Good evening, friends and neighbors!

This has a lovely, swanky feel to it, compared to the driving pace of the Sonic Act 1 version. They both have the "wild west" intro to them, but this takes on a hip hop groove, complete with record scratches and vocal samples--both true to the style and to the Genesis/Mega Drive legacy. The muted trumpet is a great touch as well. It's got great groove, and I love the little chromatic touches here and there that add harmonic depth. There's a whistle sound doubling the melody that blends so well, I almost didn't catch it--great layering!

Fang the Sniper/Hunter

He/Him // 21 yrs old // Australian🇦🇺 & Dominican🇩🇴 // Bisexual

Fang is a mercenary/bounty hunter and the leader of Team Hooligan. Though he often works alone for most gigs, he considers his team to be a found family of sorts, despite not always getting along with them. He has a great fascination for guns, but often uses his regular cork gun unless it's for serious situations. He's easy to anger and is heavily motivated by his greed and desire to prove himself as a top notch mercenary. Though things don't always work in his favor.

He's told very few people about his origins, how he had once descended from a noble family, until "one incident led to another and now suddenly I'm all on my own!" The one thing he absolutely REFUSES to tell people is that Fang isn't really his birth name.

• Cocky, Greedy, and Selfish. Probably has a slight tinge of insecurity due to past failures with Sonic and company.

• Keeps cigarette packs on his person often.

• Has a small shack he and the others share together over in Mirage Saloon Zone. He started sharing his room with Jest once she started hanging around.

• Loves mechanics, no one else but him drives the Marvelous Queen, it's a vehicle of his own design.

• Likes playing card games, spicy food, and keyboards.

Jest the Jack Rabbit

She/Her // 21 yrs old // Puerto Rican🇵🇷 & Trinidadian🇹🇹 // Bisexual

Jest is another bounty hunter, who despite her silly clown appearance, is a very threatening figure. She's agile, quick witted, and carries around a baseball bat she calls the Wacky Whammer, that's bound to give anyone a painful concussion. She came across Team Hooligan after they [Mainly just Fang] attempted to mug her, to which they received a harsh beating at her hand. She has found herself to be fixated on their leader however, and sticks around them to watch them struggle for success.

She grew up in a circus with her sisters, before finding herself fixated on the chaos emeralds and chaos energy. Unleashing an ultimate chaos has been her grand goal as she hopes to spread her madness across the world. She plans to achieve that, either by herself or with other comrades as her stepping stool.

• Loud, Annoying and Obnoxious. Loves to push Fang's buttons and watch him lose his cool. Her not so secret crush on him is absurd.

• A known sadist, she enjoys intimidating others and seeks out the emeralds for power and chaos.

• Enjoys gossiping with her friends, Ace and Solar, particularly about the Hooligans.

• What her and Fang have is a somewhat open secret. It's hard to tell if they hate each other or love each other. From their endless bickering to Jest's raunchy flirting.

• Likes cinnamon buns, yo-yos, and fondant.

Bean the Dynamite

Any Pronouns // 15 yrs old // Brazilian🇧🇷 // Pansexual, Genderfluid

Bean is a young and spontaneous explosives expert, with a goofy and hyperactive personally that keeps the team on their toes. He carries around comically large bombs, no one is really sure HOW he does, but they don't ever seem to question his methods. Despite his lighthearted demeanor most of the time, no one can ever seem to tell what he's got cooking in that brain of his.

Not much is known of where Bean came from, but from what Bean's told about himself, he remembers being in an egg. And a great amount of movement. Up until he hatched and found himself all alone in the middle of the forest. Most just assume he hit his head or something before he ran into Bark.

• Silly, Scatterbrained, and Crazy. Hard to tell if he's a bad guy when he's so comedic.

• Fidgets constantly, he can't sit still for more than a few minutes.

• His bombs are handmade, and he likes gifting them to the others as surprises or as little pranks.

• Considers Bark to be an older brother figure who keeps him in check. Buys him Father's Day cards.

• Likes comic books, explosives, and gummies.

Bark the Polar Bear

He/They // 23 yrs old // Russian🇷🇺 & Haitian🇭🇹 // Pansexual Demiboy

Bark is the overall brawn of the team, being the strongest physically and able to do most of the heavy lifting if necessary. He's the most level headed as well, and finds himself being the one to pull everyone back when things get too complicated [If Fang himself isn't having a pissy fit]. He's particularly shy and doesn't really like communicating much with others, as he finds it quite difficult. And despite his rather prickly job, he means well and cares for others like Bean and Amy Rose.

Before he had become a member of Team Hooligan, it's been said that he's gotten his fighting experience from being that of a professional fighter. He doesn't enjoy bringing it up, but he prefers what he's got going on now. If any of the others ask to fight him, he'll consider the offer.

• Quiet, Tough, and Stoic. He cares though, he's just a bit shy when it comes to feelings.

• A walking furnace, he gets warm easily and has an itch for cold food often.

• Used to fight professionally at one point before joining Fang's gang.

• Selective mute and often communicates with sign language or writing.

• Likes seafood, belly rubs, and coloring books.

Sonic Universe Online #52 Behind The Scenes!

Hello, everyone!  Boy, it’s been a while since we’ve done one of these, huh?  But considering we finally managed to release this issue after its nightmarish production cycle, we decided that it was a good time to bring the “behind the scenes” posts back.  There’s a lot to talk about with this one, so get ready for a real doozy!

As usual, let’s start with the cover.  We wanted to have Bunnie and Scarlett as the focus, and RocketPOW! went through several drafts of what that would look like.  In the end, we settled on having them playing cards in the bar from Sonic Mania’s Mirage Saloon Zone to fit with the desert theme.  It’s also worth noting that we had Jack on the cover at one point but ultimately decided against it, since the story focuses more on his lackeys than himself.

Before we start on the actual story, I guess we should begin with the elephant in the room: Bunnie’s redesign.  Even though we technically first saw her new look in issue 51, we might as well go over it now.  Picking up from where the official comic left off, we knew that Bunnie had a redesign after being legionized, but the reboot happened before we ever got to see it.  And with the redesign of such an important character, obviously there was a lot of pressure to do her justice.  There was some old concept art by Tracy Yardley of legionnaire Bunnie, but we didn’t want to just take that and call it a day.  We had quite a field day with many of our talented artists coming up with their own interpretations of her redesign, including @miitoons, @riggo-draws, @drawloverlala, @fritzymagpies, Tim Campbell, CrimDa, DoNotDelete, and more that I sadly can’t remember anymore.  From the shape and function of her cybernetics, her overall color scheme, her clothing, her hairstyle, her weapons, etc., every last detail was meticulously gone over until we arrived at the final design taking what we liked most from each of them.

At first, we had gotten Tale to draw out the first several pages, and even though they were finished, he unfortunately had to step out of the issue and we had Gilgalad take over, better known as Thomas Rothlisberger, who we were lucky to have on the team before he moved on to the IDW Sonic comics.  For the sake of consistency (lol), we unfortunately had to scrap Tale’s pages so he could redo those as well.

Holly’s sickness isn’t elaborated on in the actual story, but the gist is that she’s a snow leapord who was roboticized during the First Robotnik War.  But after the Bem deroboticized her while she was in the desert, her body became sick due to being stuck in the inhospitable environment, which is an example of how misplaced many of the former Robians were being sent far out of their natural habitats, and losing the protection of their robot bodies was actually a detriment.

A Sonic fan with a good eye for detail may notice that the guard who takes over watching Bunnie after Scarlett is actually one of the unnamed members of Infinite’s Jackal Squad from the Sonic Forces prequel comic.  Since this cameo may or may not go anywhere in regards to Infinite in ASO, we opted against using Infinite himself since he’s too important of a character to pass off as a mere cameo.  If you want this plot thread to be expanded upon, let us know!

Since this is where we introduce Holly and her relationship with Scarlett, it’s as good a time as any to discuss the process of their creation.  With Scarlett, we wanted to introduce a character who would serve as a foil to Bunnie, another person struggling due to their bedridden lover, but with diametrically-opposed views regarding cybernetics.  Her design was actually taken from a random Sand Blaster who appeared in a single panel of StH #218, who we decided to turn into a full-fledged character.  Although her species was unknown during her single appearance, we decided to make her a fennec fox.  On the other hand, Holly was an entirely new design that we came up with for the story.  The LGBT aspect of their relationship was actually the idea of my editor for the issue, The Shadow Imperator.  I stated in the interview after the issue that I was the one who came up with their names, but that’s not the whole truth.  There was a whole team effort dedicated to naming the two of them, before I suggested Scarlett since there was an abandoned plot point about how Bunnie’s true name was at one point planned to be Scarlett O’Hare.  Our Scarlett’s full name is Scarlett O’Fenn, with ShadImp being the one to suggest adding the last name as well.  But since her last name didn’t come up in the story, I apologize for forgetting to mention it.  Holly was also one of several names I came up with, which was agreed on due to the sort of “snowy” feel it has to it.

In my initial draft for Scarlett and Holly’s conversation, I wrote Holly as being more openly pessimistic about her condition, outright stating that Scarlett would be better off if she was gone.  But since that seemed rather inconsiderate to Scarlett’s feelings, ShadImp suggested that I tone it down a little and have her only mention feeling like a burden.  He was also the one to suggest that I make sure their romantic relationship is mentioned as explicitly as possible, so there would be no room for ambiguity that might lessen the impact of their sexual orientation.

Scarlett taking off her hat here wasn’t actually in the script I wrote, but it was a smart move by Gilgalad, showing her letting her guard down around the one person she can afford to do so with.  To put it simply, Scarlett offers Holly physical support while Holly offers Scarlett emotional support, so neither one is one-sidedly supporting the other.  This scene also demonstrates that even though Scarlett is easily the most level-headed and compassionate Sand Blaster we’ve seen so far, some of the old bigotries and prejudice against cyborgs and robots that Jack instilled into her still remain.

Gilgalad had actually already penciled out the next couple pages, but since he wasn’t able to stick around for the full story, we decided that that the end of Scarlett and Holly’s scene was a good cutoff point for the drastic shift in art style.  Red Rabbit is an amazing artist with a style very similar to Patrick Spaziante, but it is still a jarring shift compared to most other artists on the project.  I had also originally written Bunnie mentioning not being very good at undercover missions, but when ShadImp brought up her successful operation tricking Battle Lord Kukku I changed the script to have her mention that instead.

At first, I was planning for the poker scene to have the characters holding cards that reflected their position in the conversation, such as holding a winning hand when they have the upper hand in the argument.  But since I have absolutely no knowledge or experience with poker, that idea ultimately didn’t come through in the final story.  This scene also serves to flesh out the Sand Blasters and show that none of them are blindly loyal to Jack.  Tex obviously has his own agenda, Avery just goes along with whatever’s the least troublesome, Shift wants to get his hands on new technology, and Jolt does genuinely want the city to open up to the rest of the world.

You may have noticed that instead of rocket feet like her old design, Bunnie now flies with a removable jet pack on her back.  If you’re wondering how that wouldn’t burn her tail off, it was specifically designed so that the fire trails would shoot aiming away from her tail.

Originally, during the car chase sequence Bunnie’s jet pack was just written to malfunction for no real reason.  But eventually, I decided to give it a more interesting explanation by adding in hints that Shift may have intentionally sabotaged it to trip up Bunnie, only to reveal that he was actually trying to fix it and he didn’t betray her after all.  This was also the portion of the story where Ink Pants took over for pencils, and then Lav after him.  Even though they’re all fine artists in their own right, hopefully this will be the last time that we need to include so many drastic changes in art style to illustrate a single story.

We almost had one more shift in art style, with @gendeerfluid​ penciling the last page.  In the end, Lav managed to finish that one as well, giving us a massive cliffhanger both figuratively and literally in the form of Jun Kun, the Iron King.

for now this is intended for creative mode only but some blocks have functionality (saplings grow, leaves drop saplings and sticks, logs can make planks, planks can do plank things, etc) but not all of them, so, uh… yeah

it’s gonna include some misc junk that will be worked on in other packs (rings are part of the basic pack, chao stuff will be in the chao pack) but they will be visual elements at the absolute best

anyway, here’s the green hill pack’s current showcase + the totem wings after i added them. probably gonna make a nicer show area when i’m “done” (ie: feel like moving on, which is soon)

Angel Island Zone: Great Cutscene & Unless Ur in Encore Mode U Can't Play the Zone Regularly, but if Ur in Encore Mode, then this Zone Is Cool to be back in, i guess.

Green Hill Zone Act 1: Here Me Out! What if we Take Green Hill Zone and give it better level design and enhance its Music. I Like this version of Green Hill Zone Better than The Sonic 1 Version. Green Hill Zone Act 2: Awesome Visuals and Level Aesthetic with Great Music & Level Design + New Gimmicks!

Chemical Plant Zone Act 1: Great Music Remix and Better Level Design. Chemical Plant Zone Act 2: Syringes that change Raw Mega Mack to bouncy jelly? Yes Please! DNA Strands That take up And Sticky Jelly Platforms? I Like That! & A Boss Based around DR. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine! U Can't Go Wrong with This Act & Its Remixed Music! Studiopolis Zone Act 1: Lights, Camera, Action! The Music, Level Aesthetics, & Speed Sections are awesome. there's even a Throwback to the Sega Sonic Popcorn Shop and The Lock on Cartridge Technology Form Back in the Day when Sega Had Made Sonic & Knuckles! Studiopolis Zone Act 2: Its Prime Time! If Ur Looking for Gimmicks up the Wazoo & Better Level Design, Then This Act is Ur choice. It's Actually My Choice over Act 1 (Lights, Camera, Action!) but act one is a Very Close Second!

Flying Battery Zone Act 1: The Remixed Music Is Great, Better Level Design Than The original, And a great New Mechanic! (Electric Shield on the Electric Roofs) Flying Battery Zone Act 2: Great Act 2 Remix Music & Level Design. + the Rain aesthetics & Reference to wacky workbench were nice touches. Bad Boss Though...

Press Garden Zone Act 1: Working in the Tabloid Jargon! The Music Is Phenomenally Amaizing! The Level aesthetics and Gimmicks are Awesome & The Level Design Is Really Good + There's a lot of references to Launch Base Zone. This is Definitely a great Zone and My 2nd Favorite. It's also Great to listen to this while Ur working or cleaning! (I don't see a lot of people caring about the 1st act of PGZ, just listen to the Music and you'll see!) Press Garden Zone Act 2: Its A Blossom Haze! NGL, i think PGZ ACT 2 is Awesome. Blossom Haze Is Really Chill and Stuff with Ice Blowers From ICZ, Ice Spikes & New Mechanics. Though all that's Awesome, I don't want People to Forget Tabloid Jargon the Greatest Work Ethic Sonic Zone and also the only Sonic Work Ethic Zone, Cause many of People Forget Press Garden Zone (Mainly Act 1), But This Zone Should Be a National Zone Treasure. Act 2 Is Still Awesome but i Prefer Act 1.

Stardust Speedway Zone Act 1: Groovy Dude! The Sonic Mania Remix Was So Solid Man! They Bring Back Every Groovy Part of the original SSZ From CD with great Level Design, Groovy Elements, And Many References to Marble Garden Zone! Stardust Speedway Zone Act 2: Now here's The Superior Act Between The two, the first Act and The Second act are tied For Best act Music but there are lots of things to like in this act, especially the Metal Sonic Boss!

HydroCity Zone Act 1: I love HydroCity Zone, Especially Act 2 but Act 1 Really Wins the award for Most Gimmicks and Gameplay. Its Great to See a Zone Like This Return, Especially Since Sonic Mania Needed a good Water Zone and I'm Absolutely Astounded that it returned & That the Music Is Remixed to the point where i could sit and listen to it for hours. HydroCity Zone Act 2: NGL, I'm Just as Happy Seeing HydroCity Return in Sonic Mania as Etika & Cobanermani 456 are. HydroCity Was a Great Nostalgic Return, I Loved Everything about This Act in S3&K and I Love Everything About It Here! I'm Glad They Didn't Change the Gimmicks and just Stayed True to the original, And That Remix Is Fire!

Mirage Saloon Zone Act 1: Skyway Octane Is a Great Music Piece & The Zone Has Some Great Aesthetics, But I'm Not a Fan of the Plane Part or the Boss. I Do like That Team Hooligans returned as part of the act 2 Boss & I do Like the Knuckles Version of Act 1 Called Wildstyle Pistolero. Mirage Saloon Zone Act 2: So, as I Stopped by The Rogues Gallery, I Noticed, This Music Is Bomb! It's Really Great. Here's the Weirdest part, I used to hate MSZ Before I played Sonic Mania. Now that i Know that this Zone is Great, I can say that I love the Handguns, Pinatas, Lightbulbs, Bumpalos, The Water Sprayers, and The Boss!

Oil Ocean Zone Act 1: Well i didn't expect this one to return, they had to have a Balancer Zone (AKA control Variable) in there and here it is. I never Liked his zone until it got a Great Mania Remix & Better Level Design Oil Ocean Zone Act 2: Thí- Hey Wait a Minute... It's JUST SANDOPOLIS ZONE IN DISGUISE! WHY SONIC MANIA, WHY DID U THINK THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA! OF ALL IDEAS YOU COULD HAVE BRUNG BACK, U BRING THIS BACK! (Calming Down) At least the music is great, but it gives off a Desert music Feeling which isn't the best feeling.

Lava Reef Zone Act 1: NGL, I love the Comeback, i Love the Mania Remix, I love the New Mechanics and Aesthetics like the bridges & Buttons, but I kind of prefer the Original Because 16-bit music for this zone is awesome & Nostalgia. This Music track is awesome whether or not the Original Inches forward or not. Lava Reef Zone Act 2: The Mystic Cave Feeling and The Cooled Crystal Feeling Have Been Amplified Due to the Music & Atmosphere. The Mechanic from Quartz Quadrant Was a Nice Touch & The Music Is Really Good with a Soft guitar Playing, Awesome!

Metallic Madness Zone Act 1: Bro, if you hate this act, u don't Know life. This Zones Music Is Fire, there's lots of Mechanics True to The Original and new Mechanics, the Music Is Phenomenal, The Level Aesthetics are Greatly Respected & The level Design is Great. I even thought out my own Lyrics (First verse: Check the Mic, Yō, We'll Break Down the Madness. Roll Out the Door, Straight Up, Storm the Castle. Imma Blast off, I Have No Fatigue. Out Of My League, Naughty Egg, You Can See the Crew. Second Verse: Now, Check Out my moves, check out My Speed, How's It really Feeling? Going Fast with The Doctor at My Feet. I Live in The Fast Track. You're Getting In my Way. I Carry the Day "Hey!" Cause I (Na, Na, Na, Na) RUN!). At least I think they're the right ones. Metallic Madness Zone Act 2: Oh Man! That Saxophone, The Level Aesthetics, Chibi Sonic, And the Music in General Is All So Awesome! Though Spikes up the wazoo are not fun, but the zone's music tells me to forget about it.

Titanic Monarch Zone Act 1: I'm in no Monarch... well unless u count this zone (Rim Shot). We All Know this Zone Was Built to Rule (Name of the Song), But It Has its Ups and Downs Like the Death Egg Act 1 Boss Came Back, The Mechanics & Gimmicks are awesome, The Spikes & Enemies Get even more tedious, and The Level aesthetic was heading for a Robot Building in Progress like Launch Base. so out of everything, this zone is just bad. Titanic Monarch Zone Act 2: If you hated final bosses in sonic Games, then you'll hate this One! I sure do! I don't like how if you're not careful, you'll get sent to the beginning of the area. Really tedious Stuff. The Steel Cortex music is good, but not the best music.

Egg Reverie Zone: The true final boss is pretty hard, but it doesn't have the best music compared to the big arms fight.

mania released in the us august 15 2017. it was my first sonic game, in that I bought it because I wanted to play a sonic game. iirc I got it early 2021 and I only managed to beat it for the first time late last year. it was also my first ever 2d platforming game

forces released a few months after mania, and the two games are connected. both are centred around the phantom ruby, and if you beat the game as super sonic, you unlock the ending where sonic is sent through a portal and into the plot of forces

mania has the return of the kings, mighty and ray. there are 13 zones, including 4 new ones - studiopolis (a nightmare to me), press garden (my beloved), mirage saloon, and titanic monarch

Headcanon questions

Fang and Bean both feel most comfortable at home-- a hideout they carved out in the upper floor of an old tavern in Mirage Saloon Zone. They've got all the essentials, a computer for finding bounties, a couple beds for sleeping on, the owner of the place even lets Fang store the Marvelous Queen in a shed in the back. It isn't much, but it's comfortable, and it gives them a place to hang their hats at the end of the day.

Bark lives with Fang and Bean in Mirage Saloon as well, but finds the place too hot and dry to really get comfortable. For him, comfort is his birthplace-- Aurora Icefield Zone, a frigid zone on a small island just north off the coast of Holoska. Cold air, family, plenty of water to swim in, just thinking about it is enough to bring him some calm. It's been a while since he's been back, though, and he wonders how his family is doing.
