I'm seeing a concerning trend on many social media accounts and pages obsessing about how many followers they have and setting goals for how many followers they want to reach this year. It seems like some may be equating their worth with the number of followers and making it a competition.

Numbers do not define your worth. Not the number of followers. Not the number on the scale. Not the number on your dress size. Not the number in your bank account. I understand the desire to feel validated, connect, and reach a large audience. And it's great to have goals and be proud of your accomplishments. But please try not to attach it to your self worth.

I post and try to share my experiences as a therapy exercise and to help others know they're not alone. Many pages helped me on my journey to my autism diagnosis.

I am not going to set goals or attach my happiness to how many followers I have. That doesn't seem healthy for me personally as I have rejection sensitive dysphoria. I understand others are trying to make a living off social media so increasing followers is crucial to survival and independence.

I don't want to give the impression that I don't appreciate my followers. I really do. But you won't see me posting about how many followers I have, even in a thank you post. I share what I share without any expectations in order to protect my well-being. Our Words Matter

Today, I have been thinking a lot about how our words impact those around us, if you think about it, it’s a common misconception within our culture today. Most people often say that “your actions are more powerful than your words’ and while I do agree that our actions do reflect our words or even the convictions in our hearts, our words can either make or break a relationship.

When I look at the example of the people who continue to inspire me, one example being Erwin McManus from Mosaic, he has been a person who walks out what he talks, and this is super inspiring. One of my mentors who walked me through a season of my life last year, Mike Cruz, he was always a person who was there for me, and coached me through how to lead people well, and to passionately pursue my own dreams. 

So, why am I telling you this? Well, each of the people that I mentioned to you was people who challenged my thinking, inspired me to continue to dream and go after the things in my heart. Which leads me to the next part that I want to cover with you guys, who you choose to surround yourself, you will become like those people.

Positivity is another subject that we will pursue later, but our words matter, the words that we say to those around us matter, we must use our words to inspire people, to challenge people, and to exhort them into their destiny. How are your words impacted those around you? Are you bringing life, correction, and inspiring them? Or are you bringing death, breeding negativity, and destroying those relationships? We have the opportunity to change our now and create a better tomorrow, the choice is up to us.

I know in recovery it feels like every pound is noticeable... And you feel like people are ignoring the elephant in the room by not saying something But seriously nobody knows but you You can't look at other people & tell if they're a pound lighter or heavier than the last time you saw them And chances are...you don't care.
