ok the last museum post of the trip is something that’s more an art entertainment exhibit, team labs borderless. this was incredibly cool but not technically an art museum, but it’s been a nice exercise to write down thoughts so here they are regardless:
so the set up of team labs is essentially a mix of large projected light artwork, dark mirror rooms with light illusions, and like a maze. essentially instead of telling you where anything is they go “idk find the rooms yourself” which makes for a fun discovery game of it. my group all split up and saw different rooms, and it was very fun trying to explain the rooms we saw and compare notes.
the absolute best part of this was finding a tea shop the very first thing lol. thought I was just ordering tea to carry around, but then the attendant guided me to a pitch black room where they poured a glass of tea & the light affects made flowers bloom from my glass, and the petals would spread across the room whenever I took a drink. incredibly cool and set the tone of surprise/discovery for the trip.
from my rough notes from inside the exhibit I was really laughing at this poor woman having to tell people not to walk into a mirror (lol), I liked any of the rooms that disoriented me via light or optical illusion, and I really liked the wave art. after that I think I just kept getting lost and surprised and stopped taking notes.
overall the exhibits themselves were also very immersive in a fun way- some exhibits would move across the museum (this did not help my sense of direction), the different rooms had different scents (most prominently rain/floral), touching the art would make it react. just a fun time lol
it is however selfie museum extreme, which was less funny to watch. imo the light rooms were best experienced by lingering a bit which is hard to do when ur in the way of someone’s instagram story. blah. Anyway the dark rooms made up for it imo but art museum selfies are my one old man yelling at clouds vice. just experience the moment a little. I’m more fine with it if people don’t just take a photo and leave lol.
so overall: cool experience, really liked the presentation and maze of it all, didn’t like the selfie museum aspect but what can you do lol.

So a while back, I decided to do a little digging in the garage and managed to find some of my childhood train sets. I could go on about the magical feeling of holding the little engines in my hands for the first time in over a decade and a half, re-living the childhood nostalgia if only for a little bit. Then of course, I know there's gonna be some work in restoring them to their former glory.
But that's not what I want to focus on right now.
Instead, I want to talk about James.
Of the engines that I managed to find during my garage digging, the majority of them were in good condition. One in particular, Lady, was basically perfect. I haven't checked their insides yet for battery corrosion (Lady doesn't have batteries, she's one of those little ones with the magnets), but from the outside, they all look pretty good.
Except one. James.
His face had turned yellow from sun damage.
James has always been my favorite. I suspect that he turned out this way because I played with him the most.
Knowing how much James values his appearance, I imagine he would definitely lament this fact. Why should a Splendid Engine like him be the only one to suffer significant, visible damage? Why did the years of play and storage take a toll on only him and virtually no one else?
Then I imagine Edward would be the one to comfort him. After all, the two of them were found together.
Edward would be the one to remind James that he's still the same Splendid Engine he always was, even with the sun damage. In fact, he probably turned out this way BECAUSE he was so beloved. It meant that he spent more time outside the storage box, where the sun would be able to reach him in the first place.
And after all, to be loved is to be changed.
And somebody has to be the favorite.
Somebody has to be James.

i want to make a train post about great eastern railway class y14 number 930 (lner j15 7930) but i can’t find a photo of it anywhere
930 was built at stratford works on december 10-11 1891 in 9 hours and 47 minutes, setting the still-current world record for fastest construction of a steam locomotive. it ran for 43 years until it was withdrawn in january 1935, and scrapped in march 1950
while i cant find a photo of 930 itself, i have found a photo of a loco from the same batch: lner 7925, seen here in 1937

There we go, a more serious trainposting space! I'll be doing my bigger railroad history stuff over there and maybe crossposting it here, or at the very least linking to it here!

So what now?
The fictional trains are done fighting, and a victor has risen. What is to become of fictional-train-fight?
Well, the blog itself is going to be recycled for the next bracket I run. I've already run a poll to determine what that will be, so all I have left to do is wipe the coal dust and oil off this blog, retitle it, and get started on that. The secret seventh thing will run until Until submissions open for the new bracket, and I'll use that time to make sure everything from the train fight is properly tagged. When the new bracket goes live, a link to a fictional-train-fight masterpost will be included in the pinned post, so you'll still be able to find everything.
I want to get a couple more train fact posts done before the new bracket starts, and I'll be doing general Q & a via the ask box. I do have an incredibly busy work week next week, so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get done on here before curtain call, but I'm sure I'll have a great time doing it.
the one thing that I'm not dead set on is how to handle future trainposting. my main isn't really appropriate for that kind of thing, and the upcoming bracket isn't train themed. I'm considering making a dedicated blog for it, but I probably wouldn't post that often. should I just do that anyway?

As we’re trainposting tonight I think we could manipulate the youth through memes (doesn’t even have to be subtle. It can be a total plant meme like birds aren’t real. The kids ate that up so quickly) and if we play our cards right end up with a single-issue conservative culture war where Ron DeSantis 2’s entire platform revolves around funding rail transport more reliable than air travel. In a decade “train” will be as synonymous with American civic pride as “going to the moon,” heralded by chants of “build that rail”

Trainposting till the day I die
Anyway did you know that many engineers have found a smarter, more conservation aligned way to fuel trains? Electric trains are the thing of the past... meet the new steam train!! It is powered with hydrogen and other materials like that.

I’m gonna fucking learn to draw trains if im not careful. The trainposting was never ironic but its going to get out of hand. It may already be there if im being perfectly honest.
In my pursuit of better articulated train facts and reasons to build more trains I can easily foresee myself wanting a visual aid and of course the second that happens I am well and truly Fucked because that is when it goes from thinking trains are pretty cool to downloading dozens of photos for references and making a fucking train oc or something I dont fuckign know guys you have to help me. Guys
