plan of framing Quentin (him going "full mysterio") seem more authentic?? Unless I'm misremembering of course...
I didn't even really pay attention to that little detail, but honestly??? You make a VERY great point with this.
(the rest of my response, it got really long, sorry):
I feel like he was already injured when he shows up in the simulation as a warning to Miles as you can see he's somewhat gripping at his side and not standing straight, they must've done something to him. he was also in a hurry and panic-- they definitely caught on to him trying to fight back against what they were doing and so they took him out, decked him out, and hid him away until they were in a position to release him that would be beneficial to getting them out of trouble and pinning all the blame on him.
Either they dressed him up, or he dressed up on his own try and fight back against them (albeit unwillingly, although I do suspect at one point he tried to give them a taste of the 'Mysterio' they wanted so bad for their plan after he found out what they were planning behind his back.. after all, he had the last Dev log and it was the the clearest evidence)
(you could make an argument that they set up and faked that dev log where Betsy reacts to "Mysterio" setting up a secret scanner in the Mysteriums that scans people credit cards without them knowing and Betsy being "that's illegal, you can't do that". I mean.. She DID seem far more interested in the monetary gain from this stunt rather than actually help Quentin Beck with what he really wanted. what he wanted didn't benefit her in the slightest, but the potential to become rich from it is what got her invested.)
Also considering Miles had his clothes changed when he was inside the Mysterium simulation for the first time, his clothes changed entirely. Who's to say, Beck didn't make himself look that way on purpose to help Miles understand that that Mysterio he is fight isn't the real him. He's been telling Miles throughout that boss battle to keep doubting and being skeptical. It's subtle enough that Betsy and Cole wouldn't have noticed too much compared to if he was merely saying "That's not me, don't believe them!" which would have been very very obvious and might have caused more trouble.
Or. Potentially. He had already been wearing the outfit as a speculated him giving the two a taste of the real Mysterio they wanted so bad for this whole thing. He's definitely the type of guy to get dressed for the part he plays.
He could have been stuck in that outfit for quite awhile for all we know. Trapped inside his own Mysterium, too. He was very weak when Miles finally found him, too, so.. All we really can do is speculate and make up our own theories and probabilities to what actually occurred off screen.

rodina is such a special little game. It has so much and yet so little. It provides you both the vastness and emptiness of an uninhabited solar system. Its a cool, in-world reason to have jack shit populating these incomprehensibly enormous planets. Like literal planet sized planets. Like as you approach you think its the size of a video game planet, i.e large but traversable while on the surface. But then you keep approaching, and it keeps getting bigger. You thought you would land 2 minutes ago but it only just entered the atmosphere. And when you land, you look up to see what you thought was a bump in the ground is actually a mighty mountain, and at the top there are miles upon miles of them.
I don't mentiom this emptiness with malice or spite, I genuinley admire it, because its not the dev's fault theh have jack shit. They're a one-man-team, and the fact they have stuck with this for years and made all of this by themselves is really admirable.
Its really cool experience of fighting an alien race for control of a previously uninhabited system. I mean, it might be their home system, but their spread so few and far between that I like to think they only just arrived.
And the text logs you find scattered about hold a compelling story and deep lore. They're really the only motivator for continuing on, but it somehow works. At least for me.
Sorry this was really just an unorganized mess of ideas and opinions, but I've decided that's what I'm using this blog for.
