A new working conspiracy theory regarding election integrity is spreading among Democratic voters after it was revealed that Starlink, a satellite owned by Elon Musk through SpaceX, was used for connectivity on voting tabulators.

A few counties, notably a few in swing states, across the U.S. have come forward about connectivity and functional issues with the voting tabulators that were used on Election Day. On top of that, some of these polling places received bomb threats and had to be evacuated.

When it comes to events where one needs to show off their talent, the first person that comes to mind is Yui actually! His genius and passion for robotics have mostly been poured into and has accumulated to form his ultimate creation, Kanarobo! A flying robot packed with lethal weaponry, but don't worry! It can be friendly and sing too! Yui made sure to put a lot of fun varying features to it, I personally also wonder what other features he put into this robot.

More ramblings below!

The robot can dance too! But its movements are limited, since this version is still a bit too heavy. Yui is currently trying to balance it being able to do various stuff besides combat (=more weight) and it being able to fly (more weight = needs more fuel; more fuel consumption = shorter fly time). This robot is still work-in-progress and it's not at its final form yet! Wouldn't it be funny if it becomes a gun/dam in TYL sdbfhsvf

The singing tone is actually quite expressive, compared to the voice of the original voice provider. I can imagine Yui and Shiki (who's more knowledgeable in software stuff) working together in the tuning for the voice bank. This is similar to how producers would tune voca|loids/voicebank software like Mi/ku.

Then we have Minato, who is always very petty and bitter when Yui gets some spotlight. My brother in christ, please let him live! Showing off his babies is one of the only few times Yui ever really wants to be in the spotlight (in his mind, its his babies getting the spotlight actually). Tbh, Minato is the one person who can grind Yui's gears so easily, so we might be able to see Kanarobo's lethal functions if we fast forward to image above to a few minutes later. Ah yes, beef my favorite meet. It runs deeps here.

Good thing Kurumi is there to stop him from running up to the stage sdhfvsghvfsd While drawing this, it made me think that damn Minato truly is blind. I would be 😳😳😳 if Kurumi gave me a hug from behind. This is what hatred does to a person! You'll be so blinded, you won't see the cute girl behind you! Someone give this man some glasses! Unfortunately, Kurumi got too excited about the Kanarobo performance that she couldn't control her hug strength.

Hiyori gets dragged into the craziness like always. But tbh, even before Oniyanagi, he's pretty used to getting involved in official events or when Disciplinary Committee leader decides to beat up some thugs, so a talent like this is pretty tame so far (compared to the idea of getting dragged to actual missions in some battlefield). Now, he just resigned to be there on stand-by in case someone gets injured from the performance on stage. But he didn't know that the upcoming medical emergency (rib fracture) is just brewing very near behind him 🤩🤩🤩

Minato is the closest to Kurumi in the 10th Gen Oniyanagi lineup, so he won't get seriously angry at her for stopping him or for breaking his ribs sdjhvfhsfd

Besides the recent frequent appearances of Kanarobo, I really enjoyed sketching Miyako! I still find it so hilarious how she wants to take Kanarobo hahahaha I did not expect that development, but it's so fun! I'm a bit unsure which eye coloring style to use for her, if the standard one (black pupil?) or smth similar to Takehsi and Yuni? Anyway, I just followed the style from the picrew for now.

It's now playable on itch.io!

It's a rhythm game about a blind alchemist called Eilidh who uses music to brew her potions, with the help of her wife Leagsaidh and lab assistant Calum. The game is made with blindness accessibility in mind, and it fully playable without any visual input.

We plan to develop it further, so there may be more updates in the future!

Day 10: Personality

TBH I was tempted to skip this day out of concern of not doing justice with describing them. And it's kind of tricky when I have multiple interpretations of their personality based on how far down the theorical timeline I go... But you know what? Practice makes perfect I suppose. So let's just do it.

Jackit: Quiet and reserved. Rarely talking to anyone besides Sara, or as the adventure develops, the rest of the party. This quirk often results in them getting mistaken for mute or even non-human at times. They do actually have a bit of interest in the history of this world.

Sara: Seemly outgoing, but not to the degree of Nayla. Always willing to act as the voice of Jackit and may come off a bit overprotective at times. While overall the voice of reason for the group, she can loose her cool if her patience is pushed too far. Despite her more collective nature, she will throw hands with you if you threaten something she cares about. She also can be a bit touchy with certain topics like her family history or that of the guiding light figure.

Techie: The middle ground of the introverted/extroverted spectrum. She seems well mattered and chill enough in normal conversation. But you can see her hyper fixation with Myi come into play when she scouts enemies in battle to see their stats. Often geeking out at certain enemy types or even letting out a groan when she realizes that the enemy's name is a pun.

Not exactly a personality trait, but it's worth noting that she's paralyzed from the waist down. Hence why she's always depicted either in her wheelchair or her mech that lets her use Earth Myi. It also indirectly led to her hyper fixation with Myi, despite not being a Mentalist herself. Her parents are both major owners of some of the biggest tech companies in the region and use their wealth and experience in the fields of software/robotics to find a way to better their daughter's life. With Techie inheriting that interest from constant exposure to technology and Myi.

Nayla: Highly sociable, if not flirtatious at times. She never hesitate to speak up if something feels off and will often be the first to butt heads with with people. Easily the most independent of the group.

She has pride towards her heritage as a member of the wind clan, but is tired of just being in one place all her life. Using the adventure as an excuse to get away from her life working at the family wood tour business to see new parts of the world. Hopefully she'll grow to better like everyone else as she become more comfortable around them.

Sole: The most formal of the group, despite being the youngest. Always making sure to use her manners and often hesitant to let her guard down, from a social angle. She's always looking for a pacifist approach to problems, even when fighting the minions of darkness themselves. A people pleaser to a fault. Though throughout the adventure, she does let her guard down enough to reveal her more childish interests, such as her obsession with the children's IP Rib-Lin.

Mis detail/rambling:

If you're curious, I'm sticking to how they would be early in the events of Overseer of the Elements for everything I talk about this month.

Beyond the multiple interpretation base on the timeline thing, it's a little tricky for me to express grasp my characters due to wanting to be a little flexible based on how it affects the game.

Characters like Jackit, Sara, and Sole I've had for so long and gotten a chance to actually use them in other media, I feel I have a firm grasp on who they are. But others like Techie and Nayla are pretty new. Well, they've been around for a bit at this point, but they still feel new compared to "OCs I've had since literal childhood", so there's a mix of not getting a chance to use them a lot to feel out their personality and trying to make said personality interesting without feeling too similar to the rest of the cast.

Common BSoD reasons (Blue Screen of DESU)

Your computer worked fine yesterday, and now it keeps crashing. Wa da heq?

The most common issues I've seen causing BSoD isn't malware, or even user error. Though they're not the least common causes either.

They're from updates pushed by developers.

Usually it's from some system update that manages your memory allocation incorrectly. Or processor execution errors and mishaps handled incorrectly.

But it is also quite common for a driver update to cause the same issue. And because Video Card drivers update monthly; they're the most likely cause of breakage.

To be fair; not updating your driver's can be just as hard as updating your driver's so it's important to know which driver configuration worked last.

And this is why Windows has system restore points.

Interestingly; one of the most common driver failures I've seen comes from Nvidia Graphics Driver failing to regulate the cards internal temperature appropriately.

There's usually an internal thermal switch that cuts off when the driver gets too hot which then throttles your graphics card and will cause crashing.

And this thermal switch can degrade over time. Which means your graphics card has a lower tolerance for heat than it should.

However; elevation and humidity can *also* cause the same issue. Which means your rig might operate differently in Detroit Mi than it does in Dallas TX, or even SLC UT.

And quite often devs try to reduce their tolerances for kicking in the graphics cards cooling fans; power saving conferences maybe.

And often the will wind up with your card running hotter than it should. This is why the EVGA tools (and other similar software tools) include manual fan controls.

Because the onboard regulation and default drivers tend to heck it all up.

But that's not the only issue I've seen with graphics cards; sometimes: the devs try to use more VRam than the card has. Or even less VRam and then just forget which blocks of VRam they set to be used by the system.

It can literally be fixed one day, and then unfixed and then next, and just toggle back and forth despite user complaints.

In fact; nearly any issue that is commonly considered "due to heating issues" can be traced back to driver issues for similar reasons to what I listed.

Incorrect memory usage, cooling regulation not appropriately modulated cooling modules, processor and graphics processor being sent incorrect commands.

Registry issues can also cause memory issues as certain blocks of memory get used by too many sources at the same time (but not often) multiple drivers trying to run the same hardware (which can also be caused by software creating extra instances of graphics level singleton interfaces)

So if you're ever wondering what could possibly be wrong with your PC, it's more likely a driver issue.

But... You could also have forgotten to install cooling modules, or decided to overclock your hardware without increasing cooling.

Or even overclocked your hardware too much.

But barring overclock; is most likely driver issues. I've even seen windows surface devices on their end of life updates get driver updates that break graphics, causing overheat and ghosting (leftover images) on the screen.

Which I feel like may have been on purpose.

Though locating an older driver, or installing Linux usually worked if no *real* hardware issue was present.

the enigma of (art) blend modes, and how doing brain research taught me how to better utilize them

(DISCLAIMER--I'm not actually going in-depth on different blend modes; there's other resources for that sort of thing! Rather, I'm just planning on talking about how they've been captivating to me in the past.)

I've been working with digital art programs for quite some time now, mostly for my game development pursuits, but also more recently just for fun.

Whatever program I'm using, be it Aseprite, Krita, or Paint.net, there's always this goofy little feature referred to as "blend modes". Really, all it refers to is how new colors should be made when two colors overlap on an image--particularly from different layers.

Back when I was young and naive, those layer blend modes hardly did more than just exist. Maybe I'd pull down that drop-down menu and switch around the modes every once in a while, but this was never used to help me during the creation process.

There's something about starting to use a new art program and getting overwhelmed by all the buttons on the UI. Of course, it takes time to master those menus, but when you do, it's nothing short of rewarding.

Which brings me to one of the most interesting programs I've worked with: Fiji.

Fiji isn't an art program--it's anything but. Instead, it's open source image processing software, designed for life science related analyses.

I've had the (mis)fortune of becoming acquainted with this software through my internship. When it was introduced to me last year, it was... overwhelming, to say the least.

(I like how it starts with normal sounding words, before devolving into things like "Helmholtz Analysis" and "Multi Kymograph".)

If any of you are already super-mega-brain-nerds and know how to utilize all of these options, then good for you, I suppose. For the vast majority of the people who are unacquainted with neuroscience (such as myself), however, this is INCREDIBLY daunting to navigate. Imagine something just as confusing as this for the other menus.

Hell, even just importing imaging data proves labyrinthine:

(by the way, if you're still using Paint.NET yourself for art, 1. what are you doing, and 2. Krita is much better for what I needed from an art program, so I might recommend trying that out if Paint.NET is getting on your nerves!)

Anyway, loading imaging data into Fiji usually gives you a video you can pan through. Most imaging data usually either represents a z-series, t-series, or both.

A z-series is imaging done on several layers of the subject's brain at a single time point, to create a 3D stack of images with time substituting for the depth into the brain.

On the other hand, a t-series is imaging done (usually) on a single layer of the brain throughout several time points. (Data I've worked with has ranged from 15-minute-long t-series to 100-minute-long t-series.) This again creates a 3D stack, though this time, time represents, well, time. (This is how most video is stored--even if the video itself is 2-dimensional, you're still "technically" viewing 2D slices of a 3D stack--though only super-nerds call video 3D.)

A zt-series can also be imaged by making several z-series over time, which can be processed into a 4D video. (Usually, though, the slices have to be processed through software to order them properly.)

Last year, I worked with zt-series a lot. This year, however, I've got easier work--I'm just working with t-series this time, to analyze calcium activity.

They're nicer to work with, to say the least. I've worked on automating the collection of calcium activity data by comparing the minimum and maximum values of each pixel throughout the whole t-series in order to determine where there's potentially calcium activity happening.

...in fact, once you get an image of the minimum and maximum values of each pixel across the whole t-series, you then work with those images as layers and use different functions to extract a mask that shows only potential calcium activity regions.

Specifically the "Multiply" and "Divide" modes.

It's a bit of a stretch, of course, but working with these black-and-white images has helped me better grasp what's going on under the cover when I use those same blend modes for art.

USAF and Raytheon perform first firing of new version of AMRAAM

The U.S. Air Force and Raytheon successfully completed the first firing test of the AIM-120C-8 - the latest international variant of AMRAAM developed under the Form, Fit, Function (F3R) update.

The AIM-120C-8 was fired from an F-15C Eagle and shot down the air target, reaching all the primary objectives of the flight test.

"AMRAAM is a proven missile in combat, trusted by more than 40 international partners for air-to-air and surface-to-air missions," said Paul Ferraro, president of Air Power at Raytheon, an RTX company. "With the advances of F3R, which updates the missile hardware and enables future Agile software updates, we are maximizing the capabilities of this ammunition for allies around the world."

Under the F3R program, engineers used model-based system engineering initiatives and other digital technologies to update multiple circuit boards and advanced processors in the missile orientation section and to re-host legacy software on the AIM-120D-3 and AIM-120C-8 AMRAAMs.

This AIM-120C-8 flight test follows the completion of the AIM-120D-3 flight tests. The AIM-120D-3 flight tests were completed in just 11 months after the initial flight test and completed with the demonstration of the success of the missile in a highly contested environment.

Recently, the U.S. Air Force awarded Raytheon a $1.15 billion AMRAAM contract to produce AIM-120D-3 and C-8 missiles for 19 countries.
