In one world, Gaster reaches into the Void, and the creature of his future(present)(past) comes through. In another, nothing comes out, but his experiments fall in. Now 1-S and 2-P Sans and Papyrus wake up in a brand new world: one where they have a happy home, two fuzzy caretakers, and a father instead of a torturer—and memories of suffering that no one else remembers. (Or: Gaster had many chances to make a better choice. In another world, he made those choices a lot earlier.)

Based on the mixed Mercyplates/Momplates version of @zarla-s 's Handplates AU.

So it turns out staying up 2 nights in a row to write a story and make a comic dub results in a crash and full system reboot on the third day for me. I set this to render last night, then overslept and couldn’t upload until now lol.

I was like 1000% sure I was going to dub @zarla-s‘s father’s day comic the moment I saw it. Flowey in handplates? Oh lordy [BEGIN EMOTIONAL MELTDOWN]

In addition, as some of you already know, I wrote a one-off continuation of the comic [here]. Because I’m so familiar with another story that involves Flowey and a lot of needless Papyrus suffering by a certain @unrestedjade, this simply had to happen. I’d say I’m sorry...but I’m not >:3

Funnily enough, @robynred also wrote a [story] that continues the comic, and uploaded it basically the same day lol. It’s a bit different, but just as gutting.

I did another thing handplates thing because I've lost control of my life. Specifically momplates, the variant where Toriel takes the brothers in. This story is specifically inspired by this comic and is meant to take place after it. I sort of wrote this in a rush - I had to ride the wave of inspiration while I had it - so apologies if it's a mess.

So ... Handplates is over.

I had a (really sad) theory about how the series would end, but I'm so, SO happy to be proven wrong.

I really can't thank @zarla-s enough for creating the comic. I found Undertale during a crazy, very uncertain time in my life, and I was close to falling out of it when I discovered Handplates. Reading the series, seeing others' fanworks, and, of course, making my own, gave me something happy to focus on in a job I hated, and a sense of stability as I moved from that job into studying for and starting an entirely new career. And I came back to it as life was getting crazy again and I needed something familiar.

I made friends thanks to this series. Grew as a writer and a person. Made my first AMV and discovered a love for video-editing. I wouldn't have written any Undertale fanfic if not for Handplates, which inspired my first.

Heck, in a bit more of a real-life example: I wrote my first bit of code (the CSS to style Sans and Papyrus's fonts) for Butterscotch and Bones. That inspired me to do a bit more coding in my admin assistant job, which inspired me to quit that job and learn to code properly. I'm now a senior software engineer.

And to end this sappy post, have a photo of the Momplates tsums I commissioned from @plushea back in 2017! They have a place of honor in my display cabinet, an adorable reminder of a part of my life I'll treasure always.

I couldn’t help myself. I read the last chapter of Butterscotch and Bones by Kaliawai512/ @kaliawai512 and I just had to draw this. That’s the sweetest fic ever and I love it so much. Momplates and lots of brotherly love. It’s perfection.

It’s not the best thing I’ve drawn, but drawing dresses, especially twirling ones, is so hard. Neither brother looks as good as I have managed earlier either, but well. I still did my best. Papyrus’ head looks so weird though.

I wanted to draw Pap in one of Tori’s dresses but I couldn’t find a reference pic of a child in an oversized ball gown and I didn’t want to look through hundreds of pictures from my and my brother’s childhood to find one. So I designed him a dress of his own instead; he wanted Tori to sew him one after all. 

And Sans is there. Because I didn’t think it would be complete without him. It’s really hard to put his eyelights on the right place.

[Sans ... gets the sort of deja-vu he gets with something that he’s sure never actually happened. To this version of him, anyway.]

“... but who’s buying clothes at the soup store?”

“WHY? WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT??”

“... nothing, i guess.“

[Both of them remain confused for the rest of the day.]

What is Sans’ favorite things about his family (His brothers, Toriel, etc)?

“heh, do i have to pick just one? i mean, there’s … a ton of things i love about them. all of them. i mean … my brother … papyrus, that is … he’s always been there for me. even when no one else was. he was the first person to ever care about me. no one could ever replace him, and no one could ever be more amazing.

“and mom … she saved me. saved both of us. gave us the family we never thought we’d get. she’s incredible. i couldnt ask for a better mom in the whole world.

“aven and tammy … well, they might have come in later, when everything was pretty okay, but i guess they’re a reminder of who we could have been. me and my bro. if we had been here when we were younger. we get to give them all the things we didnt have when we were that little. plus theyre fun and sweet.

“asriel is … really really great for papyrus. they get along better than almost anyone. and he’s generally just really sweet. and he makes mom really happy.

“chara … well, we might not always get along amazingly, but … well, dont repeat this, but papyrus said we were really similar and … he’s kinda right. we are. in weird ways. so … i empathize with them, i guess. plus they’re good for verbal sparring sessions. that’s always fun.

“i just … really love them all, and wouldnt trade them for the world.”
