I am soaking guajillo chiles overnight for this smoky, 3 chile sauce from @bonappetitmag for homemade tacos al pastor for the 4th of July. Since I am not with my family in Maine, and I am having a staycation here in the District for the second year in the row, I am starting a new tradition. Tomorrow will the be first anniversary for the founding of @thetestimonyprojectdc, so these will be some celebratory tacos al pastor. One year ago tomorrow, one of my closest friends and me, we began filming for our documentary, "The Testimony Project" and we began our efforts to formalize our efforts to create positive and sustainable social and political change surrounding sexual and gender based violence, here in the United States and around the globe. It was the 4th of July 2016, a cool, rainy day here in the District, when I set up our bilingual website (link in bio-www.thetestimonyprojectdc.com), in my apartment. After Tanya left after filming and a lunch date at Tryst, I holed up in my bedroom in my apartment and I set up our site, social media accounts and email account. I began to write our story down and begin to craft the foundation for our project. Less than a month after founding The Testimony Project DC, I was in talks for a film production and distribution agreement for our documentary film. Authentic homemade buttermilk biscuits inspired by @altonbrown and @minimalistbaker. But these biscuits are not vegan and are even more buttery and rich than the vegan biscuits I made, although the recipe I used needs more flour. These biscuits were amazing for strawberry shortcake.
