#OCtober 2021 - Week 3: The Misfits
↳ Day 3: Blue and James
Today we have Blue (left) and James (right!)
Beatrice 'Blue' Blanchet is a 23 year old hairdresser and one of the few girls in the Misfit household.
James Regis, also known as Jamie, is a 24 year old punk who works as a tattooist and freelance artist.
LOTS more goodies under the cut!
Blue is tall for a girl, standing 5'10", and has a curvy figure. Her hair, formerly platinum blond, is dyed to be a pleasant blue that matches her eyes, and is her favorite color (hence her nickname). She has peachy skin and very long legs, which comes in handy for reaching tall shelves. She usually forgoes makeup aside from some light lip gloss, and keeps her hair in a ponytail at most times. She usually wears a gray 3/4-sleeve shirt with a blue tanktop underneath that peaks out, as well as dark blue-gray capris and sneakers. She has French and French-Canadian heritage.
James is a very tall man, towering at 6'8" in height not including his red mohawk. He has peachy skin and freckles, and gray eyes. His hair naturally a dirty blondish-brown as evidenced by his eyebrows and beard. He has a number of piercings on his face, with three on his left ear, two on his right, two on his right eyebrow, one on his nose, and one on his tongue. He typically wears heavy eyeliner as well. In physique James is considered one of the most impressive as his height is equally matched by his musculature, with a wide torso and rectangular bodyshape. He has tattoos on his arms and chest as well, with a sleeve of roses, clocks, and parchment paper on his right arm, a wrist tattoo of a rose on his left arm, a compass on his left shoulder, a minimalist band tattoo on his right mid-back, and a small wolf on his left pectoral, all of which he designed himself. He also often paints his nails black. He is most often seen with boots, jeans, a t-shirt, and a big jacket with studs and patches.
Blue is a snarky but kind girl who prioritizes hard work and cooperation above all, though this can sometimes means she takes criticism very hard and feels bad about it after. She also enjoys having fun, particularly dancing. She has no interest in a relationship right now and is prioritizing her career, much to the chagrin of her mom who wants to have some grandkids soon. That being said, Blue loves children and is a very motherly person. She despises 'edgy' humor and meanspirited behavior.
Despite his sometimes frightful appearance, James is a gentle giant with a love for kids, animals, and music. He is artistic and creative, seeing things from different perspectives when possible. He can play the drums and paint/draw, which lends itself to his job as a tattoo artist. He tries his best to be patient with people, and give them the benefit of the doubt. However, he can be short-tempered for topics that are dear to him, and can become overly passionate or competitive. He hates people who purposefully self-sabotage or who are given opportunities to improve themselves but choose not to, and particularly loathes when people restrict others' development in the process. He also just hates assholes.
Trivia:
Blue's real name is Beatrice Blanchet - she takes the nickname Blue from her favorite color and her dyed hair, which has been blue since she was 13.
Blue is dyslexic.
Blue loves her mother dearly, especially considering she gave up much of her dreams to raise Blue alone after her father walked out on them. She is deeply feminist as well.
Her favorite food is fettucine alfredo, and her favorite music is pop. However, she is tone deaf and despite thinking she sounds great, her friends are always ready to tell her she sounds horrible.
She was born the same year as Terry and Iggy, but she was born in January. She hates it though, since it always way too cold to do anything fun. Her dream birthday is to go to Hawaii.
She works as a hairdresser, and is a crowd favorite who is always booked solid. She also cuts and dyes the hair of the Misfits at home, and they always pay her despite her protests.
James' last name, Regis, happens to also be the name of an art school, which works out for James' artistic nature.
James is Tief's favorite name for a boy.
He is a Gemini.
James weighs 245lb of which most is muscle. He is capable of lifting up a car a few inches off the ground.
James is one of the tallest regular human OCs, but is notably not one of the heaviest.
James' favorite food is burgers and his favorite band is SOAD.
James has mostly recovered from his nervous tic but will continue to stutter if made anxious.
James uses Prozac (whereas Z uses Zoloft).

tagged by @thesixthstar to bold my aesthetic preferences, but the unfortunate reality is that my wardrobe is 90% skinny jeans, very short shorts and collared short sleeve shirts with press stud closures that I made from thrifted bed sheets, cropped jackets made from old woolen plaid blankets, sweaters knitted in my annual seasonal-depression funks every June, and very big rain coats that were originally worn by primary school teachers on crossing duty in the mid-late 90s. Unsurprisingly, those aesthetics are somewhat underrepresented here, which probably explains why my scores are so low, so I added another section at the bottom for my fellow sewing members of the hot-mess me-made crew. Open invitation for those types in particular to bold their aesthetic preferences.

OKAY HERE’S THE META ABOUT HIS VARIOUS LOOKS~!
so eros’s normal look (which spans the majority of his verses) is basically this
Tumblr media
facial hair? yes. hair styled up to appear slightly taller? yes. makeup is the whole works, including matte lipstick.   his wardrobe varies in colors, mainly lots of blues, reds, && purples. he’s big on accessories && has rings on every finger, stud earrings, bracelets, && a plethora of necklaces. jackets are a big yes for him, && his wardrobe spans at least two closets, organized fairly neatly. the only difference between various verses based around this look is that his high  school/college verse, he doesn’t have facial hair. he’s a clean-shaven bean.
eros in his nidavellir prince verse looks a bit different
Tumblr media
his hair is longer, he is clean shaven, less lavish jewelry (though he wears hand-crafted pieces he && his father make together), && minimalist makeup, consisting mainly of mascara && eyeshadows. his wardrobe consists of armor && robes, mainly in dark blues, browns, grays, && the occasional reds && purples. he keeps his hair down && loose the majority of the time, with only the bare minimum of it pulled back out of his face.
now....titan-son eros is similar to normal verses eros with a few notable differences
Tumblr media
clean shaven, hair styled similar to normal verse but not gelled up, more swooped into a loop that frames his face. generally, the tips are dyed purple or magenta, depending on his given mood. wardrobe is majority shades of black with a dark amethyst purple as an accent color. heavy eye makeup in dark shades, letting the purple of his eyes pop. lots of eyeliner. no jewelry besides one necklace && a few rings that help channel his powers && make them more dangerous. he also has an anklet that is linked to the infinity gauntlet as a means for th.anos to control him.

The Ultimate Jewelry Style Tips Worth Knowing
Jewellery is the staple of every woman’s wardrobe. It’s what defines your style. Your dress shapes your personality. So, don’t just dress for the sake of it. Instead, you always dress to impress. Let your beauty sparkle. Accessorize like a pro. Blend different shapes, colours, and textures. But how do you go about this? Well, here’s how to coordinate jewellery like a pro!
Create Layers
Experiment with different types of colours and textures. Create appealing layers with your bangles, rings, and necklaces. When layering necklaces, for instance, you may want to consider combining different lengths. This will go a long way in making you look stylish and sophisticated. Rings and bracelets can be mixed and matched in all sorts of attractive combinations.
You can even try wearing multiple earring styles. It’s super easy. All you need is to collect jewellery pieces of different sizes, textures, and designs. Then, try them on in various combinations to see what looks better.
Get Some Sparkly Earrings
When it comes to beauty, earrings are extremely useful. They play a significant role in emphasizing your looks. So, be sure to choose unique earrings that perfectly frame your face. Plus, they should complement your hair and skin tone.
Combine Different Metals
Don’t be afraid to mix different colours. You don’t necessarily have to stick with gold or sterling silver jewellery. You can as well try pendants that contrast with the colour of your chain. That would bring out a perfect look. When paired with metal colours and layered necklaces or bangles, pendant earrings can be outstandingly beautiful.
Determine the Focal Point
Where’s the focal point? Is it your eyes, your face, or your neck? Would you like people’s attention to be drawn to those areas? Well, go ahead and choose the best jewellery. Showcase your beauty in style.
If you’re wearing sparkly earrings, for instance, then opt for subtle, necklaces and rings. Or you can even do away with the necklace. All items shouldn’t be bold. Instead, you should know how to create a balance between them.
Expand Your Wardrobe
Do you have some free time? Well, you may want to spend this time trying different outfits with various pieces of jewellery. Try out as many combinations as you can. This can help you determine what works best. Don’t just focus on clothes and jewellery. You can as well add in other accessories like watches, scarves, as well as, bags.
You’ll actually be astonished at what you can come up with. If you don’t have many pieces of jewellery, consider purchasing a few extra pieces. Look for items that’ll extend and add interest to your wardrobe. Invest in sparkly things that’ll help you make a statement.
Break the Rules
Fashion trends greatly affect what people wear. However, it isn’t a good idea to keep the following fashion at the expense of your personal preference. You don’t have to become a fashion slave for you to stay stylish. If you do this, you might end up losing yourself. Plus, it can be extremely expensive.
Thus, it’s always important to try evolving your own style. Come up with something that suits your personality and makes you feel confident. Of course, that might not look fashionable right now but if you own it then you’ll definitely be fine.
Invest in jewellery that perfectly matches your colouring frame and overall sense of style. When trying to accessorize, be sure to take all these aspects into consideration. That’s the only way through which you can achieve your desires. Remember, your personality is a crucial part of your well-being. So, don’t compromise on it when choosing jewellery items to wear. Make sure that what you are wearing truly showcases your personality.
Try Wearing Your Rings with Panache
Stacking rings can be incredibly stylish. It can add so much versatility to your wardrobe. Plus, mix and matching them can significantly improve your looks. For a more minimalist look, you can consider stacking only two simple rings.
Depending on your preference, you can either match rings or mix different colours and textures. When wearing multiple rings, avoid putting on more than one ring on each hand. Simply wear an odd number of rings on each hand and you’ll be good to go. Remember, you can always break the rules. When it comes to beauty, everyone has their own style. And there’s an endless list of jewellery items you may want to accessorize with.
Choose Your Necklace Wisely
Make sure that your necklace or pendant is visible. Unless it’s a sentimental piece, you’ll want people to see your beautiful jewellery. So, be sure to match the necklace to your neckline. This will go a long way in enhancing your outfit.
If you’re wearing a V-necked outfit, for instance, then a pendant sitting above your cleavage can work wonders.  For a higher necked outfit, a long necklace would be incredibly beautiful. A rounded necklace is great with other rounded necklines.
At times, it’s good to go without a necklace. If you’re wearing a beautiful pair of earrings, for instance, then you shouldn’t necessarily put on a necklace. Depending on your outfit, you can either wear a necklace or not. If you’re wearing a high-necked outfit, don’t put on a necklace.
Don’t Always Wear Sentimental Jewelry
You don’t have to wear sentimental items regularly. It isn’t a must for you to wear your engagement ring every day. But if you must wear it daily, then consider layering it with other jewellery pieces. This will go a long way in adding interest and diversity to your style. For instance, you may want to get yourself a longer or an adjustable chain that hangs beneath your clothing if it doesn’t match the colour of your outfit.
You don’t always have to stick with the rules. Dressing up is a personal matter. So, you can always do it the way you want. Your style is your personal decision. It defines who you truly are. Settle for whatever fits you.
Try Different Shades
In the past, it was considered awkward to mix different metal colours. But with the current developments, that’s no longer the case. There’s no need to restrict yourself to sterling silver and gold jewellery.
Feel free to try out pendants featuring a different chain colour, or layered necklaces in different metals to create an elegant impression. When done right, this fashion trend can be highly impressive. So, why limit yourself to specific options when you can easily combine different metals? Let jewelers help you combine different metals today!
Match It Up With Your Clothing
Before you start dressing, think about your clothing. Once you’ve decided on the type of jewellery you’d like to wear, go ahead and choose matching clothing. Make sure that your clothes work perfectly with the jewellery, as well as other accessories. Doing this will ensure that you end up with the right combination that’ll make you look fashionable
Choose the Right Sizes
With the right jewellery, dull outfits can be transformed into something special. If you’re wearing a simple outfit, consider wearing timeless jewellery pieces. This will ensure that your simple outfit is brought to life.
However, if you’re wearing bold clothing, it’s often better to go with smaller jewellery pieces. The secret is to accessorize with both small and larger pieces of jewellery. Plus, you should always consider combining different shades, textures, and designs. This will go a long way in enhancing your beauty and making you look trendy.
Dress For The Occasion
Do you regularly type on the keyboard? If so, you should avoid wearing dangling wrist jewellery. And if you’re dressing for work, you should avoid wearing bangles and hanging bracelets. Before putting on your jewellery, you should carefully consider where you’re going. Think about what you’ll be doing, as well as, how your jewellery comes off to onlookers. There’s nothing disappointing like wearing the wrong type of jewellery for a given occasion.
Where do you want people’s attention to be drawn? Are you dressing up for a special event? Well, if you’re wearing something that’s intended to catch the eye, then it’s better to make the focal point on your neck, ears, or eyes.
If you’re wearing a pricey necklace, for instance, then opt for more subtle rings, as well as earrings. This will help you strike a perfect balance between the contrasting shades. And that’s exactly what you’re dying to achieve, right? You want to step out in style and let the world know that you’re the beauty queen.
Mix Busy Patterns With Simple Jewelry
When paired with ornate jewellery, busy patterns can be highly impressive. Instead of showy accessories, consider investing in solid bracelets, watches, as well as earrings.
Plus, you should also take into consideration the material of your outfit. If your wardrobe features heavily stitched fabric, ornate jewellery can be an excellent choice for you. Besides, wearing ornate jewellery will augment your boldness and enhance your overall appearance.
Highlight Your Face With Statement Rings
If you want to highlight your face, consider wearing a pair of statement earrings. Look for the flashy ones that enhance your facial appearance. When making your selection, be sure to consider the shape of your face and the colour of your eyes.
If you have a heart-shaped face, for instance, you may want to settle for drop earrings. And if your face is oval-shaped, you should consider studs or triangular earrings. It all starts with understanding the shape of your face. From there, choosing the perfect jewellery will be a walkover.
Be Mindful Of Your Skin Tone
Jewellery shouldn’t just match your outfit. If you want to stay trendy, consider highlighting your skin with jewellery. For you to win at accessorizing, you should know how to enhance the look of your skin. Silver is a beautiful metal that illuminates most natural tones. On the other hand, gold works well with darker skin tones.
Red, blue, and white gold gems blend well with cooler skin tones. For warmer skin tones, you can choose yellow, green, or orange gemstones.
Strike A Balance
Rubies and canary diamonds make a statement by themselves. Both of these colours are bold and fiery. They look great when paired with black and white. However, they can as well pair nicely with blue and purple. Most stylists derive their inspiration from the colour wheel.
According to the colour wheel, warm and cool colours blend one way. And on the other hand, they also blend well in the opposite. For instance, deep green and dark blue jewellery items pop against an orange dress.
Striking a perfect balance between cool and warm shades is basically what beauty is all about. Opposites attract. So, don’t limit yourself to matching options.
Go For Diamonds
Are you finding it hard to coordinate your jewellery with different outfits? If so, consider opting for diamonds. When exposed to light, the classic white diamond will elegantly show off all the shades that make up its composition. And this will make it easier for you to stay stylish. You can comfortably wear diamonds with any outfit.
Key Takeaway
Do you have an overflowing jewellery collection, but you don’t seem to be getting anything meaningful out of it? Then, think differently. Embrace creativity. It’s time you gather confidence and start trying different styles.
Go through your collection and identify missing items. And once you’ve done that shop around for those pieces of jewellery. Remember, fashion is all about being unique. Look for things that compliment your sense of style and personality.  Incorporating fashionable jewellery into your look is always an incredible idea.
The Bottom-Line
So, you have finally decided to take your beauty to the next level? You’re now ready to turn things around, right? Do you want to make the most out of your jewellery collection and still remain stylish? Well, it all starts with being confident. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Don’t be conservative. That way, you’ll be able to stay fashionable. The above guide offers practical tips to help you accessorize like a pro. Good luck!

Designer Todd Oldham & Fashion Nirvana
Blog entry by Julia Garrett, Texas Fashion Collection Intern
Stone-faced supermodels typically anchor proper runway shows. But for designer Todd Oldham (born 1961), things were just a little different. With the models beaming and twirling down the runway and the digital prints and crochet textiles they wore so well, Oldham’s kitsch-embracing styles sent hearts swooning from Los Angeles to New York City during his fashion house’s heyday. Todd Oldham Studios produced colorful, vibrant, innovative collections from 1989 to 1998.
Tumblr media
Spring 1991
Before this, Oldham started his career a little closer to home, here in Texas. Setting out on his own after high school, Oldham moved from Corpus Christi to Dallas with a borrowed $50-worth of white cotton, which he dyed and sewed into a small line that he sold to Neiman Marcus. Then moving to fashion capital New York City, Oldham gained national recognition, winning the Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent from the Council of Fashion Designers in 1991. The Spring collection that earned him this award was full of bejeweled mosaics on itty-bitty mini dresses and glistening bralettes. His fashion statements fused a love of craft and the vernacular of the everyday with a tradition of bold, avant-garde, luxury design.
Tumblr media
Fall 1992 | Fall 1991
Speaking of statement pieces...
Speaking of statement pieces, one of the Oldham brand’s signatures was the use of digitally-printed fabrics. Even in his early career, the designer pioneered this method that came to be increasingly popular in the 90s. Oldham often showcased his digital prints alongside textures with very different visual effects in a single design—like the pearlescent, metal-linked vests over crepe-de-chine slips or gradient velvets found in his Fall 1991 collection.
Tumblr media
Spring 1993 | Fall 1993
Knit crochets and polyesters made from digitally-printed polaroid shots were keynotes of his covetable eye for design. By 1992, some of the most desired supermodels of the decade graced Todd Oldham runways, from a fresh-faced 18-year-old Tyra Banks, to others including Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington.
Tumblr media
Spring 1994
Todd Oldham’s Spring 1994 collection bounces between print-clad signatures and more thoughtful, sleek pieces that focused on flattering the human figure. Showing this attention to detailed tailoring, whether it was darted side slits for a vest or the fit of a stringy LBD (“little black dress”), Oldham committed to growth and innovation in his designs over time. This collection’s garments showed a new, concurrent interest in minimalism and nodded to 90s trends found in other designers. For example, Oldham created a body-conscious twist on Calvin Klein’s classic slip dress, as well as baby-doll dresses featuring halter necks and stringy, form-revealing silhouettes.

Oldham’s career in fashion from then on featured bright, colorful, “more-is-more” designs alternating with minimalist, body-conscious touches. From barely-there two-piece sets to straw mini skirts and cape combos, Oldham’s style matured throughout the decade. The designer became a master of tasteful maximalism in his pairings of full-body prints with black, satin, cropped blazers and embroidered straps on slip dresses. Evidence of Oldham’s colorful, eclectic design aesthetic and use of digitally-printed textiles can be seen in the McNay’s Fashion Nirvana: Runway to Everyday exhibition. All loaned from the Texas Fashion Collection (TFC), a coat printed with a picture of paper shreds joins the “Less Is More & More Is More” section, while a colorful shirtwaist dress and landscape-photography-clad t-shirt dress can be found in the “Culture & Subculture” section.

After Oldham closed his fashion house in 1999, he went on to work in interior design, author several books, and other creative ventures. Oldham has a history of showcasing his multidisciplinary artistic talents. Many may remember Oldham’s “Todd Time” segments on MTV’s House of Style program, in which the designer shared DIY projects, helpful life hacks, and creative yet affordable fashion advice. Although Todd Oldham has moved on to other horizons, there are plenty of opportunities to dream about what could’ve joined your vintage closet on view at the McNay Art Museum.

Upon closing his fashion business in 1999, Oldham donated 118 garments from his archive to the Texas Fashion Collection, also known as the TFC, at the University of North Texas (Denton, TX). Thanks to a partnership with the TFC, numerous signature examples of what made Oldham so distinctly successful will be on view at the McNay for the coming months. A silk ribbon gown, a satin coat, a pinstripe dress, and more grace this exhibition’s slice of fashion history from the 1990s, calling to the minimal-maximalist in all of us.

The TFC, located in Denton, TX, houses over 20,000 historic and designer garments and accessories and is directed by Annette Becker. Fashion Nirvana: Runway to Everyday is an exhibition organized by the McNay Art Museum in partnership with the TFC. Fashion Nirvana is the first fashion and video art exhibition in the Museum’s history, and focuses on the style and culture of the 1990s.
