Her number. So Nick thinks it's a girl. Well, Harry can't blame him: 'Lou' is kind of an androgynous nickname. His stylist's name is Lou.

But this Lou, well, Louis, he's kind of, really, really not a girl. He's really pretty though, which, is something.

The Three Tools of Transphobia I- Misandrogyny

This is the first in a series explaining the three tools of transphobia- an explanatory metaphor for how hatred of masculinity, femininity and androgyny inform how transphobia is applied.

Misandrogyny is the androgynous-focused counterpart to misogyny and misandry as concepts. Like the latter two, misandrogyny is often (but not exclusively) deployed as a result of how individuals are read by transphobes. Namely, misandrogyny is the kind of transphobia that occurs when someone isn't clockable as a binary trans man or woman. Instead, transphobes are confronted with someone (that in the moment) they cannot (mis)gender as male or female. In this situation, transphobes will deploy a kind of transphobia often experienced by nonbinary people, if they are not read as either male or female. But this kind of transphobia happens to binary trans people too (especially mid transition).

Transphobia is predicated on how the trans person targeted with it is perceived at the time. It is the reason why nobody is transmisogyny exempt. If you are perceived as a trans woman by a transphobe you will be targeted with transmisogyny. Regardless of if you are a trans woman, a gnc gay man, a cis butch woman or a trans man mid transition or who presents femininely. Misandrogyny is what happens when a transphobe cannot clock a trans person as a binary gender. Misandrogyny is part of and informs all three types of transphobia: transmisogyny, transandrophobia and ceterophobia. Though nonbinary people are more likely to experience missandrogyny due to existing outside of binary gender.

Misandrogyny isn't limited to just targeting trans people either. Like misogyny and misandry, it is often applied against cisgender people. For example, many androgynous presenting cis celebrities will have their presentation constantly called into question. This is because of how gender roles are enforced and how unbinary presentations are not tolerated in the cishet patriarchy. The categories of masculine, feminine and androgynous can be tools of control. Those who deviate from these categories are thus harder to control from transphobe's point of view and their reaction is to reassign those who deviate back into one of those categories to make it more convenient to control expression.

As are all terms we use, this one is imperfect. But I hope that this post was understandable. Good faith feedback and add ons welcome!

Happy 28th of March everyone! It has been a fun month for fic reading and I wanted to share a few of my favourites that I read this month. I've also included some WIPs that I'm reading that are really good!

It's written all over your...(or: the Red Carpet fic) by BlueNeptuune (E) word count: 11,569 The star-studded cast of Steal My Girl graced the red carpet on Saturday night ahead of the premiere screening, sparking an internet sensation like no other. The film itself received an average of 4-and-a-half stars from early reviews, launching it into the spotlight as a contender for the up-and-coming awards season, but the real news came from the carpet itself. Oscar-winner Louis Tomlinson (Kill My Mind, Back For You) made his first public appearance following the badly-hidden split from his management in early 2020, and he wasn’t exactly keen to talk about it. It was also the first time since his earliest work (Still The One is featured on our summer-vibes throwback list) that he’s attended the carpet by himself – rumours swirled that he’d split with his long-time girlfriend, but are the two things related? Tomlinson himself wasn’t spilling any tea, but it looks like one journalist in particular might have coaxed a little more out of him than anyone else...

A Hungry Heart by jacaranda_bloom (E) word count: 27,601 Harry Styles, florist and Great British Bake Off contestant, loves many things. He loves his flower shop, he loves baking, and there’s also that little crush he has on pop star Louis Tomlinson. But when Louis arrives on set as the surprise guest judge, Harry’s worlds collide. Throw in a cup of cuteness, a teaspoon of teasing, and a pinch of pining, and there’s all the ingredients for an epic love story, or absolute chaos.

And it's not just his big tour coming up or the ever-increasing womanizing rumors about the popstar. To get to the bottom of Harry's moodiness, Louis decides he has to kidnap him and take him on a roadtrip up the California coast to Portland. The roadtrippiest road trip fic ever written. Basically an excuse for gratuitous fluff and smut with a pinch of angst tossed in for good measure.

tangled up in you by missandrogyny (E) word count: 45,152 Harry blinks once. And blinks again. And says, his voice dangerous: “Niall, did you get me a mail-order bride?” Because what the actual fuck. It kind of looks like Niall’s just purchased a person. For Harry. Niall blinks back at him for a few moments, before throwing his head back and howling with laughter. Harry throws a pillow at him. Hard. “No, what the fuck, Harry.” “A prostitute then?” Harry also doesn't want a prostitute. “Of course not!” “A stripper?” “No!” Damn, he’s running out of ideas.
