Moon 314-Newleaf

Dawnstar (98) has broken a tradition that has been held for longer than any cat can remember; he gave an unproven dark-cursed cat an apprentice.  Aphidpaw (11) has been given the warrior name of Aphidwhisker, in honor of her friendliness.  Almost immediately afterwards, Dawnstar gave her Scorchpaw (6) as an apprentice.  The Clan watches uneasily as the two young cats head out on patrols together.  There’s a deep sense of something wrong.  But Bluestripe (89) doesn’t think so.  She had a pretty big say in giving Aphidwhisker an apprentice early.  She remembers how frustrated she was with getting proven so much later than her siblings and how that meant she couldn’t have an apprentice.  She trusts Aphidwhisker, and trusts that she’ll do well with Scorchpaw.  Hopcurl and Greenrapid’s other kits have also been made apprentices.  Minnowpaw (6) is apprenticed to Bluestripe.  The young cat is nervous.  She wonders if she’ll be an apprentice forever.  Flailpaw (6) has been apprenticed to Hollowminnow (15).  He keeps searching the crowd during his ceremony, thinking he might spot Greenrapid.  He never knew his mother, but he still feels like she should be there.  Mistypaw (6) is apprenticed to Croucheye (25).  The warrior is a little unsure if she’s ready for an apprentice, especially one like Mistypaw who seems to think he knows the rules better than she does.  What if he’s right?  Meanwhile, Hatchswipe (59) remembers how the senior warriors took her under their wing when she was young, and decides to try and be a similar role model for Mitemask (15).  She tells her a hilarious joke, making Mitemask laugh.  The pranking continues, with Copperheart (30) deciding to team up with Sofanthiel (103) to play a prank on a clanmate.  Little does Sofanthiel know that she is that Clanmate.  She’s good-natured about it when Copperheart drops fox-dung on her head, though.  Petalfrost (26) and Peatfeather (26) are finding other cats in the Clan who like them!  Petalfrost, Longpelt (28), and Aphidwhisker are getting closer, while Peatfeather and Cavecatcher (72) find that they have a lot in common.  Not all of the cats like them, though, and Dapplepaw (11) tells jokes about Petalfrost to Scorchpaw.  While on patrol, Boulderflood (30), Nettlestripe (83), and Dapplepaw hear screams coming from a nearby lake.  They find a twoleg trying to drown a cat in a bag.  Boulderflood and Dapplepaw create a wave to wash the bag towards them while Nettlestripe starts a fire to scare off the twoleg.  The elderly Cinderblockpuddle (233) is thankful for their help and joins the Clan.  It turns out that he is weakly star-blessed.  Although this is similar to how Dawnstar proved himself, it’s not the same.  Dawnstar fought off the twoleg all on his own, whereas Dapplepaw relied heavily on her mentor.

Note: On this moon, Spotfoot died while lost at the age of 95 moons. He was Creekstar's longest-lived and last surviving kit. I was really rooting for him to make it back to the Clan, but it was not to be.

Moon 311-Leaf-bare

ElementClan is feeling the tension with the other Clans.  Burdockbeam (27) knows that, if there’s a battle, it’ll be her first chance to show that she’s a skilled fighter.  However, she ends up training too hard with Hollowpaw (12) and sprains her paw.  Meanwhile, Dawnstar (95) decides that one of the apprentices is ready for her warrior name.  He gives Mitepaw (12) the name of Mitemask, in honor of her enthusiasm.  He has to call her name a couple of times though before she pays attention.  She’s too busy watching a fluttering leaf that seems to vanish before her eyes.  Cavecatcher (69) is proud of Mitemask.  He’s also one of the Clan’s most experienced warriors and Croucheye (22) is impressed with how well he fights.  Kestrelcreek (100) is also proud of Mitemask and is starting to recover from losing her mates.  She enjoys spending time with Nettlestripe (80) and discussing Clan news with him.  Nettlestripe also complains that Hollowpaw never does anything helpful.  While Kestrelcreek is a little offended at his criticism of her son, she does understand it.  He always seems to be getting into trouble.  Mitemask seems a little jumpy lately and keeps startling at things no one else can see while on a patrol.  Despite him being completely unhelpful in raising their kits, Bluestripe (86) still loves Tanglechirp (58).  She purrs for a long time at one of his dad jokes.  Their kits definitely have differing personalities though.  Where Aphidpaw (8) is a little annoying with how much the older cats in the Clan seem to like her, Dapplepaw (8) is much more reserved.  She is surprised when Aries (77) spends some time with her instead of her sister and thanks her earnestly when she grooms a hard to reach spot for her.  Pebbletuft (44) and Bumble (88) are struggling to get along without Lakepelt there.  Pebbletuft is frustrated with the way the senior medicine cat does things and gets in a fight with him.  Peatfeather (23) and Embershell (29) have a bit of a history of not getting along.  They have one good day but then Embershell messes it up by mentioning that she feels like the kits in camp are annoying.  Peatfeather quite likes them.  Pebbletuft also senses war on the horizon (or maybe she’s excited for it) and talks with Dawnstar and Bluestripe about how the Clan could utilize their dark-cursed members to fight.  Minnowkit (3) and Flailkit (3) are proving to be closer to each other than they are their other siblings.  Minnowkit is worried about being an apprentice because she’s afraid of disappointing the Clan. Flailkit is listening to her, but jumps when he hears a croaking frog, creating a big wave that drenches his siblings, most of the other cats in camp, and washes the frog away. Meanwhile,  Scorchkit (3) is listening to Kestrelcreek tell stories about Clan history and wonders about the unknown.  Why did Yuccawillow turn out the way she did?  Do dark-cursed cats really have a connection to the Dark Forest?  Why can’t powerless cats be leader? Kestrelcreek doesn’t have answers for her.

Moon 327-Greenleaf

Dawnstar (111) lost his first life this moon when lightning struck the camp.  It was a bit of a rude awakening and made him realize just how small the Clan is right now.  He’s glad that the lightning struck him and not one of his clanmates (well, he wouldn’t be opposed to it striking Aphidwhisker-24. . .)  In StarClan, Creekstar wonders if she made the right decision by making Dawnstar her deputy.  She doesn’t know if he’s leading the Clan well.  Shadestar comforts her, saying that she also made some questionable decisions in life (e.g. making Yuccawillow deputy).  Aphidwhisker senses that Dawnstar is not a fan of her and uses her silver tongue to make him feel better after losing a life.  Aphidwhisker seems to be developing a bit of a grudge against Hatchswipe (72) after the older cat stole her catch and stole her favorite nesting materials.  Yeah, Aphidwhisker could just grow more, but it’s the principle of the thing! After the loss of Hollowminnow and Mitemask, Kestrelcreek (116) is spending some time with her surviving kit, Croucheye (38), making sure that Croucheye has something to eat.  She feels like she needs to hang on to her last connection to Almondback and Brightmouse.  Kestrelcreek is starting to get over the loss of her mates, though.  She has some fun flirting with Sofanthiel (116) while they’re on a patrol together. Croucheye is also doing some flirting.  She gathers up a bit of bravery and leaves Embershell (45) a gift in her nest.  Embershell doesn’t know who gave it to her, but she does like it.  Meanwhile, Peatfeather (39) is a little frustrated with how Bluestripe (102) has been acting as a deputy.  She just doesn’t seem to want to help out! Hatchswipe, despite being fond of the senior warrior, is also a little frustrated.  She worries that Bluestripe is out of her depth with the deputy position.   With the loss of his littermates, Flailvalley (19) is feeling alone in the Clan.  He just can’t seem to communicate with his Clanmates.  It’s frustrating.

Moon 325-Newleaf

The tensions in the Clan have finally come to a head.  First, the lack of herbs claimed another life.  Although Bumble (102) was able to recover from his broken bone, he was unable to save Tanglechirp (72), who died of yellowcough.  Bluestripe (100) mourns the loss of her mate, but takes comfort in her kits.  Dapplemuzzle (22) does her best to support her mother, but isn’t truly grieving herself.  It’s not like Tanglechirp did much to help raise her.  Aphidwhisker (22) is a bit annoyed by Bluestripe’s attention.  She would much rather be spending time plotting against Dawnstar (109) and Boulderflood (41) with Pebbletuft (58).  But the drama in the Clan is not yet done.  Badgers seem to have a grudge against ElementClan, and yet another gang of badgers attack the camp.  Minnownudge (17) and Flailvalley (17) are on guard duty and are enjoying a moment of peace after the war.  Which is interrupted when a badger bursts out of the bushes and kills Minnownudge with a single bite.  Flailvalley freezes and doesn’t do anything as the badgers stream into the grotto.  Nettlestripe (94) sounds the alarm with a burst of flame, but is trampled to death as the badgers stream in.  However, his sacrifice and alarm gives Dawnstar a moment to rally his cats.  He assigns Burdockbeam (41) and Boulderflood to one half of the camp while he and Dapplemuzzle are on the other.  He doesn’t trust Aphidwhisker enough to tell her to do more than guard the healer’s den, and the injured Pebbletuft.  Meanwhile, Hollowminnow (26) and Mitemask (26) end up fighting next to each other.  Mitemask has a sudden sense of dread and tries to warn Hollowminnow about a surprise attack that was coming.  He ignores her and is severely injured.  Mitemask fights over her brother as best she can, but they both perish.  Meanwhile, Scorchhawk (17) and Mistytooth (17) go out to find their brother.  The camp needs his power.  However, a badger blocks their path and kills both of them.  Petalfrost (37) insists on fighting on his own, despite Peatfeather (37) urging him to work with his Clanmates.  But why would he, when they had never truly welcomed him?  He glares at ElementClan as a badger shakes him from its back, breaking his neck.  With so many cats injured or dead, Copperheart (41) takes it upon herself to do something responsible for a change and protect the elder’s den.  However, her lack of practice from her many days goofing off mean that she can’t defend it and both she and Cherviljumble (130) die.  On the other side of camp, Boulderflood and Burdockbeam are being pushed towards the Healer’s den.  Burdockbeam sees her sister and partner in crime fall from across the camp and is momentarily distracted.  It’s enough for a badger to kill her.  Boulderflood is left to mourn both her sisters and try to fend off two badgers at once.  Aphidwhisker watches from the Healer’s den.  She could kill both of the badgers with a touch.  But. . .she glances at Pebbletuft, who shakes her head.  She chooses to do nothing and watches as Boulderflood is slaughtered.  However, a badger surprises her and tosses her aside, killing Pebbletuft.  In the clearing, fighting alongside Bluestripe and Dawnstar, Dapplemuzzle gets tired of watching her clanmates fall.  And of watching her sister do nothing to help.  When a badger pins Peatfeather, she snaps.  She lashes out with her magic and fells three badgers, giving her clanmates a chance to gain the upper hand and officially proving herself.  The day is won, but at the cost of twelve lives. And both of the Clan’s star-blessed cats.  Graysong’s omen about lights being extinguished has come true.

Hatchswipe (70) is distraught at the loss of all three of her sister’s kits.  Her last ties to her littermates are gone.  She tries to hold onto their scents for as long as she can, but even those fade.  Kestrelcreek (114) is shaken by yet another mass death in her Clan.  She, Bluestripe, and Dawnstar are the only cats left of their generation.  She feels so old. Aries notices that her Clan is hurting, but isn’t sure how to help.  She goes on a long walk to try and make sense of her thoughts.  Hatchswipe also spends some time with Hopcurl’s (43) surviving kit.  Flailvalley has just lost all of his littermates.  She’s glad to have a clanmate as kind and considerate as him.  While no living cat knows the extent of Aphidwhisker’s actions (well, inactions), the death of her former apprentice is not a good sign.  Bumble feels like Dawnstar should be doing more to build up the Clan.

Moon 323-Leaf-bare

The Clan has had good luck with making it through leaf-bare with so few herbs.  But the only working healer, Pebbletuft (56), is grabbed and dropped by an eagle, breaking her leg.  Can the Clan make it through the last stretch of leaf-bare without losing cats?  Thankfully, Hopcurl (41) tossed a snake out of camp before it could bite anyone.  A snakebite would be a sure way to die in these conditions. Tanglechirp (70) is cranky over still being sick and takes it out on Aphidwhisker (20).  He snaps at his daughter when she bumps into him.  It’s an effort for her not to use her powers on him in annoyance. It’s chilly out, and Nettlestripe (92) and Longpelt (37) huddle together, using their fire magic to keep themselves warm.  Petalfrost (35) is also grateful for Longpelt being willing to share her warmth.  He thinks of her as his best friend.  Mitemask (24) has been struggling to connect with her mom, and isn’t very close with Hollowminnow (24)  anymore.  But this moon, she and Kestrelcreek (112) get along better.  Yay!  Even though relations with the other Clans are good, for now, Flailvalley wants to keep his skills sharp and spars with Boulderflood (39).  It’s useful to know how to fight against cats with any power set.  Except dark-cursed ones, but there's not much any cat can do to combat their death touch.  Cherviljumble (128) is acutely aware of being the oldest cat in the Clan.  And she’s not even that old!  So many cats in ElementClan die young.  Too many.  She’s lucky to have made it this far, and likely only did because she joined the Clan when she was already older (91 moons).  Embershell (41) is feeling a little trapped in the Clan.  She doesn’t have anything keeping her there (aside from her littermate) and is daydreaming about all there must be to see outside of the mountains.

Moon 322-Leaf-bare

Minnowpaw (14) has finally been made a warrior!  She is given the name of Minnownudge in honor of her intelligence.  Hopcurl (40) is proud of xer last kit to become a warrior, but worries that she’s grown too cold and distant from her siblings.  What happened to xer sweet little girl?  Dawnstar (106) seems to be encouraging the pranksters in the Clan and heckles ChaffinchClan with Burdockbeam (38) at a gathering.  He’s. . .not very mature for a leader, is he?  At least he seeks out wisdom from Cherviljumble (127).  She’s survived a few more harsh leaf-bares than he has.  Anyways, Burdockbeam’s latest pranks include: not telling Croucheye (33) about the feather stuck to her face and taking Tanglechirp’s (69) favorite nesting materials for herself.  Embershell (40) is out of the healer’s den, although she does take some time to chat with Pebbletuft and Flailvalley.  The two older cats really appreciate how hard Flailvalley’s been working lately.  Flailvalley (14) still enjoys going to visit the elder and curls up against Cherviljumble to help her combat the leaf-bare chill.  Meanwhile, Croucheye is a little wary of Pebbletuft (55).  She thinks the healer has been acting strangely lately.  That whole deathberry thing is still concerning. Peatfeather (34) is worried about Petalfrost (34).  He’s just not trying very hard to make friends in the Clan.  Aries (88) gives her advice and tells her to just be there for Petalfrost.  Being consistent is the best thing she can do.  Meanwhile, Petalfrost is developing a small crush on Mitemask (23).  And it looks like she reciprocates.  So, he’s not doing all that badly.  Croucheye watches as her younger sibling seem to constantly fight with each other.  She wishes that they would treasure what they have with each other.  She misses Rimepaw and wishes she were still there.  Along with Almondback and Brightmouse and Troutpaw.

Moon 321-Leaf-bare

It’s now leaf-bare.  The only herbs in the store are two rosemary.  Bumble (98) is injured, leaving Pebbletuft (54) as the only working healer.  Things are not looking great.  Mitemask (22) feels like this will be a bad leaf-bare.  Something in his bones is telling him the worst is yet to come.  Dawnstar (105) does his best not to worry though, and just focuses on fixing the things he can.  He stops by the healer’s den to make sure Bumble is eating.  And because he has whitecough. Dawnstar also thinks that Bluestripe (96) is the most beautiful cat in the Clan.  With Dawnstar sick, Bluestripe is taking on the job of caring for the Clan.  It’s exhausting.  She appreciates the effort that Primcrest put in now.  And Pebbletuft is gathering deathberries.  Because that’s the herb they need so desperately.  Nettlestripe sees her picking them and is a little unnerved. Sofanthiel (110), at least, is feeling better, and is spending some time with Flailvalley (13).  She’s impressed with the young warrior’s insight.  Embershell (39) is frustrated that she got frostbitten on a patrol.  She was so busy keeping her patrol-mate warm that she forgot to warm herself!  She vents to Aries (87) and feels better afterwards.  Nettlestripe (90) gave Kestrelcreek (110) a gift of kestrel feathers, but she doesn’t like them.  She doesn’t want anything in her pelt and tells him as much.  He feels like he understands her better now.  Petalfrost (33) had enjoyed working with Dapplemuzzle (18) to reinforce the camp for winter, but then he overheard her talking badly about him, and how much she hated working with him.  Hurtful.  Hollowminnow (22) also worked with Dapplemuzzle on adding water-proofing to the healer’s den.  They argued about how best to do it, with Dapplemuzzle thinking growing plants over it would be better than Hollowminnow’s idea of putting a shield of ice over it.  Mitemask ends up fixing it just by weaving in some new brambles.

Moon 319-Leaf-fall

With the lack of herbs and the severity of his wounds, the healers couldn’t do much for Cavecatcher (77).  Not even their earth magic could help him and he died from his mangled tail.  The Clan blames StumpyClan and negotiations go poorly at the Gathering.  Hopcurl (37) and Peatfeather (31) help bury Cavecatcher, as Cherviljumble’s (124) joints have been too sore to do much lately. As the war continues, Flailpaw (11) worries that he and his siblings are growing up too fast.  He’s been on the front lines pretty much his whole apprenticeship and he’s feeling worn down.  Meanwhile, his brother, Mistypaw (11) has been made a warrior with the name of Mistytooth in honor of his observance.  Hopcurl is proud of xer kit and knows that he’ll be able to make it through anything.  Mistytooth is less confident in himself.  Dawnstar (103) is proud of him, though, and wants to spend more time with him.  Nettlestripe (88) tried talking with Hopcurl about the war and was disappointed when all xey wanted to do was talk about how proud xey are of xer kits.  Boring.  Copperheart (35) and Hollowminnow (20) spend some time together, coming up with pranks.  Boulderflood (35) wishes the two of them would focus on using their minds for the war instead of silly antics.  Mitemask (20) agrees and the two of them bond over their annoying siblings. Aphidwhisker (16) and Hollowminnow spend some time talking with each other about how their apprentices are doing and find out that they have a lot in common.  Aphidwhisker shows off a bit of dark-cursed magic, draining a small plant and then regrowing it with her earth powers.  Hollowminnow is impressed.  Flailpaw tries to ask Aphidwhisker for some help, but she turns him away.  She’s far too busy showing off her magic.  Oh, and training Scorchpaw (11).  While Boulderflood might disagree, Burdockbeam (35) feels like her shenanigans lighten the mood in camp.  Dapplemuzzle can’t help but feel like the worst of the war is yet to come.  In the Dark Forest, Yuccawillow lashes her tail while thinking about Dawnstar.  He’s Primcrest’s son.  If he suffers, she may suffer in StarClan.

Moon 318-Leaf-fall

FurledClan hasn’t struck back against ElementClan.  Directly.  But. . .an abnormally strong windstorm hit the caverns and blew away all of the herbs.  FurledClan is known for having powerful wind-blessed cats.  Bumble (95) and Pebbletuft (51) are. . .a little worried, to say the least, especially after Cinderblockpuddle (237) dies from head damage.  The Clan is a little shaken by his loss, but they knew he wouldn’t be around for long.  The healers are more worried about Cavecatcher (76), who’s infected tail is not looking great.  And they don’t have the herbs to treat it.  Bluestripe (93) knows that Flailpaw (10) is under a lot of pressure right now and comforts him while picking burrs out of his pelt.  She makes sure he understands that it’s important for him to keep up in his training, though.  Later, as they’re curled up in Bluestripe’s nest, Tanglechirp (65) tells her that he doesn’t think that Flailpaw is being completely honest about how hard he’s working.  While Croucheye (29) may not be a fan of Mistypaw (10), her apprentice, she’s glad that at least Minnowpaw (10) isn’t her apprentice.  The young cat’s constant fretting is annoying.  Dapplemuzzle (15) is impatient to get to fight in a battle and prove herself.  She’s jealous that Mitemask got to fight in a border skirmish when she didn’t.  Mitemask (19) notices that she’s upset and wants to talk with her.  Dapplemuzzle ignores her.
