Sometimes we go after the impossible. For me it is about finding the limit of my endurance then going beyond. This video explains why I have to try and fail with so many of my fitness regimes until I feel I’m towards perfection. But to be honest I don’t believe perfection exists because I will always strive to do better and I encouraged our to do likewise. What happens when you ditch all the distractions and take running back to its purest form? That’s exactly what the ASICS Blackout track experiment – dropping runners onto a 150m pitch-dark track with nothing but white noise and their own thoughts for company – has been trying to find out. A few weeks back @asicseurope invited me down to this temporary track to give it a go. 🏃♂️🏃♂️ My immediate reaction was that I didn't think I'd enjoy running repetitive loops in dark isolation but to my surprise I found the whole thing really quite liberating. As a running tech writer I'm very much plugged into the matrix when I run and so having all of the trackers and monitors removed felt odd at first but I loved the metronomic loops and the way my thoughts changed mid-run as I started to accept that I didn't know when my time would be up, how many laps I'd done or what pace I was running. I settled into a rhythm that it can be hard to find when you're constantly on the watch. Today I ran 7 miles. It wasn’t my best time, but I felt the pinch from doing 10 miles yesterday.
I have started to find mindfulness with my running though which hadn’t been there before. There were long periods of time during this run when I realised that I had been thinking about nothing and then snapping back into being aware. It was really lovely.
The more I do, I know the more I will feel this. Running is so addictive and magical.
I wish I had started this at an earlier age, but I can’t live with regrets as I can only move forward! Regretting things has been a specialism of mine in the past and to overcome the fears in my life I have to keep working on how I can make progress for myself.

I keep dipping in and out of this funk where I just don’t have energy to speak or make conversation even though I’ve got loads to say. I ended up feeling claustrophobic and so took myself for a run despite not being at my own house. The temperature was cool, I wasn’t trying to push instead I was just running, and even though the park was busy I was in my own space feeling my body move and hearing my steady breath. Happy Thanksgiving🍁!! . . Turkey Trot 2017 proved big gains....5 miles @ 9:07min/mi = 45:19 mins 🏃♀️ Not a PR by any means BUT, drum roll please...AVERAGE HR = 151 BPM with 90% in my aerobic zone. Wow! 🙌🏻 I have come so far. Just over 2 years ago, I was only able to stay within my aerobic zone if I walked. Today I completed a 5 miler close to my PR 90% aerobic. Quick run with the Doggy this morning. Then back to make some of these beauties. I read so much about #mentalhealthawarenessday yesterday. So many people sharing their stories. Just because you can't see your mind it doesn't mean you shouldn't look after it. Running is amazing for looking after your mind. I find a run with my crazy energetic dog sets me up for the day. It wears him out so he chills out while I'm creating and I can literally run any problems or issues out of my mind before the day had started.
