Devblog 6
Hi! A few critical updates. After my mother left, the laptop I was using went kaput. After a week of troubleshooting, updating, cleaning, finding, and transferring, I am now back to fully functional - with a bit of a catch.
I’m typing this on browser, on an iPad that no longer gets updates, and all of my notes will need to be typed on my iPhone 7, which stopped getting updates six months ago. Both, however, can access everything I need on browser. Everything else will go back to a paper-based system.
This will work until I can save enough for an actual desktop, and make my games and other software. I’m hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the capabilities of IOS, but only time will tell.
So, a few minor setbacks. Next, I want to unofficially announce what I’m working on. The post got deleted when the computer crashed. Boo.
Elys: A tiny mouse against the world. Fight lobsters, befriend lizards, dismantle a secret society! A visual novel RPG with original compositions, unique art, fun sound effects, and several optional mini games and puzzles.
Websites/freecodeacademy: A cat website that after completing, I’m going to update and put on my website. After updating, it’ll be a page about my cats, fun facts and care tips, and each cat has their own mini game related o their favorite things. I am also deciding how I want my professional website to look, and if I want it to be the same as my neocities website.

Starling went through quite a few redesigns through the entire development process so let me talk about it a bit :3
It all started with this notes app drawing I made with my finger

Right from the start we knew his tail would be made out of tongues but figuring out how many and placed how was quite hard, I really had to girlmath my way thru

This was the first actual drawing I made of him. The story wasn't complete yet but I went ahead and designed something anyway. Here he was definitely "scarier" and his scar was also placed differently. He had gills on his neck but as you will see I changed their location to under his arms later on. We were actually considering not giving him a tongue of his own so I wanted to make his mouth terrifyingly big and empty.

Here I tried giving him bigger eyes like a fish. This was when his playful and childlike personality had started shaping as you can see from the expressions. I definitely liked this direction better but it also wasn't perfect just yet so I went ahead and did a few more changes

I slowed down on trying to figure out his design a bit after that and instead focused on how his sprite would look. He is a merman after all, he can't just stand straight like a lot of the other visual novel characters. This stage was PAINFUL.
These were the first ones I sketched, we ended up deciding we liked the 3rd one the best.

I carried that 3rd one over to another canvas and started playing around with how we could place his tail, we started entertaining the idea of having him sit on a big rock

This is when his pose really shaped up. The animated Little Mermaid movie was actually a big inspiration, I sat and rewatched the entire movie and studied how they animated her tail

And after that I finally finalized his design. We decided to change the end of his tail to be more eel like for aesthetic purposes (normal tail shape looked weird with tongues)

And for anyone wondering this is what Maelyn looked like at first. Since the story wasn't complete yet I thought it'd take place in a more modern setting and designed her with that in mind but we decided to have the story take place in 1800s so I changed the design based on that. I did a lot of research on glasses and corsets to make the design as accurate as I could.

Yes glasses! We didn't use the sprites in the main story but Maelyn does wear glasses and looks very pretty in them if you ask me. You will be seeing more of it in the bonus episodes!

New update!
The entirety of Weeping Gods Chapter 4 is live now 🥳
Again, like every other times, this is not the final version of the chapter (or the game). There will likely be many edits and fixes later because the entire game is under development.
All saves are going to break because there are many new variables added.
Also! 😲 Weeping Gods is now hitting 500 000 words! I am truly, completely astonished. I have never written this much for one project before. Ever. It's a giant achievement. Half a million words is an enormous amount.
What's new in this update:
The entire Chapter 4 is added to the game. It's about 157 000 words. I also recalculated the average playthrough of the game, and now it hits around 80 000 words
Your group steps on the journey to Memphis to recover the missing artifacts
You get to reevaluate the fallout with Narmer
You will meet 2 new characters and get an extra weapon from one of them
You can see a random encounter scene on the road. Currently, there are only 2 variations, but I'm going to add more later
Spend a day in the new royal capital with your favorite companion
Visit the market and buy STUFF
Visit the Giza Necropolis and have an adventure inside the Great Pyramid of Giza
And after everything is said and done... learn one of the biggest secrets that your group has been keeping from you

The Doctrine of Perseverance (Re)Announcement

The Doctrine of Perseverance is an indie horror and mystery game currently in development. It is being developed in RPG Maker MV and includes visual novel elements. A freeware demo was released in 2016. At the time of initial demo release, I was a senior in high school. Since then, I have spent many years developing my art and have returned to my first project. The game is still early in development, so everything is still subject to change, but I still hope you find interest in my project! I'd like to showcase some updated portraits from the 2016 version.

Melrose, the main character. The story begins on her thirteenth birthday (this portrait not yet shown), where a traumatic house fire takes place. Three years later, on Melrose's sixteenth birthday, the events of the past manifest themselves once again, showing that what happened on that day is far from over.

Suzetta, a childhood friend of Melrose. A stark contrast to Melrose, she is upbeat, mischievous, and more often than not, the most mature in their friend group. Her father is a close friend of Melrose's mom, Florence.

Silas is a friend of both Melrose and Suzetta and also Suzetta's neighbor. His family harbors distrust toward Melrose's family and the renowned 'founding families' in the city of Noxton.
For those interested in the previous rendition of the game, @flareblitzedyt has a great playthrough and playlist featuring it on Youtube. Although, I must advice that many story elements have changed since then.
The previous demo was taken down a couple of years ago, but the game page for it is still up. I intend to update it in the future. Thank you for reading, stayed tuned for additional information and screenshots!

I am starting SQL on Codecademy today! I know nothing about databases, despite taking a class on in 2020 (😅). My sister has a bunch of photos from when she made a baking instagram and I want to make a website using them. I'm thinking a recipe that you can search based on ingredients. I'm taking a break from JavaScript, so the backend will be using Flask. I love JavaScript, but I'm a bit bored of it right now tbh. I'll try to update about this project, but this blog is kind of a mess (oops).

Happy New Year everyone!
December was busy with lots of feasting and family time, but I did manage to get a lot of writing done :) 
As always, as this year winds to a close, I want to thank all of you guys for being with me on this journey, and supporting me through everything. Your messages and love for the game always, always make every hour I spend working on Merry Crisis or CT:OS worth it. <3 Interacting with you guys is a huge part of what made 2024 so incredible for me. 
I don't know if every creator is so lucky as to feel this way,  but I honestly get out of bed every morning excited to read the new messages you guys have sent at night (though definitely time difference is a huge factor in this haha) and get started with writing!
This is the second instalment of the monthly dev logs that I'll be writing to keep you guys updated on what's been happening! (This was last month's.)

Dev Log! 1.04 BETA Release Date Confirmed & Info Dump!

I was going to post up a video update, but editing videos is time consuming!!  ​So, written devlog it is! This devlog is a long time coming. There's been some trials and  tribulations leading up to this point. There was a situation of lost coding, lack of time, and even some health issues that kept it from coming out sooner! I was hoping to have it out in March around my birthday. That didn't work out. So it's late! However, no lie, this feels like the biggest update I've ever done for Camp Gash! So, sit tight and get a snack. This may take a minute to read! I feel guilty for not saying much until now.
​ However, I'm here to rectify that! Release date for this update will be placed at the  very end of this devlog! So, here's what is all coming to the:
1.04 BETA Consequences and Scenarios Update

First off: An Inventory System!
That's right! A working, real, inventory! WOOO! I thought it was just going to be a list for now, but I figured out a system! There will be 4 categories of  items:
Consumable Items
Dialog Items
Mission Items
& Special Items
Consumable Items can be clicked on and used in the inventory. Instantly. Consumable items can help with raising and lowering your horny meter, some can be shared to NPCs, and even help your HP. <More on that detail later!

first aid kit
bandages
no-baby pill
​Dialog Items can only be used during interactions with NPC's or during certain situations. A dialog option will either appear or the MC with automatically use them. Each one has a limit to how much you can carry and use. Some dialog interactions won't be present without them!

Mission and Special Items are items you pick up during missions as an objective. 
Special items are  found in secret, given, or found in select areas. These are considered non interactable.
You start WITH ONE STARTER ITEM that you can pick while in the car ride with Moxie. You can now find items in a stick pile during the tour. It's random chance.
New Artwork!

Another part of this major update is a few new changes to the games artwork! The bridge to the player's  cabin is updated! It is no longer a sketch! The player is getting a new design for their cabin. ...Isn't it delightful?(it's trash I know!) A few new NPC sketch buttons for Carrie, Lyle, Mars, Lucian, and Lucy! I hope to have some new buttons that are finished like Moxie's soon. But, it takes a while to do! I've also resized Moxie's tour buttons so she's not a giantess. She's closer to what she needs to look like compared to the other buttons! The original buttons I created by drawing with a mouse. That's why they looked so wonky! They now have a revamp!
There's a few new MC customization options for their face!
New hair! Long flowy and Mullet(because it's the ✨​80s~!✨​)​, tired eyes, and a new nose!

The nurses station, although mostly still basically a sketch, has a back room that you can go into. A side garden at the green house and a secret 'relief' spot for the green house! Now you can jack it in peace during your groundskeeper tour!

Game Play Additions and Changes!

There are new things to customize your character and change up player experience! Many of them aren't fully implemented, but will be added in with each bug fix update and future updates. These all include:
The requested virginity option. You can now start off, by choice, as a vcard holder. This means that you can lose that vcard to other NPC's, both counselors and monsters alike. This may change up scenes for sexy time. If you tell your RO that you are a vcard holder or not! Only a few Counselors have been added to this, the monsters for the most part have this implemented! Lyle, Barb, Mars, and Kyle have reactions to this(only certain scenes!). Moxie just knows you are since the two of you are besties. The twins and Carrie,  are unfinished for now. 
The ability to choose if you have pubic hair, facial hair, and body hair. Will be implemented for scenes overtime. (facial hair not a selection for visual MC appearance yet! Still working on it!)
*Some requested that it should be an option for vagina havers (both intersex and lone vagina warriors included) to have an option to have their period during the camp week. (OPTIONAL) Not mentioned or implemented currently, but may open up more options for bloodplay. If this is selected, the game play may increase in difficulty. Monsters, not just the monstrous ROs, smell BLOOD. Attacks may increase and if hiding, yes that will be added later!,  it'll be harder to stay hidden. Survival is about to become more of a thing!
PREGNANCY. Yes, I said it. Pregnancy. Depending on the equipment your MC has - vagina, penis, or both. You are now able to become or make other NPCs pregnant. Will you know? Probably not. Only one NPC can tell you if you are. And it will only be said in passing! Practice safe sex~! Or don't. This doesn't change gameplay much, but will affect your ending. Make your game as MESSY as you want! There are items to prevent - or terminate - the pregnant variable. Condoms and the No baby pill(For MC only). If an NPC knocks you up or you knock another one up, you will gain a variable that will keep track of which one you got pregnant /got pregnant. Once the player is pregnant, unless terminated, you can not become pregnant by another. **Birth preventative items can be purchased in next update when the SHOP is implemented!
The ability to change what type of undies you wear! Briefs, Panties, and Boxers.
You can now be injured during the tour! It's random chance! 
Consequences on day 2 for fucking Barb on night one and NOT having a truce with her.
Lucian has a more complete Sleepover scene if you invite him over! This one has a story attached... I lost all of it for some reason. The coding just disappeared for some reason and I had to rewrite ALL of it. EVERY. SINGLE. THING. And I'm STILL writing it!! 😡 FUUUUUCK! You can be kinky with him or just do it vanilla! (interesting scene if you tell him of your virginity during sex~!🩸​​)
Lyle shower sex on night one (if invited to shower with him after shed sex)​
You can die during rough sex now! Yep. Keep an eye on your HP!  If your health is low during rough scenes you might die! There's consequences to your hoeing now! XD And you don't heal completely when you go to bed. You heal one notch when you sleep now. No more.  DON'T WORRY! I've placed a few first aid kits on the map on day two, if injured when you talk to Lucy on day two you she may heal you once,  and one of your starter items can be a first aid kit! Be safe! LUBE is recommended for rough sex and helps prevent injury. This can be useful for if you have a vagina and are going to have your first time roughly! Just a tip! ;)
There are new dialog options, scenarios, and sexy scenes! You can now KISS the monster at your cabin on night one! Nothing like rewarding your stalker with kiss. 💋
PROTECTIVE MONSTER is now a thing. On night one when you need saving at your cabin -if you know you know- only if your LOVE IS HIGH with the slasher or the swamp monster. (Eldritch horror has it's own idea of protection) They will come to your rescue! This unlocks a different wake up scene for day 2! ...With consequences.
NEW NPC(s)! Jackeline! She's a friend and bandmate of Lyle. This goth gal shall show up on day two after she is mentioned in Lyle and Carrie's day two conversation. She doesn't have much dialog for now but she will have MUCH MORE in the future. She will be... Helpful. Also, a serotonin boosting NPC you can find at the greenhouse on day two! Have fun with the little guy!

Fortress mode * People that leave the map no longer lose their room ownership associations * Stopped immigrants from losing their religions and some other affiliations * Added settings to customize keyboard scroll amounts * Turned off underground humanoid invasions until they are fixed * Add grazer text to creatures in unit selectors * Setting somebody to a work detail now properly disables others not in the detail * Removed ramp spaces above non-ramp constructions if the constructions are placed on ramps New graphics * Differentiated metal caps from wood/bone/leather/shell/woven caps in portraits * Images for weapon items that are artifacts / special materials General updates * Stopped certain interaction of ice and constructions from creating void tiles * Made cave-ins happen more reliably with constructions vs frozen liquids * Stopped frozen squares revealed under removed constructions from lingering * Shrubs covered with frozen water no longer lose their species when they unthaw

New update 11/10/24
CHAPTER 1 IS OFFICIALLY FINISHED!
Whoooo! I can't believe I can finally say this 😂 Damn, this was a big job. Of course, it will probably have a ton of bugs and errors, and this is only a first draft, so scenes are always up to change later.
What's new:
Around 11k words added to the demo and the whole first chapter is finished.
The files have been merged into one, so I can finally give you a word count without code as well. The new word count with code is 216 000. Without code, it's 198 000 words.
THE LINK HAS CHANGED! Dashingdon couldn't handle the new chapter 1 file, so I had to move the whole game to a new hosting site. The old dashingdon link is not going to get updated in the future! PLEASE ALWAYS USE THE MOST CURRENT LINK!

Dev update for CT:OS and Merry Crisis
Hi guys! Sorry it's been a while!
Life update
I've been so busy at work that I've barely had time to rest and hang with friends and family, let alone write as much as I need. I've still been spending some of my weekends writing, but rapidly discovering how little I can get done with just 5 or 6 hours of writing per week. (Crazy how much time IF-writing takes haha)
It's just peak busy period for my job right now before holiday season and things will calm down in December.
CT:OS
As y'all may know, I had been hoping to release the update in early Nov for early release folks and mid Nov for public folk.
I am still aiming to squeeze out the CT:OS update by end of Nov or early Dec and I wanted to let you all know where I'm at!
The scenes are about 95% written (all the way up to the end of the matches currently, I'm just finishing up the win/lose reactions and editing)!!
As of right now, the new update stands at a mammoth 90k+ words with code, but I think something like 35-40k in a playthrough, and there are new RO kisses for all ROs :)
The good news despite these delays is that this update (far from being a short pt. 2), is actually meaty enough to really stand as its own update.
Merry Crisis
I'll update again when I have a bit of a sense when CT:OS is done and how busy my December looks.
Ko-fi
Finally, because I don't want ko-fi folk to be paying out of pocket for this month as its taking a bit longer than expected, I will be refunding ko-fi monthly payments from beginning of Nov until the next update, which I hope will be before Dec.

I swear to GOD. like, i don't think i even have the bandwidth to tear that one apart but like. what is the difference between a god an a billionaire? well, i'm pretty sure a billionaire can't summon a holy fist out of the sky to punch a dragon in the face, so the everlight is one-upping them there at least, like, on the cool-factor lmao. like. i. i genuinely can't intellectually rip into that tonight i don't have the brain for it, but we all know that's stupid, right? we all know that's ridiculous? equally ridiculous to devalue the exandrian's pantheon's place as religious deities within the context of their own world. they ARE deities, they literally ARE. a god is not a billionaire. a god is a fucking GOD. WHAT IF THE WORLD WAS MADE OF PUDDING

Unreasonably long post about plural shit
So I'm gonna be honest and uncharacteristically vulnerable for a second because I think people might relate or have internalized similar things. My name is Pyre; at least that's what I'll be going by on Tumblr. I'm a fictive, some of you might've already seen me sign off on comments or something using my source name but I don't really care. Also I'm not Techno, he's open about his source. Thought I'd get that out of the way for those of you who know us. Pyre is a very Techno name though and I just stole it faster.
Anyway, to the point: We've seen posts shouting out systems/collectives who are "too similar," particularly median systems and such who experience a lot of internal fakeclaiming and imposter syndrome because of that. This is for the non-median systems who are "too similar," though. This is part a post to point out their validity, and part a post talking about my own experience so far with that.
In my source, I'm kind of a badass. I was admittedly an asshole, and very misguided, but at least within my canon (within the shows canon is questionable, we never did finish it rip) I was fighting for what I believed was right. Fighting for those who fall through the cracks for no good reason, for those that get hurt for things they can't control. If I were brought here, in this world, in my own body, I wouldn't afraid of shit. I'd gladly punt a transphobe. I wouldn't shy away from conflict; sometimes conflict is how progress happens.
In reality, I don't have my own body. And one of the things about our body is, well, its nervous system is wired to treat any small amount of conflict as a threat. We're incredibly risk averse, and this isn't a personality trait, it's built in. No one in our collective is likely to ever take an opportunity, no matter how well laid out, to call out someone being an asshole or have some witty comeback to a transphobe or whatever. We won't even think of one. That's wired into our nervous system, it's just how our body reacts to danger. We stumble over ourselves if we try to do anything other than freeze.
This isn't a fault. This wouldn't be overwritten by sheer personality and willpower in a "real system." Some systems, maybe, but not all. So for those of you who feel like you "should" be a certain way and just can't because it's built into the body you're in to act differently; you're not any lesser for it. Whether you're a fictive, sourced in some way, have a certain role that "should" be different, your personality is just like that, or some other reason I can't think of- don't be too hard on yourself for things you can't control. The body you're in just wants to protect you.
Even if sometimes, you (and I) strongly disagree with it on what exactly that means.
