Last Monday of the Week 2024-09-16
It's Autumn
This is late because turns out there's not really a polite way to finish tapping out your Mondaypost when someone else is already in your bed.
Tumblr media
Listening: a recommendation from the Topic Lords podcast, Ancient Sword Cult by Writhen Hilt. It's about swords!
Epic fantasy metal is a tremendously funny genre.
Watching: Watched Saloum with @thosearentcrimes because we heard it on Kill James Bond and both went "that sounds cool as hell" and it was!
Another great addition to the group of films where guys turn to the camera and go "Hey does anyone else feel doomed."
This is a really tense and well put together crime drama, some top-tier monologues and characters who are going all out. Very much worth watching without looking up too much about it I think.
Reading: Started A Desolation Called Peace a few days ago. Three Seagrass! She's so clueless! Man my girlfriend is so cool it's a shame she's not a complete person.
Having read Memory, then all of The Masquerade, and now Desolation, I think this gives me an interesting look at what I like and don't like about each series. Teixcalaan doesn't spend so much time obsessing over little world details, instead building a culture and atmosphere of empire that I really enjoy. The Masquerade is more on the ground which has benefits, but it's somewhat artificial feeling. It's at its best in the very personal moments around Baru and the other cryptarchs.
Still getting through Desolation though.
Playing: Mine Craft. I've been fiddling with some mods like Distant Horizons which does low-res renders of the world out way further than the stock game. I always get back into Minecraft for like three weeks and then put it down for another year. I have a whole lot of thinking done on how the game design of Minecraft is very cleverly pushing on different kinds of players
Making: Printing again for the first time in a while, more home objects. Finally have an excuse to get dozens of tiny neodymium magnets!
Tools and Equipment: I got a new-ish oscilloscope! Proper digital one too, Hantek DSO2D10. It has one feature I consider a nice-to-have and one feature I consider essential for cramped home lab use.
The essential feature is a built-in signal generator. Sure, it can only do a couple dozen MHz cleanly and "cleanly" is being generous there, but for like a $50 premium over a similar non-generator scope you get a single channel generator with arbitrary waveform capabilities, very handy. Saves a lot of space and makes you more likely to actually use the damn thing.
The nice-to-have is built-in logic analyzer features. Yes, a digital logic analyzer will do this better and cheaper, and yes, you could even just dump the waveform and analyze it on a computer, but being able to poke around on a board and just hit "tell me what I'm looking at here" on a random bitstream is tremendously valuable for speed and comfort.
The DSO series is pretty cheap, they're no Tektronix or Keysight, but they're a damn side better than pure analogue, having used pure analogue for a long time. Just skip it, storage and maths functions are so worth it.

first floor of my basement... yippee. lighting is still a bit off because i need glowstone to finish it. second level will have my nether portal, a automatic sheep shearing farm and some chickens to collect eggs.
[image description: a trio of screenshots from the game minecraft, all perspectives of the same basement build. the first is zoomed out and contains the entire build, the second and third and focusing on the different sides. there is a ladder going up to the entrance, with the entry sourrounded by stone bricks. stone bricks create a path going down the center of the build to the ladder that leads to floor two. they also outline the first row of the floor and ceiling. the floor and ceiling between the stone bricks is oak planks. the walls are polished andesite for the first row and spruce planks between them, they are modded and look more like small bricks than the vanilla planks texture. one wall is entirely covered by a automatic sugarcane farm made up of spruce logs and dark oak planks. there is a painting of a tree with pink leaves on the wall opposite it. the other wall contains a red bed sitting ontop of a bunk-bed like structure made of dark oak planks. underneath it is a stonecutter, smithing table, juke box, and a single chest. next to it is a space for smokers, furnaces, and blast furnaces, with a brewing stand ontop of a crafting table set into the wall as well. there is a painting of a wither rose in grassy hills. the final part of the build is a small aquarium made up of the various prismarine blocks, with glass showing the inside. the aquarium floor is sand and is dotted with seagrass, kelp, and various colors of coral. it is full of modded, brightly colored fish. end ID]

༉‧₊˚.Headcanons for a Dragon Pearlescent Moon, with coral-like horns and dragon wings༉‧₊˚.
-Your kingdom had way more rivers, ponds, and lakes than most of the other kingdoms. Even if you were far from the ocean, you'd still bring over coral, seagrass, and a bunch of sea life to your area, and it made your kingdom that much more lively!
-Because it was so convenient to fly or swim places, you barely got a chance to walk around. Every now and then where you had time to spare you'd walk around your kingdom. Even if you knew the place like the back of your hand, you always looked forward to taking those walks.
-It would rain a ton in your kingdom, wether it be to ground yourself, or just for the heck of it, sometimes you'd fly onto a roof, or really high up in the sky and just let the rain fall around you, and it was super comforting.
-Sometimes if you were swimming, fish would swim around you! (Some tropical fish really like coral, and probably mistook your horns for it! Or maybe fish just really loved you, who knows)
-You and Lizzie ended up spending a lot of time together in her Kingdom!
-You absolutely loved her axolotls, eventually she let you take one home with you! You made an entire area for them.
-A lot of people on the server had never used elytra before, but once they got theirs you were able to help teach them how to fly, since you were already quite good at it!
Thank you so much for requesting! I hope these helped ^^

Dear Trick or Treat Author
Hi! Thank you for writing for me! I’m reconditarmonia here and on AO3. I have anon messaging off, but mods can contact me if you have any questions.
The Locked Tomb | Motherland: Fort Salem | Sleep No More | Teixcalaan
General likes:
– Relationships that aren’t built on romance or attraction. They can be romantic or sexual as well, but my favorite ships are all ones where it would still be interesting or compelling if the romantic component never materialized.
– Loyalty kink! Trust, affectionate or loving use of titles, gestures of loyalty, replacing one’s situational or ethical judgment with someone else’s, risking oneself (physically or otherwise) for someone else, not doing so on their orders. Can be commander-subordinate or comrades-in-arms.
– Heists, or other stories where there’s a lot of planning and then we see how the plan goes.
– Femslash, complicated or intense relationships between women, and female-centric gen. Women doing “male” stuff (possibly while crossdressing).
– Stories whose emotional climax or resolution isn’t the sex scene, if there is one.
– Uniforms/costumes/clothing.
– Stories, history, and performance. What gets told and how, what doesn’t get told or written down, behavior in a society where everyone’s consuming media and aware of its tropes, how people create their personas and script their own lines.
Smut Likes: clothing, uniforms, sexual tension, breasts, manual sex, cunnilingus, grinding, informal d/s elements, intensity.
General DNW: rape/dubcon, torture, other creative gore; unrequested AUs, including “same setting, different rules” AUs such as soulmates/soulbonds; PWP; food sex; embarrassment; focus on pregnancy; Christmas/Christian themes; infidelity; unrequested polyamory; focus on unrequested canon or non-canon ships; unrequested trans versions of characters; breakups; focus on grief; unequal levels of investment in a relationship (including concerns about same that turn out to be unwarranted), or the idea of a character accepting something they're unhappy with as the most they're going to get.
I am requesting only fic, but open to art treats!
Fandom: The Locked Tomb Trilogy - Tamsyn Muir (Treat, Trick)
Character(s): Matthias Nonius
Nonius was one of my favorite new characters in Harrow the Ninth. His whole impossible arrival via evocation-by-poetry, battle with the Sleeper, and epic departure to fight the Beast made me very, very happy on levels I have trouble explaining. It was so heartwarming?! Because it was impossible, and because poetry won, and because they went off to do the best they could…I don’t know, exactly. (Iiiii also just love that he’s named for the Redwall mouse.) I’d love to read more about his life - being unprepossessing and very human but also paladin-like and really fucking good at being a swordsman, representing the Ninth House in slightly less decrepit times, his mysterious past with Gideon the First (and Pyrrha, sort of), however it happened that he died far from home in an unknown place and couldn’t be recovered for burial, “chickenshits don’t get beer”? Or, er, his afterlife - going to fight with Marta, Ortus, and Pro, re-encountering G1deon as allies…
Fandom: Motherland: Fort Salem (TV) (Treat, Trick)
Character(s): First Bellweather Ancestor, Original Historical Witch Character(s)
The alternate history that the show has created is so interesting and I’m craving expansion of that through fic! Tell me about the Bellweather ancestor who was a slave and ended up powerful and influential enough to begin a dynasty, and how she met and was recruited by Alder. Or other enslaved witches, witches in the American Revolution or the Civil War, or the founding of Fort Salem and standardization of American military magic with its various influences, or Chinese or Jewish or Mexican immigrant witches who maybe came from different magic traditions and might have had to make the choice of whether or not to reveal that they had magic (if the system knows you because of your descent in the country?), serving their country but also binding their daughters and granddaughters forever.
Not that there's any need to include present-day characters as a frame story, but on the off chance you do, I do ship Abigail/Raelle, with Abigail/Adil as a particular NOTP and Raelle/Scylla as kind of a soft NOTP.
Fandom-Specific DNW: I didn't enjoy the overt eugenics plotline this season and would prefer that nothing about breeding witches for stronger magic or particular traits (as opposed to any social reasons for arranged marriage and high society matching) be present in the fic.
Fandom: Sleep No More (Treat, Trick)
Character(s): Bald Witch, Sexy Witch
One of my favorite things about Sleep No More was the idea of this world of darkness and magic that’s underlying or intertwined with the social world, rather than in a separate space - I loved seeing the Witches at the ball and, holy shit, Bald Witch pulling off her wig after the ball in her solo ritual thing! (I hadn’t realized it was a wig until that moment.) So -
how do either of these witches interact with the normal world (Paisley/the hotel/etc.) or deliberately carve out other spaces (like the apothecary shop)? For that matter, I love the apothecary shop and Bald Witch's scene in it so more about that would be awesome.
How did the Witches find each other - before or after they were witches?
Are they immortal, and if so, what’s that like for them?
How much do they have a day-to-day life vs. witching all the time?
If you want to ship them together, and/or with Hecate (or both) I’m very up for that as well. Some sexy prompts if you go in that direction -
ritual sex magic to make something happen or share power?
If they have non-witch personas and sleep together while they’re being normal people, is there still magic?
Sex in one of the play locations - the apothecary, the ballroom, the bar that’s the empty shell of the real bar?
Slow dancing nude, or another inverted version of something in the normal world?
Fandom-Specific DNW: f/m ships with requested characters
Fandom: Teixcalaan - Arkady Martine (Treat)
Character(s): Three Seagrass, Twelve Azalea, Twenty Cicada
I found these characters delightful, and I would love to see any of them in some slice of life that tells us more about the City and Empire worldbuilding. Honestly I would probably read an entire novel about Reed and Petal in college doing absolutely nothing (to be clear, the fic doesn't need to include both) - what are some other things they do for fun, or places they like to go? Shit they accidentally got involved in in school or while working in the Ministry? (A scene is fine, I know the exchange has a 300 word minimum and am not trying to box you into writing a whole plot.) And on the flip side, Swarm's entire existence as the Teixcalaanli officer par excellence, the loyal adjutant, who's also a very visible minority doing minority things is really interesting to me. What are some other practices in the homeostat-cult and how does he manage to do them in his job? (Or Teixcalaanli things he doesn't do?) More about how he feels about being a part of Teixcalaan?
Fandom-Specific DNW: Swarm's canon fate makes me sad so I wouldn't want fic about it.

Mod @thebrackishtank
So I saw a neat post under the fishblr tag to talk about your tanks (link here... no worries, I’ll reblog it for ease!) that I thought looked like lots of fun. But I love talking about myself - you can tell this because I’m on the internet - so I figured why not! A little bit about me and the tank below the cut.
Hi everybody! This is @thebrackishtank / @thenativetank / @brambleforest. My name though is Joel, I’m in my early 30′s now (yikes! I was 22 when I joined Tumblr) and have been the moderator at @fishcommunity for about 4 years now.
- Current date: April 21, 2020
- Aquarium Age: About 11 months, it was the first thing I set up when I bought this house!
- Aquarium size:125 gallons.
- Aquarium inhabitants:
--- 3 Scats (Selena and Itty Bitty are Silver Scats, Verde is the Green Scat)
--- 1 Green Spotted Puffer (Scooty Puff is a darling! Never once bit a tankmate)
--- 1 Knight Goby (Goby-Wan... he’s a Jedi Knight... er... Goby)
--- 1 Freshwater Demoiselle (Greg)
--- 8 Orange Chromides
--- 2 Zebra Nerite Snails
- Substrate (sand, gravel, Eco Complete, etc.): Approximately 90% pool filter sand, 10% aragonite.
- Hardscape (nonliving decorations): Lava Rock, Oyster Shells, and one piece of driftwood I couldn’t part with :-P
- Plants: None! Brackish plants are not hard to come by, but ones that survive 1.006 specific gravity AND are unpalatable to Scats is a hard combo to find. So everything in here is plastic and still looks fine to me!
- Light: Just some cheapo LEDs. I just needed white light, no need for fancy wavelength/intensity levels.
- Filter: A Fluval 406 Canister Filter on one end, and a cheapo internal, air powered box filter on the other end. Why include that? Water movement is the key to combating Blue-Green Algae - it thrives in stagnant water. One year in, and no BGA to speak of :)
- CO2? (yes or no): Naw, no need. Maybe if I did some seagrasses, but I’d need so much more substrate if I was going to do that.
- Fertilizers: The fish make plenty :-P
- Food: I have a variety of dried and frozen foods I add in... brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, Emerald Entree, Tilapia chunks, Hikari sinking wafers, freeze dried krill, nori strips, and a few types of Bug Bites foods for the cichlids.
- Water Changes: Typically weekly, usually on the order of 40-50 gallons.

Sea Merge! Fish Games in Aquarium & Ocean Puzzle Mod 1.8.2 Apk [Unlimited Money]
Tumblr media
Sea Merge 1.8.2 Mod Apk – Arcade game – Interesting ocean fish hobby Android Normal version + Mod version (unlimited money) individually tested with offline run
Sea Merge – Ocean FishIs the title of a game in the hobby genre published by Rodan mobile Kft game development studio for Android devices. From the very beginning, when you enter Sea Merge, you can see the similarity of this game with Finding Nemo. Nemo is one of the Disney characters that first appeared in the movie industry with the animation Finding Nemo, and then, like many other games, it found its way into the game industry. After Finding Nemo, many game studios tried to use this theme to make their own new games, and Sea Merge is exactly one of those games. Of course, this is not a weakness for Sea Merge. The gameplay of this game is completely different from the gameplay of Finding Nemo. Evil fish, led by octopuses, have apparently invaded the ocean floor, home to goldfish, and sabotaged everything with their black inks. Now you, as one of the last members of the fighting groups, have the task of rebuilding the ocean floor so that you can create a safe place for the remaining goldfish to live. To do this, you must perform different tasks at each stage. These tasks are told to you in the form of a text box, and in almost all of them you have to try to create new items by combining different elements and solve puzzles with them. For example, you can combine seaweed to create 2 or 3 seagrass plants and clear the ocean floor. Now you, as one of the last members of the fighting groups, have the task of rebuilding the ocean floor so that you can create a safe place for the remaining goldfish to live.

A Sun-Warmed Love
(1.8k, fluff, mod seagrass)
Anyways, it doesn’t matter. He’s just here for the warmth and the safe space where nobody bothers him. Not the cats. Definitely not the cats. [an evilxisuma/Z centered fic where he finally gets to be happy.]
tw: cursing
He’s not sure when it started, really.
He’s noticed a lot of other hermits on the server have pets—some have dogs, some have cats (some have too many cats, Cleo, he’s looking at you), and some have the odd parrot or other tamable mob. It’s nice, sometimes, to go over and visit them, he guesses. Better than doing nothing with his time.
But it doesn’t matter. It’s just to occupy his time. Just something to keep him not bored out of his fucking mind, he tells himself day after day.
He repeats it as he finds himself at Scar’s place more and more often, hanging around his weird base or lounging about in little magma-water-heated alcoves in the cave or especially, in his Room O’ Cats.
It’s so weirdly mesmerizing to stay there, just perched on a little block of wood that he’s got on a high place and watch the cats run around and over their own feet. They meow, he throws them some more salmon, they meow for some more, he meows back in a more angry tone and feels fucking stupid. Rinse and repeat.
Scar drops by sometimes, re-fills the salmon chest, says hi to him and then goes to do whatever kinda world-destroying terraforming he’s going to do next. Probably going to destroy an entire ecosystem for a palm tree, or whatever he does in his spare time.
At least he gets to use the catroom.
It’s really nice in there, he’s loath to admit. There’s a little room out of the way with glass windows and smooth stones that heats up in the winter and stays cool in the summer, where the cats love to take naps. He’ll never admit it, but sometimes when he’s overwhelmed he’ll take refuge in there with a cat curled up on his lap and snooze the day away.
Ah, to live life as a cat. No worries, except getting salmon. Must be a nice life.
Anyways, it doesn’t matter. He’s just here for the warmth and the safe space where nobody bothers him. Not the cats. Definitely not the cats.
Xisuma eventually finds him, when he’s taking one of his Designated Nap Days, and he’s very angry about being disturbed. “Woah, didn’t expect to find you—”
“Just want you to explain one thing. Just one little thing.” He’s angry now. He’d been looking towards his—HIS NAP TIME, not his cat time, thank you very much, and Xisuma had somehow found him out.
“Uh, yeah, what did you—”
“Why the hell are you here? Disturbing my Specific Time For Sleep? Just curious,” he says. He hears a hiss from below, looks at the cat he’s petting perhaps a little too hard, and forces himself to relax his tension. It helps him feel better, maybe, in a weird way.
“Just wanted some coral Z, no harm meant. Although, I didn’t know you liked cats…” Xisuma trails off. Probably just realized the dozen or so cats who were staring at him hungrily, smelling the salt of the sea still on his skin and by extent, fish. “Y’know what? Think I might leave you to it. Take off for the day. Exit the premises. Vacate the—”
Xisuma leaves in a dash, trying not to further anger the cats. Z laughs, anger almost completely dissipated. “Hey, kitties, don’t take it too hard,” he calls out, tossing another one onto a dish for them to tear apart. One small grey one creeps up to him, licking around his hands for anything it might’ve missed. He holds up his hands in surrender. “Nope—nothing. Too bad for you.”
That’s when it decides to sit down between his legs and stare at him like that might magically make the fish appear. “Cat, no,” he chuckles. The sun’s pleasantly warm on his skin. He kinda feels like one of those cats stretched out in a puddle himself.
“Not gonna give you any. Don’t fuck with me.” It still stares at him.
“You don’t understand the English language, do you? Don’t have a quite firm enough grasp of the Queen’s English?” He smiles. It’s nice to talk to something that can’t really understand nor really wants to.
Z lets out a steady stream of how he’s been doing, how other hermit’s bases are going, how much he hates the sheer Ugly of this one makeshift build that Wels had made because, really, he understood it was makeshift but couldn’t he at least put in the effort to make it look nice? Just a little?
He lets all of the casual small talk he’d wanted to make for so long but didn’t know how to spill out to the cat still sitting patiently between his legs. It’s blinking slowly at him, and the setting sun is golden and warm and kinda lovely out the window, and the whole room seems to be relaxing and sinking down into a kind of subliminal space.
His voices trails off, his hand stops petting, and the cat has long since curled up at his side against the wall.
In other words, he’s fast asleep.
Z wakes up the next morning in a slow, steady kind of way—quite unusual for him. He’s wondering why he doesn’t feel his bed beneath him, when he scans his surroundings and realizes—Oh. He’s not at his bed.
Son of a bitch, he’s fallen asleep in the cat room. And Scar’s standing in front of him, chuckling. “So, got a good rest in there?” he says.
“So what if I have?” It’s unnecessarily defiant, probably, and he knows that but he’s been caught sleeping in the cat room. His dignity was on the fucking floor. Oh, the horror.
“Not anything against you, just asking: did you want to take Boo with you? The one cuddled against you? She’s a sweetheart, and I think she likes you, and also I have too many cats. Please.”
Z scrambles for words. “I—uh—what—”
“Cat or no cat, Z?”
~
In his defense, he was panicking at the time. Also, he did not make good decisions when he was panicked. Two very important factors, he thought, that led up to him doing two things:
1. Teleporting away with the cat still snoozing in his arms, and
2. Avoiding Scar for the next couple weeks. Which unfortunately meant no Cat Room.
He’d panicked, and now he had a cat in his little base with no way to feed it or take care of it.
Fuck.
Cats liked salmon, he knew. So he asked around, borrowed a fishing rod, and spent hours fishing to nab some fish. Turns out that he could get some pretty decent fish when he focused, he thought. Luckily enough, the cat seemed pretty happy with whatever fish he managed to catch—although, he did notice an odd preference for just straight up stealing his apples from his hand and nibbling on them just enough that it was annoying. (Or endearing. He didn’t quite know.)
He got a nicer bed for the cat than his own, grabbed some wool from Joe, talked to him (which he didn’t really want to do but was a necessary evil and, as it turns out, not so bad after all), and it turned out the damn cat liked his bed better anyways. Whatever.
Z got the cat some nicer toys, some new contraptions to mess around with. He contacted Mumbo for some help with it, and Mumbo rushed to the tiny little base like hell was on his heels. He then proceeded to spend the next hour cooing over the cat who was soaking it up like a sponge. Annoying, to be sure, but he was helpful and the cat seemed to like him so Z let it slide.
And throughout all this, he avoided Scar like the plague.
And of course, when he least expected it, he saw him.
“How’s Boo treating you? She’s being a well-behaved girl?” Scar said, nodding to him from across the shopping district where he was doing some weird stuff involving floating water blocks and gray crumbling plants.
“What? She’s not my—I don’t—Boo’s not my cat!” Z sputtered. This was why he had avoided Scar, he thought, to avoid the embarrassment.
“You sure? She seems to like you, and you seem to like her as well, don’t you?”
“I mean, she’s a cute cat, but I shouldn't be in charge of a cat! I don’t even like them that much—Wha—WHERE’D YOU COME FROM?” Z cried out. For Boo herself, the demon of a cat, was twining around his ankles and mewing for food.
“See, she likes you!” Scar laughed. Sounded a little messed up, but. A Laugh.
Z hopped from ankle to ankle, shifting his weight in the hopes that Boo—no, the CAT—would leave. She just purred more determinedly. “No, she likes my food.”
“Well, if you’re that determined not to admit it…Godspeed, friend. May you rest in peace.” Scar gave him a mock salute and spun back around, but not before adding one last comment. “Oh, also, bring her by again to the Cat Room! Her siblings miss her.”
“What—SHE’S NOT MY CAT!” Z called to his retreating form. “I—Fuck.”
He looked down. “Cat, why must you make my life a living hell.” She just meowed.
“Oh, alright. I’ll grab you some food. Hold up,” he sighed.
It’s about two months later, and he’s pretty sure he’s got a cat now. She follows him everywhere, meows at him constantly, and sleeps next to him.
It’s surprisingly…not that bad. She keeps him company when he’s lonely, lets him rant to her without a word, and demands love and attention in the way only cats can. It’s kinda nice to have something like that.
It’s still annoying, yeah, but Z’s starting to think it’s edging on the side of endearing now.
Her fur’s super soft, probably from all the brushing, and if she were a person, her dating profile would probably say “likes to take warm naps in the sun.” They’ve been stealing away into Scar’s Cat Room together sometimes now, to visit her siblings and to take a nap every now and then. It’s starting to form a new kind of normalcy in his life that he’s actually kinda liking.
The only truly frustrating part is her name.
She won’t respond to anything else besides Boo. It’s like she’s been goddamn trained, despite the fact that she’s a cat. He’s been trying out name over name, trying to find something cool that sticks, to no avail.
“Enderman?” No meow.
“Blade?” No meow.
“Slasher?” No meow.
“Ghast?” No meow.
“...Boo?” Furious meowing. He begs for mercy to whatever heavenly beast cursed him with a grey cat that only responded to Boo.
Better than no cat, he reasons. Better a sweet, cuddly, talkative, soft cat than no cat.
