So you're playing a D&D class
(had these thoughts while thinking about CR character builds, but relevant to D&D in general).
Here's just a brief list of three questions per class that are intended to be helpful if you're playing that class and are working on fleshing out that aspect of your character. Note that I'm only covering officially published classes for 5e. If you're a blood hunter I am just going to assume you know what you're about, and if you're a mystic then you are beyond help or hope. Also, obviously, there's way more to a character than their class! But understanding why the character is that class is pretty crucial to overall character build.
Artificer:
Did the magic come first or did the tinkering come first?
Did you apprentice or were you self-taught?
What do you dream of creating - or if you don't, what outside goal drives your creations?
Barbarian:
Is rage a cultural or family trait, or is this unique to you?
What do you feel like when you rage?
What do you feel your purpose is, outside of combat? Do you have one or are you not sure? (note - feel free to ask this about other martially focused classes, but barbarians skew especially hard towards combat skills above all others)
Bard:
What led you to be able to tap into the echoes of creation (not guaranteed for all artists!)
What is your medium, and how did you come to it/learn it?
You have a ton of skills - how did you acquire them?
Cleric:
What is your relationship with the deity/entity/concept that grants you your powers?
Since many sources have multiple domains, why this domain specifically?
What does your worship look like?
Druid:
Is your relationship to nature cultural, or personal?
What drew you to your circle?
How do you feel about wildshape? Is it a tool available to you, or an enjoyable experience?
Fighter:
Who trained you or how did you pick up your skills?
What led you to focus on fighting? Is there something you wished to attack or to protect?
Fighter is REALLY modular/subclass dependent, so dig into your subclass; if you're a champion, the 'what is your purpose outside combat' from Barbarian may apply, but if you're say, an eldritch knight or rune knight, you may have had two teachers and should dig into that.
Monk:
Who trained you?
What does Ki feel like for you?
Not a question, but: with the caveat that I know very little about martial arts, I do think that having a concept of the martial art style your monk uses is a huge help in bringing the character to life.
Paladin:
What drew you to this oath?
What continues to motivate you?
You're in a very versatile role; which part speaks to you the most- do you see yourself more as a protector? a healer? is the versatility itself what matters?
Ranger:
How did you learn your nature skills?
What is your relationship to your magic?
Why are your favored terrain and enemy what they are?
Rogue:
How did you learn to pick locks?
Did your thievery/stealth come as a necessity for survival, or was it a choice?
As with bard - what specifically led you to develop the skills you have?
Sorcerer:
When did your powers first manifest? If it was not when you were very young, what were you doing beforehand?
Are you interested in where your powers came from? How far would you go to learn about them? Or do you already know?
What would you do if your powers disappeared?
Warlock:
What led you to make the pact - even if it was accidental or a trick?
How do you feel about your patron generally?
Because warlock is truly very modular - that is, extremely reliant on the boon and evocations for flavor, analyze the choice of evocations and boon. If you picked agonizing blast, why specifically did your warlock want to make eldritch blast stronger? What drew your character to the blade vs. chain vs. tome?
Wizard:
What role do wizards play in your society?
How were you trained?
What do you most desire to learn or achieve?

i have thoughts about the jedi temple on coruscant. anyway:
its insane that its in like, the Tokyo of star wars. its like, sorry to mix similies, the church of scientology building in dupont circle, or the happy science places in said metropolis.
that being said, the fact that its shaped like a cathedral is boring! i think instead it would be partially a modern structure like we see in the prequels, but i think it would have set within it a massive piece of natural rock that the jedi pulled up from the depths of the planet's surface. I think the outside is business, and the inside is more organic and non-linear and intuitively designed, because the jedi are very strange, have members from multiple species, and have mindfuck powers.
so this massive spar of rock is the farthest wall of the building, and then the lower levels are carved out of it below the main floor. Party in the back. I think the raw face of the rock, once you got to the end of each hallway, or the far end of the training arena, would serve as a meditative and metaphoric object: you cannot move forward. i think they would use a lot of esoteric architecture that channels the force, etc
but also have a massive hollow center in the building, like the center of a teahouse or a courtyard in an apartment building or any of the insane architecture in the death star. you can access it at any level, not just ground, based on force-floated platforms. they would find vertical space and fluidity of space outside of their big fuckoff rock wall as very natural.
i think economy of space and use of everything right down to the bone would appeal to jedi, so i believe many rooms would be modular, everything serves multiple purposes, the shale boulder is a door or a table or a platform, everyone has a murphy bed. I think there are likely gardens at higher levels but they are built into crags, corners, rooftops.
I think also for training there would be no privacy. I think at the peak of their practice, jedi are a powerful political faction, cult, and experimental homeschooling practice and they need everyone to know the party line and form a very strong jedi identity. also i think the force flourishes in use and mass, because it's like emotion.
SO. when someone is exiled, it is very hard to reintegrate to society because it's like leaving the church. even if you hate it, the pull of it is undeniable. and hence i think the sith crave this connection and also decry it. it is the ultimate emotional burden and yet it cannot be acknowledged, and i think that also causes a lot of stress to very pure force users who have grown up in a rule-based system but are realizing they don't fully make sense in practice.
these are my thoughts for this thing i am doing. i think someone alienated would do a lot to keep it from happening again, were they given a second chance

Supermarket Poke Bowls
For reference, it's been months since I wrote a recipe. This recipe has, by default, no raw fish, but you are welcome to prepare raw fish at your own risk to add. It also has rice, so I don't know if it's gluten-free. This is ultimately a modular recipe, so you can change out anything you like for other items, but this is my recommendation. Some items might be less accessible at an average supermarket, I'll mark them with an asterisk (*) to indicate them. Ingredients: Cooled/Leftover Sushi Rice* or white rice (short or medium grain) Cucumber Carrot (You can use shredded carrot if you don't wanna cut your own) Half an Avocado Pre-cooked tail-off frozen shrimp Smoked salmon (most packages at the store are pre-cut) Imitation Crab Meat (I used flake shape but stick/"leg" shape works too with some cutting) Optional: Pickled Daikon Radish* (there's not really any good replacements, but it's also an acquired taste in my experience. It's really sweet.) Optional: Nori* (Like the little snack seaweed stuff, seasalt flavour is probably the best in my opinion.) Optional: Toasted sesame seeds Optional: Sriracha* (I hear there's some kind of shortage? If you know any alternatives you can use that, but vinegar-based western hotsauce is not a good substitute here. You can also just not use it if you don't want spicy.) Optional: Japanese mayo* (Regular mayo also not a good substitute, but my local supermarket carries it at a cheap price recently) Sushi rice addendum: Sushi rice is of course the uncooked sushi rice, the water needed to cook it, and then cooking sake, rice vinegar, and mirin. I don't know the exact amounts you want for these things; for 2 cups raw rice i used 2.5 cups water and 1/3rd cup cooking sake, 1/3rd cup rice vinegar, and I think 1-1/3d cup mirin. (You can sub out any of these ingredients for equal parts the other ingredient, except maybe using all rice vinegar or all cooking sake.) I set it to boil, and once it reached a boil turned the heat off for 1 minute, then simmered it for 20 minutes. Then I folded in the mixture and let it cool- then I made sushi rolls with it, and used the leftovers for the poke bowl. TLDR: Cook rice as per instructions and if you have the stuff you can make it sticky rice by adding specific stuff to it. There are other alternative sticky rice mixes you can use on the internet too.
Equipment: Whatever you need to cook the rice (Rice cooker? Tall pot and stovetop?) A spoon or rice paddle Cutting board Paring knife/kitchen knife (Multiple, really) Spoon for avocado Bowl to serve in Instructions: Prepare rice as necessary (see above Sticky rice addendum) Cut cucumber in half or quarters length, then cut into thin paddle-like shapes (or just cut into julienne slivers, or however else you want to cut it)
Cut avocado in half, starting by stabbing it next to the stem and pressing the knife around in a circle around the pit. Then twist the hemispheres apart and remove the pit by chopping it with your knife to get it stuck on the knife. Afterward, remove the flesh from the skin with a spoon and place the flesh cavity-side down. Cut the flesh length-wise into slices. Cut the carrot into julienne slices or shred as needed; if you bought pre-shredded you can skip this step
If you have pickled daikon, cut it into roughly centimeter size cubes.
Thaw the frozen shrimp in the microwave for 15 to 60 seconds based on your microwave and the frozenness of your shrimp. Just cook until no longer frozen; maybe just in 15 second intervals. You don't want them to be hot, though.
Do any more additional preparation as necessary, such as cutting imitation crab sticks.
Add rice to the bottom of your bowl, enough to cover the bottom with at least half an inch thickness
Add your vegetables to your bowl starting with the cucumber at the 12 o clock position, and your carrot at 11 o clock, and avocado between them and yourself. Add the daikon if you have it at the 2 o clock position. at 1 o clock add the thawed shrimp, then add your smoked salmon at the 7 o clock spot, probably overtop the avocado. Then add the imitation crab at the remaining space.
Tumblr media
From here, you can optionally drizzle the mayo and sriracha, shred the nori sheets up with your hands and place it in the center, then add sesame seeds.
Tumblr media
Note: this photo features an additional ingredient that is not easily found, tobiko (fish eggs). It's a raw fish ingredient and I don't actually count it as a necessary part of the recipe, just decoration.

Task 1 - Conceptual Samples
1) Concept - Palace
A) Schloss Schönbrunn
Tumblr media
The Schloss Schönbrunn is one of the most popular attractions of Vienna and is seen as one of the most important and most visited cultural assets of Austria. But the fascination with this palace and thus also the fascination with Empress Sissi, her husband Franz and the Habsburg dynasty is not questioned much in Austria. This can even be interpreted as a glorification and idealization of the time. Though this is a complex topic, this era was also shaped by elitist and authoritarian structures. Therefore it is worth thinking about the representation of history and our critical approach towards it. The Schloss Schöbrunn could even be the artifact for our critical look at the dynasty.
B) Joana Vasconcelos at Versailles
Tumblr media
Joana Vasconcelos is a Portuguese artist that held an exhibition in 2012 in the Versaille palace. There were multiple exhibits each trying to portray modern aspects of luxury, such as a helicopter decorated with ostrich feathers, swarovski crystals and gold leaf. Shown above is the art piece "marilyn", which is made of stainless steel pots and pans. References can be made to Marie-Antoinette and her achievements as well as to the Dutch war through the choice of the steel. Interestingly, the most reflective piece of her exhibition is placed in the "hall of mirrors", where the important events in the french history were hosted. This is an interesting example, where one of the most important palaces is being used as a space for contemporary art, which evokes conversations about the female role within royalty, about the significance of such buildings and about past and modern elitism. https://www.vasconcelosversailles.com/
C) Dismaland - Banksy
Tumblr media
Dismaland is a parody by Banksy about the amousement park Disneyland. The exhibition was an actual amusement park which was opened in 2015 in England for about a month. While this installation is a rather distant connection to castles or palaces, it uses the symbol of the most well known amusement park - the castle of Disneyland - to create the direct connection. Through this connection the installation offers space for artworks and topics that Banksy deems more relevant, such as hostile design, banks or the treatment of refugees. https://dismaland.co.uk/
Tumblr media
2) Concept - Design for Disassembly
A) Circle House in Lijsberg, Denmark
Tumblr media
The term design for disassembly originated in the field of architecture where it is the goal to avoid demolition through disassembly to recycle and reuse resources. Circle House was designed with the concepts design for disassembly and circular economy in mind. Over 90% of the house materials are supposed to be reusable, there are instructions about the disassembly in place, it is a modular build to enable extentions. Some materials even include RFID chips to view a material passport. This is a very classical example of design for assembly. https://www.buildingsocialecology.org/projects/circle-house-lisbjerg/
B) Disassembly Line - Wiena Li
Tumblr media
This is an interactive art exhibition, where users are invited to disassemble and deconstruct reclaimed electronic waste. Parts of the waste are then reused into art objects. In the center there are documentations about the end-of-life of electronic devices and a round conveyer belt. While the participants disassemble the electronics in search for valuable parts they ressemble the workers in the factories as well as the underprivileged people that normally deal with this hazardous type of waste. This sparks a conversation about design for disassembly as this is often not the case with electronics. https://www.wienalin.com/disassembly-nyc/
C) Wooden Peg - Studio Gorm
Tumblr media
Wooden peg is a furniture system from the Studio Gorm. Here legs and tops are interchangeable to create different-sized furniture pieces as needed. They can then also be stored on the wall if not needed. This is an example of design for disassembly in a more literal form. Here the focus is less on the purpose of the parts after usage but rather to use disassembly to enable reuse and prevent the furniture to get obsolete. https://studiogorm.com/peg
3) Concept - Nutrition
A) Sugar Sphinx - Kara Walker
Tumblr media
This art installation by the artist Kara Walker is entirely made out of white bleached sugar. Through the use of sugar and installing this large-scale artifact inside a sugar-factory, it references the sugar cane slavery with the words "an Homage to the unpaid and overworked Artisans who have refined our Sweet tastes from the cane fields to the Kitchens [...]". https://www.ilr.cornell.edu/buffalo-co-lab/subtlety-the-sugar-sphinx
B) Supersized Crotchet Food - Sabina Schleich
Tumblr media
This is one example of the artifacts that Sabina Schleich is crocheting. Through the creation of different oversized food items, her goal is to raise awareness about the fast food consumption and food waste in the modern world. https://www.designboom.com/art/supersized-crotchet-food-sabina-speich-food-waste-05-23-2022/
C) Food for thought: "Foodprints" exhibition - Vienna Museum of Science and Technology
Tumblr media
Food is a physiological non-negotiable for every human and living creature, as well as a strong enactment of culture with its striking diversity. At the same time, it is also a central aspect to our overall health and wellbeing. As the well-known saying "We are what we eat" suggests, it is important to raise our awareness regarding a variety of aspects around food production and consumption.
The interactive exhibition "Foodprints - Kann man das essen?" within the Vienna Museum of Science and Technology attempts to offer its visitors, from young to old, enriching insights around nutrition and food, ranging from the functioning of current supply chains in the food industry, to topics like satiety and enjoyment. Very importantly, the exhibition's focus is also placed on the sustainable aspect of food production and consumption, providing knowledge about the price at which our food is palatable - famine in numerous developing countries and an increasingly polluted planet. https://www.technischesmuseum.at/exhibition/foodprints_1

Understanding Inheritance in Java: Exploring Types and Examples

In the world of Java programming, inheritance is a powerful concept that allows developers to create a relationship between classes, fostering code reuse and organization. In this blog, we'll delve into what inheritance is in Java, explore its types, and provide practical examples to make it all crystal clear.
What is Inheritance in Java?
Inheritance is a key pillar of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), enabling a class to inherit properties and behaviors from another class. The class granting the inheritance is known as the superclass or parent class, and the class receiving the inheritance is the subclass or child class. This mechanism promotes the reuse of code and establishes a hierarchy among classes.
Types of Inheritance in Java:
1. Single Inheritance:
In single inheritance, a subclass inherits from only one superclass. Let's illustrate this with a simple example:
Tumblr media
Here, Dog is the subclass inheriting from the Animal superclass. The Dog class can access the eat() method from the Animal class.
2. Multiple Inheritance (Through Interfaces):
Java doesn't support multiple inheritance for classes, but it does support it through interfaces. Consider the following:
Tumblr media
Here, the Human class implements both the Walkable and Swimmable interfaces, achieving a form of multiple inheritance.
3. Multilevel Inheritance:
In multilevel inheritance, a class inherits from another class, and then another class inherits from the second class, forming a chain. Let's see an example:
Tumblr media
In this scenario, C inherits from B, and B inherits from A.
4. Hierarchical Inheritance:
In hierarchical inheritance, multiple classes inherit from a single superclass, creating a hierarchy. Consider the following:
Tumblr media
Here, both Circle and Rectangle inherit from the Shape superclass.
Benefits of Inheritance:
Code Reusability: Inheritance allows you to reuse code from existing classes, minimizing redundancy.
Method Overriding: Subclasses can provide specific implementations for methods inherited from the superclass.
Polymorphism: Objects of the subclass can be treated as objects of the superclass, enhancing flexibility.
Modularity: Inheritance aids in creating modular and easily understandable code by organizing classes into a hierarchical structure.
Conclusion
In conclusion, understanding inheritance in Java is fundamental to writing efficient and organized code. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced developer, incorporating inheritance into your Java programming skills can significantly enhance your ability to create robust and maintainable applications.

Imagine a pole in the ground that casts a shadow which is 1 long. And that must be true in every orientation, so the pole acts as a point or End in a grid of other Ends. That is literal D-structure, isn’t it? By constructing a pole, we make a D1 out of the D0’s of the pole and where it sits on the grid.
So, if we take a sheet of Triangular, then we have exactly the issue of the pole that we’ve seen many times. That pole has to feed all those segments, meaning you need to be able to stick more and more and more down the tube to lay out over all that space.
We treat that as overhead. And we treat each 1Segment as laying down so there are then a circle of 1, of 2, etc. And that is true orthogonally, meaning the pole lays out more than one layer of this so the same assembly method occurs at and across each layer.
It’s the idea of a light being separate from the 0-line which needs explanation. When those are the same is 1Space, and that just answered the question because the Informational Limit is just a bit less than enlarged SBE3, which then is the literal gap from enlarged SBE to the IL. I tend to think and probably type that the gap is between 1Space and 0Space, but of course that means the fCM which appears is - oh, now I remember: the answer is that what remains of 0Space is the fCM because that is a grid squares counting method which reaches what? What is enlarged SBE? I get the scaling, especially if we count 10^0 through 8 as 9, but I’m not sure I care that much about the exact count of the magnification so much as I want to know what this means.
In one sense, it means information covers this space. It can be here but not that there without counting again, which is primal 1-0-1, meaning you treat every instant as though 1 has been counted and we’re waiting to hit the second 1, when it’s in the correct rhythm. That means each moment runs from the 0 at the last, so the far edge of thet prior is now the near edge, so we Attach at the inside edge of next, making this the 1 in the middle, the middle matzah, a link in the chain.
So back to root2, if the pole shrinks, meaning it rotates while holding the Observer at ideal, then this is also generating a movement of the Observer tracking that rotation, which is to a right angle. So this also constructs a grid.
Another try: these corners, the S and E, are 2 because they construct 1 to the other over another. So, the minimum is that Between is the 1 in 0-1-0. Makes sense. And it generalizes because that now counts to 3 and then on using the same steps. Perfect.
Have that end fixed better in place. So now when the pole tips over. Not yet happy with that. I preferred the light idea, and that means this measures the amount of deflection in the Observer from ideal which is inherent to 0Space.
Okay, the idea of fCM being what survives is good because that enables transmission of information, meaning well here’s an example: you receive not one time but multiple times and that makes a signature which indicates what the light source is doing and what it’s made of. The image in my head is the same pole except now rotated so what emerges crosses S to E, which means the 2Square builds as well because this makes a modular count over 2. As in, this could be all but getting rid of the label of 2.
I fell asleep sitting here. Must go to bed. It’s 1AM on 15 Nov 2023.

Significance and Role of Parent Classes in Object-Oriented Programming
In the realm of object-oriented programming (OOP), the concept of parent classes plays a pivotal role in structuring and organizing code. Parent classes, also referred to as base classes or superclasses, are the foundation upon which the entire class hierarchy is built. They provide a mechanism for creating classes that inherit properties and behaviors from a common ancestor, promoting code reusability, maintainability, and a structured approach to software development.
Understanding Parent Classes
At its core, OOP revolves around the creation of objects, which are instances of classes. A class defines the blueprint for an object, detailing its attributes (variables) and methods (functions). Parent classes introduce the concept of inheritance, where one class (child class or subclass) inherits the attributes and methods of another class (parent class or superclass). This inheritance relationship creates a hierarchical structure, enabling the child class to reuse, override, or extend the functionalities of the parent class.
Promoting Code Reusability
One of the primary advantages of parent classes is the promotion of code reusability. By defining common attributes and methods in a parent class, multiple child classes can inherit and share these features without the need to rewrite the same code. This not only reduces redundancy but also ensures consistency across different parts of the codebase. For example, in a software application dealing with various shapes, a parent class 'Shape' could encapsulate attributes like color and methods like area calculation. Subclasses like 'Circle' and 'Rectangle' could then inherit these attributes and methods, focusing only on their unique characteristics.
Facilitating Maintenance
Parent classes also contribute significantly to code maintenance. When changes or updates are required, having a structured hierarchy makes the process more efficient. Altering a feature in a parent class automatically propagates to all its child classes, ensuring consistent behavior throughout the application. This centralized approach minimizes the risk of errors and inconsistencies that might arise from updating individual classes separately.
Encouraging Modular Design
Parent classes encourage modular design, allowing developers to focus on distinct aspects of a program. By creating separate parent classes for different functionalities, the overall codebase becomes more organized and manageable. Each class can be designed and tested in isolation, promoting a clear separation of concerns and making the system as a whole more comprehensible.
Supporting Polymorphism
Polymorphism is a fundamental concept in OOP that allows objects of different classes to be treated as instances of a common parent class. This is facilitated by parent classes, which define a shared interface for its child classes. As a result, code that operates on the parent class can be applied to any of its subclasses. This flexibility and extensibility enhance the adaptability of software applications, enabling the addition of new features without affecting existing code.
Inheritance vs. Composition
While parent classes offer numerous benefits, it's important to note that they are just one approach to achieving code reuse and structure. Another approach is composition, where classes are composed of instances of other classes rather than inheriting from them. While inheritance establishes an "is-a" relationship (a subclass is a type of its superclass), composition focuses on a "has-a" relationship (a class has instances of other classes). Both approaches have their merits and are suitable for different scenarios, depending on the level of code sharing and flexibility required.
