Words cannot describe how much I ADORE this most recent piece of official art - and yet, I'll try regardless!
First of all, let's appreciate how consistently they are using all characters' associated colours; I've always appreciated how official art varied between signature (= Crest) colours, but still made sure to include colours the characters actually would canonically wear. (Jyou might be the biggest exception here, because while I'd say that dark blue is his associated colour, purple and all kinds of muted colours like beige are pretty typical for him.) It's just perfectly conducted: On one hand, all these outfits are layered, thus providing a sense of potential variety - just in case they would be used for an actual series (because a girl can dream); on the other hand, they are very fashionable pretty age appropriate for them!
While I would say that Mimi's prim and proper fashionista piece is my favourite among all of them, I am especially fascinated by Sora's outfit: not only did they give her a college jacket, which is a design choice I came up for her around two years ago and that I'm still very proud of; it's just the perfect mix of tomboyishly cute and it makes me cry: Soft colours, hairclips and thigh-highs contrast her shorts, sneakers and college jacket. Absolutely perfect.
Taichi's effortlessly chill jock ensemble gets a special mention due to the fact that his pants also look eerily similar to the design I gave him back then... Yamato looks incredibly comfy and cuddly and I adore it. Jyou's nerd aesthetic will never not be adorable. And can we appreciate Koushirou actually wearing a colour coordinated ensemble for once? Granted, we can assume that his mom picked the outfit, boyish, cuddly and dorky. Takeru's fashionista career is also starting early and Hikari always looks like she's on her way to another birthday party - adorable.
The food choices are of course remarkable too and together with the layered clothes approach, we can assume that it's all Spring/Hanami themed. Of course Sora gets a flower theme again, Mimi and Hikari are incredible sweet tooths; Gomamon's fish shaped taiyaki is just too perfect; Yamato making practical rice balls feels very canonical for him, as well as Takeru ordering a Happy Meal hamburger; giving Kou and Tentomon dango instead of mochi is a missed opportunity, but still adorable; and I do like to imagine that Taichi and Agumon are eating chicken nuggets to honour the dinosaur nugget meme. XD
In sum: 10/10 designs, I am in love.

sincerity at its finest
hi there @bacomon-art-blog!!! it’s me, your secret santa! merry christmas!
this is my first time writing something focusing on iori and jyou and i hope i was able to do them right. and adventure and 02 are also my favorites so i was still a little familiar with the feels. this is an au fic though, so sadly no digimon partners because i felt like it would be too forced and a little crowded for the plot, huhu, i’m sorry :(
so a few notes i would like to say before we begin the gift ; i apologize for being late, stuff happened, although no emergencies or anything negative in you are wondering, but lotsa busy and last minute stuff plus works and a change of plot / i had an original idea that i really liked and it was heading the right direction but not the direction i wanted, so i made some changes and although i love what i’ve written, i’m still scared you won’t like it, but i hope you do! / i had a lot of fun writing this but i think it’s too short :( but i swear i love it and that’s something to me because i hate writing short stories for people who deserve more / this focuses more on iori but i put in some jyou x iori friendship in it / also, the title, omg i thought that was very smart of me (or not?) hahaha / and finally, this has been edited just a few times so please don’t expect any perfection huhuhu
...and so, let’s go!
Tumblr media
sincerity at its finest | main characters ; iori hida, jyou kido | pairings ; slight takeru x hikari | genre ; friendship | word count ; 1,000 | rating ; g
Iori Hida was not particularly one of those to have a large group of friends. He had Miyako and the others, but sometimes, he felt like he never quite fit in. They were loud and exciting, while he was shy and reserved. He loved his friends dearly, but he still felt…out of place. He also knew that his friends loved him, too. But he could not help but feel like he did not belong.
“Iori,” Miyako greeted, a smile on her face. She had come from the opposite direction and was waving as she approached him. “Are you still coming to the party later?”
He nodded. “Of course, why wouldn’t I go?”
Her smile softened. “It’s just…you haven’t been yourself lately. I know the holidays aren’t really your thing but I promise that spending time with us will be worth it.”
Iori nodded. “I know it will.”
Miyako grinned and pumped her fist in the air, “That’s the spirit!” Then she chuckled. “I’ll go ahead, I promised Mimi that I’d take care of the food.” She clasped her hands together and closed her eyes, a grin still on her face. “I would never break a promise to her.”
Iori gave a small smile. Miyako idolized Mimi to bits and pieces, he sometimes wondered if Mimi found it uncomfortable or amusing. ‘Probably the latter,’ he thought. “I’ll see you later then.” Miyako patted his head and said goodbye.
Iori sighed once she was out of sight. The hallway was not as crowded, which does not happen so often. It seemed everyone was inside the classrooms planning events or hangouts for the break. His pace was his usual, slow and steady but alert. He hoped to one day be like the schoolmates he had, secure and confident.
Later that day, the party had begun in the room they rented. The place was specifically made for gatherings of people who wanted their privacy. He and his friends all chipped in to pay for their event, it was not too expensive. It was not just his core group that was there, their friends from the higher batches were also attending.
He was a little intimated by them but they always made him feel welcome and treated him as an equal.
He and Takeru had come together as they were both on cleaning duty for their respective classrooms.
“I’m really excited,” Takeru said. “We do this all the time, and we’re always meeting up, but specific gathers always excite me.” He smiled. “What about you, Iori?”
Iori nodded. “I get nervous,” he admitted. “But it always ends up great.”
Takeru agreed. “We’re really lucky, you know. Finding our friends.” Iori’s ears perked. “Especially our senpais, they’re really great.”
“But your older brother is one of them,” Iori pointed out. “You grew up with them.”
Takeru smiled. “That’s true, yes. But I don’t think it matters to them whether we grew up together or not.”
Iori knew what Takeru was saying but did not want to say it out loud. He was talking about him, Miyako, Daisuke, and Ken. They were the “freshmen”, friends Takeru and Hikari brought in. But the senpais were nice, very nice. He felt welcome, and though he had those thoughts of being detached as compared to everyone else, he felt their sincerity.
They finally arrived and saw that the party had already started. “Nothing like a grand entrance,” Takeru said with a chuckle.
Iori giggled and agreed. As he and Takeru entered, he noticed that everyone mixed and mingled. Miyako was talking to Sora and Koushiro, Hikari was with Taichi and Yamato, Daisuke seemed to be ranting to Jyou, and Ken and Mimi had smiles on their faces. Takeru started to walk, heading for Daisuke and Jyou while Iori went to get some food.
He watched the others talk and laugh, but Hikari, Taichi, and Yamato seemed to be in serious mode. He had just finished his food when he heard his name being called by Jyou. He stood frozen for a while. Like Miyako idolized Mimi, Iori idolized Jyou.
“Hi,” Iori greeted them when he arrived at their group.
“We were just talking about Takeru’s gift for Hikari,” Daisuke said a little sourly. Daisuke had a huge crush on Hikari but everyone knew that she and Takeru were endgame. “He’s scared she wouldn’t like it.”
Jyou chuckled. “That’s just how puppy love is.”
Iori smiled. “What about it?”
As they talked, Iori could not help but actually feel the rapport he had with them. They asked for his opinions and valued whatever he said. He would even cast some silly, corny jokes, which he rarely did, but their laughs were genuine.
“I have to talk to Ken,” Daisuke said. “Excuse me.”
Takeru nodded and smiled. “Mimi said she wanted to talk to me about something, too.”
Iori was left with Jyou, and surprisingly, he did not feel any awkwardness. “How’ve you been, Iori?” Jyou asked.
“Doing good,” he replied. “Exams are done but the thought of passing or not won’t change.”
Jyou scoffed. “I know exactly what you mean.” He shook his head. “But let’s not talk about school, I’m not ready to go back.”
Iori did not know how Jyou’s academic life worked and a part of him did not want to know for now. Just as he was about to ask what his senpai was going to do for Christmas, Jyou cut him off.
“Are you done Christmas shopping?”
Iori nodded. “I’ve got gifts for everyone. I’m just hoping you’ll all like it.”
“You all?” Jyou cocked his head. “Me included?”
“Why do you seem surprised?”
Jyou stared at him for a few seconds before smiling and shaking his head. “Forget that, let it be a surprise.”
It was a massive bewilderment for Iori. He talked to every single participant in the party and not once did he feel any negativity. When the event was done, they all said their goodbyes and headed home. He, Miyako, and Takeru walked together until Yamato called out to them and accompanied them home.
It was finally Christmas and everyone had given their gifts to everyone. He was very shocked when he received gifts from the senpais as well–all of them. On Christmas day, Iori was trying his best not to look at his mother whenever he would grab a present and read the cards. He knew his mother was doing her best not to cry, cry because of happiness. He could see from the corner of his eye that her lips were quivering.
“You received a lot this year,” his grandfather said.
It had been a while but Iori’s heart soared, and he felt the love. Not just because of the gifts he received, but because the friendships he made with each member were not shallow, nor was it a facade. He knew there was a deep connection between them as a group and each of them individually.
“They’re the most sincere people I know.”

Digimon Related Stuff
I’ve wanted for a long while to write a few opinions I had about Digimon Adventure and Zero Two, specially about the ending. I’d love to read other people opinions as this one is just mine and we all can have different ones. ( I’m not talking about Tamers, but Tamers were even better in some mature and emotional stuff.) I know that it’s a bit useless as I can´’t change anything but I just wanted to write them, and now that Last Evolution Kizuna and the new series are announced I thing it’s a good time. I’m a bit worried about the new series as it seems to be a new story with same characters or something like this and I didn’t like when it happened to other series like Inazuma Eleven, in which it seemed that the characters were for fanservice and the nice development and story they had in the original was lost. Anyways Digimon is part of my heart since day 1 and I’ll see it and I hope I’ll be delight with the new stories.  In my opinion Digimon Adventure was wonderfull, being a child show in that time it talks about some important stuffs, and it has a depth that even if it could be more explored it’s fine as it’s aimed for children and me, as a child, found it great like it was. Like Doremi, I’m amazed about how in both series it’s shown different kind of families and relationships, someones being helthy and others not so much. And also the reactions to death, a dead brother, dead friends... dead Leomon once again and to the weight of responsability that makes Taichi lost confidence or Sora almost in the end of Adventure had a big depression. And in Zero Two BlackWarGreymon looking for who he is, that’s really interesting, BlackWarGreymon was one of best characters to me. Going back to families, in Digimon we have divorced parents, adoptive parents, strict parents, absent father, sick sister and more, and it’s said about how it makes their children act. And what’s best in my opinion is that these parents (most of them) get involved in the story and help their children fighting the bad digimons, each one as they can. Yamato’s father, Sora’s mother and Koushirou’s parents are the most involved. While the others give their support as much as they can. But in Digimon they don’t need to “kill the parents” to give freedom of moving to the children, parents help as much as they can, sometimes just being sure they eat enough. And improving their relationships with their children. About Zero Two, while a lot of people didn’t like it and myself find Adventure better, is also a good series. They had other issues, I think it’s more focused in siblings that in parents but also in the “who I am” as I said with BlackWarGreymon. Who I am is a topic that appears all the time and that every main character has to overcome, altough Ken and BlackWarGreymon take more time and importance. Also Daisuke is a sunshine boy, he was ready to die for his friends in the beguinning. And then it come the epilogue, and well, I didn’t like it, as many people. I’m not salty about it, the characters aren’t us, but some of the things that happened were like... “why”. And this could haven been answered along the series to not be so shocked. I’m going to talk about the chosed jobs for each child. When I saw the first time the epilogue I only understand the reason for 4, the others were truly unexpected. Taichi [8/10], as a child I dislike a lot his job but now I can understand why it’s important for him. He is the ambassador of Digital Work. I think Sora would fit this job too, but Taichi is the Leader so it’s okay. I only would like more if they focused it in Taichi and Agumon being the spokespeople of Digimon wih Children and other Digimon being the spokesmon of the Digimon without Children. And do you know how could have been? Leomon. So ending picture of Taichi and Agumon shaking hands with Leomon about agreeing some important stuff. To me it’d have been perfect.  Yamato [0/10], this one was the most unexpected in a bad way. I didn’t understand why or how Yamato ended as astronaut. Like... cheff? ok, musician? great, Taichi’s right hand in gobernment? amazing. Astronaut?... hell no. But I supposed they had their reasson altough I can’t understand it yet. I would have like if Yamato would have being side by side with Taichi, being the second man with Gabumon being the second Digimon. Or being the headmasters of an organitation to help Digimon that enter Human World by mistake to go back to Digiworld. Also continuing with the Music Career would have been amazing. A group with Humans and Digimon maybe?  Sora [4/10] I didn’t like Sora’s work at all either. In Tri they try to give a reason behind it but... Not enough. Trough the series Sora is portrayed as a strong and indepent woman but most important also Leader and Sportive. I’d have like if she would continue with something sportive. Yes, it can be a Hobby, but even if it’d have been good developed I’d have like more if she continued with her mother’s Ikebana’s tradition.  Koushirou [10/10] What else could have he been? Just perfect to him. I’d also have like to see Wallace and Miyako working with him, but Koushirou’s focusing, just perfect. Mimi [2/10] How a girl who adds sugar and cream to a fried egg endep as Cheff? Mimi culinary’s art are shown in the series (even in Tri) as horribles. But as a little kids Teacher... I think this job suits her more than to Hikari. Mimi is caring, with a gold heart as it’s seeing her growing from being selfish to being really sweet. I’d have like that Mimi would become a Teacher and Teaches the importance about living with Digimons. Jyou [10/10] Same that with Koushirou, this rol just fits him so much I couldn’t see him being something different. He started not wanting to become a doctor, but trough the series and seeing how his friends become injured and even dying, he changes he mind. It’s good developed in the series and I liked it a lot. Takeru [7/10] I didn’t like but also didn’t dislike, I’m neutral about this. I didn’t know what I could like for him better as it’s not showed anything. Maybe something that can help agains evils? But writing stories can be a good way to do too. Hikari [7/10] She said she wanted to become a teacher and she did. But with her character I would see her more being a Reporter. She likes the truth, enlight the things and it would have been a good way to do. But I’m fine with her being a Teacher just because in canon it’s said it was her dream. Daisuke [?/10] I just don’t know how to feel. Same that with Hikari, he sais it was his dream but... I found it so strange that Daisuke wanted to have a Noodles’ Restaurant. I think they should have explained why in canon. Just that. Miyako [2/10] I understand being at home as a house keeper is important but she had so much potential with informatics, she could work as a programmer from home or something like that. I also didn’t understand why she married Ken... like she couldn’t understand him at all, I always found Miyako crush on Ken strange and not really healthy, but well... I hope in Kizuna this would be good developed.
Iori [10/10] He was another one I really liked, I loved how he went from being so hard with “good or evil” to understand that maybe villains aren’t so bad and that they can be helped with compassion. It’s the one I like the most, because Jyou or Koushirou were easy choices, but with Iori, I was surprised to good. Ken [10/10] I also like this one a lot, he did bad in the past, he knew he did bad and then he tried to do good because it’s his life and his way to make the world a better place. Being a Police to help others with everything. I liked, I liked a lot it. And these are my opinions, I don’t know if someone would read them but I just wanted to share them! And as I said, I’d love to read other people’s ones, specially abot what everyon would have like them to work as adults? Just tell me!

All Likes and Reblogs are welcome and very much appreciated ♡
A new collab and I must admit that I prefer Dino's copic colours. She tried some water colouring here because I made the Lines far too thin. Even though her copic colourations are a lot better, I like how the colours turned out. It seems as if Gomamon is kind of glowing while the school books look like a dark shadow. I feel you, Jou, really. HOwever, try to make Gomamon feel like the ray of hope he is <3 I love Gomamon in Digimon Tri a lot. He cares so much and I really feel that they finally get some attention from the series' writers. Gomamon is concerned about Jou studying a lot and brings him some Chahan. I bet it's tasty.

I'm curious - what does Ishimaru using -kun for women as well mean? (He did that, right? It's been a long time...). I figured it had to do with his "hall monitor" persona, but never completely understood the how.
I have noticed a trend in fictional characters that use -kun for girls--they often (but not always) tend to be characters more hung up on rules or protocol. For another example, Kidou Jyou from Digimon also uses -kun for girls. Meanwhile, one of my coworkers does this irl, too.It isn't technically incorrect, just uncommon. Like girls using "boku" outside of song lyrics.

@joukidoweek Prompt: Relationships
Even though this is not exactly a new drawing, I still thought it was appropriate to bring up again. Looking at Jyou's relationships with the others is one of my favourite past-times, because he is one of the few who does have elaborated moments with almost all of them. Mimi and Iori are very strong contenders in this regard, since he shares the most heart-felt, most open moments overall with them; then again, I also enjoy his protective nature towards Takeru, the rare moments of "mom and dad-ness" he shares with Sora; his moments with Taichi and Koushirou are also pretty underrated.
But in addition to the bit I said about Mimi and Iori, the same also applies to Yamato - because I personally feel like these two are capable of bringing the best out of each other and it fills my heart with joy.
This comic is a little bit more light-hearted, a fun interpretation of why Jyou's and Yamato's hairstyles were so similar in 02... Because these two greatly inspire each other. Granted, Jyou managed to inspire a lot of people through the course of the series, my favourite example still being the stageplay... But without Yamato, Jyou wouldn't have contemplated looking for his own path as thoroughly as he did in the first place. And without Jyou getting inspired like this, Yamato may have not been able to break out of some of his darkest moments himself either (including the stageplay, once again). He also makes his softer side come through more easily...
I wish we could see more of them spending time, bonding over their familial relationships not being the easiest, about being protective big bros for Takeru, over shaking their heads over Taichi... Because I love them, your honour.

Digimon Writing Challenge - Mix and Match: Yamato + Gomamon + Sincerity
Tumblr media
[Yamato] [Takeru] [Hikari] [Sora] [Taichi] [Koushirou] [Mimi] [Jyou]
Summary: Gomamon trying to cheer the grieving Yamato up on Jyou's behalf proves to be quite a test of patience for the Digimon - whereas Yamato needs to learn to become more sincere with himself...
Word count: 1221
Yamato found himself sighing.
When Jyou had texted him earlier, promising to send him “something to cheer him up a little”, this was not what he had expected…
“I told you you don’t need to cook for me… I can do that myself.”
“Yeah, maybe, but that is exactly the point!”, Gomamon exclaimed loudly over his shoulder before continuing to stir the pot of ramen in front of him.
The little seal Digimon had been hustling around his flat for a while already – proving that all jokes about him playing "housewife" for Jyou had not been jokes at all, but scarily accurate instead. However that habit may have developed in the past, Yamato wasn’t sure whether he should be impressed, annoyed… Or jealous.
Ever since Gabumon had disappeared, he had thrown himself into the task of studying, harder, longer, more persistently trying to look for his own path. Day and night. Those were the things he had promised to Gabumon right before…
“Sheesh, Yamato! Do ya mind me getting rid of this? Looks like it’s expired a bit ago… Ah, well, I could still try it, but, ya know, Jyou’s stomach is pretty sensitive to stuff like that. Pretty sure you can take more than he can, but yeeeeah.”
Hearing that, Yamato sighed again, eventually looking up from his copy of “Space Mission Engineering”, which he had been torturing with blue and green textmarkers for hours. He wasn’t used to study company anymore. But he also didn’t have the energy to refuse the tenth attempt of people – and Digimon – trying to pay him a visit. So he was aware that he had dug his own grave here…
“Cream like this can still last when it hasn’t been opened already, can you just… Can you please just leave that be?!”
“Oooooh, someone’s finally getting antsy?”, Gomamon whistled – and the marker fell right out of Yamato’s hand.
“… What?”
“I expected you to snap within the first five minutes, but seeing you now, you’ve really grown up quite some bit, huh?” The Digimon simply continued stirring while Yamato simply stared at him. What the heck was going on here?
“Have you been testing me?”, he asked and Gomamon eventually turned around, jumping from the kitchen counter to waddle towards his desk. Fortunately, the flat wasn’t particularly big, so all paths were manageable – especially for beings with very short legs.
“Nah, it’s not like that, even worrywart Jyou didn’t try to stop me when I suggested coming here, and believe me, he was worried and didn’t know what to do, so here I am, checking out how to help you getting through this.”
With that, Gomamon had climbed onto Yamato’s desk, eying him from up close. And the blond had a hard time processing what he had just heard.
“So you’ve been coming on your own behalf?” Deep down, he knew that Gomamon was right, that he had to remind himself not to get aggressive that easily, but his nerves had been on edge, so it was hard not to let his voice turn towards grumpy mode.
“Jyou would have come himself, but he can’t, ya know, the usual.” Gomamon huffed dramatically. “And I have eyes, Yamato, I see him, I see you, I see everyone going a li'l insane and I can’t blame them! I was surprised you didn’t immediately bark at the idea, but that kinda proves that something’s not right. Taichi’s the same too and nobody can even properly talk to Koushirou right now, he cannot not talk about the problem, so…”
“So can you tell me what the point of this is?”
“The point iiiiiis…” The little seal raised one claw to poke against Yamato’s arm. “You guys need to be more sincere!”
Yamato would have lied if he said this had come unexpected, but he had still hoped to avoid the whole topic.
“Sincere about what?”, he growled, all the unanswered texts on his phone and PC nagging at the back of his head, reminding him of how much he loathed getting pitied like this. “You said it yourself, everyone knows what’s going on, what else is there to say?! I can handle this, I need to handle this on my own for a bit, so can you all just leave me alone?!”
“Is this all that you want?!”, Gomamon barked back in the exact same tone, shaking his paws competitively. “Sitting in your silly little flat without eating properly and not responding to texts for days and working yourself into the ground to achieve one goal of many? Where have I seen that before?! And don’t say anything like ‘What do you know?!’, because I do know! Better than anyone else!”
“This is stupid”, Yamato answered, averting his gaze, and Gomamon poked him again.
“So are you! Ya think Gabumon would enjoy seeing you like this?!”
Oh, how he hated to feel caught. How easy it was to read him. How easy it was to his friends…
“Be honest, don’t ya think you would have liked to have Jyou here for a bit? Instead of me?” Gomamon tried again, this time with a softer voice. “Weren’t ya hoping he would be the one knocking on your door?”
Another growl escaped Yamato’s throat and he felt his cheeks heating up a little.
“What about the others?”
“Maybe…”, he pressed, slowly returning the glance again – noticing that Gomamon had literally no sense of personal space. In that way, he was so different from Gabumon and yet… Looking at him now felt weirdly familiar.
Those green eyes were persistent and straight-forward. Both traits he had seen growing in Jyou as well over the years.
“It’s… Not easy for you humans to find a balance. That’s one thing I’ve learned in all this time and… Jyou is trying his best. And I know you wanna try too. And sometimes ya need a little nudge, a good bowl of ramen and someone you reeeeeally like to find your way.”
Listening very closely, Yamato couldn’t help but smile by the end. Taichi had said something similar the last time they had met. He may not have been able to accept it yet though, facing his tendency to pull back and denying himself to get spoilt by his friends and loved ones.
“… I know that”, Yamato admitted, suddenly feeling weirdly light. “I… Guess I really would have liked to see him.”
The grin on Gomamon’s face couldn’t possibly get any broader, Yamato was sure of. Obviously satisfied with the answer he got, the Digimon gently patted his shoulder once more before jumping off the desk again.
“Good boy! Theeeeen, how about you text him to come over to pick me up after his shift?”
This time, it was up to Yamato to lean down and poke Gomamon in return – catching him off guard.
“Didn’t you say I should be more sincere, you little troll?”
“Eh. Damn, ya got me… You’re really good.”
With this, Yamato laughed out loud for once. Despite feeling a little stinging in his chest, a small surge of sadness that had been stuck there for months, he knew something had to change. One step at a time. With a big pint of sincerity.
“Until then… Want to see how to really make a good bowl of ramen?”
“Heh, challenge accepted!”

Digimon Adventure “trauma dump” - who is even aware of what?
While doing chores, I once again had a few German dub episodes of Adventure on in the back - and I realized that, sometimes, it’s easy to forget that, especially in a series with that many characters, we are absolutely having a viewer bias. We as outside observers know way more than the kids (and their partners) do about each other, so one might tend to forget that not everybody CAN react to certain things in the same way. Let’s take a look at the most crucial moments and see how much the squad is aware of each other’s trauma - JUST in season 1.
Tumblr media
Taichi: While everyone can SEE his temporary downfall into a false sense of ambition - and the depression that follows after that - in the Etemon arc, only few of them actually may have an idea where all of this stems from. Sora, having known him from football club, is aware of his usually more selfless tendencies and tries to explain it to the others. However, it is also not known whether she knows about his tragic past with Hikari. Because as we see in the Dark Masters’ arc, he only opens up about that to Koushirou and their Digimon partners - and also loses it several times in front of them emotionally (leading to very self-sacrificial tendencies as well). Prior to Hikari joining the team, none of them seemed even aware that he HAD a sister - and thus, it is no surprise that Yamato once accused him of not knowing how he felt about being an inadequate older brother... Hikari has known him all her life of course and has a more or less accurate, albeit idealizing perception of her brother, even if he pulls himself together in front of her. (In the novels, Yamato later accuses Taichi of being too soft because of Hikari - and that shows that he doesn’t have a grasp of what has happened to him/them.) And obviously, Agumon has been around throughout all of Taichi’s development and has seen all his lowest lows - and the reasoning behind his behaviour. Taichi does have a lot of internal monologues as well, but Agumon still at least witnesses a lot of the things that may or may not have traumatized him - and if he has to join him in an alternate dimension to watch his child self fall from a bike to do so. I would argue that Mimi and Takeru see his inner struggles the least, Jyou assumably has an idea, but doesn’t know the exact whereabouts.
Tumblr media
Yamato: First and foremost, while Gabumon goes through Yamato’s development cycle in a similar way as Agumon goes through Taichi’s, Yamato may be even more prone to resort to internal monologues. Because Gabumon actually has to guess a lot more about why Yamato acts the way he does - especially in the Dark Masters’ arc at first. It’s only by the end of it, during his dark cave scene, that Yamato REALLY opens up to him about his inferiority complexes in regards to Taichi and Takeru. Prior to that... There isn’t that much. Taichi does get a few glimpses (and an emotional outbreak) out of him very early in the season and definitely has an awareness of how much the (somewhat uneven) relationship to Takeru affects him. Which may or may not be the main trigger for Yamato clashing against Taichi the most. That aside, the others mainly witness his more aggressive outbursts and barely get an explanation for it, especially Takeru and Jyou - who are also the ones who see his transformation towards the light side by the end of the series. While Sora may try to empathize with him on several occasions, Mimi and Hikari know him the least. Koushirou is one of the few characters he had an actual, albeit short heart to heart with at one point about Yamato’s wish to evolve himself further too (and he is probably still baffled at that - especially if you compare it to their novel relationship, in which it is outright stated that their perception of one another is skewed and that they have a hard time understanding each other).
Tumblr media
Sora: Interestingly enough, despite Sora being the one who tries to care about the others while keeping her problems to herself the most, she’s actually one of the characters the group (presumably) knows the most about in terms of her trauma. At least a good chunk of them does. She shrouds herself in mystery at first, only to then be (gently) forced by Taichi, Yamato and Takeru to open up about her relationship with her mother, her thinking that she doesn’t know what love is and that she’s only acting out of obligation - and each of the three boys has their own way of dealing with (and relating to) that (due to their own family related issues). Unfortunately, the other three do not witness that. With Piyomon, we can see that Sora doesn’t outright tell her everything, but that she tries her best to understand and put the puzzle pieces together (especially in the novels - and then again muuuuch later in Tri and To Sora, but let’s not get ahead here). During her own dark cave scene, Yamato and Takeru are joined by Jyou trying to tell her that she’s capable of making choices and that she’s not obliged to just act... Mimi may have a general idea of Sora’s inner struggles, which is why she tries to return the gentle reassurance in later parts of the series. Koushirou may, at this point in time, know the least about her in that regard.
Tumblr media
Koushirou: Oh boy. This part may actually end up being the shortest - because aside from Tentomon always being by his side, none of the other characters really witnesses his most daunting moments throughout the entire first season. And even then, Tentomon has a lot of guessing work (and eavesdropping) to do, because Koushirou doesn’t easily open up. While Taichi obviously has known him and his habits even before camp, he, just like everyone else, is not around when he has his epiphanies about his adoption, when he is stuck in a pocket dimension losing his way for 72 days, etc. Everyone else can basically just work off of assumptions about his behaviour and why he is the way he is (like Mimi, who is easily overwhelmed by his attitude at first), but even then, just like Sora does, it’s more likely that Koushirou’s contributing to somebody else working through their trauma (like in Taichi’s and Yamato’s cases).
Tumblr media
Mimi: As I had pointed out in a previous post, Mimi may be one of the few characters who was not traumatized prior to the events of the series. However, she is also one of the characters most affected by what is actually happening around her - so it is Sora who clearly understands why she got so easily corrupted due to being overwhelmed and encourages her to do the right thing. Jyou also has a good understanding of why she is the way she is, which is why he stays behind with her in the Dark Master’s arc and they both try to sort out their priorities and open up about why they behave in certain (maybe considered selfish) ways. The others are more or less seen often struggling (or avoiding to interact) with her; Taichi somewhat gets her and plays along, Takeru is usually just vibing with her; Koushirou may struggle the most, but also at least tries to get on the same page with her; Yamato definitely can empathize with her emotional reasoning at times, but doesn’t usually interact with her. She’s generally vibing with Palmon too, who has a more or less solid grasp of Mimi’s antics, even if there are parts where she is struggling with her as well.
Tumblr media
Jyou: Similarly to previous cases, Jyou is more prone to “inner monologue-ing” to the point of self sabotage. And interestingly enough, even if he appears to fall more into the same category as Sora because of that, he’s actually more similar to Taichi in that regard. Especially because, just like Agumon, Gomamon naturally witnesses Jyou’s struggles and is thus, more or less, able to put 1 and 1 together as to WHY he is the way he is - and then tries to poke these tendencies out of him in a more aggressive way. Jyou is not exactly prone to opening up to others either, but thanks to his development and realizations, involving heroic actions and speeches, all other characters witness at least one moment of courage when he is around. Still, Mimi may be the one who actually hears the most about his fears and struggles during their journey together in the Dark Masters’ arc, with him wanting to find his own way of doing things aside from expectations and peer pressure. Yamato, Takeru and Sora may have a good grasp of what he went through due to their experiences with him, but don’t know the whole story (novel!Jyou was close to opening up to Yamato, but chose not to burden him). Taichi may just be able to just guess what exactly is going on but it’ll take him a few years to fully relate to that, similarly with Koushirou (who seems to have a much better understanding for Jyou in the PSP games, actually noticing him being less gloomy and such).
Tumblr media
Takeru: Oh boy, once more. I think it is fair to say that the events of the series nurtured his trauma more than actually helping him to alleviate it. Since he’s the youngest throughout the majority of the series, he doesn’t really vent to anyone in order not to be an additional burden. He wants to be seen as an equal part of the squad after all. While Yamato may have a very simplified version of him in his head that pampers him a lot (and takes until the end of the series to let him be more independent), Taichi at least encourages him to do his own thing, having his big brother senses at full display. Which is why he may or may not have a good understanding as to why Takeru is so attached to him as well. Takeru’s monologue-ing a lot as well and, if anything, his rants (and outbursts) are usually directed at Patamon - which is mainly a good thing, because the conflicts these two go through help them to sort out their feelings at least a little better. Sora may have a better grasp of his issues than others and also encourages him to to step up on several occasions. Jyou is very similar here, being a younger brother himself who can make assumptions and also ends up rescuing Takeru a lot. With Mimi and Koushirou, it’s usually just general vibing, which doesn’t go deeper than that. Last but not least, Hikari may be able to get a good first impression of him due to all their similarities and her being empathetic, even if they don’t have a lot of time to adapt - they went through stuff together (even if he ends up burdening himself with the idea that he HAS to protect her at all costs, so she definitely also sees a more idealized version of him)...
Tumblr media
Hikari: Due to her lack of screentime, attachment to her brother and limited (emotional) interaction with the others, a lot of them can only really guess what is going on. Taichi is overly protective of her due to what they went through together as children and is majorly afraid of burdening/hurting/losing her; he of course has a general understanding of her not wanting to be a burden to anyone, but since Hikari is a literal enigma, it is very difficult for anyone to see through all her inner struggles. Yamato clearly has his own big brother senses tingling when he sees her crying; in terms of protectiveness, the same goes for Sora and Takeru when Hikari gets sick - but they don’t know the backstory, her proneness to sickness, her selflessness, etc. That is still reserved for Taichi trauma dumping on Koushirou, who also realizes very early on that Hikari is having a deeper connection to the Digital World than they may have initially thought (even if he doesn’t really have an emotional bond to her at this point in time, he’s still protective of her for her and Taichi’s sake). One needs to keep in mind that we hear all of that just from Taichi’s perspective though. Tailmon isn’t being told what is going on at this point in time and doesn’t know or understand a lot yet either, but that is also due to the lack of time and she is, obviously, protective regardless.

Since new official 02 art dropped, I love how excited the fandom got - and what I love even more are the theories that it has inspired. One of them being that the 02 kids are wearing Gabumon’s colours in honour of him coming back... And while their clothes are more likely inspired by the DigiFes 2023 logo, I absolutely adore the idea and thought... Why not?
Let’s have the 01 kids wear shirts inspired by the missing partners’ colours - and let them be committed to heal and to find them. Together. Let Koushirou, Mimi and Jyou be Taichi’s, Sora’s and Yamato’s emotional support!!!
(Stageplay pairs, because they are wholesome and beautiful and their bonds will always be precious to me.)

@digimon02countdown Day 5 - Adventure Chosen
As previously mentioned, Daisuke, Miyako and Iori all have their moments in which they're being mirrored with their predecessors - in my opinion, Iori's moments with Jyou and Koushirou are the most heartfelt of the bunch though. First of all, there is of course the fact that Iori is the youngest Chosen Child in the entire group - and Jyou and Koushirou, at this point in time, are already familiar enough with each other that they're implied to constantly communicate at the back of events. So, due to the fact that Iori is also an incredibly smart and reliable egg, it should come as no surprise that both Jyou and Koushirou IMMEDIATELY take him under their wings. And while neither of them belittles him or constantly treats him like a child, but basically like an equal among them - they both go into protective mode. Incredibly HARD and in surprisingly similar ways. They know he's curious and responsible and still has a lot to learn, so they're tremendously patient and kind to him, praising him when praise is due, fighting alongside him. And Iori pays it back, by adjusting and surprising them time and time again, overcoming his own boundaries, figuring out clever strategies and so on. It's actually a shame that we didn't see them spend more time together, especially since Jyou and Iori had a lot more time to get to know each other. Despite their age gaps, it's just nice to see them being so compatible and I am convinced they would only grow closer as time goes on!

@izumikoushiroweek: Day 2 - What are your Koushirou headcanons?
I probably have way too many headcanons for him to count, so I thought I'd be talking about 12, relating to each of the other Chosen Children and his Digimon partner.
Tentomon: As implied in this art, Tentomon has to remind Koushirou to not only use his PC set-up for work at times, but to get in touch with the outside world as well, including calling his parents. They maintain having a very loving bond and Koushirou actually enjoys talking to his family, even if he has that tendency to get lost in Chosen Children duty, thus pulling way too many allnighters in his office. Tentomon helps practicing to "talk about feelings" and such and since he was always integrated in almost all of Koushirou's activities as emotional support or "personal assistant" (aside from occasionally getting back into the server realm or Digital World to "recharge"), their bond has never vanished. (Practicing also includes hugs. Tentomon loves them dearly. Koushirou does too.)
Taichi: I probably have a million different headcanons when it comes to their bond, but I think one of the things I am particularly fond of is the idea that Taichi easily picked up on Koushirou's quirks and habits over the years - and that's why he notices stuff others don't realize that quickly. He is very particular about what exact brands of oolong tea Koushirou likes, that he cannot stand coffee or doesn't take alcohol very well. They also have tons of insiders and catchphrases other people just give them weird looks over. They're basically on each other's speed dial, especially considering they're working together as adults. And, last but not least, I think Taichi would be the very first human friend who learns about Koushirou's adoption history, being incredibly supportive about it. (One time, Yuuko probably said something along the lines of "If I could, I would already have adopted Koushirou-kun into our family" and Taichi almost flipped because of the wording, but Koushirou told him it was fine, since he knew she meant it well. They both get along with each other's moms very well by the way.)
Yamato: After they returned from the Digital World for the first time, Yamato actually fulfilled his (PSP game only) promise and showed Koushirou how to cook a few easy recipes (besides how to boil the perfect egg). While Koushirou will probably never be a master cook and prefers stuff that is easy to make/get and eat - and while working -, food is actually something they occasionally bond over. They may not be as passionate about it as Mimi and Daisuke, but they'd absolutely surprise the others with their very own curry creations.
Sora: I've probably mentioned this a million times already, but in my mind, they're destined to become "fashion (and texting) buddies". Takeru - as well as Mimi or Miyako - may be a hundred times more comfortable in being experimental, but these two definitely have to figure themselves out first and foremost, breaking some gender stereotypes in the meantime and would 100% be there for each other (while moping and bonding over Taichi's and Yamato's antics). Let Sora help Koushirou to find his own personal wardrobe while he would support her in getting her designs going digitally - once the time is right.
Mimi: Since Mimi slowly but steadily becomes more acquainted with technology through the years, it shouldn't be surprising that they're becoming "calling buddies". Mimi always preferred calling over typing and since Koushirou is helping her to set up her online business, they also end up chatting for hours without end about literally everything - and they absolutely suck at ending their calls. Mimi keeps telling Koushirou to rest, but she's terrible at just saying "Bye then!". Time zone differences make this even more of an issue and it often happens that one of them just falls asleep while the other rambles.
Jyou: Gomamon and Tentomon forced them to become "coffee shop buddies". I'm not kidding. They were so fed up with them burying themselves in uni/regular work that they ended up making them have "Go outside for a change, let's grab something to eat!!!" meetings once a month (at minimum, since Gomamon was done with cooking and wanted to get treats too and Tentomon loved the idea; occasionally they pull Sora and/or Taichi with them too). Since Jyou never felt intimidated by Koushirou's intellect but knows his struggles with "keeping his mental health together", they have an easy time blowing off some steam.
Takeru: Koushirou and Takeru actually grew closer with each other during "transition years" between middle and high school. With Taichi, Yamato and Sora facing high school entrance exams and eventually leaving middle school, Koushirou was more likely to spend time after school with "the 02 squad" for a while (and the two of them and Hikari would definitely have study sessions together at this point in time). Takeru is also among those who's more skilled with computers, which is why he's easily third admin of the Chosen Children network (with Miyako being second), but also likes to ask Koushirou for advice - who happily rambles along (and they're also "meme buddies", sending each other random stuff in the middle of the night they came across and thought the other would find interesting). Takeru will also be among the first who gets to hear about his adoption history in more detail and he'll absolutely feel more attached to Koushirou because of it.
Hikari: Aside from me being convinced that he is archiving all the photos she's been taking in the Digital World for years (while also helping her to set up her own digital photobooks), one of my favourite headcanons is that Hikari's the main reason why Koushirou turned out to be "a cat person"; he has been around the Yagami residence way too many times in his life and probably thought he couldn't really "get along" with cats in general. But Miko, after having been reluctant at first, warmed up to him rather quickly after Hikari kept her around in the same room as them. So the cat would just end up resting next to him while he was typing away on his laptop. (Sometimes he watches Tentomon curling into a ball when falling asleep next to him and Koushirou cannot help but feel reminded of a cat as well and he finds it adorable.)
Daisuke: Despite Ken being the closest person to him overall, Daisuke has had a hard time talking to Koushirou for YEARS, still having a tendency of wanting to appear extra smart in front of him. It was a lot easier when Taichi, Ken or Mimi were around, he could talk normally then, but even worse when Takeru was there too, because he felt double-intimidated. Koushirou noted that behaviour, didn't get it though, so Taichi had to explain it to him in a sense of "Imagine being the new kid in football club that thinks he can't kick a ball if the ace striker is watching him", to which Koushirou just nodded. They absolutely met for a football match a few days later - and that's how Koushirou ended up in goal, Daisuke, who scored numerous goals against him, started to act a lot less tense afterwards.
Ken: Imagining a scenario in which Menoa gets redeemed (and maybe after they find a way to get their partners back), I could see Koushirou and Ken being very keen to make her realize that she should also rather invest her intellect in improving the infrastructure between the worlds instead of harbouring feelings of vengeance and bitterness... They're all smart muffins with bug babies after all. (And Koushirou would definitely be interested in figuring out why both Ken and Menoa were so prone to "getting corrupted" while he himself was mostly spared... They're not exactly prone to trauma dumping, Ken in particular struggles with it a lot, but that's another case of "once he knows Koushirou's back story, it gets easier to open up.")
Miyako: Miyako pretends that she's bothered by Chosen Children Network duty a lot, and it maaaay be a bit bothersome at times, but the truth is that she felt intimidated by all the effort Koushirou put into it. Aside from Iori, she always looked up to him as senpai the most and didn't want to appear incapable in comparison. If Koushirou didn't know he could entrust it to her, he would have given it to Takeru first, but despite her spunky, sometimes unpredictable nature, he trusted in her judgement and communicative skills from the start without a doubt.
Iori: By the start of his uni life, Iori really values the privacy of Koushirou's office to use it as study space - especially because he's getting resources there for law school he wouldn't easily get access to without spending horrendous amounts of money. And because they just enjoy each other's company, being a lot more grounded than the rest of their friends. Just like in middle school, they end up having study sessions, often joined by Takeru, but also occasionally by Ken, going through several of their study subjects - sometimes they even go for outside activities (because Koushirou is most likely not used to those anymore and needs to keep up on physical training too - when they get the opportunity, they take Jyou with them too).

*This means you'd want to pick the character you could never see compatible with any but one specific character! Can be seen as an OTP thing, can also be seen as a "man, this character really has most/only (romantic or platonic) chemistry with that one person, huh" thing, that's completely up to you!
