Spooky Selbu Mittens

These color work mittens turned out beautifully but too small. The mistake was my own. I’d love to reknit this pattern someday. I used Knit Picks Palette yarn for this project.

My latest mittens. I'm super pleased with these and will be making like nine more pairs in different colours. They're based on a pair pictured but not charted in Anne Bårdsgård's book on Selbu Mittens.

You know the knitting pattern is going to be good when it comes from a crusty early 2000s website, has one blurry picture showing the finished piece, and says you don't have to do a gauge swatch, and instead you should experiment with different needle sizes

After several hours of pondering (and decidedly not doing any actual research on) how best to apply a layer of suri to the inside of my mittens without going insane (crochet slip stitch columns-no. duplicate stitch-extra no. weaving?-nooo) I came up with this

Enhance!

Used a teeny crochet hook to pick up stitches on the inside--just in the knit columns so it wouldn't show through-- and then doubling on the next round. Now I'm winging it, doing 1x1 ribbing and catching stitches to attach it every few rounds. The laddering at the sides is absolutely atrocious but it's gonna be on the inside so I don't care. Decreases will happen at some point shrug emoji

I Scream Mittens

Greetings! oh my goodness my I Scream Socks Mittens turned out really cute. I am so happy that I was willing to try a new route.

Needles – US 1/2.25 mm & US 2/2.7 mm

Method – magic loop

Yarn – Bare Knit Picks Stroll Fingering Weight

Dyed with – Jaquard Acid Dyes & Earl Grey Tea

Amount of Yarn Used – 42 grams

Recipient – daughter

Size – 64 sts

Notes/Modifications – I modified them into mittens by adding in a variation of the iphone mitts pattern
