Reto 3: EVA

Ahora que sé qué es un EVA (entorno virtual de aprendizaje) creo poder decir que ya he utilizado uno. Aunque no estoy muy segura. Se llama QUIA. Es una plataforma canadiense en la que puedes preparar ejercicios y controlar qué alumnos los hacen, cuánto tiempo han dedicado a la tarea, cuántas veces lo han intentado (si es que habilitas que lo puedan hacer x veces), facilitar al alumno un feedback de forma instantanea (si así lo programas), además de decirte el % de aciertos que ha tenido y facilitarte la tarea de corrección. LO utilizo como una herramienta más de mi labor docente. Debo reconocer que lo de ver el tiempo invertido lo considero un tanto anecdótico. Me interesa más el que lo hayan hecho y el comprobar que, si han sacado mala nota, lo vuelven a intentar.

Como no estoy muy segura de mi afirmación de que QUIA sea un EVA he intentado ver los distintos tipos tipos de EVA que el mooc facilita y he optado por MoodleCloud.

- proponer una actividad inicial

He optado por Moodle porque tenía ganas de conocer cómo funcionaba y porque, por lo que se dice en el mooc, es de los más completos. Me queda mucho por aprender a manejarlo y me imagino que serán de gran utilidad, aunque también tengo mis dudas. 

La verdad es que ofrece muchos datos y todavía no sé bien qué utilidad pueden tener. Aprender a usarlo y a interpretar los datos que ofrece no es cosa de una semana. He creado mi cuenta como profesor pero debo confesar que no sé qué van a hacer los estudiantes para acceder al curso diseñado. Seguramente me he equivocado al elegir el perfil profesor y tenía que haber sido administrador. En la versión gratuita solo puedo tener una cuenta asi que, seré solamente profesor mientras busco en tutoriales como arregalar el entuerto.

Veo algunos problemas en su uso como que el alumno no tenga acceso a internet (todavía hay mucha gente que no lo tiene), que no quiera estar sujeto a las restricciones que puede imponer este tipo de aplicación (un horario para hacer las tareas encomendadas), que rechace el uso del ordenador como herramienta educativa, incluso que rechace el ser protagonista de su propio aprendizaje. Creo que estos inconvenientes son extensibles a otros EVA.Por lo menos lo son para la plataforma que he nombrado anteriormente, QUIA. 

EVA se me antoja ser un “chivato” de la tarea de aprendizaje del alumno. Otros hablan de un “notario”. Será, seguramente, una mezcla de ambas. Pero solo lo es del tiempo que los alumnos no están con nosotros en el aula. En el centro educativo nuestros ojos y nuestras manos son los que toman nota. Otra cosa es que seamos constantes en esa anotación. EVA sirve solo si se trabaja en un entorno digital. 

Me queda la duda de por qué tanto interés en conocer a qué hora entra o sale  un alumno de la aplicación, cuántas visitas realiza, cuántas veces descarga el recurso. ¿Quiere acaso alguien convertirlo en un criterio de evaluación? Mala cosa sería.  Dependiendo del tipo de alumno puede ser significativo. Pero no creo que lo sea en todos los casos.

Hoy me he levantado, se ve, un poco espcéptica.

WEEK 5 - The Project

On the one hand, my co-worker and I kept testing MoodleCloud version. We are trying to compare the version installed in the school server with the cloud-based one to verify the performance in each scenario. The server of the school keeps shutting down daily and it could put Moodle operation into risk in the future. Next week, we will be preparing a business case to the directors of the village to communicate with them the pros and cons of either version. I am positive that they can make a decision towards the best possible solution. On the other hand, I started to work with the Salesforce developer from NYC in order to make some progress on the deliverable demo for the MEAL team. I am learning how to create objects, fields and relationships in the sandbox environment which I find it very interesting. Nevertheless, I feel a little bit in a rush because there is only half-way left and the team needs to be trained on the usage of the system. If the demo is not delivered on time, I will have to find a way on how to train them so that they can be more familiar with the interface and the basic features of Salesforce.
