Ficlet Digimon Challenge - Freestyle: Yamato & Mimi
Tumblr media
Summary: Koushirou is fascinated with getting to know the human world (and a certain human being) better. Yamato thinks that's a very bad idea. Mimi thinks he needs to stop being a sourpuss for the sake of friendship and love. [Based on the concept of The Little Mermaid Taishirou AU]
Word count: 400 technically, it's still 100 words for every character involved, so it counts?
(Yamato and Mimi had been the winners of the poll linked above, but up until Mermay, I had no idea how to write about them, so... You could say lightning really hit this time!)
„I’m against this.”
With some forceful strokes of his fishtail, Yamato swam ahead of the group. They had just discussed visiting the surface once more – and Mimi wasn’t having any of his anti-attitude, so she followed him immediately. Jyou had been staying behind with Koushirou – the culprit of the situation they currently found themselves in.
“What’s your problem?,” Mimi asked him once she had caught up, swimming a few loops around him before pointing back at Koushirou. “I mean, look at him, he’s in love!“
Yamato sighed.
“That is not ‘love’, that is… ‘Infatuation’, it’s his brain telling him that, just because he finds this world interesting, a random human is interesting too.”
Koushirou had indeed been fascinated with the human world before. His never-ending curiosity had caused them to end up going to the surface several times already and now, after he had rescued a human man from drowning, things seemed to have gotten worse. Much worse in Yamato’s eyes.
“You really are a sourpuss about this.”
Yamato sighed again, so Mimi stopped swimming in loops for a second.
“All I am saying is that Jyou is right, merfolk should not mingle with humans and we can’t risk peace down here just because Koushirou has decided to become a human-enthusiast!”
Blinking at him a few more times, Mimi simply poked his side, causing him to flinch.
“… Are you jealous, Yamato-san? Is that it?”
Looking at her as if she had lost her mind, he blinked back.
“… What?”
“You wanna meet a good-looking human to fall in love with too, admit it, you find it exciting!”
This time, he couldn’t help but groan a little bit louder. What happened that all his friends were suddenly into romance?!
“You haven’t listened to anything I have said, have you…,” Yamato said in a defeated tone, just to get poked in the cheek – a bit more softly.
“Okay, maybe don’t fall in love, but it wouldn’t harm you to make more friends. Look more closely.”
Mimi gently turned his head towards Koushirou, who was excitedly chatting with Jyou, glowing and beaming.
“Do you remember the last time he was that gleeful? Shouldn’t we support him? As his friends?”
Something in him had to agree with Mimi, it was a nice sight indeed – and he hated himself for admitting it.
“… Boy, what a soft shell I am turning out to be…”

My Adventure 02 Epilogue Evolution Lines ~ Part 1
Tumblr media
Part 2
Ever since I saw the Epilogue as a kid, I've always wondered what adventures the next generation of Digidestined would partake in. And I never understood the backlash the Epilogue received in regards to the kids having the same baby Digimon as their parents.
Thus, the WIPs were born.
My original next generation WIP idea catered more to my personal interests and what I shipped (Taiora, Mimato, Daikari) but my second WIP idea (the one I'll be talking about here) is much more canon adjacent. This second idea originally stemmed from myself challenging myself as to how I could mould the canon into my liking without entirely rewriting it.
While many of my original digivolution ideas were practically copycats of their parents, I'm much more satisfied with the evolutions I've come up with now. Many of which were inspired by YouTuber Karn EX's video, "What Would Their Partner DIGIVOLUTUONS Be? | Digimon Adventure 02 Epilogue Kids". And while they did a great job with making that video, there were a few digivolutions that I wasn't satisfied with.
When it came to coming up with digivolutions, I wanted them to be inspired by their parents without exactly mirroring the Digimon partners of their parents. At the same time, I wanted some of the Digivolutions to call back to Adventure and Adventure 02.
So for part 1, I'll be discussing the digivolutions for my WIP, Digimon Adventure 03: Inheritance, for the kids of the Adventure cast (minus TK and Kari).
First up, the son of Tai and Meiko:
Tumblr media
Koromon -> Agumon -> Tyrannomon -> MetalTyrannomon -> RustTyrannomom
While there are other options for Rookie Digimon for Makoto (the name I gave him) to have, 1.) Agumon is too iconic and 2.) there's a specific story reason as to why Makoto and Tai share the same Rookie. Tai being the leader of the Adventure cast, and one of the two partners of Omnimon, on top of being a decorated Special Agent in Charge for the National Data Processing Bureau after retiring from his professional soccer career has made quite a name for himself. And Makoto silently struggles with living the shadows of his father's spotlight in a world where Digimon and humans are living in harmony. Being a bit rebellious, he desperately hopes that whoever Koromon digivolves to, it won't be the same as Mr. Agumon's digivolution, and some doubt is cast in as Makoto's Koromon becomes an Agumon.
Initially, I had the Digivolution as Agumon, to GeoGreymon, to RizeGreymon, then to VictoryGreymon. And while I do love that evolution line, it felt lazy. Thanks to Karn EX, I realized Tyrannomon made a great replacement, while also subtly calling back to the battle between Tyrannomon and Greymon in Adventure, as well as the DarkTyrannomon that Togemon fought before digivolving into Lilymon for the first time. MetalTyrannomon is pretty similar to MetalGreymon without being a complete copycat. However for the mega, I decided to stick with RustTyrannomon instead of Machinedramon.
I also have a secret dark evolution line, for when the plot really gets going, but I won't spoil that just yet.
Next, are the children of Matt and Sora:
Tumblr media
Left: Yokomon -> Pomumon -> Parasaurmon -> Toropiamon -> Ceresmon
Right: Tsunomon -> Elecmon -> Leomon -> SaberLeomon -> DinoTigermon
For Mizuki (their daughter), I initially wanted Pomumon as the Rookie as displayed above, with Ornismon being the Mega. Being a huge, blue bird calls back to her mother's partner, Biyomon with her father's partner's, Gabumon's, color scheme. I struggled with finding a champion and ultimate stage to fill in the blanks so I figured I'd lean more into the plant dinosaur aspect of Pomumon for the digivolution. Plus, Sora saved a Pomumon in Digimon Adventure 2020, so that's a nice callback as well.
The idea for Shinji's (their son, and no, I promise not all of the names follow this similar naming convention) partner's digivolution came from Karn EX, however, they had intended it for Yokomon. I felt Tsunomon into Elecmon made more sense than Yokomon into Elecmon. Elecmon somewhat resembles Gabumon with similar blue stripes, and despite being different mammals, Garurumon, WereGarurumon, and MetalGarurumon look very similar to Leomon, SaberLeomon, and DinoTigermon, but red, which is Sora's signature color.
Also, with Pomumon turning into a dinosaur while Elecmon eventually transforms into a saber tooth tiger gives the siblings a nice, fossil, extinct animal theme with their Digimon as well lmao.
Izzy and Mimi:
Tumblr media
Left: Motimon -> Kokabuterimon -> Searchmon -> Kongoumon -> Shivamon
Right: Tanemon -> Aruraumon -> Togemon -> Ajatarmon -> BloomLordmon
So, they didn't originally end up together, and had children with other people but by the beginning of the WIP, they're happily married (it'll be explained in another post) so Umeko (Izzy's daughter) and Akihiko (Mimi's son) are siblings now, which is why they're being group together like Mizuki and Shinji lmao.
Karn EX had introduced me to Kokabuterimon from another video of theirs, so from there, I did some digging and found Searchmon and Kongoumon. Yes, they're both armor digivolutions but I think I'm allowed a few creative liberties. Searchmon being an Armor Digivolution is hardly a problem for me, no one from the Adventure 02 ever had a Searchmon, and Armor Digivolutions were seen as on par with regular Champion level Digimon. Plus, Chuumon from the 2020 remake was seen digivolving into Searchmon naturally without an Armor Digivolution, so who's to say Kokabuterimon can't as well? Kongoumon is a bit trickier, quite a few games have changed Kongoumon's level, but one game did list Kongoumon as an Ultimate, so that's good enough for me (if Digimon can change certain mon's levels to their convenience, so can I. And apparently, SaberLeomon is a Mega and was only listed as Ultimate in a specific video game...oh well, lmao.).
I won't lie to you, seeing BloomLordmon as a Mega for Mimi's son really inspired me to try to find other Megas just as cool for the others. And while I did, BloomLord and the digivolution associated with him is my all time favorite. I also loved Ajatarmon but I wasn't fond of Mushroom and Woodmon, so I needed to find a starting point. Then, I remember my OG Wip, which included a Mimato daughter who had a Aruraumon as a Rookie. All I needed then was a Champion. I saw a post on Reddit with Shurimon listed as the Champion. And while that fits PERFECTLY, I couldn't. 1.) Shurimon had been used by a previous Digidestined and 2.) Shurimon wasn't partnered with Mimi, which would've been the only excuse I could give myself for using it (sure Shurimon comes from Digi-egg of Sincerity, but using Shurimon with that excuse is a stretch). Incorporating Togemon into the digivolution (which is the only instance of a kid sharing a Champion with their Digidestined parent) is not only fitting but shows just how fluid digivolutions can be.
And finally, Joe's son:
Tumblr media
Bukamon -> Syakomon -> Shellmom -> WaruSeadramon -> Gigaseadramon
Originally, I was gonna give Yuji a Gomamon. But then, I came up with this.
Hear me out, lmao. It's a little all over the place, but for starters, there aren't as many of a variety of aquatic Digimon, specifically, aquatic Digimon that can dwell on land as well. And Gomamon doesn't seem to have a variety of options other than Ikkakumon or Dolphmon.
I came across Syakomon for another post I made on assigning Digimon partners to Descendants characters, and I felt Syakomon was a great starting point. Shellmon and WaruSeadramon share a similar color palette, and given that Yuji will bear the Crest of Adaptability, WaruSeadramon to Gigaseadramon makes perfect sense. Apparently, other Digimon digivolve into WaruSeadramon in wickedness from what I've researched, but we can skip over that, right? Honestly, I might have a solution for it if I need one, considering I already have Makoto and another next gen Digidestined going through dark digivolutions for plot reasons.
Next part will include the children of T.K, Kari, Davis, Cody, and Ken and Yolei.

List All the Titles of Your WIPs Challenge
I got tagged by @leo112358 (you may know him as @the-digimon-tamer). Please check out his WIP challenge!! Thanks for the tag, leo! :)
I get to talk more about my fics this weekend? Amazing. <3
[This is Noct paraphrasing I guess] There are no set rules, but it looks like what this challenge is about is to list the titles of your WIPs as the challenge says, and talk a bit about them. Ooh, I have a bit to talk about. A blessing and a curse, I tell you!
Then, you have to tag three writers. @ahiddenpath @patamon-ears @sakurarebin Don’t feel obligated, but also, talk my ears off please. <3
ANYWAY, what is Noct up to? :D
...She’s up to a lot.
Here are my current WIPs, varying in length and % of completion, but at least have a scene written out. Listing in no particular order.
Effervescent Fires - This one is not Digimon, but all I want to reveal for now is that it’s for Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s.. biographical XD
The Spark of Dawn (Part II of DoreDore Adventure) [ Takari, Taiora, Mimato, Kenyako(!) ] - I’ve talked a little bit about it in a recent ask. I’ve just been making sure I’m laying out the framework and building to some really spectacular scenes. At least, in my head. I cannot write this (or any of my fics) fast enough. (Series in progress on AO3 | FFN)
Make It A Double - [ Taiora ] The sequel to Just One Drink, an Adult AU that’s ...kinda... spicy. I can’t say anymore, and I don’t think there’s any more to be said. ;)  (Read the first fic on AO3 | FFN)
Digital Recovery - [ Gen :) ] The Chosen reach adulthood wondering why they are the way they are, and what connection do they have to each other?
YES I’m still writing this!! Since I last updated, exposition’s coming up, as well as the set up for the next arc of the story. I can’t believe I’m emotionally torturing these poor kids.. (Fic is in progress on AO3 | FFN)
The Last One Wins - Taichi and Yamato place a silly bet with each other. 02 Epilogue compliant. Anyone from the Discord reading this, yeah - I’m still working on this, too.
Dreams and Masquerades Sequel (no title yet) -  T A I O R A T O
I’m sure you can find it on AO3 :3
The Girl Who Stands Out - Mimato, anyone? :) Mimi moves back from America and transfers to Odaiba High School. Yamato tries to figure out how to handle his feelings. Romance, Drama right now, I’m thinking.. - looks like this plot bunny is getting some happy pets :)
Solid Walls of Sound - A Sorato romance!! This one might be a long fic.
OTP Battle - I am keeping this one a secret for now.
Tsukiakari - [ Taiora ] Sora woke up with no memory of who she is or what happened to her. Meanwhile, her digimon partner has reborn and remembers EVERYTHING. - (Fic in progress on AO3 | FFN)
I struggle with restraint and organization (on top of the ridiculous mess that is called Real Life) so I hope you can all bear with me while I try to spill these out of my brain and into Google Docs.

Tumblr media
For Yamato, life was pretty good. Above-average grades, bassist and main vocals in a band, and a good set of friends.
But for his best friend Mimi, life was…just okay.
She had average grades, she was not part of a band despite Yamato encouraging her to share her voice, and a few friends. But that was fine by her. She knew Yamato’s other group was not the best, but at least she was sure that hers were honest and liked her for who she was.
She had tried telling Yamato about his side, even his younger brother Takeru agreed with her. But he would not have it. She gave up at some point, at least he still hung out with her. What would she do if her childhood and best friend stopped talking to her? Although he was a year older, he did not treat her as if she was a kid.
“Are you going to the gig?” he asked, leaning on her desk.
Mimi sighed. “I don’t know.”
“What do you mean you don’t know, of course you’re going.”
She pouted. “It’s Valentine’s Day.”
“So?”
“There’s going to be a crowd,” she replied. “And they’re each bringing their own dates, which is twice the crowd.”
Yamato snorted. “I’ll save you front row seats.”
Mimi thought for a while. “On the house?”
He smirked.
“Okay, I’m going.”
He grinned. “Great!” He stood up straight and began to walk away. “I’ve got practice, I’ll see you later.”
She brought her hand and gave it a slight wave. When he had disappeared, her friend Koushiro replaced him. “Taichi and Sora are waiting for us outside,” he said. “Or are you going to wait for him?”
She looked at Koushiro then at the door. “No, let’s go.”
It was not unusual for her and Yamato to head home together. After all, they were next-door neighbors. However, it was getting rarer and rarer. With him having band practice and hanging out with his friends, she would find herself either going home alone or with her other smaller group.
When she arrived home that day, she peeped out her window, splitting the blinds with her two fingers, and looked for any signs of Yamato. Albeit she knew that he was still practicing, it was sort of a habit of hers now. When she first started going home without him, she would take a peek to see if he had arrived home, she was excited to know what had been going on with him.
Unfortunately, often he would come home too late and she would be too tired to talk. So she stopped waiting. Well, that was what she would say to herself.
When she saw no signs of him, she walked away from the window and flopped on her bed. Grabbing a magazine from her floor, she flipped through it before pausing at a headline.
“Thirty, flirty, and thriving,” she murmured. “Hm.” She scanned the cover and found attractive women, seeming to be in their thirties, who had their own little story to share. She twisted the magazine sideways and down before throwing it back down on the floor. “If only.”
Later that night, after dinner and back in her room, Mimi heard Yamato’s voice. He was talking to someone and laughing at what the other person had said. She frowned before shaking her head. She pulled up her blanket, turned off her lamp, and closed her eyes.
Valentine’s Day had arrived and Mimi tried her best to push her way to the front of the bar where the mini-stage was. When she finally reached it, she let out a sigh of relief as she sat down.
“Hey, you made it!” Yamato grinned while he approached her. “Are you doing okay?”
She nodded. “Big crowd,” is all she said.
“Yeah.” He nodded as he scanned the place. “Hey.” She looked up at him as he took out his phone and focused it on her. “Smile.”
Mimi giggled and did as she was told.
Yamato had a knack for taking pictures of her. It all started when she admitted that she liked cameras, she loved cameras. Because they help keep fond memories together. Yamato surprised her once, with a small, colorful camera. She was the first one he ever took a picture of…and so far the only.
“I’ll be up in a bit. Need anything?”
She shook her head. “I’m good.”
He smiled. “Come backstage for me after the show.”
“Would they let me in?”
He chuckled and then leaned down and whispered, “The password is ‘harmonica’.”
She let out a soft laugh. “Okay.”
The show was great. The band was getting better and better, she had to admit. Yamato was the best among them all and she was proud to have him as a best friend. She grinned the whole way through the gig, feeling very, very proud.
When it was done, she took a few minutes to allow the crowd to disperse before walking to the back. The security had held her back but when she used the word “harmonica”, she was surprisingly let in. She found Yamato chatting with a girl, she did not know her so she probably was not from school. What surprised her though, was when he leaned down and kissed her.
Mimi did not know what was happening. One minute she was standing backstage. Next, she was on a bench underneath an oak tree. She replayed the scene over and over again, taking deep breaths as she did. Her hands gripped the edge of her skirt and she suddenly began to sniffle.
What was happening to her?
She sobbed. If she was more than who she was now, would he notice her?
Oh no. She wanted Yamato to notice her. Oh no.
She shook her head. Remembering the magazine she had flipped through a few days ago, she wished to become like one of those successful women. She needed to be one of those successful women.
“Thirty, flirty, and thriving. Thirty, flirty, and thriving,” she chanted as the wind became stronger and stronger. Continuing her mantra even with tears and quivering lips, she hugged herself. “Thirty, flirty, and thriving. Thirty, flirting, and thriving….”
And again, she found herself in a place she did not know where.
She stared at the ceiling. That was not her ceiling. The bed she was lying on was too comfy. And there was a man sleeping beside her.
She froze. There was a man sleeping beside her.
She slowly pushed herself up from the bed, careful not to wake up her companion, whoever he was. Thankfully, she was fully clothed, as was the man. There were glasses on his bedside table and she wondered if she knew anyone wearing them.
“Um…hello?”
He did not budge.
She poked him. “Hello?”
Again, no movement.
She frowned and finally shook him. “Hello!”
The man jerked away and turned around to face her. “It’s still so early, Mimi.”
“Early?” she wondered. She looked around and found an alarm clock on her side table. It was 10:34 A.M. on a Thursday. “I’m late for school!”
The man sat up and rubbed his eyes. “What are you talking about?”
“It’s ten-thirty on a Thursday, my attendance record is ruined!”
The man looked at her quizzically. He grabbed his glasses and put them on. “It’s too early for jokes, Mimi.”
“I’m not—wait, I don’t even know who you are! Who are you? I don’t know where I am! Where am I?”
The man sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose, his glasses hanging by the tips. “I’m not in the mood for jokes, Mimi.” He stood up from the bed and headed out of the room.
It was then that Mimi became terrified. What was happening? She looked down. She was still in her body but were those…did she have boobs now? Her eyes widened. “No way.” She turned her head left and right and found a full-body mirror nearby the window. Scrabbling off of the bed and running to the mirror…she nearly screamed, or maybe faint, whichever, at what she saw.
It was her. Definitely her. Just taller. Looked a little older. And with boobs.
She looked around the room. “This is a dream,” she murmured. She dashed out the room, barefoot, and inspected the whole place. It was obviously an expensive flat. Were her parents here, too?
“Mama! Papa!” she called. “Mama! Papa!”
A door opened and out came the man looking less sleepy. “Why are you calling for your parents?”
“Aren’t they here?”
“You’re acting really weird, Mimi.”
“Stop calling me by my name! I don’t even know who you are!”
The man groaned. “I’m going to prepare for work.”
‘He didn’t answer me!’
She was just about to march towards the man again when a phone rang. She recognized the ringtone. So she knew it was hers. It was loud and ringing but she had no idea where it was.
“Mimi!” the man shouted.
“I’m looking!” she shouted back.
She did her best to follow the ringing and she found the phone on the couch. She looked down at the caller and saw Hikari Yagami on the ID. She grinned and then answered. “Hikari!”
“Oh, good morning, Mimi. I’m sorry to call so early but—”
“What’s happening?” Mimi demanded.
“Um. Your meet and greet session was moved to one P.M. rather than its later schedule, and a song re-recording, too. But you’re free the rest of the day.”
“Hikari! Do you know what’s happening?”
“I…what do you mean?”
“Can I see you now?”
“Of course. Would you like to meet at the office?”
“I don’t know where I am.”
“I don’t understand….”
“I don’t know where I am,” she repeated.
Hikari stayed silent. “Maybe I should come to you.”
“Good. Great. Good idea.” She sighed in relief. “Please hurry.”
“I’ll do my best.”
Even though it only took half an hour, Mimi felt as if she was waiting for thirty years. The man was still inside the room and so she could not get changed and was instead pacing by the door.
Finally, a knock and she opened the door all too quickly.
“You know better than to open the door without looking, Mimi,” Hikari deadpanned as she entered.
“Sorry,” Mimi said with a nervous chuckle. Once she had closed the door, Hikari was already in the living room. “Hikari.”
“Are you okay, Mimi?” Hikari asked once she had settled down on the couch. Mimi followed and sat close to her. “You seem out of it. And you aren’t…dressed.”
“I am out of it,” Mimi replied. “I don’t know what’s happening.”
“That’s alright. It was a pretty late night when we brought you home. What don’t you remember?”
“Everything!” Mimi nearly yelled. “One minute I was in a park, the next thing I knew I was waking up with a man beside me! And I look much older!”
Hikari cocked her head. “But we didn’t go to the park. And Jyou stayed over to tuck you in properly. And you don’t look any older to me.” She squinted. “You’re perfect, as always.”
Mimi pursed her lips. “Hikari,” she said quietly. “I think my wish came true.”
“What wish?”
Mimi sighed and whispered, “Thirty, flirty, and thriving.” But Hikari heard her clearly as she raised an eyebrow. “I saw it in a magazine a few days ago and…,” she trailed off. “I wished it after I saw…well, it’s embarrassing really.”
Hikari smiled. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to.”
Mimi shook her head. “What is happening, Hikari?”
Hikari stayed quiet, she looked as if she was thinking. “I’m still confused. I don’t know what’s really happening to you. Could you start from the beginning?”
And so Mimi did. She repeated the magazine slogan and recalled what had happened the night before…or whenever that was. When she had finished, her head was bowed down, a frown on her face. She waited for Hikari to laugh or tell her that she was losing her mind, but she heard nothing. She looked up and saw her biting her bottom lip.
“So that’s how it is,” she said.
Mimi nodded.
They were silent until a door closed and she looked up to see the man, whom she remembered Hikari saying was Jyou, stepped out and walked over to her. He nodded at Hikari and greeted her. “You’re here early.”
“Mimi needed some help.”
“Oh. Well, that makes sense. She’s been acting a little weird this whole morning.” Jyou shrugged and kissed Mimi’s forehead when he was close rough, making the girl blush. “I’ll see you, okay. I’m not sure if I can stay over tonight.”
“Um…uh…well….” She did not know what to say. She turned to Hikari for help, the younger girl nodded slowly as if telling her to keep up the charade. Mimi cleared her throat. “Yeah, sure. That’s fine. I’ll see you.”
Jyou lowered his head and kissed her, making her jerk slightly, surprised. When he had stood up straight, he waved goodbye, and headed out the door. When he closed it from the outside, Mimi whined. “That was my first kiss!”
Hikari smiled, looking amused. “I’m sorry he stole it.”
“And I don’t even know who he is!”
“That’s Jyou Kido. He’s supposed to be your boyfriend. He’s a very successful doctor. You met when you had a bad accident on stage.” She tilted her head. “But…I think you’ve always liked someone else.”
Mimi looked at her. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Hikari shook her head. “So, where do you want to start.”
It turns out, Mimi was now a successful singer. She had begun singing when she reached high school, finally succumbing to the pressure of her family and friends cheering for her to share her voice. She ended up enjoying it and was discovered by a producer. She remained friends with Taichi, Hikari’s older brother, Sora, and Koushiro. Hikari had become her PA, which Mimi wondered about knowing that she had always wanted to become a teacher. Hikari had married Takeru, Yamato’s younger brother. Which led to the question she had dreaded.
“What about…Yamato? He’s your brother-in-law now, right?”
Hikari cast her eyes down. “You two…just drifted apart.”
“Oh,” was all Mimi could say. Hikari looked back at her. “What’s he doing now? Is he still part of a band?”
Hikari shook her head. “No. He stopped playing. He still has his harmonica, but he’s now a photographer.”
“Photographer?” Mimi asked in surprise. “Why?”
Hikari shrugged. “He suddenly found a new love for it. He’s very good at it, too. You should see his works. I mean, you’ve seen them but why not see it now?”
But Mimi was not thinking about his photos. Instead, she was wondering why she and Yamato had fallen apart. What had happened? Did she do anything wrong? Did he do anything wrong? ‘There’s got to be some explanation.’ She returned to listening to Hikari talking about his achievements. “Do you know how we drifted?” she interrupted. “Or why?”
Hikari paused. “I…um…you…well.”
“Well?”
Hikari took a deep breath and exhaled. “It was after that Valentine’s Day gig. The one you said you were in before you woke up at this moment. He looked for you after, but you left. At first everything was fine, but you suddenly started to become distant, then avoided him. We all wondered about it but you never told us why. Yamato gave up when he graduated and well…you guys just never spoke to each other again. You never even asked me for updates.”
Mimi sat there, mouth slightly agape. She tried to process the story. There has got to be a mistake, right? She would never distance herself away from Yamato, she would never avoid him. In fact, if they did drift apart, she was pretty sure that it would be him distancing himself away her, it would be him avoiding her. But her do that to him? No way. There must have been some understanding.
“That…maybe there was a misunderstanding? I’m sure there’s an explanation.”
Hikari shook her head. “You’d never say.”
Mimi sighed. Maybe that kiss between Yamato and the girl hit her more than she thought. No, it definitely did. “Where does he live?”
Hikari’s eyes widened. “You want to see him?”
“Of course. Maybe…I can fix things. Did he say anything about me, since we…you know, went our separate ways?” It hurt just to say that.
Hikari lowered her head and squirmed in her seat. “Not…really.”
Mimi felt her stomach drop. “Oh.”
“Do you think it’s a good idea to see him again?”
“I can try,” she replied without much thought. “Who knows, right?”
Hikari nodded. “I suppose.”
Later that day, after she pried the younger girl for the address, pressured her to cancel the day’s plans, helped her with her outfit to make sure no one would recognize her, suggested some choice of words and filled in some blanks between her middle school self up to the “present”, and a pep talk, Mimi was ready to go.
Luckily, the city did not change much, and she knew the building Hikari had given her. It was a bit far from the hustle and bustle, it was very Yamato. When she had arrived and stood in front of the door, she shifted from foot to foot before knocking lighty. She heard nothing for three seconds, and it made her change her mind. Just as she was about to turn, the door opened, the chain still in tact.
There stood Yamato. He looked older, and much taller. But he was still very handsome.
“Uh. Hi.” Mimi was nervous, she gripped her purse tightly. She was not even sure if he would se through her disguise. “I…um….”
But then he shut the door. Mimi blinked, wondering if he was that mad at er. Then he heard a clank of the chain and Yamato opened the door once again, this time, wider. This surprised her. Yamato leaned on the door, his eyes scanning hers.
“I…it’s me,” she started. “I don’t know if–”
“Mimi Tachikawa,” he said softly.
“Uh. Yeah.”
Yamato sighed. “What are you doing here?”
“I…it’s a long story really. But I don’t think you’d believe me.”
“Try me.”
Mimi opened her mouth but closed it at the last minute. “It’s my fault isn’t it,” she said instead. “That we’re in this situation.”
He sighed. “I guess you can say that.” They heard voices along the hallway and he instructed her to get in. She did as she was told and he apologized for the mess. Or, what he called a mess.
“Do you want anything?”
“No, it’s alright.”
Yamato nodded and gestured towards his sofa. Mimi sat down and then watched as he followed.
“What can I do for you?” he asked.
Mimi stared at him for a while. When he gave her a questioning look, she laughed nervously. “It’s so nice to see you.”
He looked taken aback, but his face softened and he said quietly, “Likewise.”
“I heard you were into photography now.”
Yamato blushed but nodded. “Yeah. I realized I’m better at it then I thought.”
“You were always good at everything.”
This made him smile. “Thanks.”
Mimi took a deep breath and said, “I’m sorry about what happened between us, Yamato. I think we should start over again. We can rekindle our friendship, pretend nothing had happened in these past years. Hikari told me it was my fault and I’m sorry.”
“What do you mean Hikari told you it was your fault? You didn’t know?” His gritted his teeth.
Mimi shook her head. “That part isn’t important. But I do want to be friends with you again. If this situation is going to go on forever then I don’t want to be in bad terms with you.”
He huffed. “You can’t just turn back time.”
“Why not?”
“It doesn’t work that way, Mimi!” he shouted.
Mimi jerked back.
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “What you did hurt, Mimi. What happened hurt. You were my best friend and you just left me. You might think it didn’t bother me but it did. It really did. And I never got an explanation! You just up and left! I forgive you, Mimi, I really do. But I don’t want to get hurt again.”
“I’m not going to hurt you,” she said softly.
Yamato shook his head. “You’re a successful singer, Mimi. And I’m just a photographer. Whatever happens…our relation–friendship, wouldn’t work. And anyway, you’ve got Jyou Kido now.”
“So?”
Yamato looked away. “It doesn’t matter,” he muttered. “I think you should leave, Mimi.”
“But, Yamato–”  But before she continued, a picture behind him caught her attention. “Is that me?” she asked. She stood up and walked over to the wall. “It is me!” It was her in a recital, probably from high school, recognizing the uniform. She looked beside it. It was her on stage. Then another. And another. And another. They were all her.
“Why do you have pictures of me framed on your wall?”
Yamato turned away. “It’s creepy, I’m sorry.”
Mimi looked at the photos again. “You took all these?”
He nodded.
“They’re…perfect.”
“They’re not that great.”
“I think they are, and–” Another picture caught her eye. It was on his sidetable by his bed. She walked over to it while Yamato told her to stop. She did not. Instead, she picked up the picture frame. “It’s us.”
Yamato sighed. “It was the last photo we took of us together.”
“Oh.”
“I think you should go.”
“But–”
“Go, Mimi. Please.”
Mimi felt her heart ache. “Okay,” she said. She placed the picture frame back on the table and walked past him. But just as she did, he heard her say, “I’ve always loved you.” Her eyes widened but her feet did not stop moving. She opened the door, closed it behind her, and walked away.
She did not break down until she sat on the bench under the big oak tree. If only she could turn back time again, she would. She wanted to make everything right. She did not want this future, or present, or whatever this was. She did not want it.
“I want to go back,” she whispered. “I want to go home.”
The wind was strong and her hair was flying all over the place.
“I want to go home.”
And when she opened her eyes, it was night time again. There were no people around, but she was in the same spot. She looked down at her clothes and smiled when she saw the they were the same as the night of the Valentine’s Day gig, she stood up and jumped for joy.
“I’m back!” she shouted with glee. “I’m back!”
“Mimi!”
She turned to the side and saw Yamato sprinting towards her.
“Mimi!” When he stood close to her, catching his breath just a little, he said, “I didn’t see you backstage.”
“I…um…,” she began. But the memory of Yamato kissing the unknown girl flashed in her head. After taking a few deep breaths, she smiled and shook her head. “I had to clear my head. Too stuffy in there.”
Yamato nodded. “Yeah, it was. I was worried. You should’ve at least messaged me.”
“Sorry.”
He walked closer to her. “What did you think of the last song?”
“Perfect for the day,” she answered. “Crazy for You is such a classic. I’m actually surprised you guys did a good rendition of it.”
“Yeah. It was, wasn’t it…,” he trailed off.
“Listen,” she started, “whatever happens, we’re going to be best friends forever, okay?”
Yamato blinked. “Where is this coming from?”
She sighed. “I…know that after what I saw I was going to make a huge mistake, probably the biggest mistake of my life.”
“What did you see?” he asked.
She realized what she had said. Although she wanted to make something up, she knew telling him the truth was the best. “I saw you kissing someone  backstage,” she said quietly. “I…I got jealous. And…I did things I was not happy with.”
“What do you mean ‘did’?” He sounded very confused. “What are you talking about?”
“It’s a long story,” she groaned. “What I’m trying to say is, I promise nothing is going to come in between the two of us, okay? Not even that girl I don’t know.”
Yamato stayed silent. “It was a test.”
“A test?” Mimi cocked her head.
“I wanted to see if there could have been something between me and her.”
“And was there?” She did not want to know the answer but here she was asking anyway.
“None.”
“Oh.”
He stepped forward. Mimi did not step away. Then, he leaned down and caught her lips. It was sweet and innocent. She liked it. She loved it. When they had separated, she asked, “What was that for?”
“That was another test.”
“Did I pass?”
He nodded.
“Do you think I’ll still pass when we’re older?” She remembered the relationship she had with Yamato in the future, she definitely did not pass back then.
Yamato raised his arms and held onto her shoulders. “No matter what age, young and lively, or old and gray, you’ll always pass.” He leaned down again, this time she met him halfway. “Don’t leave me,” he whispered, his lips hovering hers.
This startled her, as if he knew what was going to happen if she had walked away. “I won’t,” she responded just as softly. “I won’t.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Mimi.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day, Yamato.”

So i’m watching digimon tri for the first time, and I wouldn’t say that the show is trying to dissuade you from shipping mimato. They do have Mimi interacting more with the Yagami siblings. But not the Ishida siblings.
I’m gonna be honest, I love Jyou and Mimi together, and I don’t think all that much about Mimato, but the writing’s weird.
I’m not sure why, but while everyone seems to be excited to see Mimi---who’d just come from America, mind you---he’s just more focused on something Taichi said. Which is sort of forced and weird writing in the first place. Like clearly, romantic or not, she should be the center of the scene since she is part of the digi gang. And it’s a reunion! She’s not a side character either.
But it is very funny to me that they write themselves into a hole. Subtextually. Mimi tells Sora that Taichi and Yamato have both gotten very handsome, and asks he what she’s going to do about it. Implying that a) Mimi is aware of their close relationship and that Yamato and Taichi are handsome.
She also isn’t very worried about Yamato and Taichi fighting, and she calls them true friends, which implies that she understands their personalities well. The other thing is, Mimi is the complete opposite of Yamato, since she’s, I quote, not afraid of saying whatever she wants to say, and she hates complaining about it later.
I find that interesting, since they would have a lot of chemistry. Not quite opposite attracts. Very much similar personalities, like he shows a lot of passion and dedication to his band to create a certain image, and Taichi and Takeru troll him about it. He also loses his temper easily. He also challenges Taichi. He’s also the closer one to Taichi.
Mimi WANTs to be herself and have fun even if her idea is embarassing to a lot of people, placing an importance on confidence and being yourself. She just wants to wear what she likes and be herself, and everyone else can deal with it! Which is interesting. She often can see right through Jyou. Like, he’s out here in the rain and he’s talking about how he’s supposed to be an adult, and Mimi says what she wants to say, “So you’re skipping your cram school.” Like very good at reading each other.
The thing is, Yamato and Mimi are both very strong perosnalities, and that’s a good thing. They’ll challenge each other. They’ll understand each other. They possess emotional intelligence and confidence, and they know when to put their foot down. I think it’s pretty healthy.
But those are just my thoughts haha, while watching Tri.

Mimato Colors
Day 6: Pink 🩷

the courage that comes to visit
☀️ haruhiko + taichi // first meeting i was craving taiora so badly and decided to just go for it (?) this afternoon i found a half-written draft for @taioraweek and challenge myself to finish it. this was for day 1, and the prompt should be first meeting. but i had a hunch that everyone was going to write about taichi and sora's actual first meeting, so i was thinking for an alternative... and ended up writing about taichi's first meeting with haruhiko a.k.a. sora's father. this was set when taichi and sora were in their 3rd grade, before the digiworld stuff. btw, will there be a taiora week this year? how about a mimato week? can i just have a @digiotpweek so that i won't have a lot of wips? hi admin, maybe i can help to mod the event this year??
___
There were noises in the house; noises that he had not yet accustomed with other than the click-clack of his keyboard. The distant roar of the capital’s traffic. The subtle clangs of the wind chimes as the gentle summer breeze passed the balcony. The muted sound from television with its entertainment show. The less-amiable grumble of a woman, sometimes argued by the voice of a younger girl in distress.
Then, a ring of the bell.
He ignored purposely, folding his hands as he waited.
The bell rang twice.
Lifting himself from the sofa, he stood behind the apartment corridor, watching the door at the other end instead of the main one.
The guest became impatient as the bell came thrice in a rapid.
The argument kept rolling despite the consecutive echoes, so he gave in. “Coming,” he sighed as he walked to the entryway, opening the door to find a wild-haired boy in a red jersey along with a soccer ball and spikes inside a string bag. Judging by his height, he was probably somewhere in elementary age.
They both blinked in confusion—a signal that they were strange to each other.
“Oh.” It was the boy who decided to speak up first. “I’m very sorry for my intrusion. Takenouchi-san, isn’t it?” The boy then bowed to show his respect. “I think this is the first time we meet. My name is Taichi Yagami. I’m a friend of Sora.”
“Taichi.” Still with a puzzled look, Haruhiko Takenouchi repeated the name to get himself familiar. “How can I help you today?”
“Actually, I’m here to pick up your daughter. I called earlier, and we agreed to walk together to the training.”
It was funny that he never heard the phone ringing, even though he had been sitting in the living room for the entire day. However, it wasn’t his workaholic attitude that became problematic for now. With a concerned look, Haruhiko once again glanced to that door behind. This was definitely not a perfect time to accept a guest, but this boy was his daughter’s guest. He had no right to shoo Taichi away, especially after he said he already got an appointment.
Haruhiko opened the door a bit wider. “Would you mind waiting for a few minutes inside?”
Taichi stared at him curiously but decided to follow suit. He politely excused himself, taking off his shoes before placing them neatly on the rack. Haruhiko guided him to the living room, where he still had his laptop above the table. Indeed, serving Taichi a glass of cold tea was a form of distraction, but it was hard even for Haruhiko to pretend not to hear the ongoing debate in the other room.
“Say, Taichi,” Haruhiko opened up a conversation after they sat together. “You’re in the same class with Sora, too?”
Taichi responded with a nod. “It’s our second time. We were also classmates back then in the first grade.”
“Hold on. You lived in Hikarigaoka?”
“I did. My family moved to Odaiba after… well, you know.”
He knew. Some headlines named it a terrorist attack, but Haruhiko had a gut that it was something more. That was why he fought so hard to raise this issue as a research topic, until finally, a university in Kyoto put interest in it, which led him to his current career.
“But I never paid a visit to Sora’s house back then,” Taichi added. “I guess that’s why we’ve never met before.”
Haruhiko smiled knowingly. They just finished moving to Odaiba when he finally received the endorsement and job offer to become a lecturer altogether. Sora was still adjusting herself to a new school, and she barely finished her first year of elementary, so Haruhiko thought it would be hard for her to migrate once again. He decided that he would make the sacrifice of living in Kyoto alone, sparring some time on the weekend to catch a bullet train back to Tokyo. It was actually a rare sight of him being in the house on a Thursday morning like this.
A muffed yell suddenly came from the distance. Still, it was the loudest one yet from Sora this morning that managed to make Taichi a bit startled from his seat. Perfect time for another distraction, it seemed, and Haruhiko decided to choose a rather important question.
“How’s Sora in school?”
Human behaviour was not his focus field. However, being an academician, he was practised to sense the littlest change—like how he noticed the probability that Hikarigaoka Tragedy was caused by something inhuman. It was the same way he caught a flicker on the little boy’s eyes as they returned to look in each other’s face.
“Sora is the nicest kid in the world!” Taichi exclaimed. “Well… it’s kinda weird to say that she’s a ‘kid’ because she is so mature for her age. She is very kind to everyone, to the level that she will put the interest of others before hers. She is also good in class. She always helps me with the homework and materials I don’t understand, and I don’t understand about a lot of things! She patiently teaches me, even when my mother was so overwhelmed to the point she almost strangled our house cat!”
This kid was a joker—a good one. Haruhiko cracked with a laughter, but apparently, Taichi wasn’t finished with his proclamation.
“But the most important thing is she is so, so brilliant at football,” he continued, still earnestly. “I’ve been playing with Sora since we first moved here. Everyone in the team underestimates her because she’s a girl, but she manages to prove herself worthy. She’s one of our aces, and thanks to her, our team won some important matches.”
He paused for a breather. “I like her…” —that statement almost gave Haruhiko a heart attack before Taichi prompted without a doubt, “I like her the best when she plays football. She looks so confident and happy.”
Yet when he said that, his tone gradually faltered. The boy looked down as if he was inspecting his white socks before he ventured to ask.
“Are you going to stop her from playing?”
It was Haruhiko’s turn to pause. He could not hide the surprise on his own face, even though he was able to predict the reason why Taichi asked the question. The quarrel between Sora and her mother had been the background of their whole conversation, and it was audible that the fight was about Toshiko’s dislike of Sora being overly active at the football club. This had been a problem in their household for quite a time, and while Haruhiko felt guilty about it, it wasn’t his zone to step in.
But there was this boy, sitting in front of him with imploring eyes, waiting for an answer. Haruhiko finally gave him a tiny smile, realising he could raise his own opinion in this zone.
“Why do I have to stop her when she doesn’t want to be stopped? You know Sora is a tenacious young lady.”
It was obvious that Taichi agreed with the statement because he then grinned so wide. The expression didn’t last long, though, after they heard the sound of a slamming door with a girl yelling, “Whatever! I’m late for the training!” Sora then appeared in the living room. Her eyes were not really teary, but her cheeks reddened; most probably because she was upset, but now also with a feeling of embarrassment because Taichi was there.
She then huffed, grabbing the duffle bag that was leaning on the phone desk. “Let’s go, Taichi.”
Taichi, who was staring at her worriedly, finally mumbled as a response. He thanked Haruhiko for the drink and followed Sora into the entryway, only to find Toshiko standing at the end of the corridor. Sora refused to turn around and face her mother, but oddly, Taichi was the one to do so. He approached Toshiko, much to Haruhiko’s surprise as he observed from the verge of the living room. He couldn’t help but wonder what Taichi would do. Haruhiko had learned that this kid was quite bold, so he was worried that Taichi was going to vent everything he said earlier. That would only make the whole situation worse.
However, what he did then was somewhat unpredictable. He bowed himself with such respect before saying loudly, Thank you for taking care of Sora!”
Haruhiko was stunned, and so was Toshiko. Taichi made his way to the entryway, wearing his shoes quickly before finally walking out with Sora. It took a while for the husband and wife to come to their senses, but Haruhiko then burst into another laughter while Toshiko seemed to be flustered.
“He’s not honest,” Toshiko finally chimed in.
“But he’s brave,” Haruhiko chuckled. “To talk to you after hearing those arguments… that requires some courage. I think I like that boy.”
For now, it might be easy for Haruhiko to say so. However, little did he know that the boy would grow to be such a fine man in the next few years. And as he returned to their house, he once again showed them his bravery; this time not to pick Sora up for football practice but to ask for permission to marry her.
Would Haruhiko then turn to hate him? Maybe. That boy would take his precious daughter after all.
But on the other hand, he believed that there was no other man better for her daughter.

Digimon 30 Day Challenge: Day 7
A coupling you can’t stand.
Well, first off, can’t stand is a bit harsh. I’ll treat this more as a coupling I’m not really into. Also since I’m not sure if it means canon coupling or not, I’m gonna answer this in two parts because I can.
Second, let me make it clear that these are just my opinions and they’re not meant to demean anyone else’s preferences; I’m just as entitled as the next person to have my own thoughts about things, and nothing here is meant to say “I don’t get why people like x and y together that’s so dumb”. I actually probably get why people like them, it’s just not my thing. Ya’ll do ya’ll, and I’ll do me. I come in peace, I promise.
1. Canon couple I’m not really into:
Okay well, there’s only two adventure canon couples and the other is my OTP so clearly I’m going to say Kenyako for this. However, I will make an actual personal statement that to me, Kenyako is the most neutral coupling out of any ship, canon or non-canon. Like literally on a scale from -10 to 10 I’m at a solid 0. I don’t like it nor dislike it and I just have no emotional response at all when I read or see fanfiction/fanart about them. That’s the only couple I’m really neutral on though, isn’t that weird?
2. Non-canon couple I’m not really into:
Again, no hate to people who do like this couple, but I’m not the biggest fan of Mimato. But to be fair, I don’t really invest in any couple that has Yamato without Sora because I think they’re soulmates. But specifically I can’t really get behind Mimato versus Taito, Jyoumato, and even those rare Yamakaris that I sometimes can enjoy. Which is a shame because I really like Taiora (apparently I’m okay with Sora having other baes, whoops) and it’s so hard to find a good Taiora without Mimato (also have I mentioned I love reading fanfiction?). So I honestly do wish I liked them a bit more, but it just hasn’t happened yet.

| FRANTIC KISSES | USING TONGUE | HICKEYS
+ Mimato Color Challenge : PINK
Pairing: Mimato from Digimon | AO3 LINK
Event hosted by @aug-kissed | Post divider by @/cafekitsune
Tumblr media
Yamato had never been fond of the colour pink as far as he could remember, but if anyone asked when he became attracted to it, the memory always appeared quite clearly in his mind.
Years ago, on a typical summer day when he was heading back home from band practice, the sun was setting and its orange glow covered the streets with a lazy dullness, making the people who passed him by look sluggish under its weight. But only for a moment, a flash of bright pink appeared within his sight, almost blinding him with its shine that stood out amongst the drab scene. He stopped in his tracks, recognising the familiar face responsible for the sudden burst of colour in his view.
Yamato never stopped her for a greeting back then, he only watched from afar as she crossed the road to the other side, her laugh resonating around him despite the distance, her bright pink hair bobbing up and down as she ran ahead to catch up with some friends. The wide smile on her face, the infectious excitement in her voice, the glittering shine in her pink strands as the sunlight danced across it, the skip in her step even as the world around her dragged its feet, it was a scene that was forever etched in his mind.
To this day, Yamato had never met anyone else capable of carrying pink hair as beautifully as Mimi.
Which is why tonight was turning out to be so difficult for him.
No, Mimi hadn’t suddenly decided at the age of 27 to colour her hair pink again, but the dress she had donned tonight was the exact same shade as her hair used to be in the past, the only shade of pink that Yamato found endearing.
Tonight, they were attending the wedding reception of one of Mimi’s closest teammates, someone who had worked with her from when her website was first launched. To be precise, Yamato was attending the party while Mimi was at the centre of it all being the nice boss and friend that she was, helping in every way possible. He didn’t mind sitting at the bar by himself, having gotten used to such situations thanks to both Takeru and Mimi’s social lives. He rather preferred doing a customary round of greetings after arriving at a venue and then taking it slow, talking to people only when he was approached. He’d hoped that this evening would also be no different than many others, but when Mimi stepped out of the dressing room in that dress, his prayers were a lost cause.
Yamato didn’t know, if the dress was a conscious choice on Mimi’s behalf or if it was forced upon her by the bride. In case it was the former, then he wondered if he was being punished for some mistake he might’ve made months ago, because Mimi was aware of what this colour did to him, especially when she was dressed in it.
But Yamato was still sober when they’d just left home and was able to control all his urges right until the ceremony was over, it was when the first glass of champagne appeared in his hand that his thoughts began to wander to a territory not suitable to explore at someone else’s wedding. Perhaps he would’ve been fine had Mimi not drifted so far away from him as the night stretched on, and if the alcohol being served was something light like beer.
But now it would almost be an hour since Mimi left his side and he’d downed a questionable amount of glasses to keep his attention diverted, in short, it was too difficult for him to reel back his thoughts anymore. His eyes followed her around the room like a hawk, though even if he lost sight of her for a minute, her voice would always find its way to his ears to keep him on track and her pink dress made sure to capture his attention amongst the crowd.
There was nothing too extravagant about the dress, the length was modest with it falling till her ankles, it was off the shoulder from one side and the other side had a large lotus-like flower protruding out of the strap, which was not really Mimi’s style. Maybe he was right in assuming that it had been picked for her, but even in its simplicity, the dress wrapped itself around Mimi’s figure so perfectly, that Yamato’s fingers itched for the honour to take it off. She had done up her hair in a high ponytail, with a few strands falling out. Every time she turned her back to him he could see the nape of her neck which was begging to be caressed, every time she tilted her head to the side a strand of hair would tangle loosely, begging to be fixed back into place by his hands.
Yamato began to drum his fingers against the bar counter, hoping that building the right rhythm would help with keeping his mind busy and with his hand finally having something to do, he’d stop gulping down champagne like it was water. He wondered if Mimi was planning to stay until the end of the reception, another 30 minutes or so he could still survive on his own in his fantasy land, but any longer than that and he’d be making his way towards her and telling her they needed to head home now in not so subtle words.
Now might be a good time to get some fresh air, he thought, glancing at the glass that lay half-empty in front of him.
Yamato let the tune he’d built up in his mind rest with a few light taps against the counter, raising his hand instead to grab the glass and finish his drink. Gulping it all down at once was perhaps not the best move considering his state of mind, but he was hoping that a short walk outside the venue would help in sobering up. As he stood up from the stool, he dusted his coat off, deciding that he’d remove it and loosen his tie when he stepped outside. He searched for Mimi in the big hall, although he was planning to drop her a text in case she got worried, he still wanted to see if he could make eye contact and let her know of his plan. To his surprise however, Mimi was not talking to the group of people he’d seen her greet a few minutes ago but was herself making her way out of the venue, her eyes cast downwards as she rushed forward, to avoid having to make small talk with anyone who stopped her.
It was possible, that the universe heard Yamato’s desperate thoughts and decided to award him with a golden chance.
Bubbling with newfound excitement and energy, Yamato followed her out as discreetly as possible, using the crowd around them as cover so she wouldn’t notice him. He wasn’t planning to jump her in a dark corridor or anything creepy like that, but he just wanted to make sure that if he did approach her, she’d be willing to reciprocate in equal parts. If he figured out she was tired or not feeling well, Yamato would simply step forward and offer to head back home immediately.
Things became complicated when Mimi slipped into the women’s washroom, leaving Yamato standing alone in the corridor as he hesitated over his next step.
It would make sense for him to enter the washroom if Mimi was feeling unwell, but since he hadn’t gotten a good look at her face, he couldn’t be sure. He didn’t want some other lady spotting him in there and raising unnecessary alarms, so he paced outside the washroom for a few minutes, hoping that Mimi would come out soon enough. But when she didn’t, he let go of all inhibitions and barged into the toilet, ready to face whatever consequences that awaited him.
“Mimi, are you okay?”
His loud voice echoed around the space, which to his luck, was empty. It was a typical sort of washroom you’d expect from a wedding venue, posh furnishings, marble flooring and granite sinks. Lights bordered the frame of the mirror fixed above the sink, reflecting off the white marble floors, it made the whole space look much brighter than needed. Mimi stood at the sink, turning around to face him with a surprised look on her face holding an open lipstick in one hand.
“Yamato?”
Shutting the door behind him, Yamato ventured closer to Mimi, knowing that the washroom was empty filled him with some confidence, though chances of any girl walking in the very next second should not have been ruled out of his mind. Mimi continued to stare at him with wide eyes, her mouth half open as she tried to make sense of the situation. When he was standing right in front of her, he leaned down to get a good look at her face in an attempt to spot any signs of exhaustion or fatigue.
“I’m fine, you don’t have to worry,” Mimi spoke quickly, shaking her head as she twisted the cap of her lipstick back on and faced him with a reassuring smile, “I was just redoing my makeup before the photoshoot.”
“I see,” Yamato said, feeling a little relieved, “I just-I couldn’t get a good look at your face when you left the hall and then you weren’t coming out-”
“Thank you.” Mimi stopped his rambling explanation, resting a hand on his cheek.
In retrospect, Yamato realised that it had not been a good move on Mimi’s behalf. Despite the confidence she took in understanding people better than him, she did not catch on to the dangerous effects her gentle touch could have on a half drunk yet fully smitten Yamato.
“But you really shouldn’t be here, people might kick up a fuss-”
Although he could hear her clearly, none of the words registered in his mind as he took in the sight of her face up close. It was still a mystery to him, how everything about Mimi could be so perfect. Her brown eyes were always so enticing, like two big, round drops of caramel beckoning him towards heavenly bliss, her cheeks always stood out like two empty canvases, ready to be tinted in the right colours at his command, and her lips were always curved so coyly, as if teasing him into a game of push and pull, one that would end in both their victories. And now, shining with a fresh coat of her pink lipstick, her lips looked nothing less than a present placed under a Christmas tree, he had no choice but to unravel the ribbon and see for himself if the wait had been worth it.
“So, I think that you really should leave-”
Yamato nodded to himself, coming to a decision about what he was going to do next, but Mimi took that as a sign of his acknowledgement of her requests and let her guard down with a relieved sigh. Before she could turn around to face the mirror again, however, Yamato leaned down and landed a kiss on her lips.
She let out a surprised gasp, stumbling on her feet under the sudden onset of his weight. The lipstick slipped from her fingers as she struggled to clutch the granite sink counter for some support, the sound of it dropping against the floor clattered around them like an alarm but it was too late to pay heed to any warning now. Yamato cupped her cheeks in both his hands, pushing her face towards him so he could use his tongue to lick her lips, pleading with her to let him in.
With whatever force she could manage after his surprise ambush, Mimi was able to free herself from his grasp for a moment to respond breathlessly, “Yamato, we can’t.” Her voice depicted the urgency of the situation quite well, but her eyes sparkling with excitement betrayed any meaning her words may have held.
“Hmm…” Yamato nodded again, putting one hand behind her back so she wouldn’t be pressed against the hard edge of the sink when he leaned in closer, pushing their bodies as close as possible. The whimpering sound that Mimi tried her best to muffle was not lost to his ears and he smirked down triumphantly at her, “But we will.”
There was no more room for discussion as he brought his lips to hers once again, this time he wasn’t met with any resistance and Mimi gladly allowed him to plunge deeper into her. The passion with which she responded made him smile against her lips, her intentions were quite opposite of what she had claimed just a moment ago. Her hands were quick to wrap themselves around his neck, with one hand tangling with his hair at a pace that made the threads holding his sanity together snap one by one. When Mimi stopped to clutch at his hair, Yamato let out a low grunt, pulling away from her lips so he could leave a trail of frantic kisses across her cheek, then her chin and then all the way down to her neck, using his free hand to trace the shape of her collarbone. His lingering touch made Mimi moan much louder than she had before, which wasn’t something he should’ve taken pride in, considering anyone could walk in on them because of the sound, but Yamato found himself getting bolder the more Mimi reciprocated.
He dragged one finger across the hem of her dress, stopping near the single strap that kept the dress in place on her shoulder, though when he looped his fingers around the strap, Mimi let go of his hair and quickly covered his hand with her own, stopping him from taking the dress off with her quick instinct.
“Not the dress, please.” She begged straight into his ears, knowing that he would find it hard to resist the soft, gasping tone of her voice, “I still have to join them in the photos.”
“Tsk.” Yamato clicked his tongue in annoyance as he raised his head for a moment to meet her eyes.
He didn’t plan to defy this request of hers as he was vaguely aware of how they were in a public space, but he still wanted to let her know that he’d have his way one way or the other, be it right now or later in their bedroom. Mimi pressed her lips together at the look in his eyes, the colour in her cheeks deepened as she agreed to his silent declaration with a light shake of her head. Thinking that his craving was satisfied for the time being, Mimi let her guard down yet again and Yamato just couldn’t resist surprising her with his drive.
He dropped to his knees, making Mimi let out a loud yelp before she covered her mouth to muffle her voice as much as possible. Yamato didn’t bother to look up at her as he used one hand to lift her dress while the other grazed softly across her ankles to her thighs. Mimi’s whole body trembled at his touch, and each breath was accompanied by an enticing sound she tried so hard to suppress. Yamato held onto her thigh and then used his lips to plant kisses in the same pattern as he had followed with his hand. He needed to hold onto Mimi because the way her body moved when his lips brushed against her skin or when he teased her by using his tongue to lick the sensitive spots, it was a miracle that she was able to stand straight at all. Even with her hand covering her mouth, her moans filled the washroom, though Yamato could only hope that it didn’t yet cut through the walls to reach the corridor outside.
He was trying his best to not crumple Mimi’s dress but as he dragged his lips higher across her thighs and her intoxicating scent reached his nose, Yamato’s hand fisted around the soft material of her dress, most likely creasing it visibly. That must have been a good enough wake-up call for Mimi to try and regain control of the situation. As Yamato placed his head in between her thighs, spreading them apart to meet his need, the sight of Mimi’s pink lacy thong covering up the bare minimum made all the blood in his body rush to one spot. He tilted his head upwards, grabbing onto the bottom part of the fabric with his teeth and almost immediately, he felt Mimi’s hand clutch onto a fistful of his hair as she yanked his head back. She was lucky that he had the good sense to let go of her underwear, or it would’ve definitely ended up torn given the force with which she held onto his head. She moved her hand slightly, forcing him to look upwards and face her, which Yamato knew would end up being his kryptonite for the night.
“Please, Yamato,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. She let go of his hair and instead turned her attention to the part of her dress he was still holding onto, using both her hands to untangle it from his grasp. “I know what you want,” she spoke up softly, her voice lacked the pleading tone from earlier and was much more coy, with a teasing smile she brought one of her hands to her lips, placing two fingers above them as she pouted down at him, “and I will let you have it, but for now, can you make do with these lips instead?”
One might say that if Yamato gave in to her demand, he’d be losing this battle, but to be fair to both of them, he’d rarely ever attempted to win against Mimi anyway.
He stood up, letting her dress drop back into position while he planted another deep kiss on her lips. Mimi rested one of her hands behind his back while the other caressed his cheek in slow, soothing movements, similar to how her tongue played with his. It was her way of telling him that even if he didn’t get his prize immediately, the consolation was perhaps an equally good feeling. When they broke the kiss to catch their breaths, Yamato caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, Mimi’s freshly applied pink lipstick was now all over his mouth and chin making him look rather suspicious to an unaware person. He glanced at Mimi, while the shade of the lipstick had faded off her lips, overall her makeup seemed intact so at least she wouldn’t get mad at him for that. Though, her cheeks and nose were drenched in a deep pink blush, which painted a stark contrast to her gleaming, clean neck and it made Yamato want to bite down on it just so it would turn a shade that matched her face.
“Don’t you dare give me a hickey.” Mimi raised a finger, pointing it towards him in a threatening manner as apparently, she could now read his mind like an open book, "I told you I still have to be in the photos!”
Yamato contemplated her words for a while but then decided to have his way since she owed him for not dropping everything to rush back home so they could finish what they’d started instead. He caught on to the strap on her shoulder again, sliding it down before Mimi could react. First, he kissed the newly exposed spot, and then dug his teeth into her skin, sucking at the portion, then running his tongue across it to soften the blow. When he let go a minute later, a fresh red bruise shaped like his teeth was perfectly visible on Mimi’s shoulder.
Nodding satisfactorily at the result, Yamato put the strap of her dress back into place, covering up the mark almost completely as he met her eyes smugly, “That won’t show in the photos, I’m sure.”
Mimi opened her mouth to argue back but they both heard heels clicking against the floor outside, sending them into alarm as they tried to figure out how to deal with the tricky situation. Through whatever miraculous reason, Mimi was still partially in her senses and she came up with a plan in mere seconds. Dragging Yamato by the arm, she made him stand adjacent to the door of the washroom, taking a deep breath as she fixed her hair and patted her cheeks. She sent one last warning look in his direction and then opened the door with a big smile plastered on her face.
“Ah, Mimi! We were looking for you!” A girl’s voice floated in from somewhere in the corridor, “The photographer finished with his meal, so they’re starting with the photo shoot now.”
“I’m so sorry!” Mimi called out in a high pitched voice as she left the washroom, leaving the door behind her just slightly open so Yamato could peek when it was the right time to make an exit, “I was redoing my makeup and then I got a little bit carried away.” He heard her laugh loudly, and her friend joined in without hesitation.
“No wonder you look so good! Which brand did you use for your blush, it’s so naturally pink.”
Yamato had to put a fist to his mouth to keep a laugh of his own from escaping. He leaned closer into the open gap of the door to catch Mimi’s response, a little bummed that he couldn’t see the look on her face when she spoke.
“Oh, this brand’s not available on the market anymore.”

Digimon Adventure tri. 30 Day Challenge #22
Ships you enjoy
So, my OTP is Koumi, but I also enjoy brotherly Jyoumi (once Mimi even called his brother Shin nii-san), Michi and Daimi because Taichi and Daisuke both have personalities that fit Mimi. Almost every Mimi pairing works and is fun, so I don’t complain much! I also enjoy Sorato.
The thing is I tend to enjoy relationships where people challenge each other to be and do better. Sorato and Koumi are very different from each other: Sora and Yamato are somewhat different sides of the same coin, while Koushiro and Mimi are two different coins. I think Sora and Yamato would greatly improve each other as they both seem to struggle with love and trust. They would learn to accept themselves and improve from the love they receive from the other. For Koumi it’s different, I don’t see it in a “love conquers all" kind of way, perhaps more of a “getting on each other’s nerves made us care for each other”?. To be honest, as I said in some previous post, before Tri. I didn’t even know Koumi could be a thing - it never crossed my mind, as my childhood favourite pairings were romantic Mimato and friendly Jyoumi - but that scene in the car where Koushiro blushed looking at Mimi made so much sense I started shipping them. Yep, as quickly as that. The fact that one complements the other’s faults is, perhaps, my favourite thing about them. I’m a fan of opposites attract, no doubt, and Mimi and Koushiro are total opposites, but they somehow got to be friends and actually get along with each other well. Mimi’s effect on Koushiro would be clear, but I think Koushiro would also have a great impact on Mimi, teaching her to be more patient and to think before acting, allowing her to mature. Very few people are able to point a finger at Mimi Tachikawa and say “you did wrong” in such a harsh way as Koushiro did. Sora and Jyou, two people who’ve been in that position, seem to approach her in soothing, not judgmental way. Though she’s grateful to them, Mimi deeply values sincerity and urges people to say things to her face. Moreover, in Adventure Mimi used to complain about guys/Digimon giving her too much attention or having second intentions when approaching her because of her good looks (though she’s aware of that, she also used her looks to get her way ≧◡≦) so that’s a trait she wouldn’t overlook and would probably prefer someone more deep and discreet who valued her personality. I can see plenty of reasons for both of them to like each other.
Sorato is cannon and I’m happy for them. I wish Koumi would be too but if no one’s willing to take that step, I’m happy for them to just be closer and bond as friends.
PS: I don’t think Koushiro’s OOC. It’s just a new side of him. He still is respectful and polite, but also a conflicted teenager now.
PS2: Though I think of Mimi as different from her mother, I can’t help picturing a careless Koushiro being smothered by food and unwanted cuddles. Tentomon and Koushiro’s mother would be happy x)
