Hi,
I am pinkhibiscusgirlie & this is my tumblr page; make yourself comfy! My intentions with this tumblr page is to explore my own interests, hobbies, likes, dislikes, etc. Obvi this page is going to be personal and sporadic, it will be filled with posts and pics of things that are making room in my mind. I guess I could always write down whatever is making home in my brain, but where is the fun in that? Plus, my hand aches when I write in my journal, lol. This is the age of electronics-the age of information ready-available at our fingertips; using technology on a daily basis is second nature to me, so obvi I had to do a journal online, in this case, Tumblr! Although this format of journaling seems fun and easy to use, my posts will be inconsistent. There are multitude of reasons for this, but I will still post and such on here. Below is my About Me section. Anyways, thank you for listening :)!

Various WWF Wrestlers, the Godfather x Fem Reader- "Pimps Up, Hoes Down"
I know I type my fanfics in patterns, but today just so happens to be the Godfather's birthday (and I mean the Godfather the wrestler, not the 1972 Francis Ford Coppola classic) and I wanted to type this fanfic...
_____________________________________________________________
The World Wrestling Federation's Attitude era of the late 90's and early 2000's didn't exactly treat women in the most positive light.
From the female roster, even women who were respectable female wrestlers instead of just valets, doing bra & panties and evening gown matches, which involved 2 women trying to rip the clothes and dress off of another woman until she was down to a bra and panties, as well as doing the equally degrading mud and pudding bowl matches where 2 women dressed in bikinis would wrestle each other in an inflatable pool filled with chocolate pudding or mud, to wrestlers playing misogynistic jerks (i.e. Jeff Jarrett) that hated women, Trish Stratus forced to strip her clothes off and bark like a dog, Stephanie McMahon getting called a "slut" by the audience when she's far from one and getting married through a drive thru wedding while unconscious, this era didn't really treat women with the utmost of respect.
The way women were mostly treated during this period is something that has not aged well.
And to make matters worse, arguably the most over (meaning something the audience really enjoys in wrestling lingo) mid card wrestler during the WWF's Attitude era was the Godfather, whose character was a pimp that would bring out a group of beautiful, scantily clad prostitutes with him.
A pimp is not something to glorify and normalize, considering these are men that sell women out to have sex with men just to make money, and if these women don't make enough money, their pimp will beat them.
To top it all off, the Godfather was also African American, so it's also a gimmick that negatively stereotypes and portrays black people.
The Godfather went from being in a Black Panthers influenced faction known as the Nation of Domination, and the Black Panthers were a group of black people that fought for civil rights and to be treated with respect, to playing a pimp with a group of hoes.
The wrestling character you'll always be remembered for is for playing a sexually promiscuous slut who seduced whatever man you thought was sexy, mostly in the wrestling world.
In 1998, you blew up in popularity when you played that promiscuous nymphomaniac character for obvious reasons.
Near the end of 1998, there was a "Monday Night Raw" storyline where the Godfather, who knew about your slutty, sex obsessed persona you blatantly showed to everyone, made you a part of his iconic Ho Train because you're a horny slut.
The Godfather would offer one of his hookers to a wrestler he was having a match with, and your character was unsure about who the Godfather was gonna give you out to.
During a "Monday Night Raw" episode at the end of 1998, when a vignette playing the guitar riff to Slam Jam's "We're All Together Now" began playing, The Godfather ushered you to the locker room with his arm wrapped behind your shoulders.
You were dressed in a cleavage bearing spaghetti strapped crop top with a matching miniskirt and Lucite stripper heels, looking all the most like a prostitute.
Though, during the majority of "Monday Night Raw" episodes you did dress like a prostitute since your character was a slut.
The males in the audience got out of their seats and cheered when they saw both you and the Godfather, some of the males even wolf whistled at you.
As you and the Godfather entered the men's locker room, some other wrestlers were inside that locker room, and the Godfather proudly announced how even though you've had some of these wrestlers before (as in, having sex with them and seduced them), he wants to give you to them again.
These wrestlers in the locker room were Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Billy Gunn, Val Venis, Christian, Jeff Hardy, Test, Steven Regal and Kane.
These aforementioned wrestlers were standing at their lockers or sitting on the bench in the middle of the room, and they turned their heads when they heard the Godfather state how you're one of his hoes.
Triple H, Shawn, Billy and Val had their hair hanging down, not tied back in a ponytail or little braids, because you like it when they look like this.
Some of these wrestlers, in particular Triple H, Billy Gunn, Shawn Michaels and Val Venis, smiled when they saw that you were one of the Godfather's hoes.
When you and the Godfather had walked to the middle of the locker room, the guitar riff to Slam Jam's "We're All Together Now" had ceased from playing, but these aforementioned wrestlers in the locker room had walked up to where you and the Godfather were, some of these wrestlers smiling at you.
You smiled when you saw Triple H, Shawn, Billy and Val walk up to you as well as Jeff Hardy, Christian and even Steven Regal.
You didn't have to be one of the Godfather's hoes, he could've just taken one of his regular hoes and offered her to these men in the locker room, but since you play a slutty nymphomaniac...
"Well, since you're now a prostitute" Triple H mentioned as he walked up to you, smiling as he approached you. "I'll let you...'suck it'!"
His hands crossed at the wrists and slammed a few inches above his crotch when he shouted "suck it!", his genitals thrusting forward as he shouted that catchphrase.
"And I don't mean that as an insult!" Triple H added with his hands still in that "x" shape.
Billy Gunn, Val Venis, and Shawn Michaels cackled, smiled from ear to ear and laughed when Triple H exclaimed that obscene catchphrase, and Triple H shouting that catchphrase got a major pop from the audience, especially the males, getting out of their seats and cheering.
You then crouched down to the floor until your face was in front of Triple H's crotch, where his hands and fingers looked like they were unbuttoning and unzipping his jeans.
Shawn's hands were in front of his slacks, unbuttoning and unzipping his pants, laughing and smiling from ear to ear.
The women in the audience got out of their seats and shrieked and cheered that Triple H and Shawn Michaels unzipped and unbuttoned their pants, hoping to see they were gonna whip their cocks out.
Billy Gunn was grabbing onto the sides of his shorts, looking like he was gonna pull them down.
In the meantime, some of these other wrestlers, like Steven Regal, Jeff Hardy, Test, Christian and even Kane were circling around you, Steven was unbuttoning and unzipping his jeans.
Just as you looked like you were about to give Triple H and the rest of these wrestlers a blowjob, it cut to the WWF's arena, much to the dismay of the audience and people watching this on television.
It was implied you were these wrestler's mindless cockslave and fucktoy, they were all gonna do what they wanted to do to you and you were to obey and listen to them.
Next year, when the Godfather was still at the height of his wrestling popularity, you disguised yourself as one of his hoes wearing a wig and a skintight dress, only to pull that wig off of your head and beat the tar out of the Godfather by grabbing his cane.
No, this wasn't you being racist, you're just attacking him since, well, his pimp character isn't something to glorify...
I hope I haven't said this yet, but my professional wrestling original character I've created and told you about, about her character being a nymphomaniac-like slut who did a lot of slutty things during the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression era...
I wonder if my original character really did exist during those eras, what today's generation of female wrestlers, specifically ones in the WWE, would've thought of her?
Some female wrestlers today did grow up on the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras, and many of today's female WWE stars have admitted they hate/hated those bra & panties and evening gown matches and bikini contests, lingerie pillow fights, and bikini in mud wrestling matches, some have admitted they'd never do a bra & panties match and want to be taken seriously as wrestlers, they've also admitted growing up they were idolizing female wrestlers like Lita and Molly Holly.
They probably would've found my female pro wrestling original character slutty and skanky, as would most underage girls and grown women who never became wrestlers.
They'd probably even be jealous of her since she got to be close with Jeff Hardy, Christian, Shawn Michaels, D Generation X-era Triple H, Scott Hall and even Rob Van Dam who were hot AF then and massive sex symbols lusted over by fans.

The Losers: Chris Evans, Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana’s Forgotten Superhero Movie
https://ift.tt/3CsNhNU
Even The Losers get lucky sometimes. Before the DCEU was formed to compete against the ever-expanding, cash cow that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the approach at Warner Bros. was far looser. With the booming business of comic book adaptations in full swing, the studio was throwing money at several eclectic comic book titles like Watchmen and Jonah Hex, trying to stay competitive and seemingly more adult than their rivals. Hence before leaving to create his own superhero project, Hancock, wrier-director Peter Berg started penning an adaptation of DC/Vertigo’s The Losers, bringing in French director Sylvain White to helm the picture.
Produced by Joel Silver, The Losers centered on a team of elite, black-ops Special Forces operatives betrayed by their handler. Director White connected with the material immediately.
“What appealed to me about The Losers was that it wasn’t the typical superhero-with-superpowers thing,” White told MTV. “It was based on real characters—realistic characters—and based in reality, like a lot of the European graphic novels that I had grown up reading.” The director worked with creators Jock and Andy Diggle to refine the script and lend their expertise with design to give the film a distinct visual palette that changes with new locations.
Frequent Silver collaborator Idris Elba was cast as Captain William Roque, with the cast being rounded out by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, coming off his turn as The Comedian in the studio’s adaptation of Watchmen, Zoe Saldana, fresh off of starring in the highest-grossing film of all-time, Avatar, Chris Evans, still mainly known for playing the Human Torch in Fox’s early Fantastic Four films, and rising actor Columbus Short. While current audiences would go on to become intimately familiar with most of this cast, their names didn’t generate enough buzz in 2010 to get folks into the theater. The Losers only made about $30 million on a $25 million budget.
Of course a tepid response at the box office does not mean that a movie is destined for obscurity. Just recently hitting Netflix and ready to capitalize off its now A-list cast, The Losers is currently the most popular film on the streaming service. Besides the even greater interest in comic book properties, the cast of The Losers have gone on to such success that they revitalized interest in one of DC’s almost-forgotten adaptations. Let’s look at where the cast of The Losers have been since the film’s release in 2010 to explain the sudden spike in love.
Idris Elba
While Elba, a star of British television via Luther, had already made an impression with American audiences by 2010 thanks to 28 Weeks Later, Guy Ritchie’s RocknRolla, and a guest stint on The Office, Elba’s star would rise considerably after his appearance in The Losers. In 2011, Elba would join the MCU as Heimdall in Thor, who’s role in the Thor films would expand as the franchise progressed. Elba would also pop up in prominent roles in blockbusters like Prometheus, Pacific Rim, The Jungle Book, and Star Trek Beyond. Away from blockbusters though he really broke out with a SAG-winning performance in Beasts of No Nations, and starring in fare like Aaron Sorkin’s Molly’s Game.
More recently, Elba stole scenes away from Jason Statham and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as the villain in Fast & Furious: Hobbs and Shaw. Finally, things have come a bit full circle for Elba, as he’s set to appear in another DC adaptation over 10 years after The Losers, portraying Bloodsport in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
In 2010, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was probably most well-known for his roles on television in series like Supernatural and Grey’s Anatomy. That all changed after Morgan was cast in an adaptation of the “unfilmable” graphic novel Watchmen as The Comedian. While his time onscreen in the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons adaptation was minimal, bringing such an iconic comic book character to life earned Morgan a deeper cachet with the Comic-Con crowd. Morgan would work steadily in films like The Possession and the Red Dawn remake, but he arguably made a bigger impact on television portraying yet another iconic comic book character on AMC’s The Walking Dead, Negan.

Morgan received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the villainous Negan upon his debut, earning the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series, MTV Movie and TV Award for Best Villain, and Saturn Award for Best Guest Starring Role on Television. He’s been going steady as Negan since while doing other occasional comic-con friendly projects like Rampage.
Zoe Saldana
Zoe Saldana was on top of the world in 2010, and in the time since, she’s only become more successful. After appearing in the buzzy Star Trek reboot in 2009 and a little film called Avatar, the former Center Stage star would go on to headline her own action film Colombiana. However, that would seem like small potatoes compared to what would come in 2014. Saldana was cast as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s riskiest adaptation to date. Would audiences get onboard with an off-beat space opera featuring C-tier Marvel characters? Turns out, yes. Gamora not only became the heart of the Guardians, but the character would feature prominently in the grand Phase 3 finales Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
In the shadow of that, Saldana has starred in more Star Trek sequels, an ill-advised TV remake of Rosemary’s Baby, and as Nina Simone in in Nina, a performance did come under fire for due to the lightness of her skin. Still, Saldana now has leading roles in the two highest grossing films of all-time, and is still expected to star in Guardians and Avatar sequels. Not too shabby.
Chris Evans
Speaking of the MCU, Chris Evans wasn’t floundering in 2010, but he did seem to be stuck in a bit of a rut, typecast as handsome smart alecks prior to The Losers. In fact, his big mainstream break is probably the less than classic spoof comedy, Not Another Teen Movie (2001); afterward he played Johnny Storm in Tim Story’s lukewarm Fantastic Four movies in the mid-2000s; in fact, arguably his most amusing role up to 2010 was when he appeared as a douchebag movie star in Edgar Wright’s genre-bending comedy, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010).

$400 Million Knives Out 2 Deal Gives Netflix Major Movie Franchise

That said, The Losers found him playing against type as an awkward tech expert. Perhaps his chance to show a different side of himself led to his life-changing role as Steve Rogers in the MCU’s Captain America. Anchoring the Avengers franchise for eight years, Chris Evans rose to the top of the A-list, and used that newfound celebrity to help get passion projects like Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer and Rian Johnson’s Knives Out made. Evans is one of the most popular celebrities on social media right now and looks to continue his profitable relationship with Disney by voicing Buzz Lightyear in the animated origin film, Lightyear.
Columbus Short
Perhaps the only member of the cast not to launch into the stratosphere after The Losers, Columbus Short has had a few issues that have prevented his rise. Short booked a role on the popular ABC series Scandal, but personal issues derailed his involvement in the show. In 2014, as part of a no-jail plea agreement, Short pled guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence and performed 30 hours of community service. Short also avoided jail by pleading no contest to a felony assault charge after throwing “a running punch” at his in-law during a family gathering at a bar.
In an interview with Access Hollywood Live, Short shared that substance abuse due to the stress of family issues and personal loss had led to his departure from Scandal. However, Short has appeared to move past his personal struggles and can next been seen portraying Martin Luther King Jr. in Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Storyand returning as Quadir Richards in True to the Game 3.

My Review
Quarantine has lead me to dipping my toes into the waters of the WWF’s UK-only pay-per-views of the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. These shows are such strange outliers to me. They feel as non-canon as they possibly could be, like they’re house shows put to film. I mean, outside of a moment here and there, were these shows ever mentioned on U.S. television? Did they impact storylines in any significant way? Would have it killed them to give the U.K. one of their regular pay-per-views? Questions abound, and Rebellion 2000 doesn’t really answer any of them.
Expectations shouldn’t be so lofty, however. At the end of the day, the main gist of these shows was to put on a fun show for U.K. fans, who usually tuned into live U.S. pay-per-views in the wee hours of the morning. And, really, Rebellion 2000 does a decent job on that front. If anything, it’s a nice little glimpse into what kind of show the WWF was putting out at the turn of the millennium, which was usually light and fun at best. The WWF were on top of the world by this point, anyway. WCW and ECW were dying, and would die in a matter of months. The competition was still around, just barely, but it’s clear even from a show like this that the WWF had risen well above them that the competition may as well not even existed.
The card is essentially a sampler plate of Attitude Era icons. None of the matches here are long or really anything all that astounding. The main event is a paltry 8 minutes. Normally, this would make the audience feel underwhelmed, but it ends with The Rock and Steve Austin tossing back beers and the crowd loves it anyway so what the heck. The show does feature one minor moment of note when Crash Holly captures the European title from William Regal. It wound up not mattering in the long-term though, as Regal would win the title back on Raw two days later. That’s one of the Attitude Era’s hallmarks⏤championships switched hands so often that I wouldn’t blame you if you forgot something like, say, Billy Gunn as Intercontinental Champion.
Overall, Rebellion 2000 is such an easy watch. Nothing here will stick with you, and truthfully I feel like I’ve forgotten half of it already, but it’s not a bad way to spend 2 hours. If you’re nostalgic for some Attitude Era content, this should hit the spot, but if I’m being honest, this quarantine is making me nostalgic for any time but the present.
My Random Notes
Wait, are we supposed to forget JR and Taz were feuding with each other just a few months before this? I, for one, haven’t forgotten JR smashing a candy jar over Taz’s cranium.
Taz is kind of insufferable on commentary, by the way. He tries to make the term “rocket buster” happen, and will continue to do so for the next 20 years.
Chris Benoit erasure, case #435: WWE Network lists his match with Taker as “The Undertaker competes in a singles match.”
Some shade is thrown at Lennox Lewis throughout the broadcast, which required to me to do some Google searching on what the hell Lewis did in 2000 to be looked upon so unfavorably. Apparently, he was stripped of his WBA title for refusing to fight the opponent the WBA booked to face him. Whatever. I don’t care about boxing.
I had to keep rewinding to see what the hell Lita is drinking in that one backstage segment with Trish. It looks like beer, but further investigation reveals it’s a can of Tango. It’s pretty much like Fanta for us Yanks.
Molly Holly models her own walk after cousin Crash. Cute!
This show takes place right after Survivor Series 2000, which I reviewed this past November and explains why Rebellion vibes so similarly to it. Sadly, Undertaker’s iconic Godfather pants don’t make an appearance here.
Speaking of that review, I’m pretty sure I said I find Steve Blackman sexy, and you know what? I stand by it. DEAL WITH IT.
I keep forgetting Rikishi was supposed to be a mega heel during this period, which shows you how well his big heel turn worked out. Every time I see him, I’m like, “C’mon, guy, keep being happy and dancing in your thong.”
Pretty indifferent response to fellow countryman Regal, eh? He gives an endless cheap heat pre-match promo that doesn’t quite move the audience to boos and they then take great joy in watching him lose in humiliating fashion in his home country. Ouch.
Watching the Chyna/Eddie relationship unfold is bittersweet for obvious reasons, but it’s clear they truly enjoy working with each other. They really bring the fun out of each other, even when they’re presented at odds like they are here.

I'm watching Uptown Girls for the first time in years and tho it's still the fun friendship movie i remembered it as, now i can see it is so, so much more.
Molly starts as a perfect reflection of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl™, and she seems perfectly happy and successful in her glamorous world of careless partying. This is what your 20s are supposed to be like! Beautiful and quirky and wild! Becoming the muse of a sensitive hipster singer! This was always, up until very recently, my fantasy of the perfect life.
But then shit happens, and she is stripped of her privileged fairytale and thrust into the real world and she is forced to grow tf up. In a matter of a few months she has to face the equivalent of years of harsh realities of becoming an adult. And through it all she remains optimistic but at the same time she is allowed her moments of weakness, of despairing that there is no way she could overcome her circumstances. She falls but she gets back up, always.
We realize (as does she) that her previous life was far from perfect, she was aimless and unmotivated and so lonely that she would jump a guy she barely knew and cling to him for dear life. She was running away from her past, her heartache, but now she is on her way to truly healing.
But to me the really genius thing is how this is accentuated/counteracted by the little insights into Neal's POV. In Neal's story, she is the MPDG muse for his songs, and the moment he gets bored of her she becomes the clingy psycho he wants to get rid of. How many stories like this have we seen?
Yet the movie refuses to romanticize his bullshit as him being a misunderstood artist or something, even despite the way Molly herself stubbornly justifies him. We see objectively the ways he mistreats her and feel only sympathy and frustration for the way she is still besotted with him. It has happened to us all!
Makes it all the more satisfying to watch her growth, so that when he shows up to tell her he wants her back because he hasn't written a good song since she's been gone (um maybe you're just a shitty artist dude?) what does Molly "badass mf" Gunn do? She kicks him to the curb cause she is not a muse, she is a human being with needs of her own that he clearly didn't care about when he ghosted her during the worst crisis of her life.
That scene is so iconic like honestly what an inspiration. I used to rail at this scene as a young girl because Romance™! The guy you love wants you back! Don't be prideful just get back into those arms! But now i tear up because i get it, i get it, and i had to suffer so much and give away all my love and devotion to men who didn't give an ounce of it back, to learn this lesson...
And still I'm hardly ever brave enough to stand up for myself like that! I still swallow back my rage over the sleepless nights and the anxiety of waiting for texts that won't be coming, and when they come back i end up saying yes despite knowing they will ghost me again.
Because I'm aimless and unmotivated and lonely just like Molly was at the beginning of the movie. But growth is a process and recognizing all these things in a movie that used to frustrate me for the lack of romance in it, feels like a huge step forward in the right direction.
It's validation of being a messy 20-something, without glamorizing the reckless behaviors you should be striving to grow out of. We all have a MPDG phase were we despair that our lives are not like we see on Instagram feeds, but with time you learn to see yourself as a three-dimensional character whose life doesn't need to be like the movies to be a good, happy, healthy life.
TL;DR Uptown Girls is a true Masterpiece, painfully underrated and way ahead of its time, and Molly Gunn is a true icon and an inspiration.

I first connected with Jeff a number of years back when he too was living in New Orleans. We both had an early introduction to Celtic music through an album of Irish drinking songs. But it wasn’t until Atlanta that I finally met him. And I was really surprised to see him in my audience.
At that time, I was trying to find artists to collaborate with on my album Selcouth. One song stood out. That was “Kilty Pleasure”. I’ll talk more about it in a moment. But I emailed him the next day and asked if The Muckers might be interested in collaborating. And I’m so happy they agreed.
There aren’t many Celtic bands in Atlanta that are making a splash. But The Muckers, they are definitely the go to band. They sound amazing. But I’m sure it also helps that they are a Celtic Punk band. That’s probably why they were on a cruise with the Celtic Punk icons, Flogging Molly, as Jeff will explain.
29:49 - “Queen of the Pit” by The Muckers from Irish Goodbye
33:41 - SUPPORT WHAT YOU LOVE
The musicians on this podcast are happy to share their music freely with you. You can find their music on streaming music sites. But streaming is a way to sample the music. If you hear something you love, these artists need your support.
Please visit their website, sign up to their mailing list and buy something. You could buy digital downloads, a shirt, a sticker, a pin, a songbook, jewelry, or even the classic physical CD. Your purchase allows them to keep making music. And if you’re not into the physical stuff, many artists accept tips or are on Patreon. So please support the arts.
If this show made you happy, then you can also join the Gunn Runners Club on Patreon. Your support pays for the production and promotion of my music and this podcast. If you have questions or comments, drop me an email.  Save 15% with an annual membership.
34:27 - FINDING BEERS WE CAN ALL CAN ENJOY
Have you ever been to the Cheesecake Factory? I like the place okay. But I’ll be honest. I get a bit overwhelmed. They have a 10 page menu with SO MANY items. I can see why it’s so popular. There’s something for everyone there. I can find something fun and so can my picky kids.
In some ways, The Lost Druid Brewery in Avondale Estates, GA outside of Atlanta reminds of the Cheesecake Factory. They have SO many beers to choose from. There’s something for everyone.
In fact, the head brewmaster, Rob, will tell you a story about why they have so many beers to choose from.
36:40 - GIVING BACK
Next Stacia will tell you how the brewery gives back to their community.
Speaking of giving back…
39:30 - WHAT IS THE CARBON ALMANAC?
I was listening to Seth Godin’s Akimbo podcast a few weeks back when he announced a new project–The Carbon Almanac.
It piqued my interest. I am extremely concerned about the impact we are making on our environment. Not as much for my sake, but for kids and their kids. What kind of world do I want to leave behind?
We are causing major damage to our planet and atmosphere. It will affect everyone some day. But the good news is that we can make a difference. We can make positive change. Not just as individuals but as a community.
The Carbon Almanac at its base is a book. It’s a book about how we can affect change on our planet. But it’s also a book designed to start discussing how we can make change together.
If you too are concerned about Climate Change, I want to invite you to check out the Carbon Almanac website to get involved. Or at the very least, you can pre-order the book like I did for when it comes out in June.
Order the Carbon Almanac now or check out the webpage at thecarbonalmanac.org .
40:59 - “Heart of Fangorn” by Brobdingnagian Bards from Memories of Middle Earth
44:20 - WHAT IS IRISH DANCE?
I’ve played Celtic music for over twenty years. I remember how Riverdance was all the rage when I started playing Celtic music, I never quite understood it. I am a singer. I’ve fallen in love with the traditional tunes. But I’ll be honest, I don’t know much about Irish dance.
My daughter Inara loves to dance. We started her on ballet a year before the pandemic started. She quickly found it slow and boring. She has a lot of energy. So a year ago, we signed her up with Atlanta Irish Dance by Burke Connolly. She connected with it instantly.
I wanted to find out more about Irish dance. So I contacted Emma Burke, one of the co-founders of the school. Emma is a certified Irish dance teacher and internationally certified Irish dance adjudicator, which allows her to judge Irish dance competitions world wide. During her Irish dancing career, Emma competed all over the world, winning titles throughout.
Atlanta Irish Dance is the Premiere Irish Dance Academy in Georgia and one of the top Irish Dance Companies in the United States. They have an exciting performance based program run through their 501c3, in which they produce lively crowd-pleasing performances for crowds across Atlanta.  Their dancers and teams are ranked 1st in the Region, 2nd in North America, and among the top 10 in the World.
So what is Irish dance? I’ll let Emma Burke tell you more about it.
You can find out more about Atlanta Irish dance at http://www.burkeconnolly.com
They welcome dancers as young as 3 up to Adults into their program.  They train every dancer with innovative and engaging teaching techniques that inspire each student to become their best. I attended a Father & Me Valentine’s Day class with Inara. It was fantastic. Exhausting, but fantastic.
52:21 - STORY OF KILTY PLEASURE
I love my kilt. I don’t wear it as much as I used to when I wrote my song “Kilted For Her Pleasure”. It’s become a bit of a guilty pleasure. It’s largely something I wear when I’m going to a show or an event.
I love it for many different reasons. Obviously, I love it becomes of Scottish heritage. Gunn is one of the clans of Scotland. That old Scotland map shows the Gunn land just Northwest of Inverness. But when I wrote the song, I realized there are other reasons.
You see, the album is called Selcouth. That means, “when everything is strange and different yet you find it marvelous anyway.”
That word sort of encapsulates my life. Yes, there was a time in high school when I just wanted to fit in. But when I got to college, I realized that I would never fit. I was just different. It wasn’t good or bad. It was just different. And we are all a little different. We are all unique. That is a great thing.
America is a cultural melting pot. It’s not just white Americans. People from around the globe have immigrated to our country, just like my family did 150 years ago.
I love traditional Irish music. But 15 years ago, a trad musician sat me down to tell me I wasn’t playing Celtic music. I didn’t fit the mold. He was right. But that didn’t make my music any less Celtic. I believe in inclusion. Not exclusion.
I’ll be honest. The racism that our last president ignited and promoted was a big reason for this song. I was afraid that my people, the Scots and Irish of the South, were a part of that bigotry.
So I wanted a song that waived a banner of what it truly is to be Scots-Irish in America.
Our groups were once oppressed by the majority. Now we are a big part of America. And I believe it is time to realize we don’t have to oppress other minority groups to stand out. We can all be strong and proud of our unique heritages and embrace all of our differences.
That’s what the kilt says to me. It’s a sign that I am a true American, and I am Celtic forever. And I love and respect you and your heritage, whatever it is.
55:26 - “Kilty Pleasure” by Marc Gunn & The Muckers from Selcouth
If you enjoyed that song, I really would greatly appreciate it if you would buy the album.
59:28 - NEXT TIME
We have some comedic Celtic music and stories, just in time for April Fool’s Day with Dublin Abbey.
Pub Songs & Stories was produced by Marc Gunn. The show is edited by Mitchell Petersen with graphics by Miranda Nelson Designs. You can subscribe and listen wherever you find podcasts. You can also subscribe to my mailing list. You will get regular updates of new music, podcasts, special offers, and you’ll get 21 songs for free. Welcome to the pub at www.pubsong.com!

Every celebrity scheduled to be at Denver Comic Con this weekend from “Game of Thrones,” Star Wars and much more
You’ve got wizards next to 1980s icons wedged between superheros with a pinch of teen heartthrobs and heck, even a splash of aliens and Power Rangers.
It must be Denver Comic Con.
It happens only one weekend a year: Some the biggest names in the world of movies and television flock to Denver to fill the Colorado Convention Center — and you get to meet them.
Stars of “Game of Thrones,” “The Walking Dead,” “Harry Potter,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and many more will be in town this weekend, pens in hand and smiles ready for selfies — but it won’t come cheap. You may even have to dip into your savings: Some selfies could cost you up to $500.
There are several ways to catch a glimpse of your crush or icon:
Main event panels and Q&As are part of the Comic Con experience and are not extra. However, lines for the popular events can get long, so plan ahead.
You can stand in line at their booth in the Celebrity Summit. This option could mean you are waiting in line for hours and you need to show proof of purchase before getting up close and personal. Photos can be purchased and scheduled online ahead of time at denvercomiccon.com/guests.
You can also pre-pay to schedule a photo op with your favorite celebrities. Rather than stand in line, your individual photo session is scheduled in 10-minute window with other fans waiting for their own chance to rub elbows with a pop culture star. For scheduling, go to denvercomiccon.com/ programming and navigate to “Celebrity Summit Photo Ops.”
Here are the celebrities attending the Denver Comic Con as of June 6, along with the days they will be on-site and the price of an autograph or photo.
The lineup is subject to change at any time. And these names are just the highlights: The complete list, including other actors, plus artists and authors, can be found at denvercomiccon.com/guests. Denver Comic Con runs June 15-17. The hours: Friday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Comic Con passes available by day or for the weekend. Friday passes are $44, Saturday $60.50 and Sunday $49.50. Three-day adult weekend passes are $93.50 and children 3-12 are $8.25 for the weekend. All tickets available at denvercomiccon.com/tickets.
