my headcanon of Illagers, Villagers, and Witches ^^

That one villager post got one like so I will now fulfill my promise.

I know I said Villager but this is mostly just Illager stuff so ermmm yeah

The ancient builders were masters of technology and magic and the illagers clearly wanted some of that, given their repeated attempts to create wool replicas of mobs and builder-exclusive items like end portal frames and beds. But why would they need to create wool replicas of beds when Villagers are shown to be able to make them no prob? Well, in the woodland mansions, none of the rooms have crafting tables (they also don’t have any other similar blocks like furnaces or anvils but that’s not important), sure, they have chests and other blocks that require crafting, but who’s to say the ancient builders didn’t do it for them? After the disappearance of the Ancient Builders, the Illagers begun to study magic more in an attempt to make up for the loss of their only source of crafting. The villagers learned to live off the land and respect the world around them while the illagers became so accustomed to power that they lost touch of themselves and crumbled away the second their benefactors died off. Their raids on villages are now not just to show off their power and tear them down to build pillager outposts, but also an attempt to figure out how to do those things that the ancient builders used to do, like brew potions or craft items. Ironically, their quest for power has left them powerless, desperate, doing whatever it takes to get on the same level as the Ancient Builders who once aided them.

Had an idea for expanding on illagers in a hypothetical mod idea,, basically, if you work for it you can gain a good reputation with illagers by being 'evil' with the tradeoff of losing access to regular villagers.

Killing traders, killing iron golems, killing villagers, and stealing from village chests will lower your reputation with regular villagers, but raise it with illagers. Villagers will act as they do in games at first, but as you rack up bad reputation iron golems will be automatically hostile and villagers will refuse to trade and run away from you.

Illagers will become neutral with a low villager reputation, and with enough bad reputation illagers can be traded with, with generally higher quality trades for steeper prices and a smaller pool of possible trades.

Vindicators could sell you axes or buy axes with certain enchantments for lots of emeralds,

Pillagers will sell/buy arrows

Evokers can trade and totems and maybe new items that would allow you to spawn your own vexes

Witches will sell you potions

Illagers will also behave more like villagers, sleeping and having routines like patrolling and conversing with the other illagers. They can also breed like normal villagers, producing an very adorable and very bratty baby illager (I imagine there would be a chance that when near one it has a chance to run up to you, punch you, and scamper off)

When in favor of illagers you can start and participate in a raid, and succeeding at killing all the villagers will grant you a status effect similar to hero of the village, (hero of the raid?) That will put discounts on illager trades and drop your villager reputation to absolute zero. You can also ride on the ravager's back yay yippee

You can never play both sides though. You can either be in the good graces of illagers or villagers. Not both.

The alliance between witches and illagers is so shakey its kind of funny. They both know they gain from working together but god do they wish they didn't.

Witches manage to keep their alliance by keeping potion recipes, and antidotes to themselves. The ones that are allowed the "privilege" of staying within mansions pass on illager fighting tactics to the others in case potions alone won't fend the illagers off.

Illagers don't like anyone that isn't them. Even then that's kind of debatable. In fact they view witches in the same way that they view villagers, below them. If it weren't for the fact that illagers are too busy figuring out a different type of magic, and if witches weren't to gatekeepy with their brewing knowledge, they'd have broken their alliance long ago.

They're both passive to eachothers faces but behind closed doors they hold such disdain against the other. It's a miracle they're even able to work together at all.

Hr doesn't have a name yet, nor does his Evoker bestie or the pet Vex.... But uhhh he's the last human in the Minecraft world, and he's a notorious thief and adventurer. He got put in Illager jail bc he tried to loot a woodland mansion and that's how he met his bestie... He's a huge troublemaker, and he loves all kinds of rare things, even if they're useless junk.

The Evoker dude is like... the chill to his incredible hyperactivity. His pet Vex means a lot to them, after his first one died tragically... I'm thinking that the Vex might be named Bean or something cute
