Tumblr media

Prompt:
7) "I'm not jealous!"
16) You and your bias kiss to prove you don't have feelings for each other.
Pairing: Monsta X Minhyuk x Reader
Genre: Fluff
.
A low whistle greeted you as you walked into the living area.
"You look hot," Changkyun growled from his spot by the window. He was laying on the floor, shirtless, sunning himself like a lizard.
"You look hot," you laughed in return. "Like temperature wise. Why are you laying in the sun?"
"Hot water's out," he muttered. "I became a Changkyun-sicle trying to wash up."
You shook your head before plopping on the couch. "Where's Min?"
"Likely incurring the wrath of winter," he grumbled. As you continued to stare at him, he motioned toward the hallway. "It was his turn to shower."
That explained the high-pitched scream you heard while you were getting dressed.
As if being summoned by his name alone, you heard a door down the hall creak open, and footsteps pad out. Stumbling into the room with you, Minhyuk scrubbed a towel over his still damp hair. You tried to keep your eyes focused on his face, but it was difficult when all he was wearing was a pair of pajama pants slung low across his hips.
"Y/N," he hiccupped in surprise, immediately dropping his towel to cover his torso. The tips of his ears were turning redder by the minute. "I thought you had left."
"Nope," you croaked, trying to clear the sight of Minhyuk's body from your mind. "My Lyft driver is stuck in traffic."
"Right," he nodded, sidestepping toward the other side of the room. Reaching into the coat closet, he pulled out a hoodie and yanked it over his head. "I was too busy being naked to mention it, but you look gorgeous."
"Thank you," you said, unable to maintain eye contact. Minhyuk was always the first to dish out a compliment (or his opinion in general). His words had an easy way of causing you to blush, whether he was poking fun or genuinely gassing you up.
"Where are you going looking like that?" he asked, dropping onto the couch beside you.
"I have a date," you said quietly, still refusing to look up. It had been a long time since you had actually been out with someone, let alone someone you were hopeful about. "Changkyun introduced me to-"
"Who?" Minhyuk cut in before you could finish.
"Hyungwon," Changkyun hummed dismissively. "Boy has no game."
"Hyungwon!" Minhyuk gasped.
You turned to look at him, furrowing your brow. Changkyun and Minhyuk circulated the same circles and had mostly the same friends. You had assumed that if Changkyun offered to set you up with someone, Minhyuk would approve as well. Not that you needed his approval...it just...would have been nice.
Your relationship with Minhyuk was something you could brag about. He was such a passionately good friend that even his quirks didn't ruffle your dynamic. He was loud, energetic, and a shock to the system for many, but those were the people that didn't get to see him in his quiet moments. He was so soft and sweet. It was hard to grapple with the intrinsic need to cuddle him and simply take care of him.
"That was the name I said, yes," Changkyun sighed, glancing up at his friend as well. "What's the problem?"
"W-well," Minhyuk struggled. His brain was working overtime. "He's not dateable! Like at all!"
"Name one reason."
"Okay," he hummed, thinking. Launching up from the couch, he exclaimed, "He smells bad!"
"Oh, come on," Changkyun laughed. "He does not smell bad."
"He does!" Minhyuk insisted, beginning his pacing.
You were shocked that he was acting this way. Normally, both Changkyun and Minhyuk were supportive of almost all of your endeavors. Amazingly, that seemed to not include dating.
"Min," you laughed, shaking your head. Your eyes followed him as he walked back and forth. "Why are you acting like this?"
Changkyun sat up instantly, grinning mischievously. "I can tell you why."
Minhyuk paused his steps and shot a glare in the younger man's direction. "I just want what's best for you, Y/N!"
"Oooor," Changkyun purred. "He's jealous."
Changkyun's words landed like a slap. You were stunned by the possibility he presented. There was no way that Minhyuk could be jealous of you seeing someone else. That just wasn't like him.
Or you assumed it wasn't. Thinking back, you hadn't been in a serious relationship since your friendship had started. He was very protective of your time together and... well, protective of your attention in general.
"I'm not jealous!" Minhyuk groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What reason would I have to be jealous?"
"Maybe, and try to follow me here," Changkyun smiled. "You like Y/N."
Your mouth popped open in surprise as Minhyuk looked around the room, panicked.
"I love Y/N," Minhyuk nodded, avoiding eye contact. "We all do."
"Noooo," Changkyun chimed. "We do love Y/N, but you loooove Y/N."
"For fuck's sake," Minhyuk muttered, covering his eyes. "Stop trying to stir the pot! There is nothing to be stirred!"
"Oh contraire," Changkyun chuckled, living for this moment. "I think your reaction is proving that there is plenty to be stirred."
You looked from Minhyuk to Changkyun and back again. Mouth suddenly dry, you tried to find words to add to the conversation. "Is...is that true, Min?"
Minhyuk didn't bother uncovering his eyes as he groaned. "Of course not, don't be ridiculous."
Part of you wilted at his statement. You had never really thought of Minhyuk in that way, but now that it was presented, you couldn't say it wasn't appealing.
Changkyun watched you carefully before turning back to the older man. "Prove it."
"I'm sorry," Minhyuk sighed, dropping his hands. "Prove what?"
"Prove that you don't have feelings for Y/N," Changkyun insisted.
"And how exactly do you expect me to do that?" Minhyuk grumbled, eying you with a pout.
"Kiss," Changkyun prodded. "Kiss Y/N and prove that you two don't have feelings for each other."
"That's stupid," Minhyuk scoffed. "Y/N doesn't want to-"
"I'll do it," you chirped, heat immediately radiating across your neck.
"See, they don't want to-" Minhyuk halted, having realized what you said. "You'll do it?"
"Sure," you continued, uncertain of what had gotten into you. "We'll just kiss and that'll be that."
"Right," Minhyuk said carefully. "That will be that."
"What's a kiss between friends?" Changkyun mocked. Waving his hands through the air, he motioned for you to stand.
Moving unsteadily to your feet, you crossed the room to stand in front of Minhyuk. Bared before him, you suddenly felt ripped open. The realization that you hoped he had feelings for you was dizzying. You were willing to let him in. He could have you if he wanted.
But did he?
Rolling his eyes, Minhyuk finally directed his attention to you. "This is silly."
"So silly," you said dumbly, glancing up at him through your lashes. You couldn't help but notice that his breathing had turned shallow.
"We don't have to do this," he whispered, his brows drawn together. "If you don't feel comfortable-"
"I want to," you interrupted. "Gotta prove your innocence, right?"
"I have nothing to prove to him," Minhyuk grumbled, glaring above your shoulder at what you could only suspect was Changkyun and his shit-eating grin.
"Then prove it to me," you said quietly.
Minhyuk's gaze latched onto you again. Sucking on his bottom lip, his eyes tunneled deep into yours, trying to reconcile his next move. You lifted your brows, waiting in silence.
After a few more seconds, Minhyuk's hands crept slowly up your arms. Sliding over your shoulders, they came to rest on either side of your neck, his pointer and thumb splayed across your jaw. Giving him a short nod of reassurance, you watched as he drew closer, and placed his mouth lightly on yours.
There weren't fireworks, but this kiss wasn't meant for that. It was meant to be questioning. It was meant to be soft and shy.
Taking a deep inhale through his nose, he pulled away again to exhale. Keeping his eyes closed, he set his forehead against yours. "Every butterfly that has ever existed are now all in my stomach."
You let out a breathy chuckle before pulling away from him. Opening his eyes, he looked at you questioningly. His fingers remained wrapped around your neck, not eager to let go.
"Min," you whispered. "Kiss me."
It took him a few moments to register your words before he began nodding to himself. Leaning in again, he pressed his lips more firmly against yours. Reaching up, you gripped his hoodie in your fists and pulled him even closer. You opened your mouth to the kiss, realizing you were both smiling as Minhyuk staggered against you.
There were the fireworks. For as bright of a person as Minhyuk was, it was unsurprising that his kiss made you see stars. Everything that had been unsaid over the duration of your friendship was being poured into his zealous affections.
Dropping one of his hands from your jaw, he wrapped an arm around your waist. You tilted your head back, attempting to get a better vantage for the kiss. Your lips seemed to melt together, tongues working in sync, with small giggles erupting from either of you at any moment.
Changkyun loudly cleared his throat, causing both of you to jump. Minhyuk dropped his face into your shoulder and let out a chuckle. "I completely forgot we weren't alone."
"You're about to be," Changkyun laughed, pulling himself to his feet. "I have to text Hyungwon so he's not ghosted."
You winced, turning to look at Changkyun. "I'm so sorry. I-"
"He'll live," Changkyun grinned. "This is much better. I love being right."

Promise
Pairing: Lee Minhyuk x Reader Haunted House Genre: Fluff Words: 1038

Tumblr media
“C’mon please~” You begged. Halloween was your favorite holiday. You absolutely loved all the fun activities: getting dressed up, pumpkin carving, decorating, eating candy, movie marathons, and especially haunted houses. Your boyfriend, however, was not such a fan.
He did enjoy the tamer aspects like candy, costumes, carving, and the pg-13 movies, but he was not big on the more spooky sides of things, especially haunted houses.
But you had gotten him to agree to go this year back in January. He had said he would face his fears just for you, and yet, here you were having to plead and beg him to keep his promise.
🎃
He kept his promise. Of course he did, he is your reliable, sweet boyfriend. He’s never gone back on a promise, but he sure as hell regrets promising it to begin with—that much you know.
But here you both were, waiting for your turn to head inside the decorated warehouse. A few stragglers had meandered your way a few times. Minhyuk played the role of the big strong, protective boyfriend, but you could feel the slight tremble in the arms wrapped around your waist. So you squeezed his hand a little tighter each time.
You two were next to go in and you could feel another surge of trembling work its way down his arms. He tried to suppress it, but it forced its way out anyway. You leaned up and pressed a firm kiss to his cheek, offering him a big smile.
You kept a tight hold on him as you both waddled through the maze. You’d be deaf before the night was over at this rate, but you wouldn’t give up this experience for the world. Your favorite guy and your favorite activity all in one go.
And then things had to go to hell.
Somehow, you had ended up separated despite how entangled you’d been only minutes ago. Minhyuk had gotten jumpscared from behind and loosened his grip, and then you entered one of those inflatable sections—the ones that felt like you were being birthed. When you turned around, he was gone.
Funnily enough, this was your least favorite thing: alone in a haunted house, while somewhere in this giant maze was your terrified boyfriend. You had promised to hold his hand the whole way through, but how the hell were you supposed to keep your promise this way?
You didn’t know what to do. It was dark and loud and frankly, kinda smelly. So you figured the best option was to try to find the exit, and you continued forward. But the scare actors don’t know the predicament you’re in. They’re trying to do their job—succeeding if your screams are anything to go by.
Another murderer, an actor, popped out and got in your face. Apparently your anxiety had gotten too high without you realizing, because this guy just happened to be the tipping point.
You dropped to your knees, basically in a fetal position, and cried. You were scared. Only a little bit due to the haunted house and the constant barrage of well-disguised and makeup-ed actors. But mostly, it was because of the fact that you had no idea where your boyfriend was, and you were the reason he got lost in there to begin with.
Arms lifted you from the floor, and at first, you told them to stop. The haunted house wasn’t known to touch visitors, but there weren’t any rules firmly against it either. But then you were huddled close to someone’s chest, a very familiar chest, and your cries quieted.
You looked up to meet the eyes of your lovely boyfriend. He carried you out the rest of the way, thankfully you’d dropped to the floor only a hallway away from the exit. When you were finally out and no longer overstimulated, he helped you breathe. He rubbed your back and shushed each apology. Then he explained his perspective.
The inflatable birthing tube-thing had been the cause of your separation. He simply couldn’t push through all the way while his arms were wrapped around you. By the time he had gotten through, you’d lost sight of each other in the dark. He pushed aside his fear in order to ask the next actor he saw which way the exit was. The man had been nice enough to explain it to him, even said couples got split up and lost all the time.
You still tried to apologize again, but Minhyuk shut you up real quick. His lips melded with yours for several long minutes and when he pulled away, he said the only thing that really scared him was seeing you curled up on the floor panicking like that.
🎃
You agreed to never make him go to a haunted house again. He made you both hot cocoa, and then snuggled up next to you on the couch, eager to re-watch Hocus Pocus for the third time this year. He kissed your temple gently.
“What was that for?” You asked quietly while looking up at him. He nosed along your cheek.
“I love you, that’s what.” Your heart melted. Even if you didn’t have the same favorite activities, or even the same favorite holiday; even if he was a bit of a scaredy cat for most things, he was never afraid to take the scary steps with you.
“I love you too, Min.” You smiled up at him cheesily.
“I have a new promise to make.” He stated suddenly as he looked into your eyes. You tilted your head, confused. “I promise to make Halloween my favorite holiday.” He said with narrowed eyes as if daring you to challenge him.
“And how exactly are you gonna do that?”
“By making it the same time as our anniversary. I wanna marry you next Halloween.”
Your heart stopped. You stared and stared and stared, and then you lunged. Your lips collided messily with his, but that didn’t stop you. You kissed him long and hard, and when he needed to breathe, you peppered kisses all along his jaw and cheeks. “Is that a yes?”
“I wanna marry you, too.” You breathed out finally with glassy eyes. “Yes, I want to marry you.”

Marshmallow
Summary: All cozied up by the campfire, roasting marshmallows and laughing about old times and creating new memories.
Oneshot
Fluff, Established Relationship au
Word Count: 2,940
Hyungwon X Reader
[Features: OT7! Monsta X]
[A/n: I've written marshmallow so many times while writing this that it no longer looks like the word. Anyways, if you’ve heard Hyungwon’s newest OST ‘Now’, I tried to incorporate the bridge of that song into this too~. I don’t want to spoil anything, but Jeonghan helped inspire part of this. Also, a special thanks to @jinkoh for encouraging this idea along!]
------
You get out of your car with cups and plates, knowing everyone has gotten the rest of the supplies. You couldn’t wait to spend the next day and a half in this lovely forest with your seven closest friends. It’s the perfect way to spend October. You make your way to the campfire, the leaves crackling under your feet. The beginning of fall felt so warm and cozy, although the weather was turning colder by the minute.
You quicken your pace as you hear the yammering of your friends in the distance. You rush up and are greeted with several loud “Hello's,” You had arrived a little later than the rest of the crowd to your annual campfire and log cabin stay. But you couldn’t be more excited to see your boyfriend. “Won!” You cheer, and he stops what he’s doing, turns back to see you, and smiles, “(N/n)!” He meets you in the middle and kisses the top of your head, “Did you make it up here safe?” You nod, and he smiles, “I’m putting away the drinks into the coolers. I think Hoseok wants the utensils and things up at the house.” You nod and kiss his cheek before walking over to the log cabin.
You head into the kitchen and put away the cups and plates you brought. That’s when you hear a cheer of your name, “(Y/n)!” and you turn back, “Jooheon!” He gives you a hug, “How have you been?!” You shrug and go, “Okay, and you?” He nods, “About the same, but it's nice to be back up here.” You agree, “I wonder what shenanigans we'll get up to this year.” He smirks, “I have a few ideas~” You laugh, “New games?” He nods as Hyunwoo comes in with chips and other snacks, “Anything good?” He smiles, “All of our favorites!” You grin, “Snack time is going to be great then!” The two smile and agree as you excuse yourself out of the cabin.
You come out to see what else you can do to prepare for the big fire tonight. You grab some trash lying about and throw it away. There was nothing else to do since everyone was already starting to wind down from their tasks. You continue looking around until you spot Hyungwon leaning against his explorer, drinking a pop. And he locks eyes with you before finishing his sip as you walk over to him. He reaches into the cooler and snaps open another can, “For you~” You smile and take a drink before joining him leaning against his car.
You tap your cans together without the risk of it spilling everywhere. You ask, “How was work?” And he shrugs, “The record store was slow for this time of year.” You nod and he asks, “How’s the office?” You shrug, “It was nice, but I was reminded of why I dislike it today.” “Why?” You ramble on about how your boss kept piling on the work, even when she knew you were leaving for a trip today. “That sucks.” You sigh, “Yeah.” He wraps his arm behind you, “But you’re here now. Your boss can shove it from here on out.” You laugh and lean into his chest, “I like the sound of that.” He hums, “Good.” You drink your pop and shiver, “It’s a little cold to be drinking pop.” He laughs, “I was thinking the same thing.” You ask, “You wanna go inside for a bit?” He agrees, and you put your free arm behind his back as you both walk back to the log cabin.
Hoseok comes in with Changkyun after you two and says, “We finished getting the firewood for later.” And Kihyun says, “Perfect.” Minhyuk goes, “Let’s all sit back and watch a few movies until then.” Hyunwoo announces, “I’ll get the snacks!” Hyungwon and you sit in the armchair together, placing your cold pops into the two cup holders, “I feel a bit warmer now.” He laughs, “Me too.” The two of you curl up together, and he grabs the blanket from behind him. Careful of your pops, he throws the blanket over both of you. Jooheon cheers as he chooses, “The Great Pumpkin!” Hyunwoo returns with two bowls of popcorn, chips, and various little candies.
Changkyun puts smaller bowls out to make it easier on you guys since you are all spaced out from the coffee table. You move the blanket down to reach for a bowl and scoop out some popcorn. And you turn back, “Want anything else?” He shakes his head, and you sit against his chest again. Jooheon starts the movie once everyone settles into their spots. And you enjoy the movie peacefully, giggling every once in a while as you eat popcorn.
Once the night draws closer and you’ve all finished two movies. You join Hoseok in starting the fire, piling the wood strategically together. You douse it with lighter fluid, and the both of you stand back as he throws a lit match onto the pile. You high-five as it catches on fire, and he asks, “Do you want to tend to the fire while I go help Kihyun grill?” You nod, “Sounds fine.” You poke it with your fire stoker, coaxing it to grow bigger and brighter.
Once all of the firewood is burning, you sit down on a log in front of it. And the rest of your friends slowly start joining you on the logs. Hyungwon sits down beside you as Hoseok passes out the plates. Kihyun comes around with roasted vegetables and smoked meat, serving everyone their fair share. You bite into a piece, “It’s as good as ever. Thanks, Ki!” He smiles, and everyone yells out their compliments as he puts the last serving on his plate.
Kihyun gets up after finishing his first plate and asks, “Who wants seconds?!” You all cheer for another round, and Hyunwoo gets up to help him as everyone starts telling stories. Minhyuk begins, “So I’m leaving for work, right?” “Yeah,” He sighs, “The boss comes in, tells me I have more paperwork to do, and I ask if I’m getting overtime for it. And he told me ‘no’, so I told him ‘No, I won’t be doing it’. He didn’t like that. Let’s just say tomorrow. I'm having a 'friendly' talk with his supervisor in the morning. Cause I’m not going to do work, I’m not being paid for.” Hyungwon goes, “Damn right.” And he talks about the record shop and how slow it’s gotten. Although, they've put up their Halloween decorations, which is nice.
Hoseok talks about his dance studio and the new trainees he’s teaching, and Changkyun and Jooheon tell you all about their adventures in producing music this year. You talk about your job and how your boss was piling on work for you today, even though she knew you were leaving for the day. Minhyuk pats your back, “Damn, our bosses suck.” You laugh, and Hoseok chimes in, “You could always work for one of us~” You both roll your eyes and tell him, “Some of us don’t want to live entrepreneur lives.” While Minhyuk says, “My money is for fun, I don't need to work.” You all laugh, and Kihyun and Hyunwoo bring back the food.
“What are we talking about?” Hoseok shrugs, “Our careers.” Kihyun smiles, “Oh! I invested in the right assets this year, so I’ve been able to take fewer shifts at the bakery to supplement!” Hyungwon smirks and teases, “Young Flexer,” which causes Kihyun to groan, “I said it once, and you’ve never let me forget it…” You all laugh, and Hyungwon says, “That’s what friends are for.” He squints at him as he puts the meat onto his plate, “It’s so lovely being friends with you” Hyunwoo passes out the vegetables and says, “I’ve been working at the gym like usual and at Hoseok’s studio these past few weeks.” Hoseok goes, “Oh! You should show them your new moves.” He shakes his head, and you all cheer, “Hyunwoo! Hyunwoo! Hyunwoo!” He puts the empty plate down and dances a few feet from the fire. You all cheer and clap as he finishes, and he gets shy, “That’s the new moves I learned…” Changkyun goes, “Damn, his moves are smooth.” You all agree before eating your second helping of food.
You take everyone’s plates and tell them you're going to wash them. As you walk back to the cabin with the empty dishes, Hyungwon comes up behind you, “You wanna wash them together?” You nod, “That would be lovely.” He smiles, takes some of them off your hands, and opens the screen door. As you fill the sink with soapy water, you ask, “Are you ready for marshmallows?” He nods, “Hell yeah, I am! It’s like the second best part of this trip.” You raise your eyebrow at him, “What’s the best part then? Because the marshmallows are like rewards…” He smiles, “Getting to spend this trip with you.” You bump him with your hip and go, “Yeah, that is pretty nice.” He pouts, “Just nice…” With your dry hand, you ruffle his hair, “It’s been my dream to spend these trips as your lover since we were younger. So, it's greater than nice.” Before kissing his cheek, he nods, “That’s better. And it's been mine, too.” You grin as the two of you work in harmony washing the dishes. When he puts the last plate on the drying rack, he goes, “All this water is getting to me…” You laugh, “You go use the restroom. I’ll put away the plates.” He nods and rushes off to the bathroom while you dry and put the dishes away.
You decide to wait for him by the fire. You sit back down on the log you were sitting on before to see everyone starting to finish up their jobs. You rub your hands together before putting them close to the fire. Everyone starts gathering around the fire, and Hoseok stokes the flame to grow a little brighter for the marshmallows. You hear someone approach you and look up to see Hyungwon, and he pouts, “You got here before me.” You smile and pat your lap, “It’s your turn.” He raises his eyebrow and asks, “You sure?” You nod, and he grins and moves to one side of you before sitting down on your lap. You giggle as you wrap an arm behind his back, and he tells you, “You’re warm.” And he snuggles into your embrace, and you laugh, “You’re cold.” He whispers, “It feels unreal for you to hold me.” You grin as you whisper, “I could say the same.” Minhyuk whines, “You know there is more room on the logs to sit on than being all coupley!” You both smirk at each other and go, “Jealous, are we?” He rolls his eyes, and you both laugh in victory. Changkyun comes around, handing everyone a marshmallow skewer. When everyone settles into their spots, you all start roasting your marshmallows.
Jooheon passes the chocolate bar and graham cracker plate around, and Hyungwon fashions both of your s'mores while you hold him on your lap. He hands the plate to Minhyuk before saying, “Ahh~” you laugh as you open your mouth, and he feeds you a s'more. Using your free hand, you feed him one of his. Hoseok goes, “This is the first year we’re only here for a day and a half.” Jooheon sighs, “I wish we had more time. I miss the days we would stay out here for a week or so.” Changkyun chimes in, “Some of my best memories are here.” Kihyun laughs, “Yeah, like when Joo dared you to go skinny dipping?” Changkyun laughs, “It crossed it off my bucket list. What about when you made out with that tree when you were drunk?” Kihyun groans, “I thought it was someone else... My lips hurt for weeks.”
You both have another marshmallow sandwich while they converse. And Hyunwoo goes, “Remember how we dared those two,” he points at the two of you, “to kiss for the first time?” You smile, and Jooheon says, “And now they can’t get enough of each other…” You smile and look up at Hyungwon, “Yeah, he’s right.” He grins and kisses your nose, “Yeah, I’m so glad Minhyuk dared us.” Minhyuk says, “I’m still waiting for my thank you!” And you both roll your eyes, “Thanks, Min.”
The stories and games continue into the night, each game growing more and more ridiculous than the last with the more drinks you each have. You were standing yelling, “Taka-Taka!” As Hyungwon and Jooheon went, “Heing-Heing” Changkyun for once able to follow your movements as you attacked him, and he did it right back at you. Causing you to fall to the ground in defeat, not expecting it. He cackles the loudest as you whine and drink another sip of beer before standing up and continuing the game.
When that game finally ends, you crumple onto the log beneath you. You murmur when Hyungwon is earshot, “You guys wear me out.” And he sighs, “Tell me about it.” You pat your lap, “I wanna hold you to recoup.” He lets out a breathless laugh as he nods before sitting back on your lap. “You’re like an oversized teddy bear.” You nuzzle your head into his stomach and relax. “This is nice.” He giggles, “That tickles.” You move your mouth away and say, “Sorry!” He shrugs, and you hold him tighter before adjusting and resting your head against his shoulder. “You okay?” You shake your head as Jooheon goes, “Alright, everyone rested for another round?” Hyungwon looks down at you, “No?” You shake your head, and he agrees, “Let’s go lay down.”
Hyungwon tells him you're both tired, and he gets up off of you and holds his hand out to you. Tiredly, you ask, “You guys got the fire?” They nod as you accept Hyungwon’s hand. He helps you up as they wish you both sweet dreams. You two do the same and walk back hand in hand. As you get up to the cabin, you stop him, “You know this is our second time up here as a couple?” He agrees, “Yeah... Somehow, I can't believe it.” You nod, and he squeezes your hand before continuing, “I hope we continue to do this many more times.” You grin and kiss his cheek, “Me too.” Before sweeping his hair behind his ear and kissing him, he grins as he pulls back and places his forehead against yours, “It's almost unreal that you're mine.” You smile and whisper, “I'm glad this is real and that you're mine too.” He grins and holds you closer to him as you continue to the cabin and into your shared room.
You both change into comfortable clothes, and he joins you underneath the covers. You face each other for a moment before he turns you over and wraps himself around you, “It’s my turn to cuddle you.” You giggle, “Okay.” He whispers as you both start falling asleep, “You're like a deep dream to me.” You whisper back, “You're the same for me.” He hums and agrees before you both fall asleep, dreaming of each other.
The two of you sleep in while the rest are out and about doing who knows what. It isn’t until Kihyun knocks and lets you two know that they’re having lunch with or without you guys that you get up. You both repack your small backpack before joining the guys at the table.
You serve yourself up some ramen and other goodies from the middle and eat happily. Changkyun cheers, “You guys missed it last night!” Hyungwon and you both wait for him to continue as Minhyuk sneezes, “We finished putting the fire out, and I guess we misjudged how drunk Min got…” You both raise your eyebrows, “He fell right into the ashes.” He sneezes again, “I think I still have ashes up my nose…” Hoseok goes, “We hosed him off before he entered the house.” You look at Minhyuk in worry, and Kihyun shrugs, “Don’t worry, we supplied him with clean, warm clothes.” You nod, “Good.”
They continue telling you what went down after you two went to bed. Jooheon pouted as they told you how he dropped the rest of the marshmallows into the dirt, “I didn’t mean to! I was excited.” Hyunwoo shrugs, “He fell on his ass while ‘heighing’ knocked the open bag down.” You all cackle at that, and Changkyun ruffles his hair, “It’s okay, baby, everyone makes mistakes.” He nods and cheers up, and before long, it’s time to leave the lovely cabin.
Hoseok asks as you guys leave, “Maybe we can do this for Christmas?” Minhyuk sneezes before saying, “We’ve never done that before.” You all agree that it would be fun. And Hyungwon suggests, “Maybe we roast marshmallows in the fireplace inside this time?” Hyunwoo continues, “And since it’ll probably be snowing, we’ll get frozen pizza to heat up here.” You suggest, “Hot cocoa?” Changkyun grins, “Hell yeah!” Kihyun says, “Maybe we can bake together?" Jooheon goes, “Maybe some of those delicious creature cookies." Everyone cheers before discussing possible dates before leaving for their respective homes.
You arrive home first while Hyungwon drops some people off before joining you back home. He comes in to see you lying down, eating the pizza you ordered for the two of you. He sighs, “It’s nice to come home to you.” You laugh as he joins you on the couch, and you tell him, “I’m home wherever you are.”

Trio ||| Minhyuk x Reader x Jooheon
Summary: Movie nights with your favourite bickering friends is always an event to behold. Everything is peaceful with your trio of giggles, and that’s the way it would stay. You were sure of it.  Genre: Fluff Warning(s): Oneshot that accidentally gained a plot that may now need a sequel but I’m busy so idk Word Count: 2831 Theme Song: Humph! - Pentagon AN: December 12 prompt, movie night. Credit as usual goes to @songi-writes I’m going to keep tagging I’m sorry I don’t want to be annoying but I feel like a thief otherwise I’m sorryyyy!! Do I call him Jooheon? Joohoney? I do not know ..... i love u bb joo i promise
~~~
The living room was filled to the brim with near-manic giggles that didn’t falter even as you entered the room. Confusedly tilting your body round the door frame, you caught a glimpse of the thick fluffy blanket on the sofa moving as if it had a life of its own.  The amalgamation of pastel blue fluff juddered as another roar of raucous laughter emanated from its depths, its sides flourishing and stretching at random while it snorted unceremoniously.
Quickly grabbing the snacks from the kitchen counter, you hurried into the fray, coming to a halt directly at the side of the beast.
Upon closer inspection, you could see the shapes rippling beneath the blanket reflected one person being held captive by the other, and, going by the sudden convulsions at one end, said captive was being tickled ferociously—leading him to kick wildly in response.
You didn’t even need to listen in to work out who was the perpetrator here, though deciphering who started it would perhaps be a trickier endeavour.
Dropping the snacks on the coffee table, you crouched down strategically, aiming to free the victim from his torture.  Tactfully, you leant in at an angle that allowed precision and accuracy, and low enough so to avoid any collateral.
And then, you struck.
Minhyuk took the jab below the ribs with glamorous dignity. And glamorous dignity meant shrieking like a fox.
The manoeuvre gave Jooheon a chance to escape, which he took gladly, knocking the blanket off his head and breathing a huge sigh of relief.
“It’s not over yet soldier!” you exclaimed, swooping in to protect him from recapture, catching Minhyuk’s arms as they swung round to grapple Jooheon back to his body. “Honey, get him!”
 “Oh!” Jooheon was startled, but immediately dug his fingers into his band mate’s sides. Cackling, Minhyuk tried to wriggle free, but found himself laughing too hard.
“G-guys! Sto-! P... h—yah!”
“We will never relent!” you declared, letting go of his wrists, deciding he was rendered practically immobile by that point, and joined in on the assault.
Bad move.
Instantly Minhyuk caught you instead, dragging you onto his chest and using his legs—albeit trapped in the end of the blankets—to push Jooheon down onto the two of you.
Yelping at the sneak attack, you were immediately trapped in Minhyuk’s grip, leaving him free to do whatever he wished, which in this case was unleashing an merciless attack upon your stomach. You were left barely able to breathe between laughter, your body shifting wildly with every jolt of giddiness, while Jooheon was left to collapse on your back, cheek squished against your shoulder as he scolded the perpetrator weakly.
Minhyuk laughed victoriously, his master plan of a cuddle pile coming together neatly, even though he couldn’t really breathe either.
Suddenly though, there was a high-toned thud that made you all freeze.
“What was that?” Jooheon asked groggily.
You grimaced. “The remote, I think.”
The two turned simultaneously to glare disapprovingly at Minhyuk as you groaned, it no doubt being a consequence of his kicking legs.
“Hey!” he whined, “I didn’t know it was there! Also you were tickling—! You can’t blame me entirely!
Clambering off the sofa, you left him to pick up the blanket as you joined Jooheon in searching for the lost remote.
He had his head hanging down the gap between the sofa, end-table and armchair, attempting to spot the black remote in the shadow there. You rolled your eyes at the slight lack of common sense, leaning over to turn on the lamp on the table.
The click and sudden ability to see made him jump slightly, but he swung himself a little further down nonetheless. “I can’t see it here!” he called.
You huffed, scowling exaggeratedly at Minhyuk who reciprocated with an even more hyperbolic pout, before laying your hand on Jooheon’s back, indicating for him to stand up.
You felt his body stiffen slightly at your touch, head reappearing to make eye contact with you, bemused.
“I hope it’s not under the chairs,” you remarked, crouching down onto the carpet, “otherwise Minnie’s in big trouble!”
You heard Jooheon laugh at him and say a teasing comment that you couldn’t quite make out as you pressed your head onto the floor, your phone flashlight on.  Your shoulders slumped as you spotted the remote nearly in the very centre of the space below the armchair.
“Found it,” you sighed, obviously disgruntled, “it’s under there but it’s too far for me to reach and,” you got to your feet, brushing your hands on your shirt, “like hell I’m sticking my hand under there.”
“Why not?” Minhyuk asked, tugging Jooheon’s ear until you pursed your lips at him, to which he smiled, wide and bright, and let him go. “You... scared?”
You protested his accusation. “Uh?! Hyuk? Are you not scared of the under-space? That’s the place where demons live, I’ll have you know.”
He scoffed, passing Jooheon and patting you on the head. “Well, I’m not scared, I’ll get the remote.”
“Yeah, and because it’s your fault it went missing in the first place, remember! You are totally doing the washing up today.” You chuckled at the huff you heard from the floor.
The other man just laughed. “There’s no such thing as demons, Y/N.”
You looked him dead in the eye, slightly taken aback by how beautiful his eyes were. Fashioned of a gemstone in normal situations, in the lamplight they had become the glittered pools of two galaxies. “Can you be sure?.”
As you perched on the edge of the sofa, you could barely stop the giggle from arising from your throat as you heard Jooheon check with Minhyuk that demons didn’t exist, the laughter gradually dying in his voice.
And especially when the man on the floor just brightly replied, “If thinking that helps you sleep at night, sure!”
Jooheon looked back to you, a highly unnerved expression upon his features.  He looked so adorable when he was ever so slightly petrified.
“Oh, Honey, it’s ok they don’t exist, I promise,” you cooed, motioning for him to come and join you on the sofa. He obliged, soft lips set in a trembling pout, taking the space to your left and curling into your chest as soon as you opened your arms for a cuddle. You couldn’t resist squishing his cheek gently, reassuringly holding him close.
“And even if there was, Honey, we’d never let them hurt you,” Minhyuk added, before jumping up victoriously, remote in hand, “I got it!”
You nodded, playfully smushing both of Jooheon’s cheeks so his lips were pursed. “Besides, most demons are nice anyways. They just get a bad rep.”
Minhyuk sent you a quizzical look, but you pointed to the TV, silently asking him to load up the film. “We’ve procrastinated long enough, I think.”
He put his hands on his hips. “The things you make me do, Y/N.”
You pulled an indignant face at him, which he mimicked right back, before turning to the set, opening the box and placing the disk in the tray.
Once it was done, he returned to the sofa, retrieving the blanket and arranged it so it covered you and Jooheon nicely, and then finally climbing under himself.
“Thank you~!” you sang, watching him shuffle and get comfortable, before inclining towards, but not quite against, your free shoulder. You wondered how long it would take for him to give in and sprawl across you, basically making you into a pillow for two tired dorks.
Not that you minded. They were so warm, and you like being crushed with affection, genuinely. The true remedy for touch-starvation. Besides, it was your choice of film, and though you were interested in it, it wasn’t one that the other two were that fussed about, so you’d foreseen this.
Taking the remote from Minhyuk as he shifted, you held it to Jooheon, for him to press the buttons. After all, though arguments over who got to use the remote was something you had not foreseen the first time, you weren’t about to let that happen again any time soon.
The film menu screen faded into black, and you felt Minhyuk’s arm snake around your waist.
50 minutes, you thought, 50 minutes will be how long it takes before they’re out like lights.
.
.
The film was as enriching as you expected, and you couldn’t help but mentally gush about just how on point the metaphors were, or how the colour schemes helped foreshadow the unfurling events—you realised as you went. And usually it took a lot to distract you from all movies. However, the two things that could distract you the most were situated on either side of you, and they were doing a brilliant job of it by somehow putting in as little effort as possible.
It hadn’t taken long at all for Minhyuk to give into resting his head on your shoulder. He’d started off by nuzzling his nose into your neck, deliberately trying to distract you so you would hold his hand. When you did as he wished, he decided he was happy with his head upon your shoulder, and so there he remained. Eventually, he untwined his fingers from yours in favour of holding you in his arms fully, and so you resorted to threading your fingers through his hair, very carefully easing out any knots you stumbled across.
That had been what sent him to sleep, you reasoned, with his arms clutching you like a teddy bear. Very occasionally he hummed in his sleep, tiny whines or murmurings of something barely understandable. One time you thought he’d uttered the word ‘love’ but it was hard to tell, with his mumbling coinciding with a swell in the music of the film.
It remained though that you’d no doubt overestimated his willpower by a good 40 minutes. He hadn’t opened a single packet of snacks, nor asked what was going on. It amused you how quick they were to lull into the arms of sleep when warm and coddled. It made you feel good, that they felt secure in your arms enough to drift off whenever.
Meanwhile, it was Jooheon that had proved to be much stronger, willing his heavy eyelids not to droop too low and lull him into a sleep. He was sullenly watching the film, somewhat transfixed by its motions and colours, rather than the messages and dialogue, but he’d stayed awake for a while, even if he hadn’t gotten anywhere near the 50 minute mark.
“Hey Honey, you doing ok?” you whispered, smoothing his shirt sleeve beneath he blanket.
He nodded once, lacking the energy or the desire to do anymore than that. He was perfectly comfortable where he was, not wanting to move a millimetre if it meant causing even the slightest bit of discomfort.
“You want any snacks?” you enquired, receiving the tiniest shake of his head. It wasn’t like you could reach them anyway.
You rubbed his back, feeling him press closer into you, if that were even possible. “It’s ok, Honey, you can go to sleep. Heaven knows you need it after the week you’ve had.”
It was if you’d whispered the final command of a hypnotist, as right after the words left your lips, he let his eyes close, nestling his hands to grip your shirt rather than the blanket loosely, and gave into sleep.
You felt your heart lurch as you felt Jooheon’s breath steady. Glancing across carefully at Minhyuk and admiring how the light of the TV arched across the bridge of his nose, you found no respite as your breath hitched in your throat.
You’d never questioned what you had. You were eternally grateful to have it. You had two people who cared for you so deeply that they immediately travelled to your door from the other side of the city, when all you did was mention that you were a little gloomy that evening. You of course would have done the exact same. But what was it all?
You didn’t let the voices owned by all those unsettled and interrogatory faces into your thoughts that often, because what use was it? But even your obstinate tendencies couldn’t deny that they all did see something, that they all then latched onto like limpets. Constantly asking if one of them was your boyfriend. Acting overtly surprised when you shook your head vividly and asserted ‘no’.  Questioning if you were leading both of them on. And then never letting the idea drop no matter how many times you saw them, no matter how many times you requested them to.
It was none of their damn business, you were close as friends, a peaceful trio uncomplicated by labels. Friends could be close and touchy and clingy if they wanted to, and you told them that, square to their faces. Only to find them laugh at you strangely.
That laugh, you’d witnessed in other scenarios, was the one that people always used when they knew something the others didn’t. The laugh people heard when they asked about their favourite character to an older fan, which never indicated their safety. The laugh people uttered under their breath when the movie was paused and they knew something bad was going to happen to one of the characters.
Dramatic irony.
But you weren’t in love with them, either of them, neither Minhyuk nor Jooheon. No. Well, at least not in that way. At least, you thought.
A particularly loud mumble brought you out of your thoughts, as Minhyuk shifted his weight on your shoulder.
“Min?” No response.
You exhaled in a quiet chuckle. From his new position, you could see even less of his face, his lips instead pressed against your neck, his breath tickling your skin. His grip was tight at your side, as if he was afraid you’d leave.
You moved your hand from his hair, and placed it at his waist, caressing the sliver of bare skin you found uncovered there absentmindedly.
Your thoughts swirled, urging you to pull him closer—both of them closer. Even though they were both practically on top of you, you wanted them closer.
What did that even mean...?
You shook your head, taking a glimpse down at Jooheon, fast asleep. A mistake, as you suddenly felt that rise in your soul again. It wasn’t a new feeling, but you’d never felt it this strong before. You’d always written it off as a protective, almost nurturing feeling.
You forced your eyes to focus upon the film again, but you’d lost track of what was going on. The colours blurred and merely danced in front of you.
You wanted to...
No. That was completely, utterly, wholeheartedly a bad idea.
No matter how inviting the idea was, no matter how close they were.
You were just sappy because it was dark out and you were tired and because they’d been so sweet and funny and endearing.
But it was too late.
With your conscious miles behind, your body seemed to behave by itself.  It was as if you watched yourself in third person. You supported Minhyuk’s head with a hand, as you leant down and placed a kiss onto Jooheon’s hair. Returning, you did the same for Minhyuk, brushing some loose strands back into place.
You sat up straight again, eyes naturally returning to the screen, and for a solid five seconds there was utter tranquil. No disturbance of a thought, no incessance of a noise.
And then your consciousness slammed back into your head as you realised what you’d done.  What had you just done?
.
.
Panicking, with your chest heaving, you sought an escape route.
As smoothly as you could, you slipped out between the two of them. Making sure their heads were supported and their bodies covered with the blanket, you praised all the gods evidently watching over you at that moment that they didn’t wake up. Then, you snuck out of the room, into the bathroom, locking the door behind you. Sitting on the cool floor, focusing on your breath that was ringing in your ears, you interrogated yourself.
What did you do? Why did you do it? What were you going to do about it?
What you did not know was that they didn’t have a clue either.
When they decided to pretend to be asleep, they had expected to pull a ghost prank on you seamlessly. It would end in you screaming, chasing them around the place, and finally more cuddles when the film was over. They’d checked the bed earlier that day, it was certainly big enough for all three, despite what you’d said!
But now they were stuck, eyes flickering over each other’s faces, on opposite sides of the sofa.
“She kissed you?” Jooheon whispered first.
“Yes!” Minhyuk replied. “You too?”
“On the head, yes!”
“Same!”
Maybe things had just gotten a whole lot more complicated for the three of you.
"You look happier..."
"I just want to be happier-"
"Don't be happier."
Summary: Yoongi finds himself looking for his happiness and freedom in another woman, leaving you behind with a broken heart and fading memories. But the moment he realizes that he was happier with you, might just be a moment too late. Alternatively, Yoongi cheats on you but struggles to let you go when he sees that you're happier without him.
Note: Italicized passages and segments either represent situations taking place in the past or alternatively, at the same time in a different place.
I just wanna be happier; Melt me, I'm cold I've reached out my hand countless times The echo is colorless Oh, this ground feels so heavier I am singing by myself I just wanna be happier Am I being too greedy?
Warm hands.
Something that you had never felt against your skin for the longest time, comforted you.
Not in a way you thought you wanted, but in a way you needed.
The heat of his touch against the bare skin of your back shielded you, guided you further against his own body.
Healing you.
Speaking to you with wordless movements and telling you that it’s okay.
You’re alright now.
Smooth skin that wiped away your tears and pulled your face into a safe haven that you had finally found for yourself. A place that you never wanted to leave.
A place that promised never to leave.
His skin was warm against yours, radiating love and comfort when he held your hands within his, telling you that you were no longer lost.
He had found you.
And he doesn’t want to lose you.
Thoughtful arms that protected your trembling frame and scaring away every fear that had been feasting on you. Warming you up with love. Telling you that it’s okay, you don’t need to fear the cold anymore.
He would heal you.
He would comfort you.
He would make you happy, again.
“I can’t— I can’t brea-”
“Shh…” his voice comforted you, gentle and soft, not wanting to let it overlap your own words but still wanting to be present.
“You can.”
“I- I need him; I need him back!”
The man never winced at the scream that came from you, pulling you by your shoulders further against his chest. Consistent pats to your back, smoothening out your damp hair, and using the sleeve of his sweatshirt to wipe at your clammy skin, he stayed with you. Right there on the bathroom floor.
“Can you get me my Yoongi? I need him to hold me, I need him to tell me that this was all a dream! Please!”
So he held you instead. His touch told you that this wasn’t a dream, but rather the bittersweet relief of being woken up from a nightmare. The end of a conflict that made you want to suffer a little more just to see how it ends but knowing that you didn’t need to always have control that way. Warm lips to your forehead, he tugged you further into the warmth of his embrace.
“You’re not alone anymore.”
“Yoongi…” your jaw clenched with each sob, too broken and too weak to take this pain anymore. Fingers clutching the material of his sweatshirt, pulling it closer to your mouth that continued to spill out hopeless murmurs of the name that you had once engraved onto the tablet of your heart. A name that was being burnt away like a cover over a tattoo that you didn’t want anymore.
“I’m here.”
Eyes that were brimming with sorrow glanced at the bottle of pills that lay against the tiled flooring.
He had reached you in time. He had saved you in time.
He would never let go of that hope that your body clung to in him.
He was the flicker of hope that your soul never let burn out.
He would never let that burn out.
And so he held your face like one man once had, letting his own body comfort you and for once, just distract you from the blinding pain that never stopped drying up the life out of you.
Lips that moved tenderly against your own trembling ones, arms that picked you up and carried you back to the sacred space of your bed, thumbs that never ceased to wipe away the tears that dripped down your temples, he comforted you.
Skin to skin and your hands held in his, he let you pull him closer. He let you weep and he let you fall back against the sheets because this time, he was there to catch you.
He worshipped hidden spots of skin and showered every inch of you with love that he knew you deserved. He tugged you higher up against his own bare chest and let you feel him with everything that had once held you back.
He loved you, that night.
He loved you, the day after that.
He loved you, the week after that.
He gave you love.
Even if he never expected you to give that back, he loved you like there was nothing else he was brought into this world to do.
And just like that, he healed you.
~
I just wanna be happier
It took three good months for Suga of BTS to heal from a relapsed shoulder injury that was caused during a performance. A performance he had never been to and a casualty that never took place. But this little lie had done Yoongi good, giving him time and a much-needed break away from the world of music and the hyped life that he was called to live.
It didn’t even take Yoongi a day to settle back into the humble house in his hometown, Daegu. His mother cared for him. Too much to hold his sins against him. So she welcomed her son back home with open arms and a meal that brought tears to Yoongi’s eyes. He ate until he couldn’t anymore and he cried until he had no more tears left to shed.
His mother had nursed him back to good health, even if he had to just sit and heal for three months straight. She kept repeating the same thing to him each time she oiled his hair and fed him chicken broth every morning.
“Give your body the time it needs to heal.”
And Yoongi had been sick. For the longest time.
His health began to deteriorate drastically after the woman that walked out of his life had given him a taste of his own poison. He was never one to be a hypochondriac, but the weird aches in this head and the bright spots in the vision of his right eye began to concern him. His grip grew weak up until the point where even holding a pen to write had become a task.
He would pass out frequently too, making an excuse that he hadn’t eaten, but it wasn’t much of a lie, either. Yoongi had begun to live on foods that were unhealthy and that left him malnourished and leaning on alcohol as support that only proved to be a slow poison. It was as if his body had begun to give up on him, and that’s when he knew he had had enough.
His mother was someone who could give him back the life he had abused.
She never spoke a word about anything that could poke at his sensitive past. She was kind and understanding and had nothing but love to offer to her son who sought help in her. She began to take walks along the beach every morning with her hands wrapped around his arm, telling him to walk barefoot and feel every bit of the touch of nature that he could at that moment.
She made it a point to fix Yoongi’s sleep schedules, scolding him and sitting by his side until he had completed a full 8-hour sleep. Regularly, she fed him nourishing meals and fruits and herbs that she used to brew her teas with, slapping away his hand that would reach for the little bottle of coffee in her kitchen.
It was torture, but that healed Yoongi.
It gave him back the strength that he had lost and somehow he bonded even more with his dog that would never leave his side.
One thing she made Yoongi understand was that even though he had made a horrible mistake in the past, he too had the right to be happy.
She showed him that blaming himself and believing that he didn’t deserve to be happy had been the very reason that opened the doors of wrath upon his head.
And the most evident of them all, the words that kept Yoongi up at night even with his eyes closed because his mother was watching over him like a hawk, the words that helped drive him further towards a healthier lifestyle as fast as he could, essentially gave him back his hope.
“You need to be strong to win her back.”
And so, Yoongi smiled a little, breathing in the fresh air and listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks for the last time, shoulders broader and stomach sticking out a little but feeling fitter than ever, Yoongi bid farewell to his hometown.
A car had been sent for him, and he had been grateful for that too. His mother had taught him how to value the little things in life. And this was a moral he was going to put into practice even when he returned to his apartment back in Seoul.
Walking up to the car that he could see in the distance, a figure that stood beside it had made him stop in his tracks. Covered in black from head to toe, Yoongi felt his throat constrict, fingers curling tighter around the handle of his bag.
There was just no way, he thought, gulping when the figure began to walk towards him.
Eyes that filled with tears met with another pair that mirrored his expression, tongue darting out to swipe against his lower lip. The sky was darkening, clouds covering the expanse of the heavens and adding to the beauty of the cold breeze that made Yoongi sniffle. But nothing could compare to the full-lipped smile that he had not seen for even longer than he could remember.
“Hyung-nim.”
The bag dropped from Yoongi’s hands when a pair of arms circled around his shoulders, pain-filled cries making Yoongi’s heart clench, enveloping the younger into a warm embrace.
“Jimin-ah.”
“Can I tell you how much I hate you?” Jimin blubbered into Yoongi’s shoulder, fingers grasping at his coat desperately.
“Don’t hate me,” Yoongi uttered in a broken whisper.
“I hate you so much.”
His face scrunched up, unable to hold it in anymore. Hot tears rolled down the pale skin of his cheeks, his chest and shoulders shuddering with each sob that he could no longer control.
“I know you do.”
“Why—” Jimin sniffled, pulling away and wiping at his bright pink nose. “Why did you fall sick? Didn’t we all tell you that that wasn’t an option? Do you really not care for us?”
“Jimin-ah…”
“I told you at the beginning of the year that I would punch you if you fell sick, and that’s exactly what you did. Should I punch you?” Jimin held up a weak fist.
“Is this how you treat your hyung?” Yoongi teased him with a little laugh.
“Is this how you treat your younger brother?” Jimin retorted, frowning deeply at the man he had missed terribly.
Yoongi looked down at his shoes with a nod of regret.
“I’m sorry, Jimin-ah.”
“This is the longest time I’ve gone without seeing you in the past 10 years. Did you really have to take three months off? Why did you never call us? Why did you never call me?”
“I know you hated me, Jimin-ah.”
“I was angry, hyung. I was angry. But you fell sick and you visited so many doctors and not once did you care to tell us that it was so serious? Why did we have to find out from your mum after you came back here?”
Yoongi sighed.
“I didn’t think I deserved to ask you guys to help me.”
“Hyung,” Jimin frowned. “We’re family, too.”
“I let you all down, though.”
“We kind of let you down too. Especially me. I’m sorry I couldn’t be there for you when you needed us the most, hyung.”
Yoongi smiled gently. “Don’t be. I’m fine now.”
Yoongi embraced his dongsaeng once again, this time wrapping his arms around Jimin’s shoulders. Soft, consistent pats comforted Jimin, fingers to his coat and chin over his shoulder. Sniffling in sync, both the brothers eventually pulled away with an awkward laugh. Jimin volunteered to carry Yoongi’s bag.
“I didn’t think you’d come to pick me up.”
“It’s only obvious that I missed you the most,” Jimin pouted, looking straight ahead after shoving one of his hands inside the pocket of his black coat. Yoongi laughed fondly at his words.
“I missed you too, Jimin-ah. I really did.”
“You’ve put on a lot of weight,” Jimin observed, squeezing Yoongi’s arm.
“Yeah, I’ve eaten enough for a year.”
“I’ve been asked to ensure you keep eating that way.”
Yoongi turned to look at him. “By whom?”
“A fairy godmother,” Jimin smirked.
“Hmm… I like your hair,” Yoongi suddenly complimented him.
“It’s much longer now, isn’t it?”
“Mhm.”
-
The streets of Seoul caused a burst of adrenaline to rush through Yoongi’s body, hands fidgeting in his lap and eyes trailing over the passing buildings and cars that he had not seen for the past three months. He had missed out on so much, and one of the things he was most excited about was to finally meet the rest of his band members again. He had missed them so much that in the secrecy of his little room back in Daegu, Yoongi had managed to write three songs about them.
“We heard about…uh…” Jimin trailed off, lips rolling into a straight line. “The baby.”
Yoongi kept a straight face, nodding and looking out the window. “Okay.”
“I’m sorry about that.”
“There was not much I could do about it, I’d rather not bring that up right now.”
Jimin acknowledged his reply, but a little thought nudged at him from the inside.
“Hyung, can I ask you something?”
Yoongi nodded.
“Do you miss (Y/n)?”
Eyes widening in surprise, his heart suddenly began to race at the mention of your name, blinking rapidly and noticing how the buildings that he was focusing on had now become a grey blur.
“Why do you ask?”
“We miss her a lot,” Jimin admitted quietly. “We tried to contact her.”
Yoongi looked towards Jimin. “Did she answer?”
“She replied to Namjoon hyung’s message. But that was it. Nothing more. It’s been over four months now.”
“You tried to contact her when I was here?” Yoongi briefly pointed out towards the streets of Seoul.
“Yeah, it was around the time when everyone noticed you were falling ill, and your mother asked us to call her.”
“My mother?” Yoongi’s eyes widened. “She never told me that.”
“She didn’t want you to know. She believed that only (Y/n) could fix you. I’m pretty sure she still believes that.”
Yoongi gulped.
“What did Namjoon ask in the message?”
“He asked her if she was doing alright and if we all could meet, without you – of course. But she said that she was no longer in Korea.”
“Did she say when she would be back?”
Jimin nodded. “She said in a few months.”
“It’s been a few months.”
“Exactly.”
A tense silence took over the car, faint honks and the frequent ticks of the indicators accompanying them, both men falling deep into the well of their own thoughts. Jimin couldn’t help but wonder if Yoongi could ever be the same hyung that he once knew just a year ago. Even though in his eyes, Yoongi had been a person who preferred to stay silent and enjoyed being in his own little bubble most of the time, there was a difference in the man who was sitting beside Jimin in the car that evening.
The old Yoongi and the new Yoongi walked in parallel lines, along the same path with the same destiny, but they could never think of crossing even once. A barrier that had injured his ability to be the same person that he was, a pain that always pulled him back.
And even though Yoongi felt much better than he did a few months ago, there was a grey cloud that sat tight over his head, following him like an evident shadow and threatening to burst at any moment. There was a time back in Daegu when this little cloud had almost become his comfort. A pleasant scent to his nose and a hand of assurance over his shoulder, telling him that this guilt would never leave his side. It would walk with him until the day he takes his last breath and would even hint at a possibility to be a loving company in his next life if he ever has one.
The guilt would love being with him and cherishing him and reminding him of all the beautiful things he has done in life, drawing him a beautiful portrait of the night he left you weeping on the floor so that he could hang it up on the walls of his heart. The guilt that had fallen asleep for a while but now vowed to be alert and show up in times he least needed it, because of course, it had become his best friend now.
That…was evident. It was so obvious that it made Jimin’s chest burn with worry, a little sapling of hope that had begun to grow within his soul, a hope that his hyung would finally grow a pair and smack himself in the head just to realize that he needed you, a hope that shied away at the intensity of the scorching heat of the sun that threatened to burn it away, a hope that began to sway wildly at the force of the winds that came with the rain that threatened to wash it away.
A hope that he wanted to hold onto.
So with a warm hand against Yoongi’s shoulder, Jimin spoke with an unknown confidence.
“Can you win (Y/n) back?”
~
Cause baby, you look happier, you do I knew one day you'd fall for someone new
The end of a tiring day.
Yoongi had faced it worse than the others after the leisurely break time that he had spent his precious three months on.
Yoongi was a man who worked.
Day in and day out until his body could no longer stay upright. A man who admired others who worked and had never in a million years imagined that a gap of three months could be so difficult to cope with.
The boys had been a massive support, Yoongi noted in his diary. A little brown book that his mother asked him to fill in things that made him feel grateful. The boys had welcomed him back with open arms just like his mother had and also made sure to feed him good food and take him out whenever possible.
Jungkook made sure Yoongi tagged along when the muscular pigs made their little trips down to the gym every other evening. Jin dragged Yoongi to some water body he found on the way to the other side of town, for fishing. Not that they caught any, but it’s the thought that counts. Taehyung and Jimin made a mess in the kitchen while Hoseok and Yoongi sat comfortably on the couch with a recipe for some north-eastern dish that he couldn’t even pronounce the name of, yelling instructions across the hall and wincing at Hoseok’s banshee-like screams of laughter when Taehyung brought back a pan of burnt fish that he completely forgot about.
They had their ways of showing Yoongi that they were there for him, with him, and that brought the fondest smile to Yoongi’s face as his pen scribbled across the paper. Yoongi loved such days, the setting sun hidden behind a cloud cover of rain-filled cotton candy, shining courageously through its descent until a beautiful pink and orange hue enveloped the surrounding with a tinge of romance and light-hearted happiness.
He had made this a habit – something that he had been doing a lot recently – sitting in solitude with a book and pen, one leg crossed over the other, and a little hat that covered just enough of his face to maintain a discreet disguise.
Yoongi wrote.
He wrote about all things happy and all things sad and sometimes used fancy poetry to describe such sunsets, a trait that he picked up from a book Namjoon had recommended. He would write about the little grandma who looked like a stout teapot that walked her dog along the footpath beside the river, he would sometimes attempt to sketch out the faces of a happy-looking couple that he had seen walking hand in hand, and sometimes he wrote about the river itself.
River Han.
Namhangang, the word that literally translates to South Han River, was something that interested Yoongi quite a bit.
Nam-Han, the word that was formed by two coincidental yet incredibly opposing names, Namhan and Bukhan, meaning South Korea and North Korea respectively. The native Korean suffix –han, in this context meant ‘great’, ‘large’, and ‘wide’, but it also meant ‘One’ in the Korean Number System. Of much importance to Korean History, River Han is popularly recognized for its strategic significance as the main canal connecting the peninsula’s central western region to the Yellow Sea and its fertile alluvial banks.
Not that he ever remembered these facts from a geography class back in his school days, no. He was too busy sleeping to even pay attention to anything as such back then. He had looked these up on the internet, wanting to be as well versed with everything that had to do with his country as possible. So while noting them down, Yoongi began to draw lines of similarity to the water body that he would sit in front of every other evening.
A name formed by two opposing characters. South and North Korea.
That’s pretty much how it had been with you and him. Coincidental, yet it made perfect sense. The world could write a book on how different you both were, as simple individuals. You were a particularly social person, whereas he struggled to maintain eye contact with people he worked with. You were quite loud and carefree, whereas Yoongi preferred to stay reserved and within his own little bubble. You loved being active, roaming around, and planning various date ideas and vacations, whereas Yoongi simply loved to either watch a movie in a theatre or stay at home in the comfort of his bed. You both would occasionally argue and fight like cats and dogs, but that added to the beautiful essence of your relationship.
Great, Large, and Wide.
Three words that described the love you had for him. There was nothing quite like it, it was home. You were home. You cared for him like any mother would, you took care of his schedules and never failed to make him see how important he was, not just to you, but to everyone else around him. You fed him and smiled with him and made his burdens lighter. You loved him like he had never been loved before and there was nothing that could compare to the amount of love that you had for him. He wanted – no – he hoped, that just like the river that flowed down at its own leisurely pace but never once stopping, your love for him would still remain. That your love for him had somehow not run dry but was still patiently waiting for his return. Selfish, yes. But he couldn’t help but want that.
One.
A word that has little numerical significance but has much more than a valuable meaning. Cutting to the chase, you were the one for him. You were the one he once loved and you were the one who he kicked. And still, you were the one he was writing about. You were the one who put him first and you were the one who deserved to be put first. You were the one he now wanted back and it made his lips tremble because it was just too hard to deal with the guilt of losing the one person who was perfect for him.
And yet, you were the one who made his heart rate quicken significantly, because all of a sudden Yoongi forgot how to breath and how to function and not fall to the floor in panic and just break down then and there.
You were the one he was looking at and nothing at that point in time made sense to him anymore.
You, the person he should have always put first, were within sight of his spot on the little bench that he was sitting on.
You were there.
And you weren’t alone.
Yoongi almost collapsed at the sight of you, his parched mouth drinking up the sight of you completely. You looked…different.
A good different.
With shorter hair that reached just below your shoulders, a little hairpin held up the sides of your fringe to the top of your head. He couldn’t make out what it was, maybe a sunflower clip, or something yellow. You looked radiant, eyes light and bright, crinkling at the corners when a gorgeous smile took over your face.
Breath-taking, he thought, literally, because he still hadn’t noticed that he was no longer actively breathing. You had a pretty dress on, white, the color that made you look like an angel, with cute frills around the front and the arms.
Arms that were linked with a man that looked all too familiar.
From a distance, Yoongi’s deprived ears picked up on the sound of your laugh, a sound that made him feel lightheaded, a sound that reminded him of rushing waters and open flower fields and everything that was good and kind. It tugged at his heart, painfully, noticing the way the man beside you had spoken something before he was blessed with the wonderful sound of your laughter.
Another man had made you laugh, Yoongi noted.
A man that he should have been, but failed to be.
A man that took his place and gave you the happiness that you deserved.
A man that put you first.
“I found it!”
Yoongi’s eyes widened, turning around abruptly and rushing to take the hard disk out of Minhyuk’s hand. A series of relieved sighs filled the room, Jungkook and Woozi rushing to physically look at the item all of them had been in search of for the past ten minutes.
“Thank god.”
“You should be careful,” Minhyuk nodded when Yoongi took the hard disk from him. “You almost lost something really important.”
Jin agreed from the corner. “Yoongi has so many songs on that.”
“You really need to keep track of your things.”
“I will.” Yoongi ran his hands over the black device, heart still racing at the thought of losing all of his hard work in one stretch.
“I’m glad we found it. It would’ve been terrible if someone else picked it up.”
“Yeah,” Kihyun nodded. “It’s one of us, so that’s a relief.”
“Where did you find it?” Yoongi asked.
“It was fallen behind the cushions on the couch. Must’ve slipped in there when you didn’t realize it.”
“Ah.”
“In that case, you should give Minhyuk a song as a ‘thank you’ gift for finding it for you,” Kihyun suggested with a smirk. Everyone laughed at that, immediately bursting into shouts and arguments as to who deserves to get a song from Yoongi first.
In the meanwhile, Minhyuk felt the need to scold Yoongi some more.
“You would have never noticed it if it wasn’t for the need to look for it. You only knew how much it meant to you once you lost it.”
Yoongi blinked up in confusion. “Yeah, thank you.”
“You shouldn’t thank me. It’s a good thing I found it before someone else did. Who knows, they could’ve taken advantage of it.”
“Yeah…” he trailed off, feeling slightly intimidated under the intense look on Minhyuk’s face.
“Don’t be so careless next time, Yoongi-ssi. Not everyone will be willing to return something they’ve found, especially if it’s valuable.”
“Okay, I get you. Don’t make me feel worse.”
“I’m telling you so that you feel worse.”
Yoongi raised his eyebrows when the man turned to walk away, feeling deeply offended by the tone that he was just spoken to with. Looking back down at the hard disk in his hand, he zipped open his bag and slipped it into the deepest section with a promise to never mishandle something that was of great meaning to him.
“What is wrong with that dude?” Yoongi grumbled to himself, walking away with a shake of his head. “He looked like he could eat me up in a second.”
And so he did.
Because all at once, every single word that Minhyuk spoke that day made sense to him.
This time, he had really lost something valuable to him, to someone who was much more capable of cherishing it. And there was nothing much he could do about it. Every word that Minhyuk told him that day fit perfectly to the situation.
“You only knew how much it meant to you once you lost it.”
“It’s a good thing I found it before someone else did. Who knows, they could’ve taken advantage of it.”
“Not everyone will be willing to return something they’ve found, especially if it’s valuable.”
“I’m telling you so that you feel worse.”
Minhyuk, of all people, found you.
And by the looks of it, you needed it much more than Yoongi thought you did.
You looked like something you had experienced with Yoongi in your life, but somehow, it was even more than before.
Yoongi had once made you happy.
But Minhyuk made you happier.
You both passed by with joyous laughs and fingers intertwined, arms swinging happily as the two of you walked further and further away from the place Yoongi was sitting at.
Looking down at the notebook on his lap, Yoongi laughed pathetically at the smudge of ink which appeared when a tear that he didn’t even know had fallen, covering the first word of the last sentence that he had written. Maybe that was his fate.
Maybe it was his punishment that he had longed for.
Maybe it was the bitter taste of the medicine that life had finally pushed into his mouth.
Because now there was no way he could take part in the oath he had noted down on the paper. He could never fill in that space.
He could never get back what he had lost.
And maybe, just maybe, this was for the best.
Because even though it broke him to the point that Yoongi bent forward right there on the bench and cried like he never had before, maybe this was for the best. His love for you that had returned powerfully suddenly felt weak and powerless under the sad truth that just walked past him.
Maybe he had failed.
Maybe he deserved this.
Maybe he needed this.
Because there was no way the heavens weren’t clear enough with the sign that was now evident on the paper of his notebook.
“Make (Y/n) happier.”
[Monsta X] My Funny Valentine
a/n: I’m a little late to the v-day party
Shownu
classic as they come: favourite flowers waiting for you in the passenger of his black bentley; city views from the 100th floor; tom ford suit and tie, heels and chanel rouge; hand firm on your waist; dinner by candlelight; plates of decadent desserts; boxes wrapped in thick paper and red satin bows; tucking your hair behind your ear to place the softest kiss on your cheekbone, a gentleman’s honour.
Wonho
clandestine cake club: the smell of burnt sugar filling the air; perfect bed hair; back hugs in the kitchen; kissing chocolate from your lips; flour on his brow; gold-rimmed glasses slipping down your nose as you stir thick cream; lips the flavour of raspberries, figs, and spices; sugar-coated clichés so sweet you wouldn’t ever mind if they’re with him.
Minhyuk
painter’s palette: wearing his white shirt; lips stained by a bottle of your favourite red; paint on your fingertips and smudges on your face; moonlight shining on your art; canvases filled with secret meanings only you two know; polaroids scattered on the coffee table; smiling into your kisses as you make a pretty mess on the living room floor.
Kihyun
songbird: a dimly lit studio; sat in the comfort of his hoodie scented by a dark amber cologne; divided by the thick glass of the recording booth; a song written just for you, his muse; a file stored away under the name ‘my valentine’; softly lit candles that smell just like him; you lock eyes with his that silently express – i adore you.
Hyungwon
rose garden daydream: warm winter sunlight; silk robes and lace shorts; roses adorn every space on your floor; soft rustlings in the kitchen; the sweetest breakfast on your balcony; strawberry kisses; long hair covering his sleepy eyes and sleepy smiles; fingers tangled together in the morning sun; your very own michelangelo, the centrepiece of your rose garden.
Jooheon
night arcade: pure laughter that can only arise from the deepest parts of your chests; neon lights blinking in the night; sharing a slushie from two straws, faces so close you’re almost kissing; winner’s tokens exchanged for heart-shaped lollipops; giant plushies you can barely fit your arms around; lips meeting behind the secrecy of the photobooth curtain, youth captured in four black and white pictures.
Changkyun
whiskey blues: deep purple velvet seats and low hanging lights; slow sips from crystal glasses; a live jazz band narrating your night; the bittersweet pairing of a macallan 18 with crème brulée on your tongue; hushed voices exchanging sweet nothings; margiela’s by the fireplace staining the air at your every move; a dark twinkling in his eyes as you exchange your darkest secrets.
Prompt: 10. A Holiday Dress Up Party
[A/n: It’s not mentioned but Hyungwon is wearing a flower costume.]
------
You call Hoseok up and ask if everyone is dressed up for the party, not wanting to be the only one in a silly costume. And he told you everyone was, but to reassure you he sent a photo of himself dressed in a comically large four-leaf clover with a green undershirt. You laugh and happily walk the rest of the way in your pink and white candy cane costume. You stay on the phone with him and ask, “Is there anyone I don’t know?” He hums, “Only one, I think? You don’t know him cause he’s been out painting murals in France? I don’t know where; you’ll have to ask him. But we’ve been friends since high school. And we talk about him all the time.” You nod, “Oh, am I finally going to meet Minhyuk? What’s he dressed up like?” He hums, “Yeah! I think a Champagne Bottle? I haven’t seen him in a while. I’ve been by the hors d'oeuvres for a while now.” You laugh, “Any good ones?” He quickly answers, “You’re gonna love the spinach feta croissant! If I don’t eat them all first!” You shake your head, “Good thing I’m approaching the door now.” He giggles, “Good thing!”
You ring the doorbell, and a red and green ornament, known as Hyunwoo, greets you. “Ah (Y/n). It’s good to see you.” You laugh, “It’s nice to see you too, Woo.” He smiles and lets you in, “How’s it looking?” “Good. Everyone managed to dress as a different holiday.” “Really?” He nods, “Yeah, I was surprised too!” You see a guy in a mask and immediately recognize, “Changkyun? Are you Guy Fox Day?” He groans, “I’m supposed to be anonymous.” You exchange a look with Hyunwoo before saying, “You’re doing a good job at it.”
You shake your head and find Hoseok eating a croissant, “(Y/n)!” You cheer, “Hoseok!” And Hyunwoo leaves you after grabbing a plate of different hors d'oeuvres, mainly tomato bruschetta. And Hoseok hands you a croissant, “How many did you eat?” “Um… many.” You chuckle before eating it yourself, and your eyes widen as you bite into it before quickly finishing it and eating another. You both finish up that plate with ease. A vampire, Kihyun, comes around and goes, “I had a feeling those would be gone first. It’s why I prepared seconds for the ‘rest’ of the guests to eat.” He emphasizes the ‘rest’ to you guys, making you both pout as you move away. His sharp canines glinting as you move away. You both mutter, “Meanie,” loud enough for him to hear, which causes him to scoff.
You both walk from it, and he goes, “When he leaves, I am stealing the plate until the pizza delivery comes.” You cackle, “Save me one.” He nods, “One.” You shake your head at him, and that’s when you spot the champagne bottle. “Is that him?” You ask softly, and he nods, “You want me to introduce you two?” You shrug, acting indifferent, even though the guy seemed quite handsome. “Minhyuk!” He looks up from his phone and smiles, “Hoseok! And who’s this?” He gestures to you, and you smile, “I’m (Y/n).” He puts his hand out to shake yours, “Minhyuk, it’s a pleasure to meet someone sweet like you.” He winks, and you laugh, “Are you just as bubbly as your costume?” You can hear Hoseok gulp as he makes his getaway. “Wouldn’t you like to find out?” You laugh, “I think we’re going to get along well.”
“I heard you were a painter?” He grins, “I paint murals.” You nod, “Is that why I haven’t met you before?” He nods, “I’ve been busy painting buildings all over Europe. But I’ve heard a lot about you from the guys.” You smile, “I’ve heard a lot about you too.” “All good things?” You think back, “I wouldn’t say that.” He cackles, “Good.”
He asks, “So, how did you meet them?” You grin, “I worked at the dinner on the corner near where Hoseok worked, and he brought Jooheon the first time they came in. And I slowly became each of their friends.” He smiles, “They’re a good bunch.” You grin happily thinking about all the times you’ve had with them, “Yeah.” You ask, “How did you meet them?” He smiles, “In art class, funnily enough. We each shared a class other than that one. And we became fast friends, but what sealed it was our shared lunch period. Which just led to major chaos.” You laugh, “Oh, I’ve heard you were the conspirator behind it all.” He grins, “Always.” You smile, and as he goes to ask you another question, you hear someone exclaim, “(Y/n)! (Y/n)!” You whip around from your conversation, “Yeah?!”
You turn to see Jooheon in a cupid outfit. You hold back your giggle, and he goes, “Pair with me, please?!” “For what?” That’s when you feel someone grab your hand and glance to see Minhyuk holding it, “She’s already taken, Joo.” He pouts, “I have no chance of winning, do I?” And you smirk, “Probably not.” He huffs before he shouts, “Hoseok! Hoseok!” You look back at Minhyuk and ask, “I’m taken?” He winks, “By me.” You can’t help but blush, and he asks, “Are you as good at games as they claim?” Your blush fades as you tell him, “I’d say so.” He smirks, “We'll make the perfect pair then.” That’s when you notice you’re still holding hands. You turn red all over again but don’t say anything or let go as you try to get a grip on reality. You just met the guy, and he’s best friends with your friends. What if he doesn’t actually like you? What if he is being super friendly, and it just sounds like he’s flirting? But then him winking after saying, ‘By me’ wouldn’t add up then.
You shake your head of those thoughts and squeeze his hand, and he leads you to the coffee table, which Kihyun is now standing on. “Alright! This year will be different because we have enough for perfect pairs.” You see everyone standing beside someone. “There will be no rule keeper or host this year. It’s cutthroat. The losing team will have to clean the whole house!” You eye Minhyuk, and his eyes glint with mischief. And you can’t help but grin. You were so winning this. “There will be five games! And the only real rule is if someone catches you and your teammate cheating more than once. You are both cleaning the house, instant elimination.” Your eyes widen, “I’ve never heard that rule before.” Minhyuk shrugs, “They won’t catch us.” You smirk, “I forgot I’m working with a pro.” He smirks, mirroring your expression, “We’ll win.” Kihyun goes over the games, “There will be Holiday Charades.” A few grumbles at that, and he continues, “Valentine’s basket toss,” “Pumpkin Stuffing,” “A true guessing game.” Hoseok and you immediately make an ‘ew’ sound, and you both laugh. “And my favorite, running the package!” You look over at Minhyuk, and he smiles, “That’ll be my favorite this year.” You tilt your head and ask, “What, why?” He smiles, “You’ll see.” You let go of his hand as you both help to arrange the living room better for the first game.
Hoseok claps his hands and goes, “Alright, charades!” “I’ll hold the poster until my team's turn, and… Candy Cane, you’ll hold it for us.” You look around for candy cane until you remember your costume, “Sounds fine, Clover.” You didn’t expect how good Hyungwon was at guessing what Changkyun was doing as he flew through them. Changkyun struggles a bit with guessing but does his best and finishes their papers. As Hyungwon high-fives Changkyun. He cheers, “Flower power!” You can hear Kihyun mutter, “Earth day kids…” Kihyun gets up, and Hyunwoo does pretty well, getting all but one. Kihyun does his best to guess what Hyunwoo is describing, so it takes him some time, but in the end, he gets them all with seconds to spare. You hold the sign and flip as fast as possible for Hoseok and Jooheon. But they weren’t going fast enough even though they were trying hard. They got all but two down before the timer ran out.
As you get up and see Hoseok’s sign, and make a tree, Minhyuk shouts, “Christmas tree!” Hoseok flips the page, and you do your best to make a pumpkin with your hands by making two different motions, and he goes, “Apple! No! Pumpkin! Halloween!” Surprising you with how good he was at charades, but you continue and complete it in no time. When he gets up, you nearly blank out. Even with a champagne costume on, he looks pretty. But you focus on the task and do your best to guess the different holidays by the odd shapes he makes. He points at Hoseok, and you laugh as you shout, “St. Patrick’s Day!” He grins, “Yeah, that’s right, baby!” You blush as he calls you that but continue guessing the different shapes he makes. Kihyun scolds, “No talking!” You shrug yet smile up at Minhyuk as he makes the last motion of a candy cane, “Candy Cane! Me! Christmas!” He high-fives you. While you guys weren’t as fast as Earth Day and Guy Fox, you still did your best as fast as you could. They won by five seconds, and you took it in stride. There are four more games left, anyway.
The pizza comes, and you all stop to have some before heading outside to start the next game. You do your best at Valentine’s toss, which is throwing red balls into deep pink bowls. You do your best to throw it into the bowl, but you’re not that good. You quickly find out. “We can’t be good in every game.” He pats your shoulder, and you pout as you shoot it in again. And it makes it in, he gasps, “Hell yeah!” He high-fives you, and you grin, and he makes a perfect shot. As you miss again, you ask, “Can we blame it on the size of the bowls?” He laughs, “Yeah, I can for you.” You grin, do your best, and make four out of ten. And that was good enough for you. Minhyuk only misses two, but you end up in last place, while Hoseok and Jooheon end up in first. You bow your head and feel him ruffle your hair, “Don’t worry about it. We’ll get them in the next games.” You look up at him, “Promise?” And he holds out his pinky, “Promise.”
You head back into the house, and Changkyun carries the guessing game out, “My mom made these. I didn't look, and she didn’t label them. So, I don't know which is which until I open this envelope. But she did say they are all food.” He lays them out on the kitchen island, and everyone takes a piece of paper. “Who’s brave enough to do it first?” You shrug, it's just food, “Nothing living, right?” He shrugs, “I hope not.” You sigh, part with your nerves, and act bravely, writing them down as you think of them. With seven foods to try, the only one that stumped you was the pasta and what shape it was. You nearly screamed as you reached your hand into the last one. You quickly took it out, “Oh gross.” You gulp as you put it back in to ensure you were right.
And write, “soft-boiled eggs”, you return to Minhyuk, and Hyungwon asks, “One teammate, or can we both go and discuss?” You all agree to the latter, and Hyungwon easily tackles it even if he yells at everything he touches. You show him your answers, and he nods, and you point to the third, “I’m not positive about this one.” “Okay, I’ll figure it out.” After Hyunwoo goes, you spot Minhyuk looking squeamish about it and put your hand on his shoulder, “I promise it’ll be okay. It’s just food.” He nods and braves it, making faces the whole time, and you can’t help but giggle.
Jooheon goes, “Alright, everyone, put your names on the paper, and then Kyun can read the answers.” Changkyun goes, “Broccoli, Cucumber, Linguine, Asparagus, Soft-boiled eggs, Watermelon, and Strawberries.” He opens each bowl, “And the order should be…” He looks at everyone’s cards after writing the correct order down, “Hyunwoo and Kihyun won!” You pout, and Minhyuk goes, “We only missed it by one.” You nod, having guessed fettuccine instead of linguine. Hyungwon sighs, “I truly thought that was spaghetti.” Changkyun shrugs, “I didn’t even know my mom bought linguine.” And Hoseok goes, “That’s what those stalks are called?!” “We were at a loss for it.”
Back in the living room, there are four pumpkin buckets. Jooheon announces, “Pumpkin game!” Kihyun goes, “Oh, and a little reminder! No food unless it’s packaged.” Minhyuk smirks, “I knew we’d be playing this game.” As everyone is running around finding things, he calmly leads you to an end table drawer. He tells you, “Paper clips and mini buttons.” Your smirk grows wide, “They said nothing about ‘em.” He nods, “Precisely.” You look over at the bucket and go, “We’re going to need something to dampen the sound.” You rush to the kitchen, grabbing two paper towels, before meeting him at the table. You put the towels in, and he starts dumping them in, which sounds like nothing compared to the chaos ensuing around the two of you. You hear Changkyun shout, “I swear I saw pipe cleaners here last year!” And another shouted, “I already grabbed them!” He stays by the bucket, guarding it, “On the bottom shelf under the sink, he has sos pads.” You nod, squeezing between Hoseok and Hyunwoo to get to the sink. You slide and grab the unopened box.
You rush back and squeeze them around the sides. “They hurt a little.” He agrees as he puts the last one in, and you say, “I bought him a few packs of the jack games as a joke last year. And I know he didn’t use it cause I spotted them,” you whisper, “Middle cabinet, top shelf, hard to miss, very colorful.” He nods, and you giggle as you watch him put his hands up to avoid getting hit by pens thrown to Jooheon. You scrunch your nose, upset that you didn’t think of pens. But you let it slide when he pulls out not only the jacks and bouncy balls but also two boxes of packets of tea that Kihyun clearly didn’t like to drink. He comes over, and you open the boxes while he stuffs the bouncy balls and jacks into the bucket. He gasps, “I got another idea.” He runs off before he can say anything. You quickly dump the tea bags inside and finish fitting the other things in.
“One minute left!” That’s when Minhyuk returns with a packet of cards, and you smirk as you both rush to line the cards along the side. You place the fifty-second card on top of the bucket as Hyungwon counts down, “Five… Four, Three, Two, One!” You both look at your competitions, seeing that they all have a menagerie of stuff coming out. “Alright! Everyone dump your buckets and count!” Hoseok proudly exclaims first, “Two hundred and fifty!” And you both keep calming counting: fifty sos pads, fifty-two cards, forty jacks, twenty tea bags, and four bouncy balls. Hyungwon exclaims happily, “Three hundred and fifteen!” Changkyun and him high-five. That’s not where the numbers were going to come from anyway.
It took forever to count all the buttons and paper clips, even organizing them into groups of ten. There were so many. You’re nearly out of buttons when Kihyun goes, “Five hundred and fourteen.” You gasp as you count the last few, and the rest watch as you do. Minhyuk whispers, “six, seven, eight.” You grin as he smirks at you, three hundred buttons and a hundred and fifty paper clips later. And two paper towels, you total to “Six hundred and eighteen!” Minhyuk shouts happily. And Kihyun gasps, “You planted those two items in my house!” Minhyuk shakes his head, “No, it was in your house before the party.” Kihyun gasps, “No! I would have remembered buying that.” Minhyuk goes, “I gave them to you when you were in college, but like the jacks and bouncy balls, you hid ‘em away.” You cross your arms over your chest and nod, even though you know he is lying through his teeth. As he told you, he put them there the last time he visited Kihyun.
You see the gears turning in Kihyun’s head, but he lets it go, letting you guys have one round of winning. Minhyuk already had a plan before you got outside, “Do you trust me?” You nod, and he goes, “I’m going to sling you over my shoulder just before the race. Are you okay with that?” You look him in the eyes, asking, “Is it the easiest?” He holds your eye contact and says, “I run fast, but the safest decision, considering our costumes, is to do it this way. You’re going to have to hold on tight, okay?” You smile, “Okay. I trust you.” He nods, “Now all you’ll have to do is to reach over and grab a present from the bucket out there, okay?” You look back, “We’re running to that?” He nods, “I’ll have both my hands free then, huh?” He agrees, and you smirk, “Oh, we have this in the bag.”
Hyungwon comes over, “Okay, I chose a short one-minute song. When it finishes, it’s go-time.” You all nod, and Minhyuk and you start internally counting. You watch Kihyun hop onto Hyunwoo’s back first. Jooheon wraps his arms around Hoseok’s neck, and Hoseok catches him in his arms. At forty-five, Changkyun grabs Hyungwon around the middle, and Hyungwon wraps himself around him as you whisper out fifty. Minhyuk goes, “Ready?” You nod, and right after you’re situated, holding onto the bottle's label with Minhyuk’s arm wrapped around your legs.
The song ends, and he starts sprinting. You gasp, not expecting his speed. He wasn’t kidding, and you all reached the bucket simultaneously. You let go of the label, having faith in Minhyuk, and grab a present. You put it against his back and feel him hold you tighter as he runs to the tape line. Looking back, you catch Hyungwon swatting at Kihyun to grab the present first. However, you see the steam engine speed once Jooheon has the present in between his chest and Hoseok’s leaf costume. You gasp, “Don’t look back, but we got company.” You nearly scream as you feel him throw you up a bit to readjust your position to run faster. He rasps, “Almost there!” When you hear Jooheon exclaim, “Throw me!” You gasp, “Please don’t throw me!” Minhyuk whispers, out of breath, “I wouldn’t dream of it.” And just as Jooheon is thrown to the tape. You cross the finish line just a hair faster than him.
As Hoseok collapses onto the ground near Jooheon, Minhyuk sets you down, “You, okay?” You nod, “I’m good.” He grins, “We won.” You mirror him, “We did!” You throw your present down, and as you happily jump up and down together, Hyunwoo’s and Changkyun’s team cross the line. Hyungwon groans and points his finger at Kihyun, “You fucker, we were going to win!” Kihyun gasps as he hops down from Hyunwoo, pointing at him, “Me!? What about you!” You whisper, “You know when you point fingers, three points back at you.” He snickers, “Sore losers.”
They continue, and Hoseok and Jooheon get up and wipe their jeans off before coming over, and they say in unison, “Good game?” You both nod, “Good game.” As the two losing teams duke it out over a game of cards, the four of you move into the hallway. “So, who’s going to tell them that the vampire and the ornament are the real losers?” They all shake their heads, and you look back at them, “Nah, let’s not ruin their fun.” You four tell them to have fun and not to kill each other. “Only if Hyungwon doesn’t tempt me any further.” You raise your eyebrows and gulp, “Yikes. Have fun with that! Don’t end up on the news!” Jooheon goes, “Want to ride with me, Hoseok?” Hoseok agrees quickly, and Minhyuk asks, “Do you have enough time to go out with me tonight?” You look at the clock to see it’s well past 2 am. “Where to?” He smiles, “To the park?” You nod, “I’d love to.”
He walks you there, “So what’s your favorite color?” You shake your head, “(F/c), you?” He smiles, “Red.” You ask, “What do you think of pets?” “I’m more of a dog person, but cats are nice too.” You smile, “Good.” He goes, “What’s your favorite genre?” You smile and tell him, and he says, “I like a lot, but ballads are my favorite to sing to.” “You sing?” He nods, “It’s not as strong as my painting, but I love doing it.” And he goes, “What about you?” You shrug, “Sometimes.”
You sit on the bench and ask, “Why did you like that game the best this year?” He smiles, “I got to hold you.” You blush and look down, “It was fun. I enjoyed you carrying me and winning.” You hum, thinking of the perfect question to ask him. When he says, “What if I told you I wanted to kiss you?” You look at him and signal to your candy cane costume, “In this?” He gestures to his champagne costume, “It wouldn’t be perfect, but it’d be our own.” You whisper as you lean closer, “You like to be unique, huh?” He grins, “Always.” And you whisper, “Kiss me.” And he does.
He walks you to your apartment, and you tell him, “What do you say to Mary’s at seven tomorrow night?” He grins, “I’ll be there.” He leaves you with one last kiss, and you couldn’t have had a better night dressed as a candy cane.
--- Bonus ---
Hoseok calls you up, “A little birdie told me you were dating?” You blink, “Did Min say something?” He gasps, “You’re calling him Min, now? Oh, yeah, you’re in deep. I didn’t think when you met him, you’d fall for him.” You laugh, “What did you think I’d do?” He says, “Honestly, I don’t know. But that was different. But I like it.” “Thanks.” He asks, “When’s your next date with him?” “Tonight.” “Two dates in a row? Oh, he really likes you.” You smile, “I hope so, 'cause I really like him.”
