I was playing a hidden level in Frogger: the Great Quest but then @ sleepysoul DM’d me to ask what my newest video was about cause she was weirded out by it, and i went to my youtube channel to find this bizarre video about crab-catching, which slowly descended into this video showing bizarre and cosmic horrors. For some reason i thought i uploaded it and tried to defend the video, but i could not explain it

50 or so hours into Cyberpunk 2077

This should be roughly the correct amount of time, ive been leaving the game running as I get up to get food or do stretches. Quests are roughly in order I did them

non spoilers above cut:

i haven't found a single hat/helmet i like, and since you can't hide them I just am not wearing any. It matters that much.

I posted the other day about bugs, every few hours I play I find new bugs. some require me to go back and reload a save others I honestly can’t tell if it’s a bug or just really poor development

there are several perks that don’t quite do what the description says, like the Anamesis perk. Based on reddit and trying it out it seems to just not do anything.

sometimes in car chase segments the passenger will say “look out” as cars spawn in my path and hit me. Can’t tell if that was deliberate or a pop in issue

Yeah I’ve just totally given up on doing pacifist things unless required by a mission. Given up on doing stealth too unless a mission objective, except for sneaking around to set up a fight.

the delemain car quest is fun. From the shock of the one going "beep beep motherfucker" and doing a hit and run to start it off, to the GLADOS car i see a lot of people talking about. It was fun to explore the city when i might have missed places like the landfill apparently there is follow up on T-bug's death if you go back to the quick hack shop in Kabuki. It's not much but better than nothing I made the pass with Panam of "what if the room just had one bed". I know she won't do a wlw romance, which is fine since I wouldn’t have chosen her. I enjoy her as a character, don’t get me wrong, my V considers her as a friend, but it seems like theres always drama going on which would be tiring. I would have gone for a fling, i like her leotard-pants combo with all the straps

but also her questline was buggy as hell. Multiple cases of having to reload due to clipping into objects, including her in a driving section, or just insta-dying when collision physics with some rocks broke "your neural network can no longer function independantly of the chip" me slapping my desk: s y m b i o te!!! come on lets have some s y m b i o s i s

in the scene with hellman i really liked how Johnny moved around the room. It made him feel like he was really there. it was hard to follow the convo as I left the room, i would not have understood it without subtitles. But i guess Takemura fucking waterboarded hellman. :|

lol I hope the dialogue is different b/c i refuse to smoke for Johnny

i am level 18 and still can't beat the first opponents in the fist fighting quest. ffs

I looked up the romances options so I went to do the I fought the law quest as soon as i got it. ACAB, but like I literally just met River Ward 2 minutes ago, and I really like him. His earring and cyborg eye, his big fluffy coat. I'm definitely gonna sleep with him Ok i like how when River Ward is dealing with the tiger claws if you interject it leads to a fight. It goes better if you follow his instructions and let him deal with it. Seriously I enjoy that sometimes its good to not pick a dialogue choice.

during the red queen club part, there was no dialogue over the phone. So i reloaded a save and got myself spotted and attacked. Then River showed up to help me <3 and it was more enjoyable having him there. I honestly am not sure if him not going to the club level is bug or not.

then uuuuuugh the worst of irl police "cops are my family" from Detective Han. Again ACAB "FRATERNITY OF CITY COPS RESEMBLES A [Nomad] CLAN NOT AT ALL" ok a few minutes ago i was complaining about bugs, but the character modeling in this game is good (when they're there). You can see body posture, characters jiggle their legs when they are nervous. Like I though character A was just throwing a cigarette on the ground, but then character B flinches back; I realize Char A threw it at B as a fuck you

I'm honestly curious if "I fought the Law" quest will have any impact later on. My choices were that I thought there was more going on than Holt being the only person behind this (based on how complicated the main questline heist is, and keeping an eye on some of the in game news), and told him not to take it to internal affairs, and I loved his response of how he doesn't give a shit what we think, he's doing it anyway.

In the elevator to report in, Johnny said "this muck is deeper than you think, tell them nothing", so i just said that the case was complicated. anyway i love how much of a sarcastic asshole V is

I thought i was being nonlethal with the monk quest, but it seems i accidently killed someone. RIP, but thats kind of the problem with this game. Like when i do the non lethal cyberpychosis quests I equip my non lethal modded gun and hope for the est. I like how a go here kill things quest led to Charles the ripperdoc. He's getting all his parts from scav gang members so I felt obligated to take him out. I got a police bounty for it but w/e.

I merged the Delemain fragments with the whole. Guess he's the meta now. (Side note: some of my favorite rvb fanfic plots are Ai consiousness/memory merging with the humans, so I’m having fun with this game and look foward to introspective fanfic)

Honestly Jonny made some good points, the fragments didn't deserve to die; but also destroying the core and freeing the fragments, they couldn't really function alone.

I was able to rescue Saul fine with stealth. Using cameras and the synapse overload really made it easy. Can't use the sniper rifle reward b/c I don't have the stats for it, and while it has a silencer the fact that it's a ricochette weapon and not a shoot through walls weapons, makes it not as good imo; and theres a legendary one that is stats free for only 100k.

Lol made a pass again at Panam, and she immediately shut me down. I then did Mitch's quest and I love every time someone tells V they area good person.

I hacked the operation carpe noctem shard, and wow the corporations are using ai to make people have cyberpsychosis, or something like that. What a shocker /s, I've played Deus Ex HR before

lol driving through the unifinished interstate, past the fight from Panam's first quest I found a "batcave" with a very nice car, and a manifesto written by "muckman'. But here's my complaint about the loot, there is a legendary top, but it had 16 armor. My current top has 84 armor, like why would i switch?? then later i found a bunker with soviet spies in it. Wild

Doing River's second quest, love the timing of as soon as you ask, why are we breaking in, someone shows up to tell you he got kicked off the force. It's funny how Johnny comments how maybe River's into you, and V just doubts Johnny's words. Love how the first kid asks River if I'm his girlfriend. also wow like oof both the second parts of Judy and River's quest are SUPER fucked UP!! oof like i stopped doing first person mode on the braindances for those quests as soon as i could, just made me too uncomfortable seeing that in first person.

DRIVING IN THE GAME IS BAD! nowhere is it more apparent than the sinnerman quest, which took me 3 times to get the driving section done, as cars spawned out of nowhere to hit me. Then when you restart, there is a bunch of dialogue it doesn't let you fast forward through. The rest of the Sinnerman questline is interesting. My V took every option to tell the dude that he was messed up, and what he was doing was wrong. idk, I was surprised how much dialogue there was that let you buy into his whole "forgiveness thing" and how there wasn't any real dialogue to call him the fuck out, that in seeking forgiveness he continues to do harm both emotional to the mother of the man he killed, but also that he got the husband killed via cop. The later follow up quest, I told him that what he is doing is crazy, studio is just going to profit off this vid. Then I refused to join him prayer, and told him fuck no i wasn't going to hammer him to the cross, or even watch. Yes, the man is scared of dying, and the corporation is exploiting him, but he keeps creating burdens for others. I think the discussion on this quest will be interesting to read, it's definitely my own personal experience with religion coloring my view. Anyway back to a main quest, yeah i don't trust Placide, especially in that scene where he grabs my hand, then jacks in. I ran off to do most of the sidequests here and got some criticism from him. I do love how in the cinema the western movie switches to a mission brief as the netwatch agent talks. its a fun enviromental detail. I took the netwatch offer, i don't think he's being fully honest with me, but he didn't put a virus in my head. As I told Placide later, I didn't pick a side. I like how you can then talk with the agent, who is a fan of Western movies, b/c they show "a simpler time where all good guys carry badges" :eyeroll:, and then V recommends Unforgiven, which from the wiki summary goes against that theme.

Looks like the Voodoo boys all got killed by Netwatch, but I as revenge for them trying to set me up I'm fine with it. Honestly after speaking with ai!Alt I don’t believe their plan of trying to be on good relations with AI would work.

doing the johnny flashback 2, and wow Johnny really is an asshole. Like I had gotten so used to him in side missions I forgot how self centered and unlikable he was.You constantly get prompts to drink or do drugs, which I ignored. But i do love the goth/punk love Rogue and others have.

lol i called it, when Hellman said that the engram would seek to override the host, put V on the engram. I really like how as the relic malfunctions, you wind up in the chair with a cigarette, which you can either smoke and say you are turning into Johnny or throw away. My dialogue "your problem is the ends justify the means", which is true!!! He and Rogue detonated a nuke downtown, does anyone know that, and like ask Rogue about it????

(Funny you can ask Rouge about Johnny silverhand, over the phone, then the game bugs out and spawns her npc where you are. She doens't say much about the nuke, but she does say no one trusts you for jobs). The line of no one trusting you for jobs is pretty funny at level 46 street cred where im at “respected” status. really loving the family atmosphere at River's 3rd quest. Also his big strong arms, and the fact he is no longer a cop. I totally let the kids win, and wow the family dinner where they GRILL YOU over the relationship and try to set the two of you up, then the water tower scene!!!!! I don't love the first person sex cutscenes but they do have personality. I'm glad afterwards you got to tell River about the biochip and that you might die. Because he's so far removed from your personal plot. So I took that option to back out of a relationship.

I do love that you wake up with "river's tanktop" that says "fuck the police" It actually has extremely good armor stats, so thats what I'll wear now.

panam 3rd quest, when shes like why did you help me, I'm like "because it's important to you". Basically the closest you can get to "when a friend asks for help you help them", which as an ex-nomad backstory I really choose the nomad options when ever i can Paralezes quest part 2! I love the piano song but I always think of it as ocean's 11 music. It's also fun to see the computer and see Judy recommended you for the first quest. The emails talk about "forgetting" to hire a staffer, on the balocony a strange antennia was scannable, the color of the roses was remembered wrong... lol guess i was right with those giant wall screens. Its fun environmental details that spell things out before you can notice, and it ties into some other quests where people's behavior is being altered. Actually, this quest "Dream On" I love it! For a while I've been like "wheres the illuminati conspiracy! Here it IS! I chose to follow Elisabeth's wishes and not tell her husband he was being brainwashed. In best case they program him to forget again, in worst case he ends up dead. The gaslighting Elisabeth described is CHILLING, her husband describes a vacation she can't remember and she doesn't know whose memories have been messed with. On your way to the plaza you get a call from someone/something that says the know exactly WHAT you are, any you black out!!! It's such a great feeling of helplessness that you're just one person in a world so big that you can't fight every power. As Johnny said, could be a corporation, could be a rogue ai, either way Jefferson is fucked (and so are you).

So, let me tell you... this AWESOME mod, the Broadcaster is a dream come true for me. XD I can finally have music from all the other Sims games right in my beloved Sims 3 game. ^^ But, hey--try it out for yourself. XD What I did, however, was not put all the music from each game into my game. I took the ones I really, really, really liked, or were just too unique, and made them into new radio stations. So far, I have only music from Sims 1, Sims 2, and Sims 3, plus console games. I haven't added any TSM in... not sure if I will or not though. It depends on if I like any of the music well enough to add a new station. Perhaps like a pirate station or something for my thieving-pirates, lol. COLONY 22′S 2ND ANNUAL APPRECIATION AWARDS

Oh, how much could change in a year.

Alex Donovan remembered last year, as disinclined as he’d been to agree to be one of the three hosts for the night, how he’d watched the frantic decorating committee’ and thought: well at least I’m not one of those unfortunate fools.

And this year, well—he was very nearly one of those unfortunate fools. He wouldn’t go so far as to say he was one of a ‘committee’, but he’d been helping bring out boxes to the decorating team all ever-loving day, and several hours ago they’d begun asking his opinion on things and he’d declined to answer at first. But somehow, come 4pm, he’d found himself up to his neck in garlands and twinkle lights and about to be late for his afternoon training session.

When he walked into the auditorium after dinner (sporting black trousers, a white T-shirt and a deep blue blazer) he had to admit he was impressed. And maybe just a little proud. Because looking around, the room had truly been transformed. A lot of hard work and love had gone into it, clearly, and if nothing else, it would surely make Mitch beam. And Heaven bless that ever-optimistic, selfless man—he deserved at least that this season. It made any suffering on Alex’s part worth it, knowing the event was that much more likely to be the success that the original Calyset Head of House dreamed it would be.

What set this year apart from the last—aside from the Reformist-shaped elephant in the room—is that they’d gone full out traditional Christmas this year. Not wintery blues and silvers (a good thing, too, because it may have just been a throw back to the Modius’ Brink Tower reopening—not a failure by any means, but just a sore spot on the roof of the mouths of too many here), but instead, warm and boasting golds and reds and forest greens. Rich colours hung from the walls and pillars in thick tapestries and glowing lights. Ribbons and wreaths and candles sprinkled the room with a bursting festiveness, and not one, but three Christmas trees brightened up the room—even the damaged areas, rubble and broken seats simply became the contrasting foundation of effervescent decorations.

There was even mistletoe. In one or two surreptitious places, waiting patiently for unsuspecting victims.

Okay... so it did look a little like Christmas had thrown up all over the old theatre. But hell—if that was its worst flaw, they had nothing to complain about in their post-apocalyptic today.

People filtered in slowly, chatting and laughing and mingling about, making comments about their outfits, the decor... and Alex supposed that even those who thought the night a waste of time, at the very least, it couldn’t be said that it hadn’t already brought a certain atmosphere of light-hearted relief over the modest, island Colony. Even if just for a night.

At about a quarter after seven, the house lights faded in and out three times, a voice coming over the loud speaker to ask that people take their seats, as the ceremonies were about to start. Taking that as his queue (and Christ, he still couldn’t believe Mitch had asked him to do the opening speech this year—though somehow the fact that Alex had been convinced was less of a surprise, considering his track record with being unable to tell that man no, for just about anything) Alex politely excused himself from his conversation with Cambie, and threw Caelan a grin and a wink when he spotted him striding by with Isha and Clay. Left a smile and a light touch on Clayton’s elbow as they crossed each other’s paths.

And then he was trotting up stage steps, with people still settling into their seats. The lights dimmed, a spotlight panned over to him, and applause grew from the crowd. Chuckling, eyes cast down as he shook his head, he found his place at the podium:

“Good evening, Colony 22. I’d like to start off by saying thank you, to everyone who worked so hard to make this night happen—and that includes all of you who have participated just by being in attendance tonight. Truly, we appreciate it. Because it’s not just about the decorations or the preparation, the drinks or the snacks—though I’m sure the food and drink is the main reason most of you even bothered to show up,” he paused, grinning. “But it’s impossible to nurture a sense of community without all of you—the community. So thank you.” Another pause, and he pointed a wagging finger at Mitch in the second row. “And if nothing else, you can all go home knowing that you’ve put a shit-eating grin on that man’s face—which is apparently how I got suckered into opening tonight’s ceremonies. So while we’re at it, if any of you figure out how to say no to Mr. Douglas, please be sure to come by my office later and loop me in. Preferably before he asks me about doing this again next year.”

A warm, light chuckle from the audience, and with a smile, Alex continued. “Now, as you’re all aware, I’m not Mitch. I have no poetic to weave you about the trials and tribulations we face on a daily basis and how they bring us together in strength and unity. But that isn’t to say what he has said, and what this night now represents is not of value. In fact, I very much believe it to be true. In times such as these, in the face of change and conflict and rebellion, now more than ever it’s important to remember how we got this far. How we have survived, and how we continue to survive. Because we have not done it through selfishness, or greed. We have not accomplished as much as we have by functioning only as every person for themselves. We have gotten this far through cooperation and support. Through contribution and sacrifice, comfort and strength.

“I have been here next to three years now, and I have watched so many of you grow, and I am so proud of each and every one of you. What I think is too easy to forget in all of this, is that after what we’ve all faced, every day done is an accomplishment. Every day, we could choose to give up, to turn back, or throw in the towel. Rebuilding is hard. Starting over in the face of loss can feel impossible. So remember to take the time to recognize that.” He paused, threw a grin at the audience. “Well, look at that, I guess I did have some poetic to weave. Kindly blame Douglas for that too, would you?”

As the audience laughed again, Alex straightened, his tone lightening. “Alright, I’m not going to tell you too much about the awards themselves—I’ll leave that to our lovely hosts, whom I’m very excited to call to the stage and not just because then I can get the hell out of here. But before I do that, I’ll remind you that after the ceremonies there is a reception down at Catch 22, where they’ll be serving food and drinks, and I believe I heard a rumour or two about dancing and karaoke. For which I plan on making myself very scarce. But nevertheless, have an excellent time tonight, happy holidays, and congratulations on wrapping up another fantastic year.

“And now without further adieu—may I present your hosts for this evening: Orson Hurst, Elsa Copland and Mouse Quinley.”

A/N: AND SO IT BEGINS!!!

Well folks... Welcome to the last event of 2018! It has not just been a good year at Colony 22, but a spectacular one. I feel like we too, (much like our characters in verse,) have special cause for celebration—not only do we have our fifth year anniversary coming up, but this year has gifted us so many excellent, long-term members joining the family and exciting new plots, characters and development.

This event will punctuate the year with a bit of light hearted fun that we hope will lead nicely into an exciting 2019 at the Colony, which Lottie and I already have big plans for. We thank you all for being here, for your commitment, enthusiasm and love, and we hope you all stay with us here and continue to write and grow with us for a long time to come!

Now, most of the information you need about the Event Rules themselves I have already posted in detail and you can find here. Make sure you are familiar with them before starting, if you are new to events at the Colony. And if you’re not new, well, it never hurts to have a refresher!

A friendly reminder to send any questions you have about the event to the main blog ASK as we’d prefer to answer them publicly so the knowledge can be shared with everyone, as it’s likely that if you have a question, someone else may be wondering the same thing!

Remember too that this post marks the beginning of the first part of the evening: The Ceremonies only. You are welcome to RP anything that is leading up to the ceremonies, or during, but nothing past into the reception, until you see a post on the mod blog indicated the shift to the second part of the night, which won’t be until after (our real time) Christmas!

Over the next few days, you will see nomination and award reveals on the main blog, and as mentioned in the info post already posted (and linked above), you may continue old threads, or start new ones that are event related (self paras or graphics work too! Just remember that if you make any graphics in photoshop or anything send them to the graphics blog to be posted!)

Keep in mind that activity will still be monitored over Christmas. I still expect you to meet activity, and I still expect you to contact the main if you need an extension before I have to go chasing you down. The holidays are stressful enough—please do not send me on a wild goose chase. That said, I obviously get it: Holidays can be stressful and busy! So just let us know if you need an extension or hiatus!

I will do everything in my power to make sure all the awards are queued and posted promptly and when they’ve been promised—but if something comes up, things may shift a little here and there—nothing that should have too much of an effect though. The Reception will hopefully be triggered sometime between the 27th and 29th, depending on schedules.

The West London Mojo Triangle

“It is strange how we all come from a similar area” , Richie Blackmore.

The term “Mojo Triangle” was first coined by James L. Dickerson as the title for his 2005 book which described the astounding array of musical styles that originated in the area between Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans.

I can’t promise the birth of Blues, Jazz, Country and Rock and Roll. But as a guitarist I want to tell you about a part of Greater London that birthed some of the most influential guitarists of all times. An area that gave rise to the clubs that would give the world the Rolling Stones and Cream and also see the creation of the worlds most famous amplifier.

Come with me into the West London Mojo Triangle!

This is not Central London with it’s grand buildings and tourist sights nor is it the old parts of the City and the East End where the chthonic memories are almost breathable, this the London that expanded West and South during the Victorian height of Empire using the railway to join up hundreds of villages that would form into the haphazard quilt of boroughs they are today and where London pushes into the county of Surrey on its South-West borders. note 1

Into this suburban milieu towards the end of the Second World War were born Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, all within less than twenty miles of each other.

Within the same area Pete Townsend, Ron Wood and Brian May would be also be born.

Page was born at the top of our imaginary triangle in Heston. A nondescript suburb overshadowed by nearby Heathrow airport.

Two years later the young Richie Blackmore’s family would also move there from the West Country.

In the bottom left of our triangle Eric Clapton was born in the village of Ripley, Surrey and across to the East, Jeff Beck was born in Wallington.

A map of the best British rock singers would cover most parts of Britain but virtually all the best guitarists of their generation would be concentrated in one area.

Quite how the leading lights of British Rock guitar came to be born in such a geographically small place is remarkable. Page would later move to Epsom, Surrey putting him even closer to his peers. Barely 15 miles between all of them.

They were part of the cultural zeitgeist that saw young British men look west to a black blues culture that at the time was as mythic as it was unknown. A jigsaw puzzle of riffs fitted together on cheap guitars. Each new delivery of records from the U.S. obsessively listened to and dissected.

For a generation brought up with the insipid offerings of 1950’s radio this was a taste of something real.

The blues men’s songs may have spoken of sex, death and heartache but it was the pulse of the guitars underneath articulating something deeply human that resonated with these young men.

In the recordings of Robert Johnson, the voice narrates the scene, but the guitar works on a different level, a heartbeat and cry at the same time. This was profoundly influential particularly on Clapton and Keith Richards.

The shadow of World War II still hung over the early Sixties. Though the youth had not experienced the war personally everyone knew someone close to them who had suffered during the conflict. London was still dotted with bomb sites and food rationing had continued for nine years after the war.

The moving away from a dark destructive past into something brighter was a great impetus on British youth culture. There was resonance with the Blues’s defiant swagger against the odds.

By taking the template of the blues and distilling that feeling into a new brash hedonistic sound; the youth of the Sixties felt they were truly escaping the darkness of the previous generation. That theirs would be a golden age of sexual and spiritual freedom carried there with the aid of an unquestioned technology.

One factor that aided the dissemination of the Blues were three clubs that would showcase and bring together the most gifted of their generation.

In a small basement below a bakery in Ealing, West London the appropriately named Ealing Blues club opened in March of 1962 by Blues evangelist Alexis Korner. His band, Blues Incorporated included Charlie Watts on drums and Jack Bruce on Bass and would serve as a greenhouse for many aspiring young musicians.

There the young Mick and Keith would be so impressed by Brian Jones’s slide playing they asked him to join their band. Rod Stewart, Pete Townsend and Jimmy Page were also among the regulars of this small shabby club.

In nearby Richmond in early 1963, the Crawdaddy club opened at the back of the Station Hotel Pub.

The Rolling Stones took up a two night a week residency here with their classic line up of Jagger, Richards, Jones, Wyman and Watts now in place.

The Beatles would come to see them there and with audiences overflowing on the streets the club was forced to move to bigger premises at the nearby Richmond Athletic Ground.

The Stones soon achieved fame and their place was taken by a group called the Yardbirds who would hire a young Eric Clapton as their lead guitarist.

The Yardbirds also found commercial success which caused blues purist Clapton to leave and join John Mayall’s group, the Bluesbreakers. Using a then unpopular Gibson Les Paul run through a custom made Marshall amp, Clapton redefined the British Blues sound with a smooth but fiery overdriven tone that would cement his status as one of the finest guitarists in the world.

Ever restless, Clapton would later team up with fellow Ealing club patrons Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker to form Cream whose heavy improvised interpretations of the Blues would be an influence on Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple and spawn many imitators.

The Yardbirds found an able replacement in the mercurial Jeff Beck whose experimental approach to guitar helped greatly added to the bands success. Beck was overlapped and ultimately succeeded by his friend Jimmy Page who had finally decided to give up his lucrative career in session work.

The group would fragment in 1968 leaving just Page and manager Peter Grant to fulfil a tour commitment in Scandinavia. New members were recruited and so great was the chemistry that upon the tours completion they recorded an album. A threat of legal action by an original member caused the band to change their name upon the records completion and so Led Zeppelin came to be.

Eel Pie island an island in the River Thames at Twickenham in the Borough of Richmond was also an important venue in the development of many artists. It’s eponymous hotel being the place where a young Rod Stewart first got noticed and where again the Stones and the Yardbirds continued to ply their trade. As the Sixties progressed names as big as Bowie, Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath would also play there until it morphed into Britain’s biggest hippie colony.

The symbiotic relationship between the clubs and the bands concentrated in such a small area made for a regular exchange of ideas and band members but one thing would become clear was that this was not like Liverpool where the Beatles would totally dominate the scene and the rest were left behind.

Here the quality of musicians was matched by their quantity. For every aspiring young guitarist elsewhere in the country how many had Clapton’s focus, Beck’s originality or Pages’s breadth of vision? That essential quality that put them ahead of the pack and created a sonic landscape that would inspire generations of guitarists.

Richie Blackmore like his childhood neighbour Jimmy Page would spend his early career as a session musician. After a long period in backing bands, Blackmore would join Deep Purple where his more classically influenced style would have a huge impact on the growing genre of Heavy Metal. Every significant guitarist who emerged in the eighties would acknowledge their debt to Blackmore.

The Who were also on the rise. Pete Townsend’s highly distinctive playing style powering their hits. Their 1973 album Quadrophenia would be an homage to the mid sixties “Mod” culture of West London. One of factors in the Who’s early bombastic stage shows would be Townsend’s friendship with local Jazz drummer Jim Marshall.

In 1962 Marshall opened a music shop in Hanwell, West London. Always interested in amplification and listening to the wishes of local teenage guitarists like Townsend and Richie Blackmore he had a try at making an amp that would be more powerful than those available at the time.

With the aid of two friends and after six attempts the first Marshall Amp went on sale, rapidly selling out in days.

By the mid-sixties to keep up the with demand for bigger and louder amps several new models were made including the “Bluesbreaker” amp for Clapton and the first Marshall Stack made for the Who. By the end of the decade what started as a small local music shop has transformed itself into a world beating manufacturer. Almost every major rock act on earth would go on to use Marshalls but it was in 1966 that he would meet the man he described as “the greatest ambassador my amplifiers have ever had”.

Former shop employee, drummer Mitch Mitchell brought in his new boss to see his old boss and so Jimi Hendrix added a vital ingredient to his then still largely unknown sound.

London would play a pivotal role in Hendrix’s career. At the “Bag of Nails “night club British rock royalty including the Beatles, Mick Jagger, Townsend and Beck sat in stunned disbelief as they witnessed his phenomenal stage show.

The challenges and possibilities that Hendrix’s playing posed fed back into the British guitar community. The bar had been raised and for the more ambitious players like Clapton or Beck, Hendrix was an energising presence.

Within a year Hendrix would make his first album in London launching an astonishing body of work that would innovate how the electric guitar would be played for ever. A chance meeting in a nightclub with young acoustic expert Roger Mayer would give him access to the cutting edge effects he was designing such as the Octavia pedal used on “Purple Haze”. “He would talk in colours and my job was to give him the electronic palette which would engineer those colours so he could paint the canvas.” Mayer said.

Together with his Marshall amps, Hendrix now had the tools to express the sounds he heard in his head.

The iconic images from the American Monterrey and Woodstock festivals are how we visually remember him. His searing “Star Spangled Banner” is probably one of the most eloquent and potent protest songs ever played without words.” I’m American so I just played it” Hendrix later said in an interview. A statement that was filled with nuance as to what type of American or indeed whose America he was talking about.

But his life was interwoven with London. A place he often described as the only home he ever had. His unstoppable ascent beginning with his arrival there in late September 1966. The mythic arc of his life tragically ending in late September 1970 in West London’s Notting Hill.

In Hendrix the apotheosis of the American Blues man was achieved. But without London it would not have happened. The enthusiasm of a handful of suburban English kids making possible a discovery by White America of an art form that most were unaware of. The heady mix that originated in the American South was given a British twist and a decade of unparalleled creativity took place.

By the Seventies there would not be a rock guitarist in the world who was not influenced by at least one of the guitarists from this part of greater London.

The synchronicity involved in having so many creative people in one small place is still inexplicable. Nothing in the landscape suggests inspiration. A guided tour would be met with bafflement as to the prosaic nature of the locations. Nevertheless the world of music owes a great deal to the “West London Mojo Triangle”!

note 1Surrey’s borders have always been pushed back as London expanded. Historically Surrey was the southern side of the Thames at London. So Shakespeare’s plays at the Globe theatre would have been shown in Surrey even though today it looks to be obviously in the centre of London. A significant change to the borders happened in 1965 which means that for the purposes of my story some places named such as Richmond would have been in Surrey at the time but after 1965 would then be part of Greater London.

Probably one of my favorite project this year! If not *THE* favorite, I had a lot of fun doing it! And the fact that some devs saw it too, and liked it, will forever make me soft auhgezhu

> 2. FixSwaps + Unlock Camera + Replacer MODS

The panzer scene is what got me into modding- I wanted to have the perfect scene for my own canon, meaning having Mitch on V’s place and having Valentin on Panam’s place. Digging into the files, discovering that this scene uses 4 different entities, how it all works, and then breaking it to achieve what I wanted was one of my biggest break through this year. Same for the player replacer- finally playing as Mitch was an INCREDIBLE feeling!

Looking back at it now it’s hilarious how big of a trouble that was to MAKE! I was baby modder, new to blender, not knowing what the fuck I was doing- and again, giving Mitch a “finished” shoulder was one of my biggest goal at the time, this man really made my brain bigger
